Well, it was only a matter of time but still...does the National Film Registry still have that much indication over how historically, culturally or aesthetically significant the entered movies are? I mean from what I saw of Pink Flamingos on a Cinema Snob episode several years ago, it looked like it has as much reason to be in the National Film Registry as Manos: The Hands Of Fate would have (though I am open if Brad didn't know what he was talking about with that episode and if that movie has more meaning than what I saw in it).

It was the film with the amazing duel between Luke and Vader and also the first appearance of Ian McDiarmid as the Emperor.

Since it says 1983 Return of the Jedi and not Special Edition...that means the "YUBNUB Cut" has been officially saved by the Government from Disney/Lucas.

It was a great movie before Lucas vandalised it and Abrams undermined it.

too bad Jedi got in there this late--- George Lucas and his many needless changes to it are now the only version that will be saved by the National Film Registry

There are a TON of films that just blows my damned mind have not made it into the registry. Just listing ones from the last 50 years with only one selection for each, these are my picks (spoilered due to length): {Spoiler} - Fiddler on the Roof (1971) - Fritz the Cat (1972) - Charlotte's Web (1973) - Foxy Brown (1974) - Death Race 2000 (1975) - Bad News Bears (1976) - Slap Shot (1977) - Dawn of the Dead (1978) - The Warriors (1979) - Caddyshack (1980) - History of the World Part One (1981) - Rambo: First Blood (1982) - National Lampoon's Vacation (1983) - The Karate Kid (1984) - Rocky IV (1985) - An American Tail (1986) - Predator (1987) - Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad (1988) - When Harry Met Sally (1989) - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) - Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991) - My Cousin Vinny (1992) - The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) - Stargate (1994) - Casino (1995) - Scream (1996) - Boogie Nights (1997) - American History X (1998) - The Iron Giant (1999) - Gladiator (2000) - Training Day (2001) - Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) - Elf (2003) - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) - King Kong (2005) - Letters from Iwo Jima (2006) - Superbad (2007) - Iron Man (2008) - District 9 (2009) - Inception (2010) - Bridesmaids (2011) [/quote] Of these, Fritz the Cat and Terminator 2 are my biggest "WTF" absences.

It's been a while since I went, but I recall their website gave regular citizens the ability to email and suggest films that should be in. I usually email once a year. Don't have my list on hand, but a handful of titles did eventually get added over time.

Of these, Fritz the Cat and Terminator 2 are my biggest "WTF" absences. Demanding T2 being in there is the exact same kind of wrong as Jedi actually being added. Big and expensive does not equal depth. (And mind you, I Love me some T2.) But then again, you suggested Rocky 4. So I'm not even sure if you are joking.

Demanding T2 beeing in there is the exact same kind of wrong as Jedi actually beeing added. Big and expensive does not equal depth. (And mind you, I Love me some T2.) You're dismissing its significance and impact on visual effects and CGI. Even if it's just a sequel, it absolutely has its place to be honored. Matter of personal preference, but if you really want to go there, it was between that and Silverado. I chose the one that I felt was more in line with the spirit of the National Film Registry, but if you've got other films you feel are better suited from 1985 that are yet to be entered, I'm all ears.
