I have nothing against fan films in general, but I couldn't even make it through the trailer because it was so boring.

They're all quite young filmmakers as well as fans of the early comics, where Peter did brood an awful lot in between his social life and fights. There was also a lot of self-reflection and brooding in the Raimi movies too, and they'll have all grown up on that too.

They've been hyping this considerably on social media and there's a lot of positive buzz about it, so if you've got nothing nice to say, you know the drill

And even if you consider me a negative person (I know I'm not), there's really no excuse to call a fan's efforts to produce something entertaining for Spider-Man fans 'boring', just imagine if I or another person posting this could have been involved in the production and wanted to promote it to gauge interest.

Yeah, I'm probably being a bit too cagey, it's just I thought it'd be nice to share it as it got me hyped for what they can do, and the first thing I get is a thoroughly unpleasant response. It can put someone in a real mood depending on what kind of day they've had.



All I get for my troubles are yawns and labelled a naysayer when I react badly to it. Thanks. Does wonders for my mental health that.

Dude said it was boring? Ok, well, good for him. Why should that bother you? Does it take away from your OP? No, it doesn't.

But, when you tell people basically that they can only post what to want to hear, answer me this: on a discussion forum, why shouldn't I just lock the thread because you will only allow certain discussion?

Not all the time, you're looking into what you want to read...and even if I'm critical, what the heck is wrong with that? You guys crap on WWE, AEW, Zack Snyder etc, all the time, but I know that doesn't represent every post you guys make, you're fun people to be around.

I've been reading comic books for 35 years, so yes, I am very familiar with the original comics and the character of Peter Parker. He's actually my favorite Marvel character so I'm quite knowledgeable about him.

Spider-Man brooding a little between fighting bad guys, trying to make money, and have a social life is absolutely in character. However, an entire movie of depressed Spider-Man hardly seems like a film people would want to see. If anything, people seem to enjoy Spider-Man films the more fun they are.

As far as them being young, that's not a pass on quality. If you aren't a good filmmaker yet, maybe you shouldn't try something this ambitious. In fact, I'm actually disappointed that a young filmmaker wanted to make a Spider-Man movie that they'll never see a dime from instead of a youthful, original idea.

As for not saying anything if I don't have anything nice to say? Well, let's just say I don't have much to say about you personally right now.

Edit: Aaand I just read the apology. Its cool, but if you don't want someone to have a different opinion than you about something, then message boards aren't for you.

I was having an 'off' day, I'd go into it, but I don't think anyone would really care, as that doesn't really excuse asshat behaviour on my part.

Onto the topic, I can understand wanting a guy with some creative ideas strive to do something original, but that requires security and confidence, and it's probably better to grind your teeth on something established than start out with a personal project that you could struggle with or stumble making. This sort of things gives you experience and it allows you to work with a sturdy foundation. I've worked on adaptations before and it very much helps you improve and instils that afore-mentioned confidence to try something entirely different and new.

It also allows you to grow interest from an already expansive and ever growing audience.

We don't really know if this film won't have 'fun' moments, they're just focusing on some of the angst the comics are known for to sell the emotional core of the story. I'm sure the finished version won't be too melancholy.

It happens to us all at times, you can't be expected to personally vet every person involved in every fan project that comes up. It seemed neat, not anyone's fault that poop hit the fan afterward except for the people involved who caused it.

Spider-Man: Lotus star Warden Wayne apologized for a series of racist and homophobic comments following the circulation of various incriminating screenshots on social media.



Wayne, who plays Peter Parker in the highly anticipated fan film, acknowledged his statements in a post on his personal Twitter account. The actor said the intention behind his tweet was to "come forward honestly about mistakes I made when I was younger," referencing a series of screenshots wherein he expressly uses several racist terms. "I'm embarrassed and sad at who I was, and I'm sorry to anyone I may have hurt years ago, or to anyone I may hurt now by revealing this information," he said. Wayne added that he was raised in a "homeschool conservative environment," noting that the ideologies of his parents were "pushed onto" him.




"The groups I associated with online were not good people," Wayne wrote. "But I wanted to fit in, and have friends. So I aligned myself and tried to act in ways they'd approve of. Which included saying offensive things for the sake of a reaction or making ignorant jokes." Wayne also notes he "should've known better," and that he will "continue trying to be a better person."



Spider-Man: Lotus writer and director Gavin J. Konop has responded to the situation surrounding Wayne's past, stating that he was aware of the actor's comments. "In the past, Warden has been open with me about his former ignorance, as well as what could surface as a result, and I have done everything in my power to hold him accountable - not only then, but also today, and forever," wrote Konop. "I bluntly told him that this is going to love with him for the rest of his life - there's nothing he can do about it, and that's the reality he's accepted." Despite this, Konop also says that he "can't do anything much as a consequence" as Spider-Man: Lotus is a non-profit project that is not affiliated with Marvel and Disney.


Following Konop's official statement on the subject, several followers began sharing screenshots that feature the director making similarly racist comments on Instagram. Konop has yet to address these messages, and many fans have called him out for attempting to defend Warden in light of his own racist statements. The writer/director later addressed these images, stating that the images are a mix of "photoshopped screenshots of me saying outrageous things, to screenshots of things that old admins had sent from my account several years ago, to actual old messages that do need to be addressed, to an entire situation that needs to be addressed all on its own." Konop noted that he will eventually deliver a formal response but will taking a break from social media until then.





As a result of the discovery of the messages, both Warden and Konop have experienced significant backlash. Many of the fan film's supporters are criticizing the director for working with Warden despite seemingly having knowledge of his racist, homophobic sentiments while also pointing out his own prejudiced past. Others are calling for a boycott of the Spider-Man: Lotus due to Warden's comments, with some saying the actor's apology doesn't make up for his previous statements.



Spider-Man: Lotus is a non-profit fan film that combines elements from "The Kid Who Collects Spider-Man" by Roger Stern, Ron Frenz, Terry Austin, Bob Sharen and Diana Albers and Spider-Man: Blue by Jeph Loeb, Tim Sale, Steve Buccellato, Richard Starkings and Wes Abbott. The project is scheduled to release in 2022.

I think if someone legitimately posts an apology like that, where they explain and be quite open and honest about it, it's worth giving them a second chance. Edge lord youth shit shouldnt ruin your life forever if you genuinely mean your adult apology.

I know many wont accept that anyway. But if we fall in to the habit of retaining rage and online indignance over accepting any apology, then why will anyone bother to apologise going forward?

I'm less inclined to support the director, who has tried to throw the actor under the bus while ignoring his own past.

On saying that, I have no real interest in this. We have a great Spider-Man at the moment, both in movie and animated form. I'm not looking for a fan film of something being done so well officially.
