Oh sht Shida is out of the Top 5 for the first time ever... Seems that Rosa, Jade, Kris and Nyla will get the byes with Tay heading for the Womens title. No argument there if those are the top four Wonder if Shida/Deeb is ran back as soon as round one...

It's gonna be a 12 woman field, with 4 first round byes. We won't have to wait long for a tournament match to go longer than every match combined in the Queen's Crown tourney. Strike first. Strike hard. If one of the first round matches went 19:50 or something, that’s be rather amusing.

Im predicting an 8-10 minute average for round one matches with some of them going longer depending on the people involved. Like if they do Shida/Deeb 2? I see that being a 15 minute match whether it's on Dynamite or Rampage. That being said that will still blow the Queen's Crown Tournament times out of the water... which only had like less than 30 minutes of ring time TOTAL.

I can understand why they went with 12 instead of 16 competitors because they didn't want to book any obvious filler matches and an extra four first round matches would be a bit of a time constraint when they want to give people a chance to look good. No Tay makes me think she's at Full Gear vs Baker. Wish that Emi & Leyla got to be in it as Leyla could use some shine for when they want to build her and she could believably pull out a shock first round victory.

Soho v Ford will start things off on Dynamite, and I fully expect that to go 19 minutes 25 seconds to make a point.

I’m surprised that they’re doing Deeb vs. Shida again so soon? I hope they give it plenty of time.

Booking a match for 19:25 runs the risk of losing fans, although it’s a small risk given the AEW fan base. Personally I think it would be dumb to do that in an opening round match just to take a shot at the Queen’s Crown tournament. Just book solid 8-10 minute matches, let the length grow a bit with each round, and do it as you would any normal tournament. 19:25 just to dab on WWE feels stupid.

I don't think you need to book a 19+ minute match just to prove a point. The matches should be as long as each needs to tell its story.
Seeding also makes sense, with #2-#5 getting the first round byes.

Ruby/Ford is probably optimal around 8 minutes.
Shida/Deeb, though? 20 minute draw makes a lot of booking sense right now.

They’re both awesome and their first match was great. It’d be fine.

Ok if they did that with Ruby/Ford I'd agree with you... but Shida/Deeb could realistically be a clinic and no one would bat an eye.

Yeah, Shida vs. Deeb could go real long no problem and be a great match that won't drag. They're arguably two of the best in-ring workers AEW's got and they have excellent chemistry together.
Ruby vs. Ford? Nah, I'm good on that being a shorter match.

Heck a 8 to 10 minute Ruby vs Ford match would be more than half the Queen of the Ring tourney right there. That makes this tournament already better than that one.

Yeah, I hope they DON'T have the first match go 19:25 just to prove a point. If the match needs that long to tell it's story, great. But doing something just to stick it to WWE reeks of TNA booking.
That said, if Shida/Deeb did go 20 minutes, that would make all the sense in the world.

Kinda weird they had a vignette with Skye Blue mentioning she'd be in the TBS Tourney, but she's not in the actual bracket. I guess getting squashed thoroughly by Jade took her out of consideration.

If it was an isolated match, I'd be all for it. Can agree with that - a draw would be an awkward move in a tournament with a bye in each quarter final. The angle feels like it calls for a little more tension, though, so Shida getting her win against Deeb here would also feel weird. Deeb winning means a heel/heel match in the quarter final, but Khan already did that with Nyla/Britt in the last tournament to great results...so hey, maybe the point of this is to make a heel/heel match happen.
