This is also being discussed in the NFL thread, but given how massive a name Madden was, I felt it warranted its own thread.

Dude was football to me when I was growing up. When he was announcing the game, you knew it was "The Big One".
Here is my tribute: Usually the team that scores the most points wins the game. BOOM! It's BRETT FAVRE!

He’s a freakin’ icon, no other way to say it. His legacy will live forever in gaming by itself, let alone his actual coaching and broadcasting career. RIP

He was cool as shit in the 90's. The video game, being a SB winning coach, him calling all the big Niners/Cowboys games with Summerall, and who could forget the All-Madden team? His profile waned as he retired, but I've really never heard anyone say a bad word about the guy. Seemed like a true everyman.

He was the voice of football to me and it just hasn't been the same since. A true legend in every phase things.

Legendary. From his coaching career to commentary and of course the game. His reach is generational.

He lived to 85 and still died "unexpectedly". That's an impressive life to live.

RIP John Madden
coaching legend, all-time great announcer, video game franchise innovator and one of the biggest reasons the NFL became as popular as it is today
him and Pat Summerall were my favorite football announce team when I was younger

I feel embarrassed because I know virtually nothing of his actual NFL career. Everything I know about him is from Ace Hardware and foot commercials. And that one rarely heard of game.
