Where do you rate Jerry Lawler as a commentator?
Personally, I find him shrill and unpleasant to listen to. Sometimes he has some funny one-liners, but he doesn't have that lovable heel persona that Heenan had, nor does he sell the match like Ventura did.
Heenan always had an instinct for when it was time to slip out of the Weasel routine and just be a wrestling fan appreciating a great moment or give props where due. Lawler (the 90's version at least) just never stops pounding the jerk button.

Never had the emotional intensity of his promos.

Pre-1999 Jerry, yes.
Puppies era Jerry, no.

When he was a heel toadie defending Mr. McMahon and abusing the Hart Family in the 90s, he could be pretty fun.
The Puppies Era and through Ruthless Aggression, he was meh.
He’s been pretty bland throughout the WWE Universe and WWE Network years.
The heart attack, say what you will, still scary stuff. (Then he posted that pic of eating some super greasy food and giving critics the bird.)

He was of his time, and absolutely iconic to the Attitude Era... but that's where he should have stayed. What worked for that product didn't work later on and he sounded far more dated than his contemporaries did after the turn of the millennium.

He was pretty great when he first started but he's been insufferable since about 1998 or so. He's what JBL would have turned into if he didn't resign and what Corey Graves is also slowly turning into.

One of the best back in the day. One of the worst in later years, could replace him with his videogame commentary and lose nothing.
Throughout he has a shockingly bad memory, often forgetting iconic moments he called or what happened last week.

I've always found him obnoxious.

Excellent wrestler in his prime, but the drizzling shits on commentary….to me, he’s always made WWE programming a chore to listen to anytime he’s ever been on commentary

Loved him with JR. Didn’t watch back when he was with McMahon, but I still have love whenever he does it.

Heel Lawler up until about 1998 was one of the greats. After that, no thanks.

One of his best moments on commentary was judgement day 2000 for the iron man match between the rock and triple h. It was serious and he dipped beck into his experience of having hour long matches and he at one point wishes he could have sat down and talked to both wrestlers before the match. Compared to the majority of his stuff in this time period I thought it was great then and I still think it. It’s my favourite iron man match that wwe have done.
