What i mean by that is that TV and movies often depict women having their water break and going into labor right away and not being able to make it to the hospital. The few pregnant friends I've had had contractions for weeks and absolutely new it was coming soon, but not emergency right away. Has anybody ever experienced what entertainment shows or is that all just for the dramatics?

Not personally, but Seth Meyers stand up Lobby Baby describes his wife's water breaking and then delivering their baby in the lobby of their apartment building. It can happen, just sounds like those stories are few and far between
When Rachel was having Emma on Friends, it was an ongoing gag that her labour was taking forever and had all these other pregnant ladies in and out of the same room as her with easier contractions, and much faster to deliver

One of my friends' waters broke around 7pm and her son popped out about 10pm.
My son, on the other hand, took about 36 hours to arrive.

My oldest daughter took two pushes even though she was 10 and 1/2 lbs. quickest of the 3. Doctor stepped out for a second and kissed the whole birth.

I've never seen any childbirth and I intend to keep it that way.
I tell every woman I'm with that if she has my kid I'll be right there holding her hand...and facing the opposite direction of her vagina.

A lady I used to babysit for, had it happen with both kids. The younger was a matter of her calling her husband, to get home because she was about to give birth. When he walked in, the baby was mostly out.

My second child went from "In Labor" to "Delivered" in under 90 minutes. Given, she was late and her mom needed induced, but it was still pretty damned fast all things considered.
