12. The Simpsons (arcade beat-'em-up)
I was at a birthday party today for my little cousin (let's just put it this way, my aunt is close to me in age), and she and her husband rented an arcade trailer for a couple of hours. I found a cabinet of this inside. Of course, it's one of those smaller cabinets that you could buy for your home, the kind that has another game or two in it.
Anyway, the game is still fun as I remember it. More than three decades later, it's still one of my favorite beat-'em-ups, and still one of the best Simpsons games out there.

Far Cry 5 ( First Far Cry game I beat)
Koudelka: Been playing it on and off for years. Disc 2 had a crack in it, but managed to find someone on ebay who was selling just that disc. Disc 4 wouldn't load and had to get it resurfaced, though they weren't totally sure they could as they suspected a deep scratch on it. But it worked fine or at least enough to get to the end.

Bowser's Fury (Switch)
Definitely feels more like a DLC rather than a full game but still, I had fun with it.
The gimmick of Fury Bowser appearing every few minutes was not as annoying as I thought, I liked the various places around Lake Lapcat and the use of Bowser Jr. was interesting. Had 77 Cat Shines at the end so I still have 23 to find (which, unless there's a hidden island I have not found yet, are singular challenges around the lake since I have found all 5 shines on each light tower area).

46. SmackDown: Shut Your Mouth
This one was kind of an awkward one to return to. The core gameplay is still very fun but after awhile the story mode draaaaags. The Flair/ Vince feud just never f***ing ends, it's all the game is about for all but the first couple of months. Starting with the draft is fun but it's pretty quickly rendered entirely irrelevant so that's also rather annoying.
Yeah, I dunno. Had a lot of fun with it but it definitely wore out its welcome, Here Comes the Pain cutting the story to half the length was 100% the right call.

13. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (arcade version)
After getting the Cowabunga Collection for the PS4, I played this game. If I do the NES version, I might mark it as a separate entity as there are additional levels in that version. The same could be said for Turtles in Time regarding the arcade version and the SNES version.
Anyway, playing emulations of arcade games show that these games were, well, arcade games for a reason. The reason is to show much you're willing to spend on the game as you can die easily in games of that format. With that being said, this game still holds up. It still has a great soundtrack. Also, I could see that this game is regarded as an arcade classic as it came out when TMNT was red hot, but I think that Turtles in Time is an improvement. Still, I'll give it credit where it's due.
14. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time (arcade version)
FYI, if I were to list the SNES version, I will not only mention it's that version but I will also put the IV in the title. Anyway, as I had stated before, I have always felt that this was the better game in regards to the arcade games. Not just in gameplay, but also in the soundtrack and the level design. I also have to give Konami credit for going all out in including various characters in the TMNT lore. Being that the arcade version came out in 1991, they included Tokka and Rahzar, whom were only in the second live-action film that came out the same year.

14. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time (SNES version)
I wonder if this should count as a separate entity. There were differences from this one to the arcade version. The same could be said about the NES version of the arcade game. I mean this isn't the Tournament Fighters games were talking about here, which were three different games.
Anyway, I remember renting it back in 1997 when my local Blockbuster still rented out SNES games. I struggled and the farthest I got to was the pirate ship level. Some differences were that there was another Technodrome level, the boss in the stone age level was Slash, the pirate ship level had Bebop and Rocksteady as bosses, and the hoverboard level was done differently. Oh, and Super Shredder was the final boss.
It's still a good port.

---------------------------------- 14 - Judgment I said in the main Playstation thread after a couple of hours play that this felt like one that I was really going to enjoy, and I was right. I put about 70 hours into it, but a significant chunk of that was playing poker... and blackjack... and Outrun... and Space Harrier... and Mahjong, Koi Koi, Oicho Kabu, & Shogi (with varying degrees of understanding of how to play)... and... I liked the characters, I liked the story, the combat was solid, there's no obvious negatives that jump out apart from the minor one of the characters that you befriend that decide to help you out in fights and you have to stop and thank them at the end every single time they show up (which is most random fights), even if you took care of things before they even got involved.
Oh look, a cat.

Always been a pretty big fan of Pokemon Puzzle League / Challenge / Tetris Attack / Panel de Pon / Whatever You Wanna Call It, is a very good time killer. Would kind of like to see Nintendo do a new one at some point but I guess with both Puzzle League and Panel de Pon available on the Switch there isn't really much point.

48. Super Mario Bros. 2
Been meaning to do another run of this one for a bit, only been like a year but still, kind of always a game easy to pick up and kill a few hours with. Not really much to say about it but always had a soft spot for how different it is.

49. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Felt like redoing the last fight of Adventure and figured sure, I'll count that, it's a pretty drawn out battle.
It really sucks that that and Sephiroth's Classic mode are really the closest things to a boss rush. I guess they wanted to keep the bosses feeling somewhat special but World of Light sucks, like, a lot when taken on its own value and with the added Spirit rematches the whole concept of bothering to replay it is kind of rendered an utter waste of time.

50. Kid Icarus
Kind of made attempts to get into the original many times over the years and while I'd made it deep into it before had never actually finished it. Decided randomly, I guess since I'm in the mood to burn through some quick things right now, to do a run of it tonight and wrapped it up.
I feel like its biggest weakness is its bizarre anti-difficulty curve? The start of the game is pretty brutally difficult and, other than some obtuse map design in the Metroidvania levels, just gets easier as it goes. It's a weird way to structure a game. Leads to the game often feeling rather cheap when you start with it, and it still certainly can be at points, but as you develop a rhythm for it it can be pretty fun.

Deus Ex (2000)
Easily my favourite game when I was a kid, I was inspired by the hbomberguy video to go back and play for the first time in probably 15 years.
I still love it. The sense of creative freedom for problem solving is still unbeaten, the world is fascinating, the number of predications it made that came true is terrifying. The New York and Hong Kong hubs are so much fun to explore, and most of the missions are still incredibly fun to play. Its interesting after years of playing games in between how much more use I made of the environments and explosives.
It's not perfect though. The last quarter of the game sags as the open explorable cities get replaced by some fairly generic military bases. The ending is much more abrupt than I remember and whilst you have to at least work towards your chosen ending it would have been nice for your earlier choices to be more relevant. The game wasn't pretty at the time, and less so now, though does have a certain retro charm. And some of the voice acting is... woof..
That said, its still up there as one or the best of all time. No other immersive sim does hidden choice making so well, with so many hidden little consequences for how you've interacted with the world. It does a lot of things narratively that no game has come close to in 22 years. Amazing experience to go back to.

Mappyland (NES) via the Nintendo Switch Online service.
Beaten as in I finished the first loop in one go (when it goes to Round 5-1, it switches to the first story again where you collect pieces of cheese).
That game seems really pleasent at first but by the time you reach the fourth story, the game certainly ramps up in difficulty (though that may be due in part to the awkward trampoline controls). Disliked the fact that at one point you get a torch item and you are expected to keep it until the special area in the next round (i.e. you cannot get a game over)...otherwise, when you continue the platforms in the area are invisible and you have to do trial-and-error to see where you are supposed to go (and it had to be also in the worst round, the Jungle area with its moving trampolines). When that happened at first I thought the game glitched or something.
Otherwise, I don't know. I have more fun with Dig Dug II which is more challenging (due to having only three lives and no continues and, if I heard correctly, 72 levels to beat) while I could go through Mappyland very pleasently because it had unlimited continues after each game over so with patience I think anyone can beat this in an afternoon. We'll see if I come back to the second loop (the game actually has a stage select option where you can go up to Round 4-7), but for now I consider that game beaten and done for now.

ITS BEEN A MINUTE! With work starting back up and my sleep schedule readjusting the game time has gone way down.
Here we have a very solid but quite short budget Soulslike game. It didn’t reinvent any wheels, but we fun for what it was. Probably slightly below the really good Mortal Shell on the non/AAA Souls scale.
3.5 / 5

Looking back .., how in the world did I only beat 10 games in 2021? I’m guessing I spent a huge chunk of that year absolutely lost in Valhalla.

51. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
I wrapped up a ran last year but really probably been closer to two or three since I went all the way through it in short order, so felt pretty overdue playing it again. Really love this game to death, it's an excellent just pick up and play platformer that's very challenging but generally plays fair. Honestly primarily want Metroid Prime 4 to come out entirely so that Retro can stop making it and make another DKC.

52. Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc - School Mode
Sure, I'll count it, doesn't take a super long time to wrap up but it can certainly be a grind. Not really sure why I decided I wanted to play this mode again, since it is a pretty repetitive process that does overstay its welcome, but figured hey, why not, maybe I just was more in the mood for the 1 cast than I am for wrapping up 2 at the moment.
Kind of one of those things where I'd maybe recommend doing it once but not really again. Never have done the equivalent mode in 2, and if I do on this playthrough it's going to be after a substantial break; V3 greatly simplifying it to cut out the time management aspects was definitely the right call since it makes it much more compact.

