Inspired by the Die Hard thread, these are movies that take place during Christmas, but Christmas is not a major plot point (and in some cases, isnt even mentioned). Some examples: Lethal Weapon Spider-Man (everything after the Thanksgiving dinner must technically take place during the Christmas season) Grumpy Old Men Iron Man 3 any other examples?

the Harry Potter movies always get trotted out at Christmas because there's always a major scene that takes place during Christmas
just watched The Shop Around the Corner, i'd say that counts. the only thing important about Christmas is that Christmas Eve is their busiest day of the year, and the scene is only a couple of minutes
Trading Places. gets erroneously labeled a Christmas movie because of the scene at the party, but even during it they're mostly focused on what's going to happen right after New Years.

If Shane Black is involved, there’s a decent chance of a film being set at Christmas : The Long Kiss Goodnight, The Nice Guys, Lethal Weapon, Iron Man 3, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

I'd say Shazam probably counts, movie does a fare bit with Christmas for set pieces and stuff but it's relatively incidental beyond fitting with the broader theme of family.

Spider-Man (everything after the Thanksgiving dinner must technically take place during the Christmas season) Similarly: Strange Days takes place in over the course of the last week or so of 1999, and there's a brief shot of a guy in Santa costume getting mugged in one of the opening scenes. Ghostbusters II ends on New Year's Eve, and though no time scale for the movie is given it presumably takes place throughout December. Bridget Jones's Diary begins during one Christmas period and ends around the following one.

Definitely a good example of an adjacent movie. To be fair, it was the first example (other than Die Hard) in the OP.

ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE, the James Bond film starring George Lazenby, is set at Christmas time. It doesn't affect the plot at all, but there's some Christmas-y stuff in the background here and there. And Bond falls in love and gets married!

It's kinda happened with music as well. East 17's Stay Another Day and Freiheit's Keeping the Dream Alive don't reference Christmas in their lyrics, but because of their December release are often boxed in as Christmas Songs.

Satoshi Kon's Tokyo Godfathers -- A fantastic movie about three homeless people finding a newborn baby girl in the garbage and trying to bring her back to her family starts on Christmas Eve and ends on New Year's.
New Year is the bigger holiday in Japan.

Surprised Batman Returns hasn't been mentioned yet.
EDIT: Never mind, it has been mentioned right above me.

Lethal Weapon! Definitely a good example of an adjacent movie. To be fair, it was the first example (other than Die Hard) in the OP. Yet, it unfairly gets the short end of the stick when discussing action movies set around Christmas-time. Also, would Gremlins count as this, or is it a Christmas movie?

Glad someone said Batman Returns. It deserves to be recognized as a Christmas movie as much as Die Hard is.

To me any movie set around the Christmas season that heavily features action, violence and horror is a Christmas adjacent film.

Glad someone said Batman Returns. It deserves to be recognized as a Christmas movie as much as Die Hard is. A good question to catch people out in a quiz is 'Which movie directed by Tim Burton is primarily set at Christmas'. Everyone will say Nightmare Before Christmas and then get very mad at you!

If you told people that Nightmare Before Christmas was directed by Henry Selick, most of them wouldn't believe you.
