I was in the house for both the 14th anniversary show and the TV taping the day after. The PPV was great, and the Hangman & Bucks match holds up incredibly well.
I remember the day after the 14th PPV reading online while waiting in line for the famous Caesar's Palace buffet that fans were critiquing how quiet the crowd was that first night. Having been there and hearing how rocking it was, this was the first time I first-hand realized how important properly micing the crowd was at a wrestling event.
The TV tapings were a very disjointed affair. Like, I'd been to ROH TV tapings prior to that, and those always felt like binge watching a show whereas this one was bits and pieces without much story of what else was going on. I remember the Motor City Machine Guns being referred to strictly as *just* "the Machine Guns" the whole night. I also recall the Truth Martini injury angle being played a little too serious for comfort, we all thought the injury was real and they spent a *long* time convincingly getting him out of the ring after. I think this lead to some timing issues too as the show ran much later than advertised. I had to leave after ACH-Omega as it was my first time in Vegas and I had another event to catch, but seeing the Castle-Young match when it aired was a super-satisfying feud ender. The rise of Dalton Castle was so perfect. I'd put him in the ROH Hall of Fame.
Also, the crowd for this show was VERY different from the PPV show (which sold out significantly quicker) in that a sizable amount seemed to be New Japan fans there for the New Japan talent who didn't follow ROH at the time and were pretty rude toward anything they didn't recognize.

Today in Ring of Honor History: February 28 - 2009: Ring of Honor held the first HDNet taping in Philadelphia, PA. Their first nationally televised show, the episodes were basically an introduction to the promotion and featured very little story progression. Bryan Danielson faced his longtime rival Austin Aries; Tyler Black faced Jimmy Jacobs to continue their feud; Kevin Steen faced Eddie Edwards to continue the feud between Steen & El Generico vs. The American Wolves; and Jay Briscoe wrestled a non-title match against ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness in what was basically a repeat of their match at "Motor City Madness 2009". The rest were pretty much exhibition matches between ROH regulars and guys like Sami Callihan and Up in Smoke, who would become jobbers on HDNet. After losing all his money and being repeatedly dragged out ROH shows by security, the great Prince Nana was back in da money, and officially back in ROH. Wanting to up the production value, HDNet not only brought in their own cameras and lighting for the show, they also brought in their own commentator: Mike "Slap the Porpoise" Hogewood. - 2020: ROH held "Bound by Honor 2020" in Nashville, TN. ROH World Television Champion Dragon Lee looked to gain more gold when he challenged PCO for the ROH World Championship. After becoming the number one contender's the night after "Final Battle 2019", 2 Guys 1 Tag received their shot at the ROH World Tag Team Championship, challenging Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham. The feud between Villain Enterprises and La Facción Ingobernable heated up when Brody King and Flip Gordon took on Rush and Kenny King. The Briscoes faced ROH's new big man tag team, Jeff Cobb and Dan Maff (making it the first time the Briscoes and Maff had wrestled each other since 2004). And Eli Isom tried to get Bully Ray out of ROH for good.

Today in Ring of Honor History: February 29 - 2020: Ring of Honor held "Gateway to Honor 2020" in St. Charles, MO. The show turned out to be their last show before shutting down for the COVID pandemic, and as such was the last appearance of several wrestlers: Alex Shelley, Bully Ray, Dan Maff, Jeff Cobb, Mark Haskins, recently debuted wrestlers Slex and Session Moth Martina as well as Righteous member Chuckles, and head booker Marty Scurll. In the main event, Rush defeated PCO and Mark Haskins in a Three-Way match to reclaim the ROH World Championship. Dak Draper challenged Dragon Lee for the ROH World Television Championship. MexiSquad members and two-thirds of the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions Bandido and Rey Horus faced ROH World Tag Team Champions Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham in a Proving Ground match. Brian Milonis thought he found love in Session Moth Martina, but sadly that did not turn out to be (in more ways than one). And despite both being staples of independent for nearly twenty years, Alex Shelley and Dan Maff wrestled what was actually their first singles match against each other (and second match total).

