Just saw this... and like... no one is really doing a voice in this. Hell I'd say the only one I've heard that sounds like they're trying is ironically Chris Pratt the one everyone complains is just being Chris Pratt. edit: and Jack Black as Bowser... >_> Normally, I don't really notice this type of thing, but the sheer lack of effort in giving Donkey Kong any sort of voice other than the actor's regular one just struck out at me and not in a good way. in fairness, it's kinda hard to pin down what Donkey Kong's speaking voice would be like since most of the time in the games, he's just grunting and one of the only things he's had a speaking role in was that awful CG cartoon from the 90s.

Exactly. Like, if Idris Elba wasn’t doing Knuckles, he might be in the right ballpark for a good DK voice, or maybe someone like Chris Hemsworth might work but the only frame of reference we have is “YEAH!” and “OK!” which now makes me think Lil Jon should have voiced him.

Like, if he hasn't ever done it before, why start now?

True, but this is just Seth Rogen sounding like he wasn't paid enough to change his normal voice. Jack Black put effort into what he's done from what I can make out and hearing Donkey Kong is just jarring in comparison. Maybe it'll sound better put together, but this project is feeling rather paint by numbers so far.

Maybe's its just because he can pull off big lovable characters so well, but I kind of wish John Goodman had gotten a chance to voice Donkey Kong. He could do the light hearted bits while easily going serious if he had to.

Only pet peeve... Bros. is "Brothers," not "broze". Kinda like people who call it "Ness" and "Sness". They literally say "You'll be hooked on the Brothers" in the jingle, you'd think they'd have some consistency with that! It's the same with Super Smash Bros.. The freaking announcer says "Super Smash BROTHERS," it's an abbreviation damnit! I think you’re looking to much into it, the girl is obviously reading from a script so the ad isn’t suppose to look professional or well put together. It’s suppose to look and sound campy. That’s the charm of it. Aswell as the awesome retro theme song

If you look close in the Ad when they zoom in on the money... they put so much detail in making this look like a low budget ad that you can actually see the Green Screen Cut out around them.

So if this is a success, what franchise should Nintendo do next?

So if this is a success, what franchise should Nintendo do next? The money is in Zelda, though the more interesting choice would be a quiet and thoughtful Metroid film.

But I think Punch-Out could be made into an live action film, the only thing that would be expensive would be doing King Hippo as CGI.

I don't see Nintendo going back to live action for a very long time, if ever. If this movie is a success I expect it will solidify a "Just make movies that look exactly like the games" mentality. Granted, I'd watch the f*** out of a Zelda movie animated in Breath of the Wild's art style.

Metroid is a story of one person alone in space... that's pretty much it. Everything about the story is a very Video Game story. Basically to make a Metroid movie you'd pretty much need to change thing like crazy to adapt it into the new medium.

Yeah, I doubt we're getting any more live action movies also I'm not sure we're gonna get any more Punch Out!! either just due to the fact it's basically nothing but Stereotypes...

There could be an potential compromise of Samus somewhat interacting with an AI, perhaps one loosely inspired by the one in Fusion. Enough to provide the key exposition at points and give gradual insights into her character, but still allowing a tone of isolation for the film proper. Use the her gradual discovery of the Metroid infestation to tell the rest of the story and with the right script it might work.
