As a big fan of Saints Row, I’m liking what I’m seeing so far. Like, sure, I’d love for the events of 4 to be continued but I can see it being a headache to try and make that stuff into good gameplay so it makes sense to reboot and start over.

Reining it in with a new setting definitely sounds for the better, 4 kind of just hit the point of being stupid.

It's not what I expected, but I don't hate it.
I'm seeing some hate from some, as they wanted the style of SR1 & 2 back. People comparing it to Fortnite. But outside of a kitty helmet, I don't see it.
I have to see how the game plays, though.

And here I am deciding not to create this topic 2 hours ago because I didn’t think anyone would care. Ended up putting it in the PlayStation thread.

Super powers ruined the franchise, IMO. 3 was just slightly beyond the right amount of insane and fun (would like to have seen a bit more of the RPG elements from 2), but 4 was an obvious rush job DLC converted to a full game that just couldn't retain my attention.

Liked saints row 3 & 4 and the gat out of hell expansion. I liked the stupidity that could happen in the games, made a change from super serious game play.
Will probably buy this

It's a day 1 buy from me. I loved 1 and 2, 3 started to lose me and 4 totally lost me. If this is able to balance the humor with a few moments to really make us care I'm in.
I was so happy when I saw another dumb, all wearing orange, "planet of hats" gang. Something sorely missing in games.

Was disappointed that it looks like none of the regulars are in this game.
Then I thought well... Who gives a f*** about Pierce?

Ended up playing the games in reverse order. It was actually 4 that made me a fan of the series.

Of this trailer, I can only say this. I like that they're using a new setting, which looks to be based off of Vegas and Southern California. I applaud them for that, but not for leaving out my favorite characters (Gat, Shaundi, Pierce, and Kinzie).

Gonna be honest love the Saints Row series but this felt rather generic and not anywhere near as insane one would expect from this series.
Granted I wont completely write it off but the tone the trailer gives off is very restrained.
Like I just use this as an example of just how different the energy in the earlier game trailers were compared to this reboot.
But I get it it is a reboot so I should not lob the same expectation on it.

The trouble, too, is that the context of that direction was because GTA was sticking to the serious direction with 5 so it was either keep to 1 and 2 and keep the GTA-like moniker or go their own direction. The sort of dilemma I can see them having is they needed to tone it down and try and keep some of the charm without coming off like they’re just aping The Third. And for the most part, I enjoyed it but I can get your own thoughts about it. I do have to say, a bunch of young adults thinking they can just set up a gang out of the blue sounds really Saints Row to me. But that’s just me.

Saints Row 2 was the peak of the series. After that, it degenerated into "what if we had this?", which is why people always should say "no" to ideas.

Disappointed we won't see the likes of Johnny Gat or Shaundi in this game, and the intro trailer doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. Just came off like another third person game without any of the charm or zaniness that defines Saints Row.
I'm also in the camp that prefers 3 and 4 over 2. SR1 and 2 were well-meaning GTA clones with better combat because Volition doesn't have a stick up its ass about that like Rockstar does. But I feel like 3 is where the series really started to set itself apart. And outside of a retread of Steelport with only minor differences, I loved how batshit insane SR4 was. The superpowers were a ton of fun, too.

It's a reboot therefore it sucks by default. I wanted to go even further into the bats*** insanity they ran with in 4. This is the exact opposite of what I wanted.
