Today in Ring of Honor History: October 9 - 2009: Ring of Honor held "Clash of the Contenders" in Collinsville, IL. The show was named after Kenny Omega and ROH World Tag Team Champion Davey Richards, two of the top contenders for the ROH World Championship who faced off against each other for the first time in Ring of Honor. Despite being the namesake of the show, their match was not the main event. That spot went to Austin Aries defending the ROH World Championship against a hometown hero. Aries hoped to make things easy that night by rigging the "A Double L Double" (Austin Aries Lucky Lottery) to have him face Daizee Haze, but Jim Cornette put the kibosh on those plans, using his authority as the new ROH on HDNet Executive Producer to order Aries to defend the title against Delirious instead. Having exhausted his chances to win the ROH World Tag Team Championship, a dejected Kevin Steen's attempts to rebound came up short when a relaxed pin attempt cost him a match against Roderick Strong. Rhett Titus and Kenny King evened the score with The Young Bucks by defeating them in a rematch from "Manhattan Mayhem III" [6/13/09]. Tyler Black squared off against Chris Hero, The Briscoes took on The House of Truth, SHIMMER Champion MsChif faced SHIMMER Tag Team Champion Nicole Matthews in a showcase match, and Ace Steel wrestle his final match in Ring of Honor, competing in a Four Corner Survival with Claudio Castagnoli, Petey Williams, and his longtime friend and fellow Second City Saint Colt Cabana. - 2014: ROH held "ROH Unauthorized: Michael Bennett's Bachelor Party - Hosted by Adam Cole" in Chicago, IL. As with the first Unauthorized a year before ["A Night of Hoopla" - 7/11/13], the show as a lighthearted affair held for fun instead of advancing storylines. Host Adam Cole (who booked the show), bachelor Michael Bennett (who was marrying Maria Kanellis the next day) and fellow Kingdom member Matt Taven (who is Matt Taven) enjoyed the show for the most part, exchanging a few gifts, having a couple lap dances, and drinking a ton of alcohol. However, it backfired at the end of the night when their liquid courage got their drunk asses in a Six-Man Tag Team match with The Briscoes and the returning Rhino (in what would be his final Ring of Honor appearance). The Kingdom was having a such a good time that night that they even added an honorary fourth member, Cheeseburger, who nearly drank his weight in vodka, Jack Daniels and beer. Unfortunately, Cheeseburger's tenure in The Kingdom was short lived thanks to Mad Man Pondo, who was brought in as a surprise by Cole due to being Bennett's second favorite wrestler, showing more interest in Cheeseburger than Bennett. As punishment for that, The Kingdom ordered a drunk Cheeseburger to face Tommaso Ciampa. When the match ended shorter than expected due to Pondo accidently knocking out Cheeseburger with a Stop sign (he was aiming for Ciampa), Delirious made a surprise appearance to face Ciampa instead. While several of the wrestlers seemed to be having a good time that night, one person who didn't was Mark Briscoe, who was not allowed to drink all night due to losing a singles match to dude bro Roderick Strong (though being sober did end up helping him in the impromptu main event). Mark actually got to be in three bouts that night, as he ending the show by perfectly playing an idiot and fighting with a confetti cannon he couldn't get to work. ACH and Cedric Alexander, who were proclaimed "the biggest buzzkills in Ring of Honor" by Jimmy Jacobs, faced each other in what was considered the best match of the night, with Michael Bennett personally awarding them five stars (which they did not accept). Veda Scott teamed with Heather Patera and Leah Von Dutch in a Six-Woman Tag Team match against Taeler Hendrix, Scarlett Bordeaux and the debuting Crazy Mary Dobson. And wrestler-turned-manager Truth Martini dabbled in some Juventud Guerrera cosplay to team with ROH World Television Champion Jay Lethal against ROH World Tag Team Champions reDRagon, and he was so fired up to be back in the ring he repeatedly attacked his own partner without realizing it. - 2020: ROH aired their latest episode of television from Baltimore, MD. The ROH Pure Championship Tournament kicked off the quarter finals with ROH World Tag Team Champion Jay Lethal taking on David Finlay, and his tag team partner Jonathan Gresham facing Matt Sydal in what is, to date, Sydal's final match in Ring of Honor. - 2021: Jonathan Gresham headed across the pond to face Chris Ridgeway in a Pure Rules match at Wrestle Carnival's "PURE" in Nottingham, England. The match would later be featured on Ring of Honor's Week by Week [Ep. #75 - aired 10/26/21].

Today in Ring of Honor History: October 10 - 2009: Ring of Honor held "Survival of the Fittest 2009" in Indianapolis, IN. After beating Kenny King in the first round, Tyler Black, in a controversial finish, outlasted 2005 winner Roderick Strong, 2006 winner Delirious, 2007 winner Chris Hero, Claudio Castagnoli and Colt Cabana to win the fifth Survival of the Fittest tournament. Other participants included Kenny Omega, Kevin Steen, Petey Williams and Rhett Titus. Delirious made history in the tournament, as due to his performance challenging for the ROH World Championship the night before, Jim Cornette gave him a bye and automatically advanced him to the Six-Way Elimination match, making him the only wrestler ever to advance to the finals of Survival of the Fittest without winning an opening round match. In non-tournament action, ROH World Champion Austin Aries and ROH World Tag Team Champion Davey Richards teamed up to face The Briscoes, while The Young Bucks squared off with The House of Truth. And in a pre-show dark match, future WWE wrestler Ricochet, who a year later would go on to be a major player for Ring of Honor's rival promotion Dragon Gate USA/EVOLVE, stepped into an ROH ring for the only time in his career, teaming with Bobby Dempsey and Kyle O'Reilly in a Six-Man Tag Team match against Aaron Scott, Shawn Schultz and Tommy Mercer (a.k.a. former TNA wrestler Crimson).

Today in Ring of Honor History: October 11 - 2014: Ring of Honor held "Champions vs. All-Stars 2014" in Kalamazoo, MI. As the name suggests, the show saw the return of the Champions vs. All-Stars match, with ROH World Champion Jay Briscoe leading the team of ROH World Television Champion Jay Lethal and ROH World Tag Team Champions reDRagon to victory in the Eight-Man Elimination Tag over the All-Star team of Adam Cole, Roderick Strong, ACH and Tommaso Ciampa. Originally Mark Briscoe was scheduled to be on the All-Star team, but he was forced to withdraw from the match after contracting a bad case of poison ivy, and was replaced by Ciampa, who was officially returning from suspension after brutally attacking Kevin Kelly and Bobby Cruise at "Death Before Dishonor XII: Night 2" [8/23/14]. Jimmy Jacobs got a hero's welcome from his hometown fans in his match against Frankie Kazarian, while his Decade stablemate BJ Whitmer received a slightly colder reception in his match against Will Ferrara. Christopher Daniels met Cedric Alexander in a hard fought match, Matt Taven squared off with The Romantic Touch, and Tadarius Thomas, who was last seen walking out on The Decade [ROH TV: Ep. #161], struck out on his own in a match against Owen Travers.

