I really hope Naito has a strong recovery and benefits from a well deserved rest.
I am curious as to how much he originally factored into the G1 booking. He was originally scheduled to face O-Khan on the final day of the tournament, and my initial thought when I saw that was that O-Khan was gonna be his spoiler and get a notable win under his belt from it. I don't expect that he was originally planned to win his block, so I think the main headache is figuring out how much Naito's planned wins being changed impacts things.

I like that they booked some interesting matches to make up for Naito being hurt. I actually think Shingo winning this year and facing Ospreay at Wrestle Kingdom would make the most sense, but my gut says Okada is going to win this year.

Of all the years since the Dome contract became a thing, this is the safest year for the IWGP Champion to win the G1, as the pandemic has resulted in plenty of credible challengers the champion can propose without the issues of the match having happened, or the transitive "Shingo beat Okada, who beat Tanahashi, so why should Shingo challenging Tanahashi be a challenge?" nature.
However, I think the 3 day WK has scuppered that idea, as I suspect Ospreay is getting a shot regardless of what happens in the G1.

Naito looks like a Keiji Mutoh/Rey Mysterio situation where even after discontinuing much of the style that brought so much wear and tear, it’s still causing wear and tear.

I’m starting to think Kenny Omega will be involved in night 3.

I say have Zack win the block now.
Have him be the heel in the final. Why not? He’s been the most consistent and dependable guy they’ve had.

We've got Ibushi vs Ishii tomorrow, that'll be in the top 5 of the tournament.

As I said before I think Night 3 is overkill but I assume they are cashing in their favors they been doing for everyone and getting talent to come to them for WK

I thought 2 nights then New Year Dash was perfect, personally. Niehter Ishii or Ibushi can afford to start 0-2 Sadly for Ishii, I think Ibushi's getting the W.

Gedo loves the slow start booking in tournaments where guys go winless their first three matches and then undefeated the rest of the way, wouldn't surprise me if Ibushi falls in defeat.

I wonder how much ZSJ and Shingo will play into Naito's injury today, especially if Zack ends up doing the post-match promo.
