Think we also forget that, well, Baker is super over. Not saying that was a reason to have her win right now but that crowd did love her winning even by nefarious means. Yeah, there’s a case to be made here that NYC was giving her the bigger reactions over Ruby. Not sure how it was like live but it REALLY felt that way on TV.

Britt is so over that a heel winning is still sending the fans home happy. Even though you guys have a little while to go.

Not only that, but Baker and Thunder Rosa is a legit money maker/ratings draw match waiting for them. They’d be foolish not to build to that title match. This program got Ruby to have a hot debut, but AEW should be going with the hotter act leading to the biggest title match.

Yeah, there’s a case to be made here that NYC was giving her the bigger reactions over Ruby. I'd say the crowd was about 50-50. Other than that and obviously, Cody Rhodes and Malakai Black, they generally played along with face and heel alignments.
Cody got the "John Cena in 2006" reaction. I was expecting it to be about 50-50, but that crowd did not like him. Brandi got some nice pops though lol.

The point is that the heel gets their comeuppance though; that never really happens. You mean like when the Bucks lost? Is it really a "comeuppance" if they go back to doing the exact same stuff the next night, with hardly any acknowledgement of what they've lost? MJF never even acknowledged tapping out to Jericho before he insulted Pillman Jrs' family, said his Dad was in hell and he should've been aborted, then got a hometown win over him. The Bucks haven't skipped a beat in everything that gets them heat, either, great match aside.

Especially with Rosa still getting some of the biggest pops out of anyone whether on Dynamite or Dark Elevation so…yeah, the moment she declares her challenge will get a mega reaction.

Even though you could make a serious argument for Ruby winning tonight, it's needless to say you can't go wrong with Baker winning either, and that's especially when you consider how big a deal a title match between her and Thunder Rosa would be. Those 2 are among the most popular women on the roster, so it'd only make sense to have that as the title match.

Brandi is such a weird entity. She has some of the same bad habits as Cody, but she has stronger instincts for which way the wind is blowing for her reactions and a general sense for non-wrestling spots that will get a pop. Like, that whole thing imitating Malakai's pose and flipping him off? Added almost nothing to the match besides giving Malakai a moment to do his villainous flailing (which he's great at), but damn if it wasn't a good little moment on its own. I wouldn't have thought it would work if it were written down on paper, but she nailed it in execution. I gotta wonder what she'd be like if she weren't so mediocre in the ring, and if she didn't have the marriage to Cody that gives any push the appearance of nepotism.

In fairness, when MJF did that it was very clearly presented as him being angry and humiliated over tapping out to Jericho and taking it out on everyone in sight to soothe his ego.

It has happened all the time in wrestling. When Rock lost the title to Austin he didn’t admit that he lost fair and square he kept being an asshole. The main point you made is that heels don’t face comeuppance and they do frequently in AEW.

Acknowledging that they got punked out, showing some pain/humiliation for the loss, the rival stable twisting the blade would all be "comeuppance." Hardly having the result acknowledged unless you watched the PPV and then doubling down on the heel antics two days later basically means the loss didn't matter. AEW does a great job making faces sympathetic (Hangman, Jericho), but there's not the same emotional depth/catharsis for heels losing as there is when faces win.

I think Brandi's got good, even great instincts for character work even if she's not a good wrestler otherwise. I loved that spot with her and Malakai tonight because she stood up for her man, and Malakai laughing along with it was great. Almost like he had a sort of twisted respect for her.

Knowing how AEW loves to long-term book things, seeing small things like MJF being snide towards Wardlow is a good reminder of what's to come eventually.

They need to start featuring more than just Britt and Jade on TV consistently.
The big issue with the Women’s Division has been that you have a different woman who gets a few weeks or a months of buildup on TV, just to lose a big match. Then they just disappear and they bring in another woman to repeat. Only Britt and Jade are constant TV fixtures.
That needs to change to build the division as a whole.
That’s a big part of why Britt is so over, they’ve spent so much time building up her character on TV. Now they need to do that with more women.