Today in Ring of Honor History: October 12 - 2017: Ring of Honor partnered with New Japan Pro Wrestling to kick off the "Global Wars 2017" tour in Buffalo, NY. The main event saw Bullet Club adopt the "Freebird Rule" as ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks swapped out Adam Page for Kenny Omega in their title defense against The Kingdom. Page instead went solo that night, losing in a singles match to KUSHIDA. The other two Bullet Club members, ROH World Champion Cody and Marty Scurll, were more successful, teaming together to defeat Toru Yano and YOSHI-HASHI of CHAOS. Christopher Daniels faced off against The Addictions' former ally Hiromu Takahashi, while Frankie Kazarian battled Jay Lethal. Mark Briscoe teamed with War Machine against Suzuki-gun's Minoru Suzuki and the Killer Elite Squad. Punishment Martinez squared off against Will Ospreay, Coast 2 Coast took on The Dawgs, and Bully Ray teased his retirement from wrestling. In two bonus Women of Honor matches, Sumie Sakai faced Deonna Purrazzo while Mandy Leon wrestled Jenny Rose. - 2018: ROH held "Glory by Honor XVI" in Baltimore, MD. Jay Lethal made another successful defense of the ROH World Championship, retaining against his 2017 rival Silas Young. Former ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions SoCal Uncensored challenged for the titles for the final time, coming up short against Bullet Club's Cody and The Young Bucks. ROH World Tag Team Champions The Briscoes competed in a non-title match, facing Beer City Bruiser and Brian Milonas. Likewise new ROH World Television Champion Jeff Cobb's match was non-title, with him picking up a win over Eli Isom. WOH World Champion Sumie Sakai was in non-title action as well, as she teamed up with Britt Baker against Jenny Rose and Stella Grey. Tied at one win apiece, Marty Scurll and Shane "Hurricane" Helms meet in a rubber match, but was unable to decide a winner as the match ended in a no contest (thus setting up a fourth and final match). Adam Page squared off with Shane Taylor, the not retired Bully Ray faced Jonathan Gresham in a No Disqualification match, and Flip Gordon and Cheeseburger (a replacement for Kenny King) teamed together against The Kingdom's Vinny Marseglia and TK O'Ryan. - 2019: ROH held "Glory by Honor: NOLA" in New Orleans, LA. After winning a 15-Man Battle Royal, Silas Young wrestled for the ROH World Championship for the second year in row, but came up short against Rush. Meanwhile, after first defeating Dalton Castle in the semifinals, ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champion PCO bested his Villain Enterprises leader Marty Scurll to win the Number One Contender tournament and earn a shot at the ROH World Championship at "Final Battle 2019" [12/13/19]. Shane Taylor, in addition to retaining the ROH World Television Championship against local wrestler J. Spade, announced the creation of Shane Taylor Promotions as he was fed up with the way he'd been treated by Ring of Honor. The Briscoes defended the ROH World Tag Team Championship against the father and son duo of Luke Hawx and PJ Hawx. After a two week reign, Angelina Love's time as WOH World Champion came to an end when Kelly Klein won the title for a third and final time in a rematch from "Death Before Dishonor XVII" [9/27/19]. LifeBlood's Mark Haskins and Tracy Williams took on Villain Enterprises' Brody King and Flip Gordon, as well as having to contend with Bully Ray. Alex Shelley wrestled his former Search and Destroy teammate Jonathan Gresham. And with TK O'Ryan sidelined with a concussion, Matt Taven set out to discover who attacked The Kingdom backstage at "Death Before Dishonor XVII: Fallout" [9/28/19].

Silas Young getting title shots felt so abnormal given he slided down into an eternal feud/partnership with the Bouncers shortly after.

Today in Ring of Honor History: October 13 - 2012: Ring of Honor held "Glory by Honor XI: The Unbreakable Hope" in Mississauga, ON. The title was a reference to Michael Elgin, who challenged Kevin Steen for the ROH World Championship in one of the greatest title defenses of Steen's reign. Ultimately, though, the night ended up being a bad one for all involved. After retaining, "Wrestling's Worst Nightmare" Steen received a message from his own personal nightmare, when a package was delivered to him containing the mask of El Generico. Elgin had the frustration of failing to win the title despite several close calls, while his manager Truth Martini had one of the worst nights of his career with the implosion of The House of Truth. While Elgin was in a high profile match, challenging for the ROH World Championship in the main event of one of the biggest Ring of Honor shows of the year, Roderick Strong had been booked to wrestle newcomer Tadarius Thomas in an exhibition directly after intermission. Taking such a matchup on an important event to be a personal insult, Strong not only withdrew from facing Thomas, he quit The House of Truth as well, ending his nearly three and half year partnership with Truth Martini. In need of a replacement, Martini ordered The House of Truth's hired gun Rhino to face Thomas instead. When Martini's repeated interference drew the ire of Rhino and ultimately cost him the match against the rookie, Rhino also left the group, but in a slightly more dramatic fashion than Strong. In what was easily the most painful bump of the night, Rhino quit The House of Truth by pressing Truth Martini over his head and throwing him out of the ring, accidently causing him to come down hip first across the infamous "guardrails of doom". Thanks to some underhanded tactics, S.C.U.M. managed to retain the ROH World Tag Team Championship against The Briscoes. Adam Cole made another successful defense of the ROH World Television Championship, besting his mentor Eddie Edwards. Jay Lethal, who was a hero in the eyes of several fans for getting rid of Jim Cornette ["Killer Instinct" - 10/6/12], utilized his pent-up anger from his heated match against Kevin Steen to defeat Davey Richards. Rhett Titus and BJ Whitmer took on Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team in a Grudge match. After forcing himself on Maria Kanellis on the latest episode of Ring of Honor television [Ep. #55 - taped 9/22/12], Mike Mondo (who was the babyface) tried to get under Mike Bennett's skin in a singles match. And Caprice Coleman and Cedric Alexander pulled out a victory over the Bravado Brothers. - 2017: ROH and New Japan continued the "Global Wars 2017" tour in Pittsburgh, PA. The night got off to a very bad start, as thirty seconds into the opening match, Mark Briscoe suffered a dislocated elbow while facing Hiromu Takahashi. It would end on a high note, though, with Bullet Club going super "Freebird Rule" and having Kenny Omega, ROH World Champion Cody and Marty Scurll's match against CHAOS' Toru Yano, YOSHI-HASHI and Will Ospreay turned into an ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship defense. The highlight of the match saw the actually Six-Man Champions, The Young Bucks and Adam Page, run out to join their friends and do a ten-boot spot in the corner. For their part on the show, the Bucks challenged the Motor City Machine Guns for the ROH World Tag Team Championship in a Three-Way match involving The Kingdom, while Page participated in a Proving Ground: Instant Reward Six Man Mayhem match with ROH World Television Champion Kenny King, Josh Woods, KUSHIDA, Matt Taven and Punishment Martinez. Jay Lethal faced off against Jay White. Silas Young tried to prove he really was a man in a singles match against Minoru Suzuki. War Machine squared off against the Killer Elite Squad. Best Friends were scheduled to face The Addiction, but ended up taking on The Dawgs instead when The Addiction refused to wrestle as payback for the Pittsburgh fans' disregard for their own friendship earlier in the year [ROH TV: Ep. #285 - taped 2/11/17]. For the first time since the relaunch of the division, the Women of Honor competed on ROH pay-per-view, with Sumie Sakai, Britt Baker and Faye Jackson teaming up against Deonna Purrazzo, Jenny Rose and Mandy Leon. And Bully Ray continued his "retirement" tour, saying goodbye for now to the Pittsburgh fans. - 2021: On Women's Division Wednesday, Holidead and Willow teamed up to take on the pink team of Alex Gracia and Laynie Luck.

