I hated that segment tonight. I don't mind Lambert's schtick most of the time and honestly, I don't dislike Brandi that much either.
It was just another mess of "should I be cheering for anyone here because they're all awful [kayfabe] human beings" riddled with the kind of sexism I just do not want to hear in wrestling in 2021.

I feel like I miss something every time Lambert cuts a promo and people here shit on it. I liked a lot of his jabs this week, hell I didn't even hate Brandi's part. I thought earlier Lambert promos were worse than this
Brandi's not a promo wizard for sure, but they did the right thing if they were gonna do this segment, Brandi actually got the crowd on her side, Dustin getting attacked got heat, no Cody. Cody not showing up to help his wife or his brother but to defend his belt is a really interesting story point to me, I hope they expand on it. Like he cares about the belt more than his actual family.

I’m convinced Brandi and Cody are WWE characters trapped in AEW. Well, I guess it’s more accurate to say AEW is trapped with them. At least the fans are.
Most toxic characters is an understatement.

This isn't even an Anti Brandi thing I just dont think getting her involved with Lambert is a good decision unless it somehow leads to PVZ being used in a match I guess

When Brandi goes nuts in promos, she can get the crowd into it.

But supposedly some people claimed it was Jerichos fault, and not that he was told to cut promos like that I feel like I miss something every time Lambert cuts a promo and people here shit on it. Brandi is collecting Ws on Dark and Elevation, so yeah its likely that its leading to PVZ beating Brandi, and also PVZ (if she is actually good) might get the Hook reaction

Count me in on loving to see PVZ destroy Brandi if that's the end game. It'd be a huge acquisition if AEW could get her full time.

He's not out here cutting promos about magic beans and quoting Sylvester the Cat so nah, we aren't at that point yet. He's def bullshitting and stringing us along tho Unlike Roman, he has direction in his character The Roman comparison is simply not true:

In someways, I think for once AEW is trolling the fans with the entire Codyverse and I kinda dig it. AEW generally listens to fans, but they have to know about all the discourse, and I think they kinda love it. It’s kinda fun to boo the shit out of all this, and I know, judging by Reddit at least, most are buying into it. And this position on the card is the really only place this kind of thing can work. Cody doesn’t dominate any show, he holds only the mid card title, and with that he’s not gonna be main eventing PPVs as long as he holds the belt. If Cody actually was trying to be THE top guy and was a World Champ babyface, this whole thing would be a disaster. And to some, it probably is.
But despite people hating him, or saying he’s boring, he certainly gets some of the most attention, good or bad. And to me, he’s one of the most interesting characters on the show. But it has to eventually lead him to snap and be a true heel, because I don’t know if you can do another 6 months of it.

Bully Ray liking it is how you know it's bad.

Bully Ray liking it is how you know it's bad. That segment was just as much of a bomb as the sound effect in his WWE themes.

Tranquilo Club on YT has an interesting take on this being Cody's Supervillain origin story.
It's one of the reasons I don't really complain about any of this anymore, I'm quite fascinated by the character Cody is cultivating for himself.
Sure it's gone on too long for some, but much like with the Elite and people being impatient with that, I hope the payoff will be worth the investment like that storyline was.

I've finally caught up on Cody's deal here lately, and after reading everyone's thoughts on his path recently..
Cody has the opportunity to be the biggest heel in AEW. Even more so than MJF. Cody is playing 3D chess with the audience, both live and in person.
You guys want him to turn "heel" so you can "boo" him? He's already a heel. You dont have to bad mouth the crowd, the authority figures (which thank God AEW doesn't have in an on-screen role). There is no turn to wait on. He's already there. The Pedigree tease, the "tone deaf" approach he has to negative crowd reaction..
Someone please save this, in case I'm wrong. But from everything I'm seeing, Cody is turning the definition "heel" into an entirely different entity. He's already a heel, while everyone thinks he's a face.
Bravo and congrats to the AEW creative team. It's working one thousand percent.

I mean, I don't really care if he turns heel or whether or not I can boo him, I just find what he's doing now incredibly dull and think his storylines keep producing some of the most awful segments AEW's ever put on like that promo tonight and everything about the Ogogo feud.

Which is the real problem here. People are booing him, but the narrative is generating sympathy and bad guys for him to beat while being in the right. It's a dissonance that isn't really going anywhere or saying anything presently, so if this is what it's all led to, then that's a trash story.

Sidenote I'm not going to be shocked if the women's viewership craters at that segment because some of that was yiiiikes.
Also that Brandi line was Netflix Cowboy Bebop, "You are black and you are male," levels of bad.

I think the MOTY feud is gonna be quick, at least for FAN's sanity I hope it is, but I felt there was a point to Cody not coming out at all for that segment, not when Brandi was out there alone, not when Dustin got taken out. But he's sure as hell gonna show up to defend the TNT Title It felt pretty deliberate they didn't put himout there for a reason