Today in Ring of Honor History: March 1 - 2009: Ring of Honor held their second night of HDNet tapings in Philadelphia, PA. Bryan Danielson and Tyler Black wrestled the first in their trilogy of matches on HDNet. Brent Albright faced Claudio Castagnoli while Kevin Steen and Jay Briscoe faced Chris Hero and Eddie Edwards in rematches from "Eliminating the Competition", held two nights before. Austin Aries took on fresh-faced Canadian wrestler Kenny Omega in their first ROH match. Necro Butcher and Jimmy Jacobs fought in a match where attempted murder is complete fine, but interference is a big no-no. Eddie Kingston made his return, kicking off his first-ish run in ROH (depends on if you consider his two previous one-off matches a "run"). Humbled by his recent stint of poverty, Prince Nana took pity on homeless wrestler Ernie Osiris. And Bobby Dempsey squashed a young Orange Cassidy, who still actually cared at the time. Unfortunately, one of the most memorable aspects of the taping was sadly Larry Sweeney. Before each match, ROH aired a "Smacktalk" from each wrestler, which was basically just a quick generic promo for their match. During the "Smacktalk" for Sara Del Rey & Sassy Stephie's match, Sweeney's personal issues were becoming very apparent. After sniffing Del Rey's shoulders and laughing nonstop through her promo, he began rubbing up against Stephie and grabbing her, which she was visibly not comfortable with. It was a far cry from his usual self at "Caged Rage", which was only one month prior [1/31/09]. - 2015: ROH held the "13th Anniversary" in Las Vegas, NV. Almost eight years to the day when he was forced to leave by TNA, Samoa Joe made his return to Ring of Honor. Also making his return was Raymond Rowe, who had been out with several injuries after a motorcycle accident in August. In the main event Jay Briscoe defended the ROH World Championship against Rowe's tag team partner Hanson, Michael Elgin, and Tommaso Ciampa. Former WWE wrestler Alberto El Patron finally received his title shot against Jay Lethal for the ROH World Television Championship. Then UFC fighter and future WWE wrestler Shayna Baszler accompanied reDRagon in their ROH World Tag Team Championship defense against frequent rivals The Young Bucks. AJ Styles faced ACH in their only singles match. Roderick Strong took on his former Decade teammate BJ Whitmer in a grudge match. And after his usual partner was unable show to due to travel issues, Karl Anderson taught everyone a valuable lesson when he decided to team up with his old friend (beer) to faced The Addiction and The Kingdom in a Three-Way Tag Team match.

Today in Ring of Honor History: March 2 - 2006: Ring of Honor uploaded the first ROH VideoWire (then called the "ROH Video Recap"), their original YouTube recap series which would continue on over the years with the likes of the HonorRoll and Week by Week. - 2013: ROH held the "11th Anniversary" in Chicago Ridge, IL. In the main event, Kevin Steen, a founding member of S.C.U.M., defended the ROH World Championship against Jay Lethal. Following that match, S.C.U.M. saw their numbers doubled when Steen, Jimmy Jacobs, Steve Corino and Rhino were joined by Matt Hardy, Rhett Titus, the debut Cliff Compton, and the returning Jimmy Rave. Now one of the largest factions in ROH history, S.C.U.M. immediately took out pretty much the entire locker room before declaring war on Ring of Honor. Meanwhile, reDRagon established their tag team dominance by defeating The Briscoes to win their first ROH World Tag Team Championship. Over the next two years, reDRagon would hold the titles for a total of 672 days over three reigns. The Briscoes, on the other hand, would enter a tag title slump and have to wait five years before getting their beloved belts back. 2013 Top Prospect winner Matt Taven beat Adam Cole to win the ROH World Television Championship, the first of many titles he'd go on to hold in Ring of Honor. Two feuds came to a close when Michael Elgin took on Roderick Strong in a Two out of Three Falls match, and BJ Whitmer faced Charlie Haas in a No Holds Barred match. And Rocky Romero and Alex Koslov made their returns, facing The American Wolves. - 2021: On Week by Week, Dak Draper took on Joe Keys in a Pure Rules match.

Another note about that 11th anniversary show - Bobby Fish pinning Jay Briscoe would be the last time Jay was pinned for two years, kicking off his un-pinned streak.
What I remember most about this show was how well received all the SCUM additions was. Even the most hardened ROH skeptic at the time were intrigued with the particular additions. While the eventual lackluster ROH/SCUM blowoff kind of put a damper on the feud, this moment really kicked off a few hot compelling months of it.