I was at the Global Wars: Pittsburgh show. I remember waiting in line outside the building and nearly EVERYONE there was wearing a Bullet Club shirt. They really were the biggest thing going at the time. I wore my Ring Crew Express t-shirt from 2004 to this show, and after the show was over I wound up getting a Bullet Club shirt because of just how special that whole crew felt at the time. I got swept up in the mania.
This was also the show where I became a fan of Matt Taven, simply because I thought he had funny, quick-witted interactions with the fans.
Despite the rocky start with the Mark Briscoe match ending in 30 seconds, the show was just incredibly fun.

Today in Ring of Honor History: October 14 - 2005: Ring of Honor held "Enter the Dragon" in Cleveland, OH. The show was named after Bryan Danielson, who after missing the three previous shows, returned to make his first defense as ROH World Champion, taking on his then greatest rival, Austin Aries. BJ Whitmer and Jimmy Jacobs, now under the management of Lacey, challenge Tony Mamaluke and Sal Rinauro for the ROH Tag Team Championship in a rematch from "Joe vs. Kobashi" [10/1/05]. ROH Pure Champion Nigel McGuinness was in non-title action, facing Claudio Castagnoli in a rematch from "Fate of an Angel" [7/16/05]. Fresh off his hard hitting encounters with Kenta Kobashi, Samoa Joe teamed with his protégé Jay Lethal to take on Jimmy Rave and Alex Shelley of The Embassy, who showed they were paying close attention to the Kobashi encounters, but unfortunately lacked the strength to chop effectively. Meanwhile, after a seven show absence, Abyss made his return to continue The Embassy's war with Generation Next by squaring off with the slightly smaller Jack Evans. In need of allies for his feud with Homicide, Colt Cabana reached out to Steve Corino to team with him against The Rottweilers. In a nice bit of continuity, when told he was in tag match that night, Corino thought he teaming with CM Punk against Samoa Joe and Jay Lethal, the match he "no showed" at "Back to Basics" [3/12/05]. Roderick Strong wrestled Jimmy Yang, and Matt Stryker made his final Ring of Honor appearance, facing Ricky Reyes. - 2016: ROH held "Glory by Honor XV: Night 1" in Chicago Ridge, IL. The main event saw a continuation of the long running feud between Kyle O'Reilly and ROH World Champion Adam Cole, with O'Reilly teaming with his reDRagon partner ROH World Television Champion Bobby Fish against Cole and fellow Bullet Club member Adam Page. ROH World Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks ended up pulling double duty, as the brothers first competed in solo action with Matt Jackson taking on Jay Lethal in a singles match while Nick Jackson participated in a Four Corner Survival match against ACH, Kamaitachi and visiting CMLL luchador Angel de Oro, before teaming together to defend their titles against The Addiction. The Briscoes also went solo that night, with Jay Briscoe facing Dalton Castle, while Mark Briscoe had his first ever singles match against Colt Cabana. The Motor City Machine Guns teamed with Jay White in a Six-Man Tag Team match against The Cabinet, Donovan Dijak won a Three-Way match over Beer City Bruiser and Punishment Martinez, and Cheeseburger and Will Ferrara faced off with The Tempura Boyz. And in a bonus Women of Honor match, 95-year-old Thunderkitty (who looked surprisingly good for her age) took on young whippersnapper Kelly Klein. - 2017: ROH and New Japan continued the "Global Wars 2017" tour in Columbus, OH. After months of being bullied and tortured by the Bullet Club on "Being the Elite", Flip Gordon finally faced off with them, teaming with Best Friends to challenge Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks for the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship in the main event. Fellow Bullet Club member Cody defended the ROH World Championship against New Japan's KUSHIDA, while Marty Scurll and Adam Page teamed up against ROH World Television Champion Kenny King and Colt Cabana. Originally Mark Briscoe was scheduled to be partners with King, but he was forced to withdraw from the match due to dislocating his elbow. After attacking ROH World Tag Team Champions the Motor City Machine Guns the night before, The Addiction faced off against their Search and Destroy teammates Jay White and Jonathan Gresham. Meanwhile, wanting to be fighting champions, the Motor City Machine Guns agreed to put the ROH World Tag titles on the line in what was originally scheduled to be a non-title match against Silas Young and Beer City Bruiser. Jay Lethal took on Hiromu Takahashi, Shane Taylor wrestled Josh Woods, and Sumie Sakai squared off with the debuting Holidead. And in a strictly New Japan match, CHAOS' Toru Yano, YOSHI-HASHI and Will Ospreay faced off against Minoru Suzuki and the Killer Elite Squad of Suzuki-gun. - 2018: ROH held a television taping in Philadelphia, PA. The Briscoes defended the ROH World Tag Team Championship in a Three-Way match against The Young Bucks and SoCal Uncensored's Frankie Kazarian and Scorpio Sky. Originally Kazarian was scheduled to team with Christopher Daniels, but with Daniels not medically cleared to compete, Sky was forced to substitute. In a shocking twist, SoCal Uncensored would win the match and become the new Tag Team Champions. The title change threw the future of SCU into question, as ROH COO Joe Koff previously stated he wasn't going to renew The Addiction's contract when they expired at the end of the year, thus making their chances of staying in the promotion dependent on them becoming champions. By winning the ROH World Tag Team Championship with Sky, Frankie Kazarian had his much needed title, but Christopher Daniels was now left out on the cold. After an unfortunate worsening back injury hampered and ultimately ended his reign [ROH TV: Ep. #357 - taped 6/30/18], former ROH World Champion Dalton Castle made his in-ring return after nearly four months of recovering, teaming with the current champion Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham in a Six-Man Tag Team match against the "Real ROH World Champion" Matt Taven and The Kingdom. Following their no contest at "Glory by Honor XVI" [10/12/18], the rivalry between "The Hero" and "The Villain" came to an end when Marty Scurll bested Shane "Hurricane" Helms in a No Disqualification match. The ongoing feud between Flip Gordon and Bully Ray saw them take part in the first and only "Pick Your Punishment" match. Each man would pick a wrestler to face off in match, and if their representative won, they could administer any punishment they wished on the loser. In a matchup probably no one ever would have predicted taking place in Ring of Honor, Silas Young (representing Bully Ray) defeated ECW icon The Sandman (representing Flip Gordon). In keeping with the ECW theme, for punishment, Bully made Gordon stuffer ten Singapore cane shots to the back. Gordon was offered an easy out by Bully, simply needing to say "I quit", but he refused, choosing to endure the shots while several other wrestlers came out to support him. ROH World Television Champion Jeff Cobb wrestled a non-title match against fellow big man Shane Taylor, Cody took on Kenny King, and Cheeseburger and Eli Isom faced off against Beer City Bruiser and Brian Milonas. And WOH World Champion Sumie Sakai teamed up with Jenny Rose and Madison Rayne for a Six-Woman Tag Team match against Kelly Klein, Karen Q and Britt Baker.

