I've noticed that when I put certain dvds in my PS3 (I have the old fat model), the contrast will go from dark to bright and back and forth. This didnt happen until recently, is the system dying on me? I should note that it doesnt happen to all dvds, it's random when it happens.

My fat PS3 died when the light turned yellow one day and never switched on again after that, the replacement fatty did the same thing a week after I bought it so now I have a slim. Point is I'm surprised yours is still alive after all this time.

My PS3 died 2 years ago. One day it just wouldn't power up. Still have a game trapped in it.
I was going to get a new system but I haven't yet. I may not. I've lost interest in games the last few years. The only things I brought were sports titles or Lego games.
Actually I find it more enjoyable watching people play games on YouTube rather than play them myself.

This happened with my fat model about 7-8 years ago and it turned out to have nothing to do with the PS3 and everything to do with the HDMI cable. Try either flipping it around (so the end that went into the PS3 now goes into the TV and vice versa) for a quick fix until you can try getting a new HDMI cord. My fat PS3 still works (although, being raised Catholic, I now feel super guilty about publicly calling it "fat" twice now when it's beautiful at any size).

Is there somewhere I can get a HDMI port for the PS3?

My PS3 is sitting in the closet at the moment. I could hook it up to play the games saved on the hard drive, but there’s something wrong with the power to the disc reader which causes it to immediately give up on spinning the moment to try to read a disc. I replaced the drive itself with a brand new one, so the issue isn’t in the reader itself.
Granted, I’m busy with my PS5 instead, but sometimes you just want to play Tales of Symphonia.

I'm sorry to hear that it's stopped working, but I'm glad that it was working for you until recently. My PS3 went funny years ago, for some reason it won't stay on for long enough, so it will turn off a few seconds after being turned on.