Today in Ring of Honor History: March 3 - 2007: Ring of Honor returned across the pond for "Fifth Year Festival: Liverpool" in Liverpool, England. The "Samoa Joe Farewell Tour" saw Samoa Joe kicked off his final weekend by taking on ROH's resident Brit and Pro Wrestling NOAH supporter Nigel McGuinness. After a year of struggle, The Briscoes' highly sought third reign as ROH World Tag Team Champions came to an end after less than a week in a shocking loss to Dragon Gate's Naruki Doi and Shingo. With NOAH's Takeshi Morishima as ROH World Champion, all of ROH's titles were held by Japanese wrestlers [sparking jokes/accusations that Gabe Sapolsky had a Japanese fetish, which contributed to a backlash online against Morishima that would last for the rest of his reign]. Luckily ROH had its sister promotion to fall back on, with Roderick Strong defeated PAC to make the FIP Heavyweight Championship a world title. Jimmy Jacobs recruited Jimmy Rave to help in a grudge match against BJ Whitmer and Colt Cabana [less than a week after Cabana and Jacobs ended their feud; if there is a criticism of Gabe Sapolsky to be had, it's that for some reason he continually felt the need to do an encore after a feud had a good ending]. Longtime rivals Delirious and Matt Sydal faced off in a Two out of Three Falls match, which saw Sydal graduate from being slightly cocky to an outright dick. And Allison Danger and Sara Del Rey tried to bring women's wrestling back the UK, which irked some of the locals who thought it was already there. - 2012: ROH held a television taping in Baltimore, MD. With ROH's "Showdown in the Sun" double-shot pay-per-views taking place midway through when the episodes aired ["Day #1" - 3/30/12; "Day #2" - 3/31/12], to not give anything away most of the episodes were built around the "March Mayhem" tournament. Eight wrestlers put up a $1,500 entrance fee, with ROH matching it and adding $12,000; after four qualifying singles matches, the final participants would compete in a Four-Way Elimination match, with the winner receiving the $24,000 pot. Tommaso Ciampa would win the money for The Embassy, with Adam Cole, Eddie Edwards, Jay Lethal, Kyle O'Reilly, Michael Elgin, Mike Bennett and Roderick Strong also participating. Throughout the night, Kevin Steen repeatedly tried to get a shot at the ROH World Championship, bringing out Davey Richards for a heated confrontation. Caprice Coleman and Cedric Alexander beat Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team, setting up a rematch at "Showdown in the Sun: Day #1". And Mike Mondo faced Matt Taven in a match stemming from the February 18 episode of Ring of Honor Wrestling [taped 2/4/12]. Following their $5000 Challenge match against The House of Truth on the February 11 episode [taped 1/7/12], The Briscoes stole the check written by Truth Martini. When Martini cancelled the check, Jay warned him they had plans for that money for their chicken farm, so if he don't pay up by the time ROH returned to Baltimore, Papa Briscoe would show up to beat it out of his ass. In a match taped exclusively for ROH's Ringside Membership, Big Man made good on his word, teaming with dem boys to beat Martini and HOT in a Six-Man Tag Team match. - 2013: ROH closed out their weekend in Chicago Ridge, IL with a television taping. With the "11th Anniversary" done, ROH began building towards their next pay-per-view, the WrestleMania weekend show "Supercard of Honor VII" [4/5/13]. Jay Briscoe was named the number one contender against ROH World Champion Kevin Steen, Adam Cole faced Matt Hardy to determine the first challenger for new ROH World Television Champion Matt Taven, and Charlie Haas started a build towards his match with Shelton Benjamin that ultimately wouldn't happen. Most of the attention of the show was dedicated to S.C.U.M., who became the dominate force in ROH the night before. ROH Matchmaker Nigel McGuinness tried to rectify that, rallying the troops to go to war with them. Answering the call were The Briscoes, BJ Whitmer, Jay Lethal, Michael Elgin, and the returning Mike Mondo, who'd been out of action since October with a broken leg. However, McGuinness may not have been the strongest leader, as he gave into SCUM's terroristic threats for their own episode of television. Meanwhile, reDRagon defended the ROH World Tag Team Championship against the Forever Hooligans. ACH and Tadarius Thomas pulled double duty in their first night as a tag team, taking on The American Wolves and Adam Page and Mike Sydal. And Hoopla Hottie Scarlett Bordeaux made her in-ring debut in a Four Corner Survival match against the undefeated MsChif, Athena (Ember Moon) and Cherry Bomb (The Bunny). - 2018: ROH held "Manhattan Mayhem VII" in New York, NY. To add to the show, Ring of Honor brought back "The Experience", which was basically their version of "Cyber Sunday" with fans voting on matches and show content. However, due to weather-related travel issues, a number of wrestlers were unable to attend the show, causing several changes to the card. The main event saw Bullet Club take on Shane Taylor and The Kingdom (replacing SoCal Uncensored) in an Ultimate Mayhem match. CMLL's Ultimo Guerrero and Volador, Jr. made successful appearances in a tag team match involving ROH World Champion Dalton Castle and his upcoming challenger Jay Lethal. El Soberano, Jr., on the other hand…not so much. Flip Gordon faced Cody in a match to prove he deserved to be "All In", but the milk-first flat earther dropped the ball. And Kenny King was left in the fans hands as they got to choose a team to help him take on Silas Young, Beer City Bruiser and Brian Milonas in a Six-Man Tag Team match. The fans wanted Best Friends, but with Baretta knocking on heaven's door with a torn bicep and pectoral after a match against his BF in PWG, fans were treated to the new team of Chuckie Cheese ( Chuck Taylor and Cheeseburger). - 2021: ROH streamed a YouTube exclusive match between ROH World Television Champion Dragon Lee and Brian Johnson.