Today in Ring of Honor History: October 15 - 2004: Ring of Honor held "Gold", their 50th show, in Dayton, OH. After getting crushed at "Midnight Express Reunion" [10/2/04], the Second City Saints looked to even the score with Generation Next, teaming with Jimmy Jacobs in a Six-Man Tag Team match against Alex Shelley, Austin Aries and Jack Evans. The match was CM Punk and Jacobs' second matches of the evening, with Punk opening the show by facing Homicide, while Jacobs teamed with Delirious for the first time ever to take on Special K. ROH Tag Team Champion Rocky Romero became the latest challenger to fall to ROH World Champion Samoa Joe, who was just over one week away from his 600th day as champion. The feud pitting Dan Maff and BJ Whitmer against the Carnage Crew to see who was the face of "Ring of Hardcore" kicked off in earnest, with Mick Foley, the man who inadvertently instigated the feud, acting as the guest referee. The legendary Ricky Steamboat took exception to Foley's "Ring of Hardcore", confronting him to advocate for pure wrestling. Nigel McGuinness picked up a victory over Josh Daniels, Matt Stryker and Roderick Strong in a Four Corner Survival match, Jay Lethal took on Chad Collyer, and Matt Sydal scored an upset over Trent Acid. - 2005: ROH held "Buffalo Stampede" in Buffalo, NY. In the main event, Steve Corino challenged for the ROH World Championship first and only time, facing Bryan Danielson. Showing how seriously he took the match, Corino decided to forgo his customary entrance of having his personal ring announcer drag out his ring introduction by reading off a ridiculously long list. Meanwhile, new ROH Commissioner Jim Cornette decided to address the issue of future challengers by reviving the old "Top Five Ranking" system utilized in 2003. Samoa Joe received a rematch from losing the ROH Pure Championship ["Dragon Gate Invasion" - 8/27/05], wrestling Nigel McGuinness in what was his last match for the belt. Tony Mamaluke and Sal Rinauro made another successful defense of the ROH Tag Team Championship, besting Homicide and Ricky Reyes of The Rottweilers. Being in the tag match, Homicide continued his feud against Colt Cabana by sending Low Ki to face him in their only singles match together. The war between Generation Next and The Embassy turned to actual warfare, with Austin Aries, Roderick Strong and Jack Evans fighting Jimmy Rave, Alex Shelley and Abyss in a wild Six Man War. The new Lacey's Angels went 50/50 for the night, with BJ Whitmer defeating Davey Andrews, while Jimmy Jacobs came up short against Jay Lethal. And Sterling James Keenan (Corey Graves) received another tryout in Ring of Honor, facing Claudio Castagnoli. - 2010: ROH held "Allied Forces" in Dayton, OH. The show was named after the main event, as one day before they finally faced off against each other in a singles match, Davey Richards and Christopher Daniels teamed up to challenge the Kings of Wrestling for the ROH World Tag Team Championship. Homicide picked up his third straight victory since returning to Ring of Honor, defeating Kenny King. Kevin Steen and Steve Corino took on the new duo of Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly, marking the first ever meeting between Steen and Cole. Jay Briscoe and Rhett Titus wrestled the first of what is surprisingly only three singles matches they've had against each other, while Mark Briscoe faced Mike Mondo. Ricky Reyes made his first non-HDNet appearance in nearly a year and a half ["Validation" - 5/9/09], squaring off with The Metal Master (Chad Collyer). Daizee Haze took on Lady Jojo (former TNA Knockout Sojournor Bolt). And Ring of Honor borrowed a page from Japanese wrestling by putting ROH Wrestling Academy student Andy Ridge in a five match Trial Series, kicking things off with him against Colt Cabana. - 2016: ROH held "Glory by Honor XV: Night 2" in Dearborn, MI. The show was headlined by the 2016 Champions vs. All-Stars match, with ROH World Champion Adam Cole, ROH World Television Champion Bobby Fish and ROH World Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks taking on the All-Star team of The Briscoes, Colt Cabana and Dalton Castle. The 2016 edition would be the only Champions vs. All-Stars match without an official winner, as following the eliminations of Cole, Fish and the Briscoes, Castle challenged the Bucks to abandon the Champions vs. All-Stars format and defend the Tag titles against him and Cabana instead. Jay Lethal and Frankie Kazarian, former frequent adversaries in TNA, faced off in their first singles match against each other in ROH. In another match carrying over from other promotions, Kamaitachi took on his old CMLL rival Angel de Oro. Hometown heroes the Motor City Machine Guns squared off with Silas Young and Beer City Bruiser, while their friend and ally Jay White met Donovan Dijak in a singles match. The All-Night Express wrestled The Tempura Boyz, and BJ Whitmer and Punishment Martinez squashed Blake Acumen and Jim Beardsley. The biggest news coming out of the show would be ACH, who took on his old rival Adam Page. One week before the show, ACH, who was under an exclusive contract with Ring of Honor and needed their permission to appear in other independent promotions, made his return to AAW to participate in the Jim Lynam Memorial Tournament. During his appearance, ACH cut a thinly vailed promo on ROH, saying he was "married", but his "wife" doesn't appreciate him the way he deserves to be, so he plans on getting a "divorce" soon in order to return to his "girlfriend" who always appreciated him. Naturally the promo didn't go over well with the ROH office (or locker room), and as such the match with Page ended up being ACH's last in Ring of Honor (with him subsequently returning to AAW regularly). - 2017: ROH and New Japan wrapped up the "Global Wars 2017" tour in Villa Park, IL. For the fourth night in a row Kenny Omega was in the main event, but for once he wasn't defending the Bullet Club's ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship. Instead he defended his own IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship against YOSHI-HASHI. Fellow Bullet Club member Marty Scurll took on Hiromu Takahashi, while ROH World Champion Cody and ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks and Adam Page competed in an Eight-Man Tag Team match against Search and Destroy (which marked the last time all four members teamed together). ROH's Flip Gordon and New Japan's Will Ospreay faced off in a battle of the high fliers, while ROH's Colt Cabana and New Japan's Toru Yano faced off in a battle of the super serious wrestlers. The remainder of the show consisted of tag team action, with Jay Lethal, ROH World Television Champion Kenny King and Shane Taylor teaming up against Suzuki-gun, the duo of KUSHIDA and Cheeseburger facing The Addiction, Best Friends squaring off against Silas Young and Beer City Bruiser, and The Dawgs taking on the debuting Brian Johnson and Justin Pusser. - 2021: ROH aired their latest episode of television from Philadelphia, PA. After being attacked following their match on the previous episode [Ep. #525 - aired 10/8/21], ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions S.O.S. hoped to gain more gold by challenging La Facción Ingobernable for the ROH World Tag Team Championship. And in the main event, the four original members of The Foundation teamed together for the final time, wrestling an Eight-Man Tag Team match against World Famous CB, Eli Isom, Joe Keys and Taylor Rust.

