Will be interesting to see how they have Wario's origin be if he is in the sequel, given his debut (at least by US manual) had him be a childhood friend turned bitter of Mario.
Plus, no Tatanga to distract Mario this time around.

Given that he is one of the few Mario characters that does have a backstop, it would seem like sort of a waste for him not to have one here. Even if it's just "greedy guy trying to cash in on Mario's success as a knock-off".

The main concern for the sequel is hoping that The Princess makes lotsa Spaghetti.

Apparently to combat Mario's success, Disney has a video game movie of their own they can make.
They have the rights to make a movie of MegaMan it seems like

A Mega Man movie would be great if done right.
(Honestly, there's something a little poetic about the idea of Disney making such a thing. Disney helped inspire Osamu Tezuka, who created Astro Boy. Astro Boy was a tremendous influence on Mega Man's conception for very obvious reasons. It going back to Disney is perhaps full-circle.)

If Disney wants to be cheeky they can claim that they had the first big screen animated appearances of Bowser (and Sonic) in Wreck it Ralph. I can see them use that in the marketing when they rerun the film on TV.

So if they go the Infinity War route, they have The Super Star and The Triforce.
What else can they use for them?

The Fire Emblem from...well, the Fire Emblem franchise. I'm sure there are other things that could work from there too. Kirby's series has had a few powerful items.

Cannot help but feel a bit sad now that with Super Mario Bros. entering this level, the entire Top 10 of the highest-grossing animated movies consists of movies released in the 2010s/2020s (since before Mario, the list still had 1994's The Lion King as the only non-2000s entry in that list). Not that there is anything bad about the movies in that list, don't get me wrong.

Does anyone have a top 10 thats adjusted for inflation?

Apparently in the early concept of it, Toadsworth and Toadette were gonna be in the movie. Also Mario would have become Fire Mario as well.

Film's definitely (or on the verge of) breaking more records; third most successful film of all time in Mexico, and less than 100 million dollars away from being the most successful Illumination movie of all time.
