Put the TNT title on Bryan Danielson & that's when it will become interesting again Ethan Page as TNT Champion would make it plenty interesting, Danielson is also not the only dude who could win the TNT title to "Make it interesting again", that roster is stacked I'm just saying him winning it doing weekly challenges like he wanted to do with the IC title would be good TV

My only issue with Sammy's run is I felt he didn't have one good storyline for a title defense, although most of his defenses were Cena US Champion open challenge fun though.

Being fair I can't remember the last time anyone had a good storyline as TNT Champion. ... I'm not entirely sure it's happened at all. It's not really a belt they get much use out of narratively.

Sammy getting stuck in the MOTY feud really did a number on his reign (and that he's still stuck in it is a damn shame), but this...yeesh.

I'm not sure how anyone can be surprised by that result. Sammy has been a meh TNT champion. I'm surprised cause I thought this was the point where Sammy's title reign was actually gonna ramp up from open challenges matches with srs grapplers with srs faces. Thought it was gonna be Pillar Man city.

I wouldnt call it a storyline but Miro's God Gimmick was birthed from winning the belt essentially, and that was nice

Good wrestler, really good on the mic when he gets the chance to talk To each their own I guess?

I was assuming that Sammy would blow past Cody and maybe lose to Scorpio with the way they'd set it up, but like. Now it looks like this was all to pivot into Cody/Men of the Year? A feud that makes absolutely no sense unless they're deliberately trying to use Cody's increasingly nuclear heel heat to get Scorpio and Ego over as faces, which goes against the thing that works about those two, IE, that they're skilled in every way that matters but bland enough that they aren't seen as cool? It's mystifying, especially because Cody has become such a tangle of nonsense, and Cody has had enough "because Cody" wins that it's hard to have faith in it.

I think the Hook thing was shitposting because I can find zero other people mentioning it.
Though apparently for his match there was a huge, "Send Hook!" chant.

My thought is Guevara might be taking a leave due to his personal life. Breaking up with Pam and then having to deal with the online fallout from shitty people (Like seeing a tweet saying "Now that he lost he can go finger Tay under the table in catering" for example) he might have requested a mental break as much as a physical one. Maybe not the case, but it'd make sense. Cody seems like he is deliberately trying to take on worse and worse heels. Lambert is a heat magnet and the crowd still boos Cody. I think the point we're seeing here is they are spelling out no matter who Cody fights, the crowd has turned on him, which is what Malakai meant when he said he won. I think Cody is turning desperate to still be the hero, the "From one good guy to another" line when talking to Guevara, that he's just blindly charging into feuds with villains, when it just isn't working, it's only worsening. Lambert outright said it, "They gave me an impossible task, get Cody Rhodes cheered, but how am I supposed to do that when Cody's an even bigger dick than I am??"

Much like Hangman's loss in the elimination match: if this is a patch job to give Sammy Guevara a necessary break, I am so completely and totally all for it, all else be damned. Just...Cody's booking has been playing with the fire of audience distaste, and that sort of thing comes back to bite a promotion when what should be a "safe" fallback option becomes frustrating or repetitive.

Sammy‘a TNT Title run was a bit of a dud. I’m not sure how much of it is on him, and how much of it was the booking. But something never quite clicked?
Cody HAS to know he’ll get massive heel heat for this right?
Also Leyla Hirsch needs to be on TV FAR more than she is.

I’d like to think that, once AEW shows their hand with this angle, the ends would justify the means here, but the issue is that the means have been a bit Fireworks Factory for months now, which is seemingly 99% of the problem.

I’ve said the HHH/ Jarrett comparisons are overkill in the past as he makes himself look second best a lot of the times even if he always has the last word in a feud. This is possibly the first time I’ve taken pause and wondered if they weren’t overkill after all.
It does make a change for Cody to get the first word in a feud so maybe this is a wait and see situation.

I'm ... confused if only for the timing. It was clear that Cody would be massively booed, but winning the title back almost exactly a year after Brodie Lee's death, that must have been a factor in their decision. But what factor? What reactions did they expect?

I think a lot of people waited around to see if something was going to happen storyline wise. I was there tonight and Cody got some pretty good heat.
