It’s officially 2022 so…let’s have this discussion. 15 options in no particular order - plus an OTHER option for anything I left out. You can pick up to 3.
So, what say you? What’s your list look like?
I still gotta ponder….so many bangers it’s gonna be hard to narrow it down to 3.

Omega/Danielson might've been the fastest half hour of wrestling I experienced in my life, a true masterclass.

It's between Omega/Danielson and Hangman/Danielson.
Best women's match was the lights out match.

Going with Bucks/Lucha Bros, that was insane.

I think there's a few matches on here that could make a claim for it.
I went for Omega vs. Danielson though because I thought it was worked perfectly. I still refuse to believe it actually was 30 minutes (I know it was, but HOW?) and somehow it still felt like they were holding back a little and a rematch would top it. I liked the ending too, with them just basically battering each other until the bell rang. The crowd reaction and setting was insane, too.

Genuinely struggled to decide
Bucks v lucha brothers and danielson v hangman could have easily got my vote, and shows how many great matches there were as MJF v Darby wasn't even an option and that was right up there
In the end I went for the lights out match, maybe part of the reason I enjoyed it more was because it was more unexpected so blew me away...or maybe its just because I've always enjoyed hard-core bloody matches lol

If I could pick four, I'd vote Deeb/Riho, which was fantastic, but I cannot, so it's Bucks/Lucha Bros, Hangman/Danielson, and Lights Out Rosa/Britt, for me.

For me it was Rosa v Britt right up until Hangman/Danielson. Just a pair of masterpieces.

I can’t pick between Lucha Bros/Young Bucks, Rosa/Baker, Omega/Danielson and Omega/Hangman but I’m also going to give some love to both Rush/Dante vs. Sydal/Morarity and Darby/MJF for being better than they really had any right to be.

Bucks/Lucha Bros was just an experience beyond wrestling fandom for me. Most emotional I've gotten watching a wrestling match in a very long time.
I can't seperate Omega/Danielson, Omega/Hangman, and Hangman/Danielson- they were all incredible matches that I loved for different reasons. A 3 way tie for second.
Having a hard time picking either Rosa/Britt or Darby/Punk over the other to round out my top 5; one felt like an era defining/era commencing match, and the other had the best crowd atmosphere of any other match all year. f*** it, joint 5th.

Wait, Danielson/Suzuki isn’t on this list?!
God, I have to reevaluate all of this again…

Top 2:
Hangman/Danielson. Danielson/Suzuki
As for my last pick I had a tough time choosing between Kingston/Punk and Riho/Serena. They were both amazing matches for VERY different reasons. But I think the former just narrowly beats the latter, based on story and pure emotion alone.
Honorable mentions to both Fenix/Omega for putting on MOTY contender so early in the year and Miro/Kingston for beating the holy hell out of each other.
There was so many damn good matches this year.

This was a REALLY tough call.
It’s a toss up between Omega vs. Danielson and YB vs. Lucha Bros I think.

It was REALLY HARD for me to leave the Britt/Rosa match outta my Top 3.
I finally decided on (in no particular order); Omega/Danielson Danielson/Suzuki Young Bucks/Lucha Brothers
Britt/Rosa are right there…and so is Omega/Rey Fénix from last January…and Hangman/Danielson….
f***, y’all. We can argue about other things in other threads but godDAMN 2021 was a ridiculously good year in terms of match quality for AEW.

Young Bucks v Lucha Bros in the cage just blew me away. I’ll put that just ahead of MJF v Darby from Full Gear which was an incredible opener.

Lord, that’s a lot of good matches. My gut and head says Lucha Bros Vs The Bucks. Single handedly made that entire PPV, imo. You had all the heat the Bucks had accumulated. Lucha Bros being fan favorites since AEW’s inception (and before). And an insane match in terms of physicality and storytelling.
