Title shots don't grow on trees, when you lose you really go back to the end of the line.
Thus far only Darby Allin, Eddie Kingston and Jon Moxley have challenged for the belt more than once.
Jericho lost the title a year and a half ago and he still hasn't gotten another crack at it, Hangman's still climbing back two years after his one shot. It adds some really high stakes when someone challenges for the belt, because if they lose who knows when or IF they're going to get another shot at it?
It's pretty much reverse of usual North American booking, where PPV's will have the same 2 guys wrestle for the world title for several months on PPV and I love it.

that's my counter-argument to the "they have too many people" argument. the fact that AEW has so many options available as credible title contenders means they can cycle through several people before there's any need to repeat someone getting a title match. instead of repeating the same match while they try to build up the next person. there's enough people in AEW to just slide in and people won;t consider this a filler (though the TNT title is more heavily flavored on the filler defense side). and then when they do- christian pulls off the impact title win (granted it means kenny will 99.9% likely win at all out but almost no one considered the first match to be anything but the usual omega successful defense vs "challenger just credible enough to be taken seriously").
on the women's side i think only nyla rose has had multiple title shot opportunities.

I think this is something they picked up from New Japan. There are no rematches for title changes, unless there were grievous circumstances like Naito’s initial title win over Okada.
Other than that, you lose? Back of the line pal -Heenan

Other than that, you lose? Back of the line pal -Heenan It's something they do better than NJ because of the ranking system. NJPW's approach is far more like actual combat sports do it, to be fair, but there's often a feeling of "obligatory vs Okada defense" or "obligatory vs Ibushi defense" in their title reigns. A lot of that is down to NJ simply having a smaller roster though.

There also doesn't seem to be a rematch clause when someone loses the belt, AKA a way to pad out months worth of booking. I think only Moxley had a rematch, and that was more because Omega wanted to destroy him.

Another world title related thing that's great about AEW is that if a big name shows up in the company, they have to work to earn that title shot over months, they aren't just handed a world title shot because they are the shiny new toy. Mox, Christian, Brodie Lee, Jake Hager all had to put together a run of victories upon entering AEW to secure a world title opportunity.