Today in Ring of Honor History: March 4 - 2004: In one of the most damaging days in ROH history, RF Video founder Rob Feinstein announced he was stepping down as the owner of Ring of Honor. The night before, NBC 10 (WCAU - Philadelphia) aired a news story featuring a sting operation conducted by Perverted-Justice.com where adults went to a house to have sex with minors. Feinstein was one of the individuals caught in the sting, going to meet who he thought was a 14-year-old boy (which he infamously wrote he'd pretend he said 18), only to run away when he saw a grown man and a pair of news cameras. The incident came at a bad time for ROH, with shows being stagnant and fans growing frustrated with the long delays of DVD releases. Feinstein eventually sold his stake in ROH to Doug Gentry, who then turned around and sold it to Cary Silkin. However that alone could not undo the damage Feinstein caused, and in the fallout ROH lost several of its main event wrestlers when TNA pulled all of their contracted talent (with the exception of CM Punk, who was the lone wrestler to choose ROH over TNA). --- PWInsider report/editorial following the news: www.pwinsider.com/ViewArticle.php?id=973--- Mike Johnson's interview with Gabe Sapolsky: www.pwinsider.com/ViewArticle.php?id=999&p=1--- Statements from Christopher Daniels, CM Punk and Doug Gentry: www.pwinsider.com/ViewArticle.php?id=7317&p=7--- Statement from Dan Maff and summer of statement from Samoa Joe: www.pwinsider.com/ViewArticle.php?id=7317&p=9- 2007: ROH closed out their six-show anniversary tour with "Fifth Year Festival: Finale" in Liverpool, England. Samoa Joe, longest reigning ROH World Champion in history and the face of ROH since 2003, wrestled his farewell match against his frequent rival and close friend Homicide. Nigel McGuinness and Jimmy Rave ended their three month feud in a Fight Without Honor that saw Rave taken out of action for several weeks with a broken jaw, and McGuinness getting a new name for his lariat. Continuing their feud were BJ Whitmer and Jimmy Jacobs, who faced off in a bloody Falls Count Anywhere match. Naruki Doi and Shingo did what The Briscoes failed to do the night before and successfully made their first defense of the ROH World Tag Team Championship, defeating the No Remorse Corps. Dem boys had to settle for beating the crap out of each other in an attempt to man up. Matt Sydal took on PAC in a first time ever match. And Colt Cabana and Delirious wrestled a match as only they could. - 2012: ROH held "10th Anniversary: Young Wolves Rising" in New York, NY. Former partners collided in the main event as Davey Richards and Kyle O'Reilly faced Eddie Edwards and Adam Cole. The Briscoes defended the ROH World Tag Team Championship against The Young Bucks, and Jay Lethal defended the ROH World Television Championship against the undefeated Tommaso Ciampa. Jimmy Jacobs reverted to his old, evil ways in a No Disqualification match against Kevin Steen, who was a busy boy that night. In addition to his match, Steen found the time to crap all over the main event match and start a feud with CHIKARA Grand Champion Eddie Kingston, who came to help promote an upcoming ROH/CHIKARA double-shot. The feud between Steen and Kingston would occasionally pop up in ROH, but mostly took place in CHIKARA. Homicide made his return after six months, taking on Mike Bennett. The Notorious 187 wasn't the only ROH Founding Father to make an appearance, as Amazing Red made his return after eight years to team with TJ Perkins to face The House of Truth. - 2017: ROH held "Manhattan Mayhem VI" in New York, NY. Following his infamous disaster of an appearance at the inaugural "Death Before Dishonor" in 2003, in a moment that for years no one would have predicted, Jeff Hardy not only returned to ROH, he became a champion when teamed with his brother Matt Hardy to beat The Young Bucks for the ROH World Tag Team Championship. Keeping the surprises rolling, Bully Ray made his debut later in the night, announcing he was now in ROH full time. Bobby Fish challenged Adam Cole for the ROH World Championship, while Sonjay Dutt, last seen in ROH in 2013, made his return to challenge Marty Scurll for the ROH World Television Championship in his final appearance. Matt Taven won a Battle Royal to win a future title shot for the ROH World Championship. Will Ospreay and Dragon Lee defied expectations by abandoning their tradition slow, technical mat wrestling for a faster paced, high flying type of match. Dalton Castle faced Colt Cabana in a grudge match to end their feud. And Josh Woods and John Skyler advance to the finals of the 2017 Top Prospect Tournament.

