https://www.instagram.com/p/CW9Gb-Wh3LM Technically WWE news but considering both under AEW label why not I mean I get it in terms of star power but I just never really cared when they went against each other in the E. Just didn't mesh well tho things could be diff now

Really, because if anything Bryan was fated to fight Sheamus given how many times it kept not happening.
That said I'm perfectly fine with it having not happened, based on their WWE work don't think they mesh well.

The only time I really remember them interacting much was during the AJ Lee stuff. That said, had Punk stayed and Bryan not had the temporary retirement, it probably would have happened eventually. Punk's always been a huge fan of his, such as holding him up as a positive example of an indie wrestler when he was shitting on Teddy Hart for his behavior, and WWE did at one point want to have a "prestige" match of sorts as a response to the buzz Kenny Omega and Okada were getting at a time, hence their later offers to Kenny and the Young Bucks. They'd have been prime candidates for that.
That said, I admittedly soured a lot of on Punk near the end of his run, so even if it had happened, hard to tell if it'd have been allowed the time and build to be anything special, or just a really good match like I'm sure their baseline would have been. Bryan could have a great match with toddler, whereas Punk can cut a promo on basically anybody, so I'm sure it'd have been at least a highlight of whatever 'Mania it'd have been on had it happened. Beyond that, impossible to say.

I liked one of their WWE matches well enough, but really, Punk is like the one decent-or-better wrestler that Danielson can't work magic with. It's for the better that it wasn't a Mania main event.

Honestly, they didn't click well in WWE. Maybe Bryan's current style would mesh better with Punk, but I'm on the fence of ever wanting to see them wrestle again

Nothing in WWE is ever “destined” because “plans change.”
In other words, until Vince’s infamously small attention span changes his mind to the next shiny object.

I fully expect one day for the main event of Wrestlemania to change during the show. Wrestlemania IX says hi. But wasnt that the plan from the beginning? Im not talking about a kayfabe change Im talking about Vince deciding during the show that whatever match he had built up for weeks isnt working and slotting in someone else, probably a part timer.

I saw them wrestle each other live on a Raw. Punk was WWE Champ and Bryan was WHC. It was the opening match of Raw and it wasn't advertised or treated like a big deal.

Their WWE matches weren't that great, I think they just don't have good chemistry

CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan? Eh, whatever.
CM Punk vs. Bryan Danielson? Hook it into my veins!

As disappointing as their WWE matches were, I'd like to see them have another go at it somewhere that isn't WWE. More structural freedom can only do them favours in finding a style that works for what they do.

They never tore the house down but Danielson is also basically at his very peak, so they may as well dance one more time. Why not? It's probably one of the top 3 matches AEW's got at their disposal.

I could see them fighting at All Out 2022 or the year after depending how long they keep them apart.

Danielson is also seemingly at a ridiculous peak, which can help Punk, in-ring at least, less so, but hey, it's not like he's a sandbag

Like punk doesn't suck, but that's the kind of energy involved.

Yeah I agree. The two most popular wrestlers in the company, it makes sense to book a Mania match with them.
But this is the WWE where you can take you biggest name in Cena, take his three biggest rivals in Orton, Edge and CM Punk and not book him in a singles match at Mania against any of them.

I think if the two get a chance to plan something out they may be able to pull something off though.
