With the possibility of it’s closing, I figured we could get nostalgic of how we all heard of it.
For me, I stopped watching wrestling after the Attitude Era. Then in 2005, I was 15, my dad got me Smackdown Vs Raw on PS2, and that led to me getting back into wrestling. Anywho, I was on Limewire (I know, we’re all old), looking for wrestling vids, and I downloaded a clip of that famous Low Ki vs Amazing Red where they do that “Matrix” spot with all the dodges by Red. I was just getting back into John Cena’s WWE, so that clip blew me away. I was hooked.
So, do you remember how you first heard of ROH?

Fight Network's Samoa Joe and Kenta Kobashi propaganda vids that they used to air all the time in 06 were formative for me lol

I remember reading a lot about how they were putting their first show together way back in 2002. Followed the results online, sounded like a good show mostly, but didn't give it much of a thought long-term. A lot of fly-by-night promotions had shown up at the time looking to fill the void of WCW and ECW, and considering how much it felt like that first ROH show was trying to emulate ECW rather then finding its own feel, I didn't have much confidence in it lasting.
But it did last, and since I had no way of watching it regularly at the time, it basically became background noise to my followings of WWE and TNA. It wasn't until like 2007-ish that RFVideo (I know I know) put a lot of ROH's old VHS tapes on deep discount that I was able to see whole ROH shows for the first time.

Thinking about it, that random ROH clip I found is 100% how I found the “iwc” back then. I just checked. My forum sign up date is July 10, 2005. That checks out lol

Someone on the efed I was on posted a review of Punk: The Final Chapter after seeing it live, after I had seen a few posts here and on the efed about Samoa Joe, Homicide, Punk, etc. I pirated a few matches to get a sense of who was who, bought Punk: The Final Chapter and Third Year Anniversary Part 1, and from there I was buying ROH DVDs with all my spending money.

I got back into actually watching wrestling early in 2004 when I heard Benoit had won the Rumble; I had backed off before then, I had watched 1998-early 2000 for WCW and WWF but ended up losing a lot of interest and would only check in on WWF occasionally circa 2001 through 2003.
At that point I looked up a forum to start talking wrestling on…hell, might’ve actually been this one, in our old form. Snooping around led me learning about TNA, guys like AJ Styles, etc., but I also heard rumblings about ROH and a champion named Samoa Joe who everyone was sure was going to end up on top for two whole years, an idea that kind of blew my mind.
I didn’t really discover it, though, until I got on my college’s Direct Connect channel and found some clips, but more importantly found Paul London vs. Bryan Danielson from Epic Encounter. That match may well have shifted my perception of what wrestling could be.
Jump ahead a few months and I see ROH’s website is having a Buy 3, get 1 free DVD sale, so I buy three old shows from 2002 but made sure to add Joe vs. Punk II, which everyone was talking about at the time. Soooo soon afterwards Joe dropped the belt to Aries, so it was weird to discover his reign more in retrospect.
Getting into ROH made ditching WWE by early 2005 very easy for me. Just lucky I had a job in school that allowed me to afford those DVDs.

I was buying tapes from RFVideo before they opened. Have the first two shows on VHS. Couldn't afford to get any more after that.

I known of ROH for a bit, but stumbled upon a hype video of Generico & Steen’s epic feud. That won me over and started watching them shortly after when the Sinclair show started.

I think someone posted a megaupload link to the Do Fixer/Blood Generation six man tag on the old Scott Keith RSPWFAQ board. I downloaded it, watched it, was annoyed because I was a huge WWE fan, and that was that.
By the end of 2006, I was following 411 manias live reporting of Final Battle to see if Homicide won. Funny how life worked out

I read about the 4-way Iron Man Match in PWI Magazine and it piqued my interest, then about 2 years later I bought one of the DVD's at a SunCoast video store and got hooked.

I first learned about them when I bought a few wrestling DVDs at a local video store in the early 2000s. One of them was the first Round Robin Challenge, which is a DVD that I still own.

Here. Then could actually watch it thanks to The Wresting Channel. Oh that glorius period when that channel existed. Breakfast watching NOAH, looking forward to TNA PPVs and some ROH inbetween.
Never really went back after that first couple of waves of stars left.

I randomly found The Wrestling Channel (now the UK's version of Fight Network) one day in like 2003 or 2004, and basically discovered that other wrestling still exists.

Thru messageboards. In late 2005, I started to check out ROH's 2002-2005 DVD's and fell in love to it instantly. I was a hardcore fan of it 'til the end of 2009...