Today in Ring of Honor History: March 5 - 2005: Ring of Honor held "Trios Tournament 2005" in a Philadelphia, PA. Eight trios competed in a one night tournament, with the reward for the members of the winning team being they can book any one match they want in Ring of Honor. The Rottweiler proved to be the dominate faction, with Homicide pinning ROH World Champion Austin Aries to beat Generation Next in the finals. The other participants: The Embassy -- Second City Saints & Steve Corino -- Samoa Joe, Bryan Danielson & Vordell Walker -- Spanky, James Gibson & Nigel McGuinness -- The Ring Crew Express & El Generico (in his main show debut) -- ROH students Davey Andrews, Shane Hagadorn & Anthony Franco. The tournament saw some storyline progressions, as CM Punk & Jimmy Rave and Danielson & Homicide met in tournament matches to continue their respective feuds. Jay Lethal defeated John Walters to win his first of many titles in Ring of Honor, the ROH Pure Championship. It wasn't all sunshine and rainbows for Lethal, though, as earlier in the night he was attacked by an unknown assailant. The title match also brought an end to Walters' two year run in ROH, though he would make a one-off appearance in 2006 and a handful more in 2020 and 2021. Kevin Steen made his main show debut in a Six Man Mayhem match against B-Boy and the warring halves of Special K. After quitting at "Final Battle 2004" [12/26/04], Trent Acid made his final appearance when he tried to hijack the show, leading to a brief fight with Spanky in an angle that led to nothing. And Dave Prazak, having previously appeared as a backstage interviewer and occasion ring announcer, made his debut as a commentator, a position he would hold until 2011. - 2010: ROH returned to Philadelphia, PA for another HDNet taping. Eddie Edwards won the tournament to became the first ROH World Television Champion, beating Kevin Steen in the semifinals, followed by his American Wolves tag team partner Dave Richards in the finals. Tyler Black made his first appearance as the new ROH World Champion, which thanks to the tape delay had a little timey wimey issue. Austin Aries began what was the last feud of his ROH career when he tried to permanently injure Delirious' throat. After last being seen in need of medical attention following a spiked piledriver from Rhett Titus and Kenny King in August, Jerry Lynn made his return to HDNet. Also making his HDNet return was Necro Butcher, who not only was reinstated from his suspension [1/9/10], but from now on would have all his matches conducted under his own "Butcher's Rules". And making their television debuts were longtime ROH veteran Ricky Reyes, and future powerhouse faction The House of Truth (which weirdly only had the two most forgotten HOT wrestlers, founding members Christian Able and Josh Raymond. Not even Truth Martini was there for HOT's TV debut). - 2021: ROH's latest television episode from Baltimore, MD saw Jay Lethal beat EC3, Jay Briscoe and Matt Taven in a Four Corner Survival match to become the number one contender for the ROH World Championship, while Dalton Castle and Josh Woods met in a rematch of their Pure Rules match from January.

