www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/dubois-informs-jets-he-plans-to-test-free-agency-in-2024-team-wants-to-keep-him/Dubois makes it official that he wants out of Winnipeg when he gets to free agency. Any thoughts on what they should do? Why wait on a player that wants out? I am not a fan of tanking in the sense of outright trying to lose games with icing a minor league team, playing the backup more than you should, etc, etc, with the purpose of trying to get a 1st overall pick. I think you should ice your best rostered players and try to win every night. Huge difference between that and knowing when to pull the plug on an aging core whose window has basically closed and trade for picks and prospects and rebuild. This would be the year I pull the plug on all their vets while they still have value. I'd trade everyone I could and build from the ground up. The next three drafts are going to be deep and now would be the time to do it for Winnipeg. James Patrick (same one that played in the NHL), coach of the Winnipeg Ice, went on a podcast and a clip from it was played on Winnipeg Sports Talk. Jets players have said the dressing room is the worst they've ever been a part of. Winnipeg has two 1st rounders this year and the only real true prospects being Perfetti and Lucius, potentially Heinola but good Lord he didn't look good from what I saw this year. Hoping they trade Dubois, Wheeler, and Schifele. How many teams would kill for a decent goalie right now? Hellebuyck would be gone too. The return for those guys alone would be a decent starting place. Connor would get a ransom. With the cap space you could take on a bad contract too for more picks or prospects. Blow the whole thing up. Related note, I think next year is going to be a race to the bottom for certain teams and we might see tanking like it hasn't been done before. Could see massive send-offs at the trade deadline with teams gutting their rosters. Bedard, Michkov, and Fantilli could be the same as having Crosby, Ovechkin, and Toews in the same draft year.

Winnipeg skipped the full-on rebuild from the Wheeler/Little/Byfuglien/Trouba days, despite losing their (at the time) best prospect in Laine. Now Connor has proven to be the better player, even on the offensive end. But they lost a lot of core pieces and haven't replaced them with either good prospects or timely FA signings. And no matter who goes out the door, the room seems to be constantly bad. I have to wonder if they just have a toxic franchise from the top, bc pushing out Laine bc he wanted more money, Byfuglien retiring, Trouba leaving, Maurice resigning, Dubois still wants out, Scheifele is probably traded. Very, very rarely are so many big pieces moved and their culture STILL is bad. You have to full-on rebuild. There is no quick turnaround eith their prospect cupboard. I still feel like Heinola will develop into a servicable middle pairing defenseman. Chibrikov is a solid nab IMO, but Russians are kind of a crapshoot. Perfetti and Lucius are great, but they need a lot more. They're in kind of a tough spot in this draft at 14. You're gonna get another good, but not cornerstone piece. What it comes down to is they HAVE to be sellers this year. If they don't move Scheifele this year, something is wrong with them. And likely Dubois at this point as well. I don't expect them to move Connor bc they aren't a very wealthy franchise and rely a lot on fan support so they can't just Arizona it. But next year's draft is great and very deep, so get some ammo to really build the team back up. And maybe with their late 1st take a shot on Lane Hutson this year.

Tampa fans quite salty about that goal, feeling that Kadri was on the ice too early and there should've been a too many men call. Rejoinder to that is, Jesus, Colorado had the ice completely tilted their way during overtime, they were likely winning the damn thing regardless. Tampa losing a game at home now makes this series feel like it's just about done, even ignoring that a 3-1 series obviously could end at any time. Can't count the Lightning out completely, but they're starting to look a bit tired, and losing some of the depth they had last season isn't helping them. The Avalanche are just monsters right now, not I've seen a team with this capacity for domination in a long ass time. Watching that OT, and it was quite clear the Avs were in control for most of it, in terms of chances. Tampa had a good chance to win, but it was all Colorado.

If any team can roar back to win the Cup down 3-1, it's this Lightning squad.

It'll be interesting to see how many teams start at this year's draft and get a headstart. Montreal and Chicago are open they're going to tear everything down. Jeff Marek was saying the new GM in San Jose might be more of a figurehead and PR person that their fanbase trusts (like a Patrick Marleau) that could try to sell a complete teardown to their fanbase because if they do they don't want attendance dropping too much. Marek also implied that whoever the SJ owner is wants the majority of the team traded and wants the GM to take the brunt of any damage control. It'll be really interesting to see who they hire and what they'll do at the draft. Lane Hutson has to be the biggest wildcard since Ryan Merkley. Top 15-20 in skill and could be a Torey Krug but I'd be hesitant unless I was Arizona or Seattle with those extra picks. I'd try to get him early in the 2nd but yeah realistically I see him in the late 1st range too. He can be so much fun to watch. Has to be a first for someone to bring a doctor's note to the combine saying they still might grow. For anybody that doesn't know him, he's 3 feet tall and weighs 50 pounds.

Devils fans eyeing up a goalie like Hellebuyck potentially becoming available like a pack of hyenas that haven't seen a meal in weeks.
Price has to be right, of course, not interesting in giving up the #2 pick for a goalie, but it's hard not to let desperation set in when you know abysmal goaltending is what kept your rebuilding team from potentially being on the bubble this year.

Hadn't heard that one, makes sense but yeah the #2 pick would be too much to do that. Thoughts on the Alex DeBrincat rumours for the 2nd pick?

Eh, I don't think so; honestly, best thing they can do is just use the pick, I'd only trade it if another team with a high pick came offering another first rounder (e.g. getting Arizona's #3 and #20-whatever pick, or Columbus's #6 and #12). I think DeBrincat likely comes with an even higher price tag, too.

I believe John Gibson is a free agent and it's not like the Ducks are gonna do jack and/or shit for a while. Why not throw some feelers out there?

Nazem Kadri with one of the all time great quotes, "To everyone who says I'm a liability in the play-offs, you can kiss my ass".
Apparently he's been hanging out with Shane Douglas.

Its hard not to love everything about the Stanley Cup from the captain first taking it, to the passing around to just the history. Every year.... just love it.

Well, he's following in the footsteps of other dirty shitbags to win the Cup in Brad Marchand, Corey Perry, and Tom Wilson. It seems in the NHL, if you want to win the Cup you should probably do many things worthy of suspension in your career and definitely don't play for Toronto.