Today in Ring of Honor History: October 16 - 2003: Ring of Honor held "Tradition Continues" in the Baltimore suburb of Glen Burnie, MD. The debut show in their future home saw Jay Briscoe, who would end up being a major player during ROH's Baltimore years, challenge Samoa Joe for the ROH World Championship. The match came about due to Jay pinning the champion in a non-title Four Corner Survival match at "Beating the Odds" [9/6/03]. New ROH Tag Team Champions The Backseat Boyz's reign came to a sudden and shocking end when they were defeated in their first title defense by Izzy and Dixie of Special K. CM Punk had his first ever singles match against AJ Styles, while his hated enemy Raven squared off with his old ECW adversary Justin Credible. Former ROH Champion Xavier picked up in a win in a Four Corner Survival match against Homicide, Mark Briscoe, and burgeoning rival John Walters. The Field of Honor tournament continued with Chris Sabin facing Matt Stryker in Block A, and the Block B matches of BJ Whitmer against Colt Cabana and Dan Maff versus Jimmy Rave. And Julius Smokes unveiled the first version of The Rottweilers, with former Special K bodyguard Slugger and Grim Reefer coming out on top in a Tag Team Scramble match with The Ring Crew Express, Danny Doring and Josh Daniels, and Slyk Wagner Brown and the debuting Sonjay Dutt. - 2004: ROH held "Joe vs. Punk II" in Chicago Ridge, IL. Originally the show was to be headlined by Steve Corino, who was returning after a nearly year long absence ["War of the Wire" - 11/29/03] to challenge Samoa Joe for the ROH World Championship. However, one week before the match was to take place, he was pulled from the show by Pro Wrestling ZERO1-Max. In need of a make good for the fans, ROH decided to give them the much anticipated rematch of Samoa Joe defending against CM Punk. Once again wrestling to a one hour draw, the match was built heavily on their initial encounter at "World Title Classic" [6/12/04], with both wrestlers repeating multiple spots from the first match only to find their opponent now knew how to counter them. Their match would be awarded five stars by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, the first American match to receive such a rating since the inaugural Hell in a Cell match between Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker seven years prior. Elsewhere on the show, Generation Next leader Alex Shelley took on his former tag team partner Jimmy Jacobs in an "I Quit" match, while Roderick Strong and Jack Evans looked to earn a shot at the ROH Tag Team Championship by defeating co-holder Rocky Romero and Homicide of The Rottweilers. After their verbal showdown the night before, Ricky Steamboat and Mick Foley each picked a team that personified their chosen wrestling style to face in a tag team match. Foley selected the established team of Dan Maff and BJ Whitmer to represent hardcore wrestling, while Steamboat paired Chad Collyer and Nigel McGuinness together to represent traditional pure wrestling. Initially the match was contested under traditional rules, but was turned into a No Disqualification match after being temporarily halted following the interference of the Carnage Crew, who were bitter that Foley didn't back them as the face of "Ring of Hardcore". Following loses on the past two shows ["Midnight Express Reunion" - 10/2/04; "Gold" - 10/14/04], Trent Acid began questioning his future in ROH after "the king of the multi-man matches" came up short in a Four Corner Survival match against Angel Dust, Josh Daniels and Matt Sydal. Matt Stryker added another lose to Special K's losing streak by making short work of Dixie, Jay Lethal and Delirious met in the first of only two matches they'd have together in ROH (the other being their Ultimate Warrior/Randy Savage remake at "ROH Unauthorized: A Night of Hoopla" [7/11/13]), and Daizee Haze had her first match on the main show, wrestling Tracy Brooks. - 2010: ROH held "Richards vs. Daniels" in Chicago Ridge, IL. The main event brought the long awaited showdown between Christopher Daniels and the man he confronted when he made his return to Ring of Honor at "The Big Bang!" [4/3/10], Dave Richards. The Briscoes continued their long running feud with ROH World Tag Team Champions the Kings of Wrestling, besting them in an Elimination Tag Team match. Hometown hero Colt Cabana and Steve Corino faced off in an "I Quit" match, bringing an end to their active participation in the greater feud between El Generico and Kevin Steen. For his part on the show, Kevin Steen took on Homicide in a longtime coming rematch from "New Frontiers" [6/4/05]. Newcomers Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly faced another test as a tag team, squaring off with The All-Night Express. ROH Wrestling Academy student Andy Ridge continued his Trial Series, taking on Ricky Reyes. Daizee Haze teamed with Jamilia Craft (a.k.a. Jenny Rose) against Nevaeh and Lady JoJo. And Chad Collyer, who appeared frequently from 2002 through 2006, made his final Ring of Honor appearance, competing as The Metal Master in a match against Mike Mondo. - 2020: ROH aired their latest episode of television from Baltimore, MD. The quarter finals of the ROH Pure Championship Tournament concluded with Tracy Williams facing Fred Yehi and PJ Black taking on Josh Woods. And former TNA and WWE wrestler EC3 made his Ring of Honor debut.

Today in Ring of Honor History: October 19 2007: Ring of Honor held "Survival of the Fittest 2007", their debut show in Las Vegas, NV. After advancing over the debuting Karl Anderson, Chris Hero made history in the tournament by not just winning, but doing so in a clean sweep, single handedly eliminating all five other wrestlers in finals: Austin Aries, Claudio Castagnoli, Rocky Romero, Roderick Strong, and the debuting Human Tornado. The 2007 tournament is the longest Survival of the Fittest in terms of number of matches. Initially Bryan Danielson's match against new ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness was to be the sixth and final opening round match, but for the second year in a row it ended in a time limit draw ["Survival of the Fittest 2006" - 10/6/06]. Instead of doing a Five-Way finals like the year before, the scheduled Three-Way exhibition bout between Tornado, Shane Hagadorn and Tony Kozina was turned into a seventh opening round match. Other participants in the tournament were: 2005 winner Delirious, Brent Albright, Davey Richards, and TJ Perkins. And in non-tournament action, following their violent attack at "Man Up" [9/15/07], ROH World Tag Team Champions The Briscoes finally got a chance to get their hands on Age of the Fall leader Jimmy Jacobs, facing him and Necro Butcher in a Street Fight. - 2021: On Week by Week, Brian Milonas took on Eric Martin in a Pure Rules match, while his tag team partner Beer City Bruiser got into a heated confrontation with commentator Caprice Coleman.

