I had that show taped off of TV back when I was 12 and as soon as I watched it, I knew it was my favorite episode. I actually have another question, just because my memory is so foggy after 25 years lol were the commercials aired during Hardcore TV always for ECW merch? Because I remember the ads for like the Brian Pillman t-shirt (that they couldn't show without being thrown off the air) and for the videos (AND THE NIGHT KIMONA WANA LAYA DANCED ATOP THE ECW ARENA), but were there any actual commercials? I do know that my station would usually air the Dave Thomas Adoption Foundation commercial before and after the show, but I can't remember if they ever aired real commercials during it. Oh yes. The AmeriFit ad was the most infamous when I was watching ("We interrupt this program for a SPECIAL REPORT!") This? www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5GWZKyeYn0

OK, another question. Did ECW on TNN use licensed music, or were they forced to use cover tracks? I only ever saw ten minutes of the TNN show, when Tommy Dreamer beat Tazz, then immediately lost to Justin Credible, for the World Title. The TNN show used the same music the syndicated show and the PPVs did. From 1997 forward, though, some themes here and there got retired in favor of cover versions (Taz, Rob Van Dam, Justin Credible, Balls Mahoney). Also, the Pioneer Entertainment ECW DVDs would dub in Lemmy's cover of "Enter Sandman" even though The Sandman always used the Metallica version right up to the end of ECW.

Wrestlepalooza 97 is one of my favorite wrestling shows ever. That entire hour of content you listed is basically the epitome of everything I love in pro wrestling in one package. As for Benoit, Heyman said back in the Rise and Fall doc that he wanted him to be ECW Champion but then he got signed by WCW. I had that show taped off of TV back when I was 12 and as soon as I watched it, I knew it was my favorite episode. All of them except when they had sponsors. I learned about the Insane Clown Posse from the Great Milenko commercial that aired every episode for a couple months, and I think there was a deal where the showed a commercial for the record label that put out Tag Team's Whoomp There It Is.

They had to pay rights fees for the music on the Pioneer dvds, so they used the Motorhead version of Enter Sandman because it was cheaper. They put it on that ECW album with Sandman on the cover too.

They just removed entrances entirely on those DVDs but did license New Jack's theme "Natural Born Killaz" for some reason. Plus, they were able to use the few themes that composed for ECW by Harry Slash.

The Wiki page says it was a label I've never heard of that was a subsidiary of some other label I never heard of. But I could have sworn Heyman said it was Jive Records. Edit: Of course, this is Paul Hey man we're talking about. The statement itself could be Jive.

Heyman claimed on his 2014 WWE doc that WWE started paying ECW $1,000 per week in late-1996 to make up for a sponsorship ECW lost when WWE signed Scorpio. However, that story makes no sense because he claimed the sponsorship came from Tommy Boy Records for using "Whoomp, There It Is" as Scorpio's theme. As far as I know, that song doesn't belong to TBR.

Yeah, in Titan Shattered, it was Tommy Boy Records that was cited as the rights holder (taking the info from the WWE doc, most likely). But, as Stingray pointed out, it's Heyman, so you never know what to believe. Personally, I'd believe if he thought he was scamming WWE out of a grand a week and they just went along with it because hey, they WERE taking a lot of his talent in one go (they also took Doug Furnas, Dan Koffat and Terry Gordy at the same time).

Where’s the best place to watch classic ECW? I know the easiest would be peacock but I really want to watch it with the original audio. If you don't mind giving money to an attempted child molester, RF Video sells a whole bunch of intact ECW, but that would get very expensive. That's the only legal avenue I would be able to think of It's posts like this which remind me of just how shit the wrestling business is. f*** RF.
