I remember someone once saying she was "only being famous for playing old ladies who swear", which was just absurd given she's been in show business since she was 8 and a TV legend many times over.

Although I will defend this casting to my last breath because he was excellent, Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan in the prequels was cast a little young. It's pretty hard to believe that Obi-Wan goes from what Ewan looked like in Revenge of the Sith, to what Alec Guinness looks like in A New Hope in only 19 years. I know living on Tatooine is tough, but not that tough.

Not only that, but wasn't Getty the youngest of the four? She was Pretty sure Rue Mclanahan was the youngest. She passed in her 70’s.

The two that come to mind are Jerry Orbach and Sam Waterston from the original Law & Order. In one of Jerry's easy episodes a database showed his character's age as born in 1940, Jerry was born in 1935 so not much of a difference but the show really needed to portray him as 5 years younger because he seemed pretty old by time his last season came. I know he was ill but he should have been phased out a few years ago. Do 69 year olds really still work in the field as detectives? Legit wondering. I was pretty happy when Dennis Farina came on though of course sad when Jerry passed. I am glad he got to do what he loved for so long and I know he was a legend and that was probably one reason no one would ever want to replaced him on the production staff. Sam Waterston always got me because he was portrayed as a sex symbol (moreso in the 1990s) and later as a young buck trying to take down the system. The man was almost 70 by the show's end and literally had become the system. I liked Michael Moriarty's acting and character much better though the writing was probably better for Jack McCoy as far as the dept of the crimes and trials and again, Sam is another acting legend like Jerry. I just didn't care for how the character was written as this Carlos Colon like youngster when he was way older than almost all of the actors he worked with even Fred Thompson and Dianne Wiest. I'm also surprised no one mentioned Gary Burghoff as Rader. He played an 18 year old for almost 10 years and he was almost 40 by time he left the show. I thought the character was good and Gary did a great job but it seems like he rarely evolved or got more mature until his latter episodes. I'm guessing most of the M*A*S*H character were supposed to be much younger too than they were written. Another one is Michael Chiklis from Commish. I think he was just in his late 20s when he started but was portrayed as mid to late 30s at youngest. I was going to say Gary Burghoff. Not a whole lot of 18 year olds that have a receding hairline like he had by the time he left. A lot of the MASH actors were in that boat by the end of the show. Alan Alda was graying terribly, when you think about that character, he would have been in his late 20s or real early 30s. It probably didn't help with his jet black hair. And I just looked, Alan Alda was almost 50 when the series ended.

Pretty sure Rue Mclanahan was the youngest. She passed in her 70’s. Wiki says: Betty White born January 1922 Bea Arthur born May 1922 (passed 18 days before 87th bday) Estelle Getty born July 1923 (passed 3 days before 85th bday) Rue McClanahan born February 1934

In a sense the characters were timeless while the Radar character aged considerably. I don't know why Gary left but it did seem like he aged a decade while the others maybe only aged a few years and like I said, were timeless. Edit: It seems like celebrities who make it close to 100 years either pass before their 100th birthday or pass a few years after (like Kirk Douglas) so I'm really hoping Betty makes it to 100 or more! She is a literal treasure!

I know living on Tatooine is tough, but not that tough. IIRC Obi-Wan was conceived to be in his mid-to-late 40s, while Guinness was 63 at the time of filming A New Hope. Even the official ageing up of the character prior to the release of the '97 Special Editions still had him 5-6 years younger than Guinness (Obi-Wan is canonically born 57 years before the events of A New Hope). Ironically, if the Obi-Wan miniseries being filmed now takes - as rumoured - about ten years before A New Hope, Ewan McGregor will also be playing the character younger than himself.

It's definitely a combo of Ewan looking younger than he is and Guinness looking older than he was. I find it hard to believe that McGregor is 50, although I know he is considering how long he's been acting. It's still jarring on-screen though.

Going off board to say that time Unsolved Mysteries apparently couldn’t find a single black person anywhere in the world, so they just put a guy in blackface.
That was just too stupid though.

The Rifleman was playing in the background at work today. At one point they have a flashback to the Civil War (about 15 years before the show is set). All I’ll say is for TV back then they REALLY didn’t give a f*** about trying to de-age the cast.
It’s like middle aged white guy = 30-60
It doesn’t matter what side of the spectrum the actor falls on. As long as they’re in that age range they’re good.

Diana Ross playing Dorothy in The Wiz. Came in here to say this, and yeah, utterly miscast to the point that basically the entire story/aesthetic of the play had to be changed to accommodate it.

The only fan of Clifford is now a studio exec and reliving the movie? I'm no studio exec! Granted, I'm not as much of a fan of the movie as when I was younger, but the point of the movie was that Martin Short was playing a child. With the events of the movie, it would have been very dark to actually have a real child cast as Clifford, especially when Charles Grodin's character is violently shaking Clifford around by his neck. A lot of people were going to be confused by the movie BECAUSE of the casting choice, but the movie did itself no favors by trying to play to the family audience and the adult audience. I guess they were thinking they'd hit that same Home Alone demographic, but because it's so dark at times, the lighter humor is absolutely dreadful. Add into the fact that the movie what was shot in 1991 came out in 1994, it was incredibly dated. So honestly, while the casting choice didn't exactly get people flocking to the movie, the movie had bigger issues. I honestly think it could have been an underrated classic if you fix them.

Watched “The Dropout” recently.
While Amanda Seyfried looks pretty young at 37, I'm afraid it was obvious when she played Elizabeth Holmes in the early episodes when she had to play her during her teenage year.

Lakeith Stanfield in Judas and The Black Messiah
He put in a great performance and I liked the movie overall, but the character he was playing was supposed to be in his late teens but the actor is clearly a 30 something year old man.

This should been the first thing that popped into my head. No f**ing way they was 17-18 years old 😂 The teachers/principal at that school weren't Shit! Not only did they let these roided out, grown ass men roam the halls of their school, but when they jump Kid in the lunch room in front of a teacher, somehow Kid ended up getting in trouble. (Now "Kid" was ALSO damn near 30 at the time, but at least he was built like a high schooler)