Today in Ring of Honor History: October 20 - 2017: Ring of Honor held a television taping in Philadelphia, PA. With the episodes taking them through the end of November, ROH began the push towards "Final Battle 2017" [12/15/17]. Three of ROH's four titles were on the line, with Cody defending the ROH World Championship against Ryan Nova, the Motor City Machine Guns defending the ROH World Tag Team Championship against War Machine, and Kenny King defending the ROH World Television Championship against Mark Briscoe, who insisted on challenging for the title despite being only one week removed from dislocating his elbow ["Global Wars 2017: Pittsburgh" - 10/13/17]. The decision to go after the title annoyed Mark's brother Jay Briscoe, who, despite being a two-time ROH World Champion, thought it was wrong of him to go after a singles title as they are a tag team. Jay had his own issues to deal with that night, as Bully Ray's "retirement tour" brought about the return of ECW icon Tommy Dreamer. Dalton Castle, scheduled to challenge Cody for the ROH World Championship at "Final Battle 2017", set out running the gauntlet through Bullet Club, starting with ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champion Adam Page. Best Friends defeated The Addiction to become the number one contenders for the ROH World Tag Team Championship, while three singles matches were held to determine the challengers in the Four Corner Survival match for the ROH World Television Championship. Punishment Martinez was the first man to advance after besting Josh Woods, followed by Shane Taylor, who defeated Cheeseburger, and Silas Young, who picked up a tainted win over Jonathan Gresham. Flip Gordon selected Coast 2 Coast and newcomer Scorpio Sky to team with him in an Eight-Man Tag Team match against Bullet Club's ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks, Marty Scurll and Adam Page. Jay White wrestled his last match for ROH TV, facing Matt Taven. A fan got to see the action really up close and personal when a brawl between War Machine and The Addiction ended with her getting Frankie Kazarian thrown right into her face, resulting in a bloody nose. And in a bonus Women of Honor match, Deonna Purrazzo and Karen Q squared off in a grudge match. - 2020: With Ring of Honor having returned to action following their hiatus from COVID-19 pandemic, for the first time on Week by Week fans were presented with a new matchup. In a Wildcard Tag Team match, Dalton Castle and Rust Taylor were partnered up to face the duo of Rocky Romero and Kenny King.

Today in Ring of Honor History: October 21 - 2007: Ring of Honor made their West Coast debut with "Chaos at the Cow Palace" in San Francisco, CA. Ostensibly the name was a reference to the post-match angle of the main event, which saw a huge brawl featuring most of the night's roster. In truth it was a mild summery of the weekend's infamous Wrestle Fan Fest 2007. The convention would best be described as a massive clusterf***, as it saw, among other things, several advertised wrestlers not appearing due to not being paid, Scott Steiner leading those who did appear in staging a sit in to get their pay (or at least part of it), Lex Luger suffering a spinal infarction and being hospitalized with paralysis (which he's never really recovered from), the scheduled MMA show being shut down by the California State Athletic, and an argument between MMA legend Don Frye and Leland Chapman (the son of Dog the Bounty Hunter) escalating to a fight in the hotel lobby between Frye and Chapman's bodyguard. For their own piece of the disastrous weekend, Ring of Honor, who only made the West Coast excursion after being invited out to take part in the supposedly historic convention, were told they would be allowed to hold their show as scheduled...provided they personally paid the venue cost to use the Cow Palace. Until being surpassed by the "G1 Supercard" in Madison Square Garden [4/6/19], the Cow Palace was largest venue ROH ever ran, drawing a few hundred fans in a building whose capacity is 16,500. The main event saw ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness make his first title defense, taking on ROH World Tag Team Champion Jay Briscoe. ROH's sister promotion Full Impact Pro was also represented on the show, with Roderick Strong defending the FIP World Heavyweight Championship against Claudio Castagnoli. Austin Aries and Bryan Danielson met in the second match of their Best of Three Series, with Danielson tying things up at one win each. No Remorse Corps' Davey Richards and Rocky Romero pulled double duty, first defeating TJ Perkins and Tony Kozina, before losing an impromptu "Relaxed Rules" match against Jimmy Jacobs and Necro Butcher of The Age of the Fall. Delirious took on Brent Albright in a grudge match, Adam Pearce faced Karl Anderson, and Chris Hero square off with Human Tornado (who he was presently feuding with in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla). The show was headline by a $20,000 Wildcard Six-Man Tag Team match, which saw former ROH World Champion Jay Lethal partnered with Alex Shelley and Silas Young against the trio of Jay Briscoe, Christopher Daniels and Colt Cabana. Former NXT wrestler Bull James got an opportunity to earn a shot at the ROH World Championship, facing Adam Cole in a Proving Ground match, but lost in large part due to Punishment Martinez, who he was scheduled to face the next night. The post-match attack on James by Martinez and BJ Whitmer brought about a surprise appearance by Mr. Wrestling 3, who was cosplaying as The Midnight Rider. Overall it was a bad night for Whitmer and Martinez, as they were cost their own tag team match against Cheeseburger and Will Ferrara thanks to trickery by Steve Corino. Rhett Titus challenged Bobby Fish for the ROH World Television Championship, while his fellow Cabinet members Caprice Coleman and Kenny King took on Leon St. Giovanni and Shaheem Ali. Kyle O'Reilly picked up a win in a Four Corner Survival match against Donovan Dijak, Jay White and Kamaitachi. Mark Briscoe faced Frankie Kazarian, War Machine squared off with The Tempura Boyz, and Dalton Castle and Adam Page met in their second annual singles match.

Today in Ring of Honor History: October 22 - 2016: Ring of Honor held "Road to Final Battle 2016: Night 2" in Lakeland, FL. Silas Young received his second ever shot at the ROH World Championship, challenging Adam Cole. Adam Page not only pulled double duty, he walked away with two victories, albeit tainted ones. After first defeating Mark Briscoe, Page interrupted a non-title match between ROH World Television Champion Bobby Fish and Jay Briscoe, and subsequently pinned Jay in a Three-Way match. The partnership of Colt Cabana and Dalton Castle once again proved successful, with the two besting former ROH World Tag Team Champions The Addiction. After the events of the previous night, the scheduled singles match between former NXT wrestler Bull James and Punishment Martinez was turned into a tag team match held under relaxed rules, with James teaming with Mr. Wrestling 3 against Martinez and BJ Whitmer. Jay Lethal faced off against Kamaitachi in an exhibition bout. Alex Shelley and Jay White came out on top in match against War Machine. Originally Shelley and White were scheduled to face The Cabinet, but Caprice Coleman and The All-Night Express withdrew from the match after venting their frustration with "The Cabinet" gimmick and how they'd been utilized by Ring of Honor. They weren't the only frustrated ones on the show, as Prince Nana walked out on Donovan Dijak following his loss in the opening match against Kyle O'Reilly. And Cheeseburger and Will Ferrara picked up a win in a Three-Way Tag Team match against The Tempura Boyz and the duo of Leon St. Giovanni and Shaheem Ali. - 2021: ROH aired their latest episode of television from Philadelphia, PA. The entire episode was dedicated to the feud between The Foundation and VLNCE UNLTD, with the factions facing off in three separate matches. In the main event, Jay Lethal and Homicide, whose history together in Ring of Honor goes all the way back to the very first time Lethal stepped into an ROH ring ["Final Battle 2002" - 12/28/02], faced off against each other for the final time. Jonathan Gresham and Tracy Williams teamed up against Brody King and Chris Dickinson, and Rhett Titus took on Tony Deppen.

