Whatever happens, I just kind of want the conversation around Cody to get a whole lot less tedious. "Cody's presentation can be a bit much" and "Some people are really creepy in their hatred for him" are both true, but it just feels like currently, we're in a place where both have been driven into the ground. Just kind of hoping for something new to talk about re: Cody. I think sometimes a wrestlers gets on peoples nerves so much they just need a place to vent about it. I think it's fine as long as nobody is flaming etc. It can be compared to the John Cena and Roman Reigns discourse, though not quite as severe if only because Cody isn't as popular as Cena or Roman (so less people complaining and defending him). Yeah, people need to vent, but it just gets tiresome as someone on both sides of it (I was largely a Cena fan but really didn't like Roman's big face run). Another thing the three have in common is regardless of how I feel of them as wrestlers/characters, I like them as people. Like, as sick as I was of Roman Reigns, Joe Anoa'i seems like a really chill person and his talking about his cancer diagnosis brought tears to my eyes. And I'll never forget what Cody did for the Huber family as Jon was dying from a horrible disease.
TBH, I don't mind Cody winning the TNT Championship because I think it can finally lead to something with the win being a catalyst. And Sammy's run has been kinda running on fumes anyway. But there's definitely been some weird and cringey Cody moments in 2021 that I haven't been a fan of, though I generally like him more often than not.

Cody's going to be AEW's big bad next year, isn't he?
Sammy's run wasn't good and that's not his fault, he won the belt while not in a feud with Miro, had no real feuds for the belt and kept on being Jericho's sidekick when he should have walked away after the MJF betrayal, made a big save before going off as a solo face. With Cody, they'll have something planned, I just hope Sammy recovers.

Is the bold new direction for Cody going to be actually doing something interesting instead of just spending ages making vague promises that something interesting is planned?

Random and utterly baseless speculation, but considering the "bizarre" remark, something which might be fun:
What if this ends up involving Bray/Windham, with Cody spiraling into deluded madness and our favorite Fiend doing a callback to his batshit insane match with Cena, given the comparisons between the two? And they're currently dragging out the angle because of his current movie commitment?
With the earlier Malakai feud, the whole arc would be bookended with creepy supernatural shenanigans, and could be an excuse to explain away moments like the supposedly-clean-cut babyface doing a flaming table spot.

If the story is good, I’m willing to go on that bizarre ride. Some will dismiss it outright because Cody exists, but I’m willing to see what this will bring. And at least with a belt he will have some direction and more importance, which his 2021 really kinda lacked overall.

Whatever this strange new direction is, I want AEW to solidify it. Make it clear, if it's gonna be strange, make it strange as hell. If he's gonna go mega heel, make it so.
If he thinks he's gonna Bret Hart this thing, and have a hometown crowd, well... So far only MJF has done that.
I beg of AEW though. Do not make him a corporate champ mixed with "Super Cena". We already technically have that. It's Roman Reigns.

Problem is we’ve been on line waiting for this ride for the last 6 months.

I'm down for bizarre but it has to be a concise bizarre. Be weird, but commit to it. Even if it's somehting people are supposed to draw their own conclusions about don't make it a whisper we can barely hear; present something ambiguous and controversial, sure, but do it loudly. Cody's best has been when he's dramatic and weird and impossible to ignore, so the character direction he's been taking being so backwards and lacking in actually paying off its dramatic elements has been a chore.

He's not out here cutting promos about magic beans and quoting Sylvester the Cat so nah, we aren't at that point yet.

Hey, if he can find a new story to tell in professional wrestling, good luck to him, hope it works out. But… you know… ACTUALLY TELL IT, don’t be fiddlef***ing around expecting us to do the work and fill in the gaps to try and make it make sense in hindsight. He's not out here cutting promos about magic beans and quoting Sylvester the Cat so nah, we aren't at that point yet. Being pedantic, that was Roman from 2015.

Well if we wanna get more technical here, dropping two matches to Malakai Black, one which was a flat out massacre also takes him out of the realm of 2016 Roman, who for quite a time just was not given any weakness whatsoever... which has pretty much double backed to what heel Roman is in 2021...

Just as delusional. The only difference is the length, so far. The other differences being WWE audibly censoring the boos and them just stubbornly pushing ahead, I feel like Cody is nodding a bit to this, but he is actively pushing for the boos and disdain to accelerate and stay consistent and it's pretty blatant.

I feel like he's thinking he's doing something completely special and different but he's not and that's the gimmick. He's a heel. If we're sitting here in 6 months and this actually is something novel like a genuine tweener, I'll eat my words, but this feels like heel stuff through and through.

We already technically have that. It's Roman Reigns. Having a corporate champ would be a horrendous idea because the last thing AEW needs is for the company to be the heel. The WWE has been heel since the 90s and it made it a hell of a task to elevate faces to the main event. We've been there, dome that and the McMahons drove it into the ground with authority.

I’m basically one of the Monty Python Holy Grail people yelling “get on with it” at this point. We’ve been the prologue whatever this story is for ages now. And that’s precisely why it feels so boring.