53. Paper Mario
Found this particular runthrough to be a bit more of a chore than I usually do, probably a mix of the lag in spots in the Switch version and having also just done a run of it last year. Still a game I like a lot though, even if I do think it pales in comparison both to Super Mario RPG and to Thousand-Year Door. It's a solid in-between though and pretty much by default has the spot of the third best Mario RPG so hey, nothing to sneeze at.
Will say something I think is a big problem with the game though is there is soooo much side content with very little reason to ever bother with it. An accusation you can also level at TTYD to be fair, but at least there's a lot more room to completely break your build in that game through proper exploitation of things and there is the Pit of 100 Trials. 64 there's basically no reason to ever bother with the Li'l' Oinks or Koopa Koot or the radio contests or the minigames or.. Speaking of, the stat caps are waaaaay too low. It does take a lot of the fun out of it with how dreadfully low the badge stat caps out, really limits the potential to do crazy things with the engine like you can in the sequel.

Not really beat, but I finally have a good New Game+ file on LoZ OoT 3D. Essentially what I wanted was to be able to have as much of the extra stuff accomplished without making real progress in the game, meaning beating any dungeons, and avoiding going to the Deku Tree entirely. And I also don't get the sword.
A lot of requirements in order to get this right, but I had to master several glitches to get it just right. Starting the game with the Megaton hammer on B is just so much fun and helped me in a couple areas where I would otherwise have to deal with other glitches. Walking While Talking is an easy glitch to perform, but on the 3DS you can't see where you're going since there's no mini map. Navi Dive is tougher to do without a sword, but in this case I can't just stop and save my game to get it to work, so if I goofed up, I'd have to wait. Megaflip was probably the hardest one for me to do since I'm awful at aligning myself with where to go, plus getting the bomb bag without the slingshot is quite hard to do with some insane jumping.
I have done this a few times before, but was unaware that I could actually save my game and keep the Megaton hammer on the B button by going to the fishing hole and saving there while I have the rod.
So if I decided to "start a new game" I could select this file and be very prepared for my journey with many items. This includes;
Megaton Hammer on B Fairy Ocarina Deku Nuts with one upgrade Deku Sticks with both upgrades Boomerang Bombs with one upgrade 25 Bombchus 3 Bottles (with Milk, Bugs, and a Fairy) 1 Magic Bean (the other 9 are planted) Lens of Truth Bunny Hood Din's Fire Farore's Wind Gordon Bracelet Shard of Agony Silver Scale Giant's Wallet 20 Heart Pieces 40 Skulltula Tokens
I also lost my Shields since I want Link to appear in his house the same way he would when you would start a new game, so you'd need to get the Kokiri Sword and the Deku Shield.
There's still a few things I still might be able to do such as get Gerudo Membership as a child, as well as a few Skulltulas that may or may not be accessible. There's also several insane setups to get things like the Iron Boots and even the Hookshot, but I don't think it's worth the hassle, plus I don't know if anything might get corrupted since I'm doing all this stuff as Child Link. Only other thing I really want to do is cross the Wasteland to get Nayru's Love and to plant the final Bean/get last dirt Skulltula.

1942 (NES)
...OK, I only intended to test this game for about 30 minutes to see whether I would be interested in giving it my full effort later. Previously, during my first go at emulation when I only had a keyboard I tried it out and died on the first stage all the time. Then recently when I did my set-up for playing NES games, I tested it a few times and died again on the first stage. This time now I wanted to play it at least for 30 minutes....
...and I just beat it. I thought it was one of the "three lives, no continue, if you lose all lives, go back to the beginning" type of NES games but I guess since I never made it past the first stage, the "Continue" selection didn't appear (or did I collect a "Continue" item on the way by accident? I honestly cannot remember). So, when I gave it my full effort, I made it to about Stage 10 before I died and I learned that there was still a "Continue"...since I still had a bit of time, I ventured on and at the half-way point, I figured "What the heck, I play it until my [probably] limited continues run out", so I continued. After using about 2-3 additional continues I made it to the final stage, got a quick "Congratulations", a final percentage screen and back to the title menu....wow, kinda underwhelming to say the least.
Still, this is a fun game I thought although compared to other shmups, I guess the unlimited continues make it a bit too easy? I would have also liked for the final stage to have a different end boss rather than the stationary planes until then. And the "music" is annoying too ("BEE-BEE-BEE-BE-BEEEEEEEP!").
Nevertheless, I am happy to have unexpectedly beaten this game and I definitely enjoyed it.