Today in Ring of Honor History: October 23 - 2015: Ring of Honor held a television taping in Kalamazoo, MI. ROH World Champion Jay Lethal's time as a double champion came to an end when Roderick Strong defeated him to become ROH World Television Champion for the second time (coincidentally, Strong's first reign came from defeating Lethal as well ["Showdown in the Sun: Day #2" - 3/31/12]). Lethal's reign as TV Champion lasted a record setting 567 days, making it second-longest title reign in Ring of Honor history after Samoa Joe's 645-day reign as ROH World Champion. The title loss would cap off a bad night for The House of Truth, as Donovan Dijak and Joey Daddiego also came up short in a tag team match against Michael Elgin and Moose. The Kingdom made their first title defense of the ROH World Tag Team Championship, facing former champions The Addiction. The Kingdom would pull double duty on the show, later teaming with their leader Adam Cole in a Six-Man Tag Team match against Dalton Castle and War Machine. That match was War Machine's second of the evening as well, as they'd previously bested Silas Young and Beer City Bruiser. The Briscoes evened the score with The All-Night Express in a rematch from "All-Star Extravaganza VII" [9/18/15]. ACH and Cedric Alexander faced off against each other for the final time. And Will Ferrara went 50/50 in singles matches for the night, first losing against Caprice Coleman and later winning against Adam Page. - 2020: Ring of Honor aired their latest episode of television from Baltimore, MD. The ROH Pure Championship Tournament began drawing to a close as the semifinals took place, with Jonathan Gresham facing Josh Woods while Jay Lethal took on Tracy Williams.

Today in Ring of Honor History: October 24 - 2008: Ring of Honor held "Return of the 187" in Danbury, CT. The show was headlined by the return of Ring of Honor founding father and former ROH World Champion Homicide, who back for one weekend with his LAX tag team partner Hernandez (who was making his first ROH appearance since "War of the Wire" [11/29/03]). The two would win the night's main event, the first and only Iron Team match, a Four-Way 30-minute Iron Man Tag Team match. The other participants included Jimmy Jacobs and Tyler Black of The Age of the Fall, Sweet n' Sour, Inc.'s Chris Hero and Davey Richards (who was returning after a four month tour of Pro Wrestling NOAH and Europe), and ROH World Tag Team Champions Kevin Steen and El Generico, the only team in the match not to score a single point. Homicide and Hernandez would not be the only familiar faces returning on the show, as before the scheduled exhibition match between Jerry Lynn and Claudio Castagnoli, a penniless Prince Nana jumped the guardrail and begged ROH to take him back. In the only title match of the night, Austin Aries challenged Go Shiozaki for the FIP World Heavyweight Championship. Due to Gabe Sapolsky's habit of not letting feuds end at their conclusion, Mark Briscoe, fresh off end his feud with Necro Butcher and The Age of the Fall at "Glory by Honor VII" [9/20/08], took part in a Three-Way No Disqualification match against Necro Butcher and Age of the Fall's Delirious. Meanwhile, his brother Jay Briscoe squared off against Brent Albright, who pulled out the victory despite being focused on Sweet n' Sour, Inc. Ruckus took on Jason Blade, Sara Del Rey faced Ariel, and Top of the Class Trophy holder Rhett Titus fought Grizzly Redwood while trying to avoid Daizee Haze, who wanted to fight him. - 2015: ROH held "Glory by Honor XIV", their final show in Dayton, OH. Hosting twenty-six shows in twelve years, the Montgomery County Fairgrounds was the location for historic moments such as the debut of future ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness ["Wrath of the Racket" - 8/9/03], the first match in the Samoa Joe/CM Punk Trilogy ["World Title Classic" - 6/12/04], James Gibson winning the ROH World Championship ["Redemption" - 8/12/05], the final encounter of the ROH/CZW feud ["War of the Wire II" - 7/28/06], Tyler Black's star making performance against Bryan Danielson ["Breakout" - 1/25/08], the first NWA World Heavyweight Championship match in Ring of Honor ["Battle for Supremacy" - 6/27/08], and Michael Elgin's first Survival of the Fittest victory ["Survival of the Fittest 2011" - 11/18/11]. All of ROH's subsequent shows in Ohio would move one hour East to Columbus. For the final night, Ring of Honor closed things out with the 2015 Champions vs. All-Stars match, which pitted ROH World Champion Jay Lethal, ROH World Television Champion Roderick Strong, and ROH World Tag Team Champions The Kingdom against the All-Star team of Dalton Castle, Moose and The Addiction. Originally the match was to be Lethal and The Kingdom against Strong, Castle and AJ Styles due to Lethal being both the World and Television Champion, but Strong was forced to change teams after he won the TV title the night before. Moose was selected to replace Styles after he had to withdraw from the match due to injury, while The Addiction were added to even out the teams. Future three-time WOH World Champion Kelly Klein made her in-ring debut and quickly established her dominance, defeating Ray Lyn in just over one minute. The Briscoes squared off with War Machine. Michael Elgin took on fellow big man Donovan Dijak. Two months after suffering a seizer in the locker room ["Reloaded Tour: Atlanta" - 8/29/15], Cliff Compton made his return to ROH, winning a Four Corner Survival match over Adam Page, Brutal Bob Evans and Cedric Alexander. Adam Cole took on Will Ferrara, The All-Night Express faced Silas Young and Beer City Bruiser, and Caprice Coleman met Samson Walker.

