Looking at the comics and the animated specials, I really do believe that Schulz had a lot of unresolved issues with women. The only female character he wrote that wasn't regularly shown to be either a bully or a jerk to Charlie Brown was Marcie, who was written to be quiet and subservient. There really are a lot of unfortunate implications to it. They say to write who you know

Yet ANOTHER strike against It's Your First Kiss, Charlie Brown. As she does just that after Lucy pulls her antics. In fact, she was made poster child of what was wrong with this special, as two of her instances of running down Charlie Brown were cut out of the soundtrack after viewers complained about it. (Never mind that they keep other examples of her being hard on CB, AND joining the other girls in continuing to taunt him which is REALLY out of character...)

Peppermint Patty was too dense to know she was treating Chuck bad. She did things like this
Then again Charlie Brown was too oblivious to her feelings there’s that

There really are a lot of unfortunate implications to it. Sally was his little sister, which comes with typical sibling stuff, but she clearly had affection for him. Peppermint Patty wasn't mean to him, per se. She just was a tomboy who expressed affection the same way boys do. Eudora was extremely nice to Charlie Brown (and everyone, for that matter). Frieda, the TV specials notwithstanding, was generally very nice to Charlie Brown. Granted, she stopped getting used well before the comic strips ended, but that changes nothing. Was Lydia nice to Charlie? I don't recall.

Remember; Lucy deliberately did the "pull the football away" bit during an actual football game and had the temerity to *blame* Charlie Brown later. This. All of this. Everyone blamed Charlie Brown for losing the homecoming game, but nobody seems to remember Lucy pulling the ball away, costing them FOUR POINTS. Granted, Charlie Brown had a punt blocked for a touchdown, but that was more terrible blocking by the line on a punt. It's like, do you kids know how to block? I think that cost them another 7 points. You would think that someone would get in Lucy’s face a bit & tell her that wasn’t the time for that crap. (Maybe Peppermint Patty, who never seemed to have a problem getting up in someone’s face when it was appropriate?) Or, you know, maybe put someone else in the game as the holder. In the rest of the gang’s defense, though… Is it possible that Lucy was so sly in pulling away the ball that no one else in the game noticed? We’ve pretty much established that she was enough of a monster that she’d have been capable of causing someone such grief while covering her own tracks. And I don’t recall anyone else, except maybe Snoopy, ever being present when she pulled that trick on him in a non-game situation; and with CB taking all manner of abuse from her, I could see him never telling anyone else. (Never mind that they keep other examples of her being hard on CB, AND joining the other girls in continuing to taunt him which is REALLY out of character...) Interesting. I had noticed those two spots in the DVD cut where PP is mouthing something but the audio is garbled. I was wondering what the deal was, so question answered. And to your point about PP acting out of character in that special—yeah, I’d say that’s another significant issue with First Kiss. Peppermint Patty? She regularly beat him in sports, and had an unreciprocated crush, but I don't recall her mistreating him. Peppermint Patty wasn't mean to him, per se. She just was a tomboy who expressed affection the same way boys do. Agreed (First Kiss aside). I mean, she’s definitely overly pushy, at times to the point of being rude. But it seems that she & Charlie Brown both value their friendship, and she has been apologetic at times for taking it a little too far.

As a kid I never thought of her as a bully but definitely a loudmouth attention hog. Now, looking back, she's definitely one of the more fun and sympathetic characters. You should have admitted you liked her "Chuck"; you weren't going to do much better.

Lucy offers psychological counseling without a license for a nickel. We have no idea the turmoil she's wrought on the mentally ill in desperate need of help.

Though I will say that in her role as psychiatrist, she generally conveyed sympathy toward her #1 patient, despite the fact that she was a primary source of his issues. Driving the poor guy to seek psychiatric help & then profiting off that need—it would seem that Lucy had quite a racket going.

Her crowning moment of awful came in the episode about the girl with cancer, who she says to the effect of, she deserves it because she’s a weird kid. It’s widely believed that Charles Schulz based Lucy on his first wife, so take that for what you will. Did this seriously happen?

I mean, when you have super-heroes against you, that should tell you that you're doing something wrong with your life.

What would have been funnier is after Peter beat her up, she still pulled the football away. And when asked why she would do that she simply says "I am Lucy Van Pelt. Killing hopes and crushing dreams is what I do, it is who I am". Then Peter spin-kicks her. ....Road House
