But I got bored with not enough delivery orders coming in so decided to go back to work to have some consistent income.
Boy do I regret it. People treat their damn bowls of beans like they’re eating filet the way they’re picky about it. If we’re out if something we’re out…you don’t get something more expensive for the same price. If McDonald’s runs out of cheeseburgers you don’t get a double quarter pounder for the same price. Plus the table that audio recorded what they considered employees and a manager being rude and used it to get a free meal.
Don’t get me started on the fact that sick employees are constantly allowed to work (plus tons of sick customers hacking all over the place.) One was at work recently coughing everywhere and ended up with Covid. They also don’t care if we can give good service or not and will cram 50 tables in at once If they have to because…$$$$$$$.
I need a return to bartending so I can stop bring so damn nice. We get more leeway on being assholes back.

One time in college, this motherf***er wasted three f***ing steaks because he said he wanted medium rare and he said they weren't.
Bitch, I eat medium rare steaks, they were f***ing medium rare.

The pandemic has really brought out the worse in people, and we haven't even started seeing it yet. This is just the tip of the iceberg right now.

In my case, the pandemic has made some of the customers in my call center a little more antsy about their paper delivery for fears of COVID-19. That’s understandable IMO but I also have had to deal with ruder people than usual over the phone, I got one call with a person all like “I dont want you prick’s spreading diseases with that physical copy!” It’s less headache inducing than how they’ll usually gripe about editorials, but still tiring.

It's amazing how far a little understanding of a situation can get you. Anyone who yells at a person working in a customer service position, whatever that position may be, is yelling at someone who does not have the authority to do whatever it is that's being demanded of them anyhow. Things have gone much better for me - and much more pleasantly - when I either had patience with the limitations of the person I've got trying to help, or I explicitly told them that I was angry but didn't want to yell at them, and to transfer me to someone who is appropriate to get angry with.
I know crappy things happen, and everyone's especially on edge lately, but that also extends to the staff member you're taking it out on. At the very least, if someone lashes out at a worker, they should apologize and acknowledge that they were wrong. I've never held it against someone who had the decency to at least do that much.
