It’s going to take a long time to get used to Klopp’s lack of glasses.

Oh and seeing as we were talking about weirdly placed player numbers the other day, here's the time David James got moved up front in a little bit of confusion tactics: I remember that. Poor Jon Macken sat on the bench the whole game knowing that he was second-choice striker to a goalkeeper who had all the grace and ball skill of a drunk rhino.

Jon Macken was the first footballer I ever loved as a kid, he was marvelous for Preston. If we kept him I reckon we'd have gone up around 03-04

If we kept him I reckon we'd have gone up around 03-04 As he came through our youth setup I always had a soft spot for him. Top class at Preston, but the injuries he suffered at City really did a number on him and he never quite looked the same player after that.

The most remarkable thing about that statistic is five of the seven players to achieve it were Arsenal players.

Gerd Muller has died. One of the greatest goal scorers ever, his numbers are frightening. 68 goals in 62 caps for Germany, 547 goals in 594 games for Bayern. He was way before my time but I remember seeing footage of him from 70s World Cups and he was something else. RIP Der Bomber

Dust settles on the first weekend of the Premiership. As a Man Utd fan living in Leeds Uniteds backyard, that couldn't have gone much better for me in all honesty. One of the best performances I've seen from that team in a few years I think, they looked ruthless and they weren't even playing with a first 11 either. I'm not banking on them keeping it up for an entire season, but if they can do it when it matters, I'm optimistic.
City losing wasn't just great as a Man Utd fan, but for the league as well, especially if Tottenham have woken from their slumber to join the party too, could lead to an exciting season. Seeing Brentford get their first top flight win in however many decades was lovely as well, especially at the expense of Arsenal. Arteta already odds on favourite to get the dubious honour of first sacking of the season? Liverpool look back to pretty much full strength too, even as a United fan, seeing their struggles last season didn't seem particularly fair so hopefully that's behind them now and they too can help make a real race of it. Oh, and shoutout to Trevoh Chalobah, been at Chelsea since he was 8 years old and scores on his Premiership debut 14 years later.
Great to see the crowds back too, I'm really hyped for this season now, feels like we haven't had real football in too long.

Jesus wept. Barcelona are £1.15 billion in debt. I knew it was bad but I didn’t know it had gone past a billion quid.

Laporte said today he was paying someone €8m to scout for South American players which…I mean, that alone brings up more questions than answers about the administration he had to take over for.

And yet they still want spend money and buy Aubameayang (cash plus Coutinho). The hierarchy there is just as insane as the previous regime.

Which...like, their wage bill is already over the limit of registering people. None of their new signings have been registered yet, including Sergio Aguero. Like, even if Messi was able to sign back with them, he wouldn't be able to be registered.

Why Barca are still trying to sign players is beyond me at this point. They need to be selling.
They still have Griezmann, Dembele, Coutinho, Depay, Fati, Braithwaite & Aguero in attack why do they need more?
Also Tammy Abraham has signed for Roma for £34 million but Chelsea have a £68 million buy back clause.

All that debt and Everton can't sign anyone of any significance (apparently) due to FFP. Hilarious.

Ahh, I think I heard that but forgot. Even so, would they be hoping others can just so they can get more players? And why are they trying to buy more players when they’ve been trying to offload half the team since the pandemic started? Coutinho since he arrived?

Arsenal have agreed deals for Martin Ødegaard and Aaron Ramsdale. Decent bits of business.
