Don't cry because it's over, cry because Vince McMahon ever made a cent booking a company like this.
This title reign killed more promising careers than 2008 mid card booking.

I love the poetic justice of Roman losing his title because he was too obsessed with getting revenge on Seth by hitting him with that chair to the back.

FINALLY OVER! Thank f*** for that! Went on for too long for my taste. Solid match to end Mania 40 on as well.

Having sworn off wrestling in early 2016 and coming back to it in late 2021, Reigns' heeldom makes me imagine what could have been done with John Cena. I remember how hard WWE was trying to make Roman the guy when he was a babyface, and it just didn't take. But it so very much did when he turned heel.
Yes, his reigns was probably too long, and there were optimal times to pull the trigger on dropping the belts (Drew at COTC, Sami at Elimination Chamber, Cody at WM 39), but he made me a believer when I wanted nothing to do with the guy when I stopped watching.
So here's to 1,316 days. Long, indeed, did Roman reign.

However, I will say when the heel turn happened it did make him more interesting for a little while and the Bloodline was initially cool and I was fine with him retaining at WM38 but it just, as I've already stated, went on for far too long for my personal taste. Hopefully Cody can have a good run now and his reign doesn't end up outstaying it's welcome.

So how do we all look back on this thing? An all time run that led the company into a prosperous new era. ☝️

What a journey. I returned to wrestling in 2020, so that means Roman was champion for 3 of the 4 years I've been back.
The beginning of the reign was awesome. The matches with Jey were incredible, and I became a fan of the Tribal Chief from there. There was definitely a period when not much happened, but I didn't care because I loved Roman's character so much. I originally thought he was gonna drop it to Finn after he hulked up, but so much for that.
The CATC match was the beginning of the end for me as a fan of Roman's. I felt like this should've been the time to end it, even though I wasn't even a fan of Drew anymore at the time. I was very disappointed that he lost, but I got over it.
The Sami story was obviously incredible, and where the Bloodline story picked up again. This was the peak for me. "I don't give a damn what the Tribal Chief thinks!" I wanted Sami to be the one to take the title off of Roman, but I wasn't as confident it would happen as I was with Drew. I was still gutted, though.
And then we finally got to Cody. I was so angry and disappointed Cody lost that I took a 2 month break from WWE. That was when I officially stopped being a fan of Roman. I feel pretty sad about it when I think back on it because I really was a huge fan.
Even though I wasn't watching, I did look back on the Jey and Jimmy stuff, and it really was great. There were still some compelling moments. And then the Jey match happened at SummerSlam, and it just wasn't good. It was just so obvious Roman was winning. I couldn't get invested in the matches anymore. And then the Jimmy betrayal happened... that was the lowest moment of the whole storyline for me.
That was pretty much it for a while. I still liked Solo for the most part, and goofy Jimmy was actually pretty entertaining, but there was just nothing for months and months. Then The Rock entered the picture, and all of that's been pretty great.
At least the ending was awesome. It should've ended the first time with Cody, but it was still an epic moment. Now I'm really curious where they go with it.

When this title reign started, we were all locked down at home and honest we had no idea where the world was going. We knew Joe took the risk when he came back and started this title reign and title run. He was the guy we would see often on Smackdown as we moved back to getting live fans in the stands by April 2021.
The world moved back and forth as we get eventually got back to a mostly covid-19 free world. This was truly the last bastion and connection to a terrible and scary time we lived in. Roman gave it his all in the matches and you can never take anything away from him.
Remember, he himself contracted COVID-19 in January 2022 and for a person already compromised, this was the scariest thing to happen to him. All this while he was still travelling around the world when WWE got fans back in July 2021 for good.
So when we look back at this reign, to me, yes it was a little long. But Roman totally put it on all on the line for this title reign and he gave it his all.
There is nothing but love for the man Joe Anoa'i.
Thank you Roman for the memories you created with this title run.

Saw a picture someone took from a different angle where during the pin Roman had a shit-eating grin on his face and I find that pretty charming.

Yeah, I mean his title reign may've lasted longer than I'd liked but he seems to be a decent guy so its nice to hear that he looked happy for Cody.

I am glad it's over. The inevitable Roman Reigns dominance was what caused me to stop watching. Even before his massive world title run, I was bored of seeing him beat better wrestlers and wrestlers I liked more and making them look shit.
I don't think I will go back to watching full time however. I will likely just do what I am doing--watch segments/matches that interest me when WWE loads them on YouTube. But I do have more of an interest. I actually only really started reading show reports in the build to 'Mania after Cody won the Rumble.

Kind of a missed opportunity not really having a reaction shot of Heyman after Cody won but I do appreciate the, "NOOOO! NOOOOOOOOO!" when he was about to.

It’s like 4 hours later and I’m still over here listening to the version of kingdom with the prelude and just vibrating. this must be what it feels like to have a sports team that isn’t complete ass for the last few decades
