Personal favorite was Kingston vs Danielson, but I think overall I would say the Lights Out match deserves the trophy

I'm just so happy that there are too many solid MOTY candidates to choose only one.

Crazy that at te time of writing a match as good as MJF Vs Darby has no votes.
1. Lucha Bros Vs Bucks 2. Britt Vs Rosa 3. Danielson Vs Suzuki
The first is easy, second made Britt so means more, several matches could have took third but went for that one largely because it got its own show and wasn't a draw.

I have a heavy tag team bias by default, so Bucks vs. Lucha Bros is a super easy pick for me as MOTY. Everything about that match was raw glory and I went on an emotional rollercoaster that few matches have managed to take me on. Every step of its execution was brilliant, playing on so many elements of the Bucks' run, on the history between two teams that have bangers every time they meet, and on raw drama between two pairs of brothers. The innovative tag offence from two teams who always want to innovate, their use of the cage, THE MOMENT WHERE PENTA THREW HIMSELF INTO THE LINE OF THAT THUMBTACK SHOE SUPERKICK TO SAVE HIS BROTHER OUT OF LOVE. I think the best wrestling matches aren't ones you can show someone who's curious about wrestling, but the ones that teach someone who's a bit of a ways in and 'gets' wrestling just how amazing wrestling can be. That was this.

Just to note, I saw this shortlist before watching Rampage and went 'pfft, is that womens street fight there for the sake of it' and nope, nope, 100% deserves to be in a match of the year discussion.

Young Bucks vs. Lucha Bros.
That's how you sell a match, and that's where you want the crowd to be by the end of it.
There were other good matches, great matches even, but I'm a "crowd reaction" guy, and nothing topped how invested the crowd was by the end of that tag match. I've watched it back many, many times and it's still electric.

Went with Omega/Danielson. Two of the best in the world going at it in a classic. My second vote would be MJF/Darby.

I think I have to give the nod to another tag match.
Bucks/Lucha Bros Danielson/Omega Rosa/Britt Darby/MJF Hangman/Danielson
That's my list off the top of my head.

Man, Lucha Bros/Bucks was a really good match, but it wasn't near the best of the year.

It might just be recency bias but I went with Danielson/Page.

I almost want to rewatch these chronologically, but I'm trying to binge so many freaking things right now.

Omega vs. Danielson in NYC was my favorite MOTY for 2021.

It was a tough one but I went with Omega/Danielson. Page/Danielson and Bucks/Lucha were awesome as well.

Went with Omega/Danielson time limit draw. It should be considered a huge feat that these two had people convinced that it was going to be round two at full gear instead of Hangman finally winning the title.
One match I want to shout out, I loved Omega vs PAC vs Orange Cassidy. While not my match of the year, I think it was a really fun match overall. AEW should do more triple threats/ fatal four ways personally.
