So less than week now until the game come out and I must say I am not seeing any excitement around it at all. I personally think it looks cool and I appreciate the fact that they are being forthcoming that it is nothing like the Avengers game. But I worry that the Avengers will hurt this game unfairly. I don't what do you all think.

The size of the game and the dubious reputation of the Avengers title might haunt it. The excess attention on it by Square Enix at E3 didn't help.

I don't like Rocket's old man beard, I like him being Pete's bratty little adopted brother.

It's a pretty definite, "Wait and see if it's good and if so maybe pick it up when it's heavily discounted," game for me. The preview footage kind of was a tossup, though it did sour me on it how damn proud Square was of it to devote half of their E3 presentation to it to the point they started looping clips.

I can't say I'm particularly excited about GOTG after Square Enix messed up Avengers. Also a Guardians of the Galaxy game where you can only play as the least interesting of the titular Guardians in terms of powers doesn't do it for me either. Add in the whole Great Value MCU aesthetic of the game and I am so very apathetic towards it.

I'm a big fan of the developers so I'm hopeful. Excited at the possibility of another good solo player game. Its definitely a wait and see though.

Yeah, it's kind of just Avengers but without the bullshit money-grabbing scheme that game had with the "live service". Like, you have a game about a team, but you can't play as the whole team and while the designs look better than Avengers as far as "MCU-lite" goes, it's... still not good. Like, why is this shit so hard for Square Enix? I want a game where you can hot-swap between characters, with gameplay that isn't janky, and at least interesting looking designs if you're not wanting to shell out for MCU likenesses. Rocksteady's Suicide Squad looks like it's on the right track, but Sonic Heroes did this shit better.

I’ll check it out at some point, but having just gotten around to trying out the Avengers game I’m not super optimistic.

Exactly.... I'm not making the "mistake" I made with The Avengers. (Avengers was an ok game... just not worth the full price, IMO)

I'm highly skeptical
Feels like we are a half step away from "You died, pay 25 cents to continue" on your home console.

The install size is a little off-putting.

I quite liked The Avengers game, very repetitive, but the story was good and I liked that each of the characters genuinely felt like they were different. The amount of DLC has been pretty good too.
But this one.....I just dont find I care. The MCU Guardians are really devoid of most of their interesting traits and the way their comic counterparts have now become more like them is irksome.
We'll see when it drops I suppose.

They definitely need to get away from uncanny valley with these games. If they can't afford the likeness of the actors then don't try to fake it. It just looks cheap.

So reviews are coming out and so far everyone is saying it's pretty good. I expect this to be a sleeper hit.

If one game ever needed the ability to switch between characters instead of being locked to one guy, it's this one.

So, given I have a week off work and had PS Store credit and it got good reviews, I downloaded it despite my 'meh' attitude from the trailers.
It's ok. The story is holding my attention, but the game is very linear. It feels a bit like Final Fantasy XV in the gameplay, and Fallen Order in the level design being big, but linear.
There is definitely lots of scope for standalone DLC if they decide to go that way, and any sequel HAS to incorporate what The Avengers was able to do with character control swapping.
It's an odd jumble character wise of MCU influence, but comic back story and then weird mish-mashes of stories. I'm guessing they have been hamstrung with rules around what they can and cant use, as the story clearly feels like it was written to be set after a very specific event in the comics - but then someone has come along and made them change it, but they haven't necessarily changed up the enemies in some places, so they stand out as out of place.

If one game ever needed the ability to switch between characters instead of being locked to one guy, it's this one. I'd say Persona 3, but this one isn't a bad answer.
