Today, in 1981, the second Raccoons special aired on CBC, according to a Facebook page on Ottawa animation (Wiki says it was 12/20/81, however). Well either way, we're close enough.
Sophia Tutu makes her debut, as do the bears.
EDIT: A search on Newspapers.com has it on the 20th.

All of the specials are fun, but I’m mainly hyped for the Lost Star anniversary. That was a fever dream, it was so batshit.

This is my favorite special, the songs are just the best of the special. I got to love that Islander promotion. You think a Canadian cartoon promote a Canadian team, just shows how popular they were in the early 80's, the heart of the dynasty.

I remember watching when it was a full cartoon. I didn't realize there were specials but then I was born in 83 so I guess that makes sense. I wonder if CBC Gem has it. I've been meaning to check it out.

I've been meaning to check it out. Kind of like how I thought Lost Star was the pilot, as it were, for the series. It was the first time I saw The Raccoons at all. Only when I watched reruns on The Disney Channel did I learn of the first two specials, and the clipshow special.

To tell the truth, I think the Evergreen Grand Prix episode was the first one I saw, either that or the one where Cyril got a surprise birthday which I think was the regular series pilot. Disney Channel aired “Let’s Dance” at some point and I saw that before I saw the older specials, making me extra curious why Cyril had gone full international terrorist all of a sudden.

Disney Channel aired “Let’s Dance” at some point and I saw that before I saw the older specials, making me extra curious why Cyril had gone full international terrorist all of a sudden. First full episode I saw was The Chips Are Down! (the one I consider the veiled drug addiction episode...) By the time I was watching, LS seemed to be the only special TDC still aired, though apparently a showing of Let's Dance! showed up when I wasn't paying attention, and i didn't record it. While I did see all the specials by the time I saw LD!, there was one thing I first saw there before actually seeing it in the actual show: the animation sequence to Fallin', Fallin'. Because TDC (and actually, the local airing when I first watched it) only used the two-part format of Lost Star, which cut out a lot from the show. Including Fallin'.
