Well, it was only a matter of time but still...does the National Film Registry still have that much indication over how historically, culturally or aesthetically significant the entered movies are? I mean from what I saw of Pink Flamingos on a Cinema Snob episode several years ago, it looked like it has as much reason to be in the National Film Registry as Manos: The Hands Of Fate would have ( though I am open if Brad didn't know what he was talking about with that episode and if that movie has more meaning than what I saw in it). It's Cinema Snob, of course he doesn't. Not a quality source of film theory discourse, just some poorly-lit tepid gimmick farming web traffic by stealing moments of the works of actual creatives without compensating them.

That’s a great list. Good call on Nightmare on Elm Street. Which sense because the original Halloween is in there as well. Happy to see Jedi and LOR in their as well.

Demanding T2 beeing in there is the exact same kind of wrong as Jedi actually beeing added. Big and expensive does not equal depth. (And mind you, I Love me some T2.) You're dismissing its significance and impact on visual effects and CGI. Even if it's just a sequel, it absolutely has its place to be honored. Yeah, All of the Star Wars movies (and T2) are important in the advancement of visual effects. Hell Jedi won a special Academy Award FOR That reason. That's why it's added to the film registry, not only because it is one of the most popular movie franchises of all time. and even if Jedi was only getting in because it's part of the original Star Wars Trilogy... so? Again it's one of the most popular franchises of all time, that has never fully waned in popularity even when they weren't making movies. I would think that qualifies as "culturally significant".

Matter of personal preference, but if you really want to go there, it was between that and Silverado. I chose the one that I felt was more in line with the spirit of the National Film Registry, but if you've got other films you feel are better suited from 1985 that are yet to be entered, I'm all ears. I would argue that 'the color purple' deserves to be in there more, than 'Rocky boxes down communism'. You're dismissing its significance and impact on visual effects and CGI. By that logic we would have to add the Golden Compass soon. If you add movies based on tech advancements or amount of nerds still obsessed with it, you can basically stop doing this.

I mean I guess arguing that Rocky 4 is like a quintessential 80's movie is there... but like so is Commando and that was also 1985 (note I'm not saying this should get in necessarily either especially over the Color Purple) Other things that I could see getting in from 1985... Weird Science (though the Breakfast Club is in and they might consider that enough Brat Pack adjacent for the year), The Sesame Street Movie Follow that Bird (cause Sesame Street... and it being the final performance of Jim Henson as Kermit, Ernie and others on film) Brazil for being influential and weird >-> Pee-Wee's Big Adventure since it launched multiple careers including Tim Burton who went on to inspire others. I dunno the Last Dragon... >_>

If I had to pick just one, it's unquestionably The Avengers for me. I'm not even a huge fan of the movie itself, but you are flat-out lying to yourself if you don't feel it shaped the film industry for the entire decade.

I'd have to look up a list of films that came out in 2012 because my brain is dumb. but Avengers should definitely get in at some point... due to how everyone tried to poorly copy the formula for it.

Fellowship is the bigger deal for me but that's awesome regardless. Be happy for Fellowship all you want. But there's only one Return. And it ain't of The King, its of The Jedi.

Battleship's a shoe-in. What? Don't look at me like that, Battleship is awesome! No, I'm not being ironic.
