At last, we had a night with a couple of thrillers!
Toronto badly needed that one, can't help but think Tampa would've put them away in Game 6 without it. Still not sure what to make of Edmonton, though, feeling like that goes 7.
And on the lotto, was certainly hoping for the #1 spot, since I think Arizona would be willing to trade to get there so they can get Wright and would likely give up one of their other first rounders to get it, but Devils getting #2 is still great for them; it's not the deepest draft class this year, so being as high up as possible is important, plus the Devils' two biggest organization needs are power wingers with strong interior games and right-side defensemen...and Slafkovsky (LW), Jiricek (RD), and Nemec (RD) are three guys who project to go in the top 5-6, and now the Devils have their pick of the three.

I'm happy that mes Habs got #1 but I'm actually more happy that Arizona's deliberate tanking wasn't rewarded either.

Trouba with a dirty ass elbow taking Crosby out of the game.
Rangers proceed to score three goals in under two minutes, Pens respond 13 seconds later to tie it up.
Down in Sunrise the Caps jumped ahead 3-0, but the kitties have made it 3-2 and are suddenly playing like a top seed over the last ten minutes.

I want the Rangers to win, but yeah that is 200% the old Scott Stevens chickenwing that the NHL has made a point to take out of the game. Sucks, because this time of year you want to see all the best players going at it. I would say that he'll be suspended but it's Parros so probably not.

The rats are back in Florida! That is the coolest thing ever. I remember those stupid things from the Vanbeisbrouck days. You knew the NHL wouldn't let them delay the game continually like that, so they didn't last very long at all. And doing it at the end of the game makes way more sense. But my god, the nostalgia.

Need Edmonton to win tonight. I would love to see the Battle of Alberta in the 2nd round.
I went to a game in Calgary years ago when both teams weren't very good. I've been to maybe 10 games in different cities and that was the 2nd best atmosphere I've seen (1st being the playoffs in Tampa). There was a massive brawl outside after the game. It would be a gongshow in the playoffs.

Not just saying this because I'm a shameless Devils fan, but the reason Stevens was the master of those hits is because he always knew the lead with the shoulder; this one looked like a straight up Ryback botch or something. Not the first one seen in these playoffs, either; can't remember which game it was the other night but someone went full elbow to the jaw. Feel like I went the whole season not seeing anyone do something like that and now we've got it happening multiple times in the opening round.

I love Stevens (originally a Blue) and it wasn't outlawed at the time. But if you look at the Lindros hit, his elbow is out.

I love Stevens (originally a Blue) and it wasn't outlawed at the time. But if you look at the Lindros hit, his elbow is out. Nah, the Lindros hit was all shoulder. Stevens was just such a freight train that he'd be coming to a near stop for a hit and his arm would fly out after contact, which could create the appearance of an elbow being thrown. What made it so catastrophic was Lindros immediately looking down as he crossed the blue line, as it seemed Stevens had him lined up for a a hit and with that head movement now had Lindros's jaw in the crosshairs instead of the body. The league not really being about hits like that anymore is really for the best given what we know now about brain trauma, but Lindros looking down as he crosses the blue line with a power defender like Stevens on the ice was kind of mind boggling, especially at the time. Meantime, holy shit, Minnesota I am so disappointed in you. Spent the whole build to the playoffs thinking Minny/St. Louis would be the best opening series, and it was just...ugh. St. Louis's depth/special teams and Minnesota's lack of goaltending were too much, I guess. Colorado/St. Louis should be a really, really good one, though; Colorado's ready for the next step but St. Louis is just deep as hell. Also, holy SHIT McDavid went full McJesus mode last night; xGA was heeeeeavily in the Kings' favor all night, except whenever McDavid was on the ice, at which point the ice completely tilted towards Edmonton. Dude had three points, ten shots, and something like 24 minutes of ice time, 21+ of it 5-on-5. He's doing everything he can to drag the Oilers to the second round, whether they want to go or not.

As a Blues fan, I'm glad the Blues moved on but I really question the goalie change being Talbot being the Blues as owed him so some time. It showed they where disparate but really the guy who didn't have a good track record? Binnington came in and played well on the goalie change but the difference is he was playing well at the end of the season. It seems like he found his '19 mojo in this series. It will be interesting with CO. The Blues having 3 lines that would be top lines on most teams is what makes them scary.

Holy shit, the Rangers have no business being alive for a game seven; they look terrible. But when you get the other team's third string goalie and knock out their best player with a pretty overt elbow to the face, I guess that's a convenient way to level the ice. Either way, whoever wins that game seven is likely going to be devastated by the winner of Boston/Carolina; between Pitt's injuries and the Rangers' overall play, neither of them look like they have any business being here.
ETA: Just read that so far in the series, high percentage chances are 103-52 in favor of Pittsburgh. Goes to show how important goaltending is; Sheshterkin hasn't been great this series, but he's the literal only reason the Rangers are alive.
Credit to Florida the last few nights; they just never, ever go away, do they? Capitals are giving them all they can, but Panthers just seem to have more endurance/overall better legs under them.
Ok, Caps have a power play with a minute left, let's see...WOAH that play couldn't have gone better for them, could it? Mantha and Oshie just playing pepper with that puck.

The record books don't have a column for ugly wins. I don't ever recall a Devils fan complaining about having Brodeur, he won a few games for you guys The kids line are also a reason the team is still alive. Happy for Florida's first win since 96, better that it was against Washington. If the Rangers lose, Florida will be my bandwagon team from the East. We've got five game 7's folks. Giggity.

It very well might be time for Boston to rebuild. They've got Pasta, McAvoy, and Swayman to build around. Lysell was a great pick last year. The cupboard is a little dry, but the ceiling for this team just doesn't seem to be there anymore. I thought the Blues were there this year as well, but they seem to be defying the odds. At some point, you have to bite the bullet and turn the page to the future.