Today in Ring of Honor History: March 6 - 2010: Ring of Honor finished their second night of HDNet tapings in Philadelphia, PA. Due to the long amount of delay between the taping of the episodes and when they aired [the last one being three months after it was recorded], the episodes are a continuity nightmare. ROH World Tag Team Champions The Briscoes beat the Dark City Fight Club in a non-title match to become the number one contender for the ROH World Tag Team Championship (as it aired after the Briscoes lost the belts). Austin Aries, one episode removed from losing his spot in the Pick 6, won a Battle Royal to enter the Pick 6 Contender Series…for the very first time. In another Pick 6 match, Roderick Strong beat Kevin Steen to simultaneously win and retain the #1 spot. Eddie Edwards made his first defense of the ROH World Television Champion, taking on Colt Cabana. Shawn Daivari joined The Embassy, and quickly inserted himself into the neverending feud with Necro Butcher. Tyler Black and Austin Aries wrestled their last ever singles match against each other, while former ECW rivals Jerry Lynn and Steve Corino wrestled their only singles match against each other in the ECW Arena.

Today in Ring of Honor History: March 7 - 2014: Ring of Honor held "Raising the Bar: Night #1" in Milwaukee, WI. Matt Taven revived his first shot at the ROH World Championship, challenging Adam Cole in a match stemming from the fact Taven won all of the matches in their 2013 rivalry for the ROH World Television Championship. Fans were treated to a little PWG flavor, when Kevin Steen and The Young Bucks teamed together for the only time in ROH to faced The Briscoes and Michael Elgin in a Six-Man Tag Team match. Adrenaline RUSH challenged reDRagon for the ROH World Tag Team Championship after winning a Proving Ground: Instant Reward match that also involved Outlaw, Inc. Longtime staples Chris Hero and Roderick Strong wrestled each other for the last time in Ring of Honor. Adam Page became the new young boy for The Decade. And Truth Martini seemed to show an interest in Jay Lethal. - 2015: ROH returned to Baltimore, MD for a television taping. Future ROH Hall of Famer Samoa Joe wrestled his first Ring of Honor match in over six years, taking on ROH World Tag Team Champion Kyle O'Reilly. Jimmy Jacobs, who had been in ROH for over ten years, received his fifth and final shot at the ROH World Championship, challenging Jay Briscoe. AJ Styles and Mark Briscoe wrestled their only singles match against each other. With Raymond Rowe back after recovering from his motorcycle accident, War Machine wrestled their first tag team in seven months. 2014 Top Prospect Tournament winner Donovan Dijak forfeited his title shot against ROH World Television Champion Jay Lethal to join The House of Truth instead. However, Lethal didn't get the night off like he hoped, as the breakout star of the tournament, Dalton Castle, ended up issuing his own challenge. Exactly one year after becoming The Decade's young boy, Adam Page graduated when BJ Whitmer selected Steve Corino's son Colby Corino to become their new young boy. The KRD made their presence felt, both on screen and behind the scenes. And the loveable goofball tag team Brutal Burgers came to an end when Brutal Bob Evans turned on Cheeseburger, starting a feud that would last until the end of the year.

Today in Ring of Honor History: March 8 - 2014: Ring of Honor held "Raising the Bar: Night #2" in Chicago Ridge, IL. After two previously unsuccessful runs in ROH, The Young Bucks beat reDRagon to win the ROH World Tag Team Championship for the first time. It was a shocking victory, as the Bucks hadn't competed regularly in Ring of Honor for over a year and a half, on top of which, Matt Jackson was competing with a broken freakin' hand. In addition to winning the titles, the Bucks started a rivalry with reDRagon that literally continues to this day. Adam Cole defended the ROH World Championship against Chris Hero in the returning Ringmaster's Challenge match. The Briscoes took on Outlaw, Inc. in a No DQ brawl. Michael Elgin faced his trainer Tyson Dux. And Jimmy Jacobs proved himself to be a fortuneteller.

