I was just thinking about Flair's 2002 run, and until he hooked up with HHH, it wasnt really very memorable. I'll give you the Undertaker feud, and the Flair/McMahon match was fun, but after that he became yet another evil authority figure feuding with Austin, and by the summer he was just another wrestler, jobbing to Brock, Rock, and even Rico in what were basically throwaway matches. If he hadnt joined up with HHH in the fall, there's a good chance he wouldnt have been in the company by next summer (or at least he'd be retired and put into a road agent role).

He was booked as crap in early 2002. And then the Summer of 2002 he was losing left and right if memory serves me right. HHH really did save his career.

It's really odd compared to Hogan's comeback from the same year was (yeah, Hogan was a bigger star than Flair and all, but still,,).

Eh, he was still booked stronger than he probably should have been for the most part (except for the baffling loss to Rico). He beat Vince at the Rumble, put up a great fight against Undertaker at Wrestlemania, beat Eddie at KOTR and beat Jericho at Summerslam. Those last two in particular I remember making Eddie and Jericho look really bad. Eddie went from the biggest match of his career v Austin at KOTR and potentially the beginning of his main event push coming 2 years earlier to Austin walking out and instead having to lose to old man Flair in a boring 20 minute match.

He lost to Rico, but that was to kick start the HHH alliance

His 2002 was better than his 1999 and 2000 🤷♂️

What's jarring is how he looked like he aged a dozen years between 02-06

Definitely could have been treated as a bigger deal by not losing. Imagine an alternate X8 with Hogan/Austin and special attraction Flair/Rock.

I remember enjoying his feud with Jericho. Sure he lost a lot of matches post co-owner but it all made sense in the end. Him losing to Rico and failing to beat Jericho for the IC title is what led to him joining Triple H.

To me Flair in the WWF/E after his initial debut just looked sad and out of place. He was still great doing his schtick but he shouldn't have been in the ring that often once he was over 50. I understand, he needed the money due to his poor managing of his life

His 2002 was better than his 1999 and 2000 🤷♂️ Yeah, who could forget "Kevin Nash hands him a world title because he feels sorry for Ric"?

What's jarring is how he looked like he aged a dozen years between 02-06 Yeah, Ric came in looking very good for his age and then from the start of Evolution until like a year later he aged fast All the drinking and partying caught up to him