Today in Ring of Honor History: March 9 - 2018: Ring of Honor presented the "16th Anniversary", which for the fourth year in a row was held in to Las Vegas, NV. The show saw two title changes, and two huge surprise appearances. Despite how some choose to portray it, The Briscoes were not constantly the ROH World Tag Team Champions during their twenty year ROH careers, as they went through numerous lengthy periods without their precious belts. The longest span was five years, and it came to an end this night when Dem Boys beat the Motor City Machine Guns to become the champions for the ninth time. After pissing off COO Joe Koff, SoCal Uncensored (SCU!) knew their heads were on the chopping block at the end of the year unless they held some championship. At the "16th Anniversary", they accomplished that goat when they beat The Young Bucks and Adam Page in a Street fight to win the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship. Sadly, they couldn't hold on to them for very long, and a year later were stuck working for some upstart t-shirt company in Florida or something like that. In the main even, Dalton Castle successfully retained the ROH World Champion against Jay Lethal. Kenny King also made a successful defense, beating his hated rival Silas Young to retain the ROH World Television Championship. Following the match, Austin Aries returned after nearly three years to tell his former protégé that he wants to add the TV title to his growing championship collection. Cody, accompanied as always by his wife and Bury the Drug-Free Bear, defeated Matt Taven in a grudge match to reclaim his stolen Ring of Honor. Cody's celebration was short lived, however, as the happy Bury the Drug-Free Bear turned out to be an angry Kenny "The Leader of the Bullet Club" Omega. Marty Scurll beat Punishment Martinez to become the number one contender for the ROH World Championship, and Flip Gordon took on New Japan's Hiromu Takahashi. Before the pay-per-view, ROH held two matches in the WOH World Championship Tournament: a first round match between Sumie Sakai and the late Hana Kimura, and the quarterfinal match between Brandi Rhodes and Tenille Dashwood- 2021: On Week by Week in Baltimore, MD, former LifeBlood partners Bandido and Tracy Williams faced off in a Three-Way Elimination match with LSG.

When I revisited this show last December, the Kenny reveal beneath the bear still gave me goosebumps. Absolutely amazing moment. Cody-Kenny was like the last great feud ROH had until the pandemic era.
Also, Austin Aries was really a shell of a shell of a shell of a half-ass of his former self here. He didn't even quarter ass, more like 1/6th-assed his feud with Kenny King and quest for the TV belt. His return here sounded like such a cool concept on paper, but then when you saw it you just felt bad for everyone who had to work with him.

Today in Ring of Honor History: March 10 - 2017: Ring of Honor returned to Las Vegas, NV for the "15th Anniversary". In what is easily one of the most emotional title changes in ROH history (if not the most emotional), Ring of Honor founding father Christopher Daniels beat Adam Cole to finally become ROH World Champion. The defection of his best friend Frankie Kazarian to the Bullet Club [2/11/17] proved to be a ruse, as he helped Daniels win by prevented Cole from cheating. To make an already emotional moment even more special, after winning, Cary Silkin presented Daniels with the original ROH World Championship belt. Meanwhile, The Hardy Boyz made their first defense of the ROH World Tag Team Championship, facing The Young Bucks and Roppongi Vice in a Street Fight. RPG Vice were in the match as they were originally scheduled to challenge for the belts in a singles match, then the Bucks lost to the Hardys. Bully Ray wrestled his first ROH match, teaming with The Briscoes to face War Machine and Davey Boy Smith Jr. Marty Scurll retained the ROH World Television Championship against a frustrated Lio Rush, Jay Lethal beat Bobby Fish to become the number one contender for the ROH World Championship, and Jay White faced Kenny King to continue the feud between Search & Destroy and The Rebellion. Unfortunately, the show was not all sunshine and rainbows. During the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship match between The Kingdom and their challengers Dalton Castle and The Boys, TK O'Ryan broke his leg doing a dive to the floor, which would put him on the sidelines until August. - 2018: Ring of Honor closed out their weekend in Las Vegas, NV with a television taping. With the "16th Anniversary" out of the way, ROH focused on building up their next big show, "Supercard of Honor XII" [4/7/18]. ROH World Tag Team Champions The Briscoes beat ROH World Champion Dalton Castle and ROH World Television Champion Kenny King in a Champions' Challenge match. The Young Bucks became number one contenders for the ROH World Tag Team Championship after winning a gauntlet match involving Coast 2 Coast, The Dawgs, The Kingdom, Motor City Machine Guns and Beer City Bruiser and Brian Milonas. Jay Lethal took on Caprice Coleman after being insulted on "Coleman's Pulpit". Bullet Club's Cody, The Kingdom's Matt Taven, and SoCal Uncensored's Christopher Daniels faced off in a Three-Way match. It was a busy night for Cody, as he found time to get into a little fisticuffs with Kenny Omega about who really is the leader of the Bullet Club (and who does Brandi Rhodes really want more). Also, after Bury the Drug-Free Bear turned out to be Omega in disguise, Cody upgraded and got one of the greatest cornermen in wrestling history: Burnard the Business Bear (who managed to go the whole night without being hit once). New Japan's Hiromu Takahashi took on his former teammate Frankie Kazarian. Shane Taylor and Punishment Martinez met in a battle of the big men. Kelly Klein, Mayu Iwatani and Sumie Sakai all advanced in the WOH World Championship Tournament. And Japanese comedic wrestler Kikutaro made his final Ring of Honor appearance.

I personally really like the belt they gave to Tyler Black during his reign. The one with the big eagle, don't know if it has a nickname.

Today in Ring of Honor History: March 11 - 2006: Ring of Honor returned to Philadelphia, PA for "Arena Warfare". After four years and numerous shows in Philly, ROH finally ran the city's most famous wrestling venue, the ECW arena. Since December 2001 it had been the home of Combat Zone Wrestling, and the event was a double-shot between the two promotions, with CZW holding a show after ROH's. The end result was one of the most memorable in the ROH/CZW feud, as the ROH show ended with the CZW locker room running ROH out of the building before publicly torturing BJ Whitmer in the ring. Of all the CZW wrestlers involved in the mayhem, the most notable was Super Dragon, who became one of the main players in the feud. To pay tribute to the history of ECW, the main event was a Three-Way Dance between Christopher Daniels, Colt Cabana and Samoa Joe. After winning the 2006 Trios Tournament [1/27/06], Alex Shelley (who woke up on the wrong side of the bed) finally got his shot against Bryan Danielson for the ROH World Championship. Austin Aries took on his Generation Next stablemate Matt Sydal. After an abrupt end to their feud in 2004, the newly returned Briscoes faced off with The Rottweilers in a Four-Way Tag Team Scramble match to determine the number one contenders for the ROH Tag Team Championship. And Irish Airborne (Dave and Jake Crist) made their debut and scored the biggest victory of their ROH career by defeated former ROH Tag Team Champions Tony Mamaluke and Sal Rinauro, in what was Mamaluke's final match. At Combat Zone Wrestling's "When 2 Worlds Collide", ROH's Generation Next faced CZW's BLK OUT and Necro Butcher in a Six-Man Tag Team Match. Meanwhile, former part-time ROH wrestler and reigning CZW Iron Man Champion Kevin Steen showed where his loyalties were when he publicly begged Ring of Honor to take him back. - 2017: ROH closed out the weekend with a television taping in Las Vegas, NV. After the loss of the ROH World Championship, Bullet Club was not fine, and Adam Cole tried to fire The Young Bucks following a screwup in a Six-Man Tag Team match against The Addiction and Dalton Castle. The Hardy Boys defended the ROH World Tag Team Championship against The Briscoes in a dream match. Though unsuccessful in that attempt, Dem Boys did win gold later in the night when they teamed with Bully Ray to defeat The Kingdom and Silas Young (substituting for an injured TK O'Ryan) to win the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship. Marty Scurll defended the ROH World Television Championship against hometown heel Kenny King. Rowe faced Davey Boy Smith Jr. in a match following their dustup at the "15th Anniversary" the night before. Search and Destroy's Chris Sabin faced Rebellion leader Caprice Coleman. And fans were treated to a mystery "Wild Card" Eight-Man Tag Team match.

I went to the ROH/CZW double header and it was one of the craziest things I've ever seen. A bunch of us followed the guys brawling out of the arena, until we heard Wifebeater's weed whacker and all ran back inside. It was pure chaos and awesome!