Today in Ring of Honor History: October 25 - 2003: Ring of Honor held "Empire State Showdown" in Spencerport, NY. ROH World Champion Samoa Joe and Homicide met in a non-title rematch from "Do or Die" [5/31/03], this time No Holds Barred. New ROH Tag Team Champions Special K made their first title defense, facing off with their hated enemy the Carnage Crew. CM Punk wrestled his first time limit draw in ROH, taking Steve Corino to the full 20-minute limit. Almost as long as the match itself was their ring introduction, which went over fifteen minutes as Corino's personal ring announcer Bobby Cruise read off a list of wrestlers with known substance abuse problems (including Raven, Scotty the Body and Johnny Polo), while Punk responded by having ROH ring announcer Stephen DeAngelis read off a partial list of drugs Punk has never and will never take. Additionally, Corino's then traditional entrance of being seconded to the ring by a group of trainees saw the appearance of a pre-ROH referee Todd Sinclair. The Field of Honor tournament rolled on, with Chris Sabin taking on Xavier in Block A, while future tag team partners BJ Whitmer and Dan Maff squared off in Block B. Xavier's new rival John Walters pulled double duty on the show, first losing a singles match to Christopher Daniels, then later winning a Four Corner Survival match over Colt Cabana, Jimmy Rave and Justin Credible. Cabana would also have a dual role on the show, filling in for Gary Michael Cappetta as the backstage interviewer. This position would lead to a small but important moment in the upcoming feud between the Second City Saints and The Prophecy, as Cabana's questioning of Dan Maff being the person who attacked Lucy ["Wrath of the Racket" - 8/9/03] led to Maff swearing of the grave of his recently deceased father that The Prophecy was not behind the attack (when it was later revealed The Prophecy was in fact behind the attack due to BJ Whitmer, Maff harbored severe resentment towards Whitmer for making him liar). The Ring Crew Express, the top tag team in Ring of Honor, picked up a win in a Tag Team Scramble match over The Outcast Killaz, the Texas Wrestling Academy's Don Juan and Fast Eddie Vegas, and the duo of Alex Shelley and Jimmy Jacobs. And then school teacher Matt Striker competed in a dark match. - 2008: ROH held "Ring of Homicide 2" in Edison, NJ. Named after the main event, which saw Homicide team with his LAX partner Hernandez in a dream match against The Briscoes, the show would go down as one of the most newsworthy shows in Ring of Honor history. In the middle of the show, Brent Albright took on Chris Hero in a grudge match, which led to Albright suffering a post-match beatdown at the hands of Sweet n' Sour, Inc. and subsequently challenging them to a Steel Cage Warfare match ["Caged Collision" - 1/31/09]. Following the show, as fans were heading to their cars, Sweet n' Sour, Inc. attacked Albright a second time, this time in the middle of the parking lot. With the resulting scene looking like a legitimate gang fight had broken out, a passerby called 911, resulting in several police cars responding. The parking lot brawl would be the last angle Gabe Sapolsky booked for Ring of Honor. After months of creative stagnation, and wanting to expand ROH to television (which Sapolsky was against after personally experiencing ECW's time on TNN) among other issues, owner Cary Silkin felt a shakeup was needed to continue Ring of Honor's growth, and fired Sapolsky as booker that night, replacing him with Adam Pearce. Due to the creative shakeup, the show marked the end for several wrestlers in ROH, most notably on this show The Vulture Squad. While Jigsaw was already off that weekend, Julius Smokes' long tenure as a manager came to an end when he seconded Homicide in the main event, while Ruckus took part in a Six Man Mayhem match with Claudio Castagnoli, Davey Richards, Jason Blade, Rhett Titus, and returning CHIKARA wrestler Hallowicked. Sapolsky's final show saw the involvement of several CHIKARA wrestlers, as ROH World Tag Team Champions Kevin Steen and El Generico took on The Osirian Portal, while Brodie Lee debuted as the newest member The Age of the Fall, teaming with Delirious to defeat the returning Cheech and Cloudy, who had become a popular duo in CHIKARA after leaving ROH in 2005. CHIKARA was even represented on the pre-show match, when a dirty hobo named Vin Gerard took on Grizzly Redwood. The loss of Sapolsky not only brought an end to several wrestlers in ROH, it also brought about the end of the partnership between Ring of Honor and Full Impact Pro (though ROH would still work with FIP owner Sal Hamaoui for another for their DVD production). As such, Go Shiozaki's FIP World Heavyweight Championship match against Necro Butcher marked the last time the title was defended in ROH. Additionally, ROH's Top of the Class Trophy was retired, making Rhett Titus the final holder. Elsewhere on the show, Austin Aries fought Jimmy Jacobs in an "Anything Goes" match, Jerry Lynn and Tyler Black faced each other for the first time in ROH, Daizee Haze wrestled Jessie McKay, and Prince Nana once again crashed the show to beg for his job back. PWInsider report on Gabe Sapolsky's firing: www.pwinsider.com/ViewArticle.php?id=34239&p=1Interview with Cary Silkin on the decision: www.wrestlezone.com/news/199083-rohs-cary-silkin-discusses-firing-gabe-sapolsky-the-wrestler-moreGabe Sapolsky's comments afterwards: officialfan.proboards.com/thread/243760/gabe-sapolsky-finally-speaks- 2014: ROH held a television taping in Lakeland, FL. Jay Lethal made another successful defense of the ROH World Television Championship, defeating ACH in a rematch from their time limit draw on ROH TV [Ep. #153 - taped 8/9/14]. ROH World Champion Jay Briscoe teamed up with his brother Mark Briscoe to defeat The Kingdom's Michael Bennett and Matt Taven in a grudge match. Bennett would pull double duty on the show, later defending the "Title of Love" against The Romantic Touch, while Jay Briscoe would also participate in a quick squash match against QT Marshall. Meanwhile, The Kingdom's leader Adam Cole took on the recently returned Matt Sydal. Tadarius Thomas' status with The Decade was made clear when he teamed with Caprice Coleman and Will Ferrara in a Six-Man Tag Team match against Roderick Strong, BJ Whitmer and Adam Page. The match would lead to a breakdown in The Decade, as immediately following it Strong was attacked by his teammates. Coleman and Page would also be on the double duty crew that night, with Coleman later facing Michael Elgin while Page took on Aaron Solo. Hanson squared off with AJ Styles, while his War Machine partner Rowe made a special appearance to give an update following his motorcycle accident on August 14. Cedric Alexander fought Tommaso Ciampa, and #TheNewStreak hit 167-0 when RD Evans and Moose defeated The Worst Case Scenario. - 2019: ROH returned to the United Kingdom for what is to date their final tour, "Honor United 2019", kicking things off in London, England. In the main event ROH World Champion Rush teamed up with Jeff Cobb to take on ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champion Matt Scurll and Flip Gordon of Villain Enterprises. Meanwhile, Scurll's co-champions PCO and Brody King faced off with Australian wrestler Kyle Fletcher and German wrestler Lucky Kid (a.k.a. NXT UK's Teoman). Shane Taylor defended the ROH World Television Championship against Joe Hendry, while Kelly Klein defended the WOH World Championship in a grudge match against The Allure's Mandy Leon. ROH World Tag Team Champions the Briscoes split up to compete in singles matches, with Jay Briscoe squaring off with Jonathan Gresham, while Mark Briscoe wrestled Jay Lethal. The night would see Lethal and Gresham turn heel on the Briscoes, setting up their showdown at "Final Battle 2019" [12/13/19]. Future ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champion Flamita made his debut, facing Colt Cabana. LifeBlood's Mark Haskins and Tracy Williams took on the Australian tag team the Brat Pack. And Silas Young won a Six Man Mayhem match over Dalton Castle, Kenny King, Matt Taven, New Japan's Hikuleo, and British wrestler Rampage Brown.

Today in Ring of Honor History: October 26 - 2013: Ring of Honor held "Glory by Honor XII" in Chicago Ridge, IL. The show saw the second iteration of the Champions vs. All-Stars match, thus making this the first Glory by Honor headlined by it. The 2013 version would be the longest Champions vs. All-Stars match, and third longest Ring of Honor match in general, last 73 minutes. The All-Star team of Jay Lethal, Michael Elgin and C&C Wrestle Factory would eventually emerge victorious over the team of ROH World Champion Adam Cole, ROH World Television Champion Matt Taven and ROH World Tag Team Champions reDRagon. In addition to being the longest Champions vs. All-Star match, it was also unique in that it is the only time just two wrestlers made eliminations, with Cole single handedly eliminating Lethal and C&C Wrestle Factory, while Elgin single handedly eliminated all the champions. The end of the match would see the return of Jay Briscoe, who unveiled a custom title belt and proclaimed himself the "Real ROH World Champion". Meanwhile, Jay's brother Mark Briscoe took on Silas Young in a grudge match, which ended with him getting whipped with a leather belt, setting the stage for a Strap match between the two at "Final Battle 2013" [12/14/13]. Another grudge match that night saw Kevin Steen come up short against Michael Bennett. Like the Mark/Silas match, the post match angle was used to setup a rematch at "Final Battle 2013", with Bennett trying to end Steen's career by giving him a Piledriver on the edge of the ring, planting the seeds for their Stretcher match. The post-match angle would also see a special appearance by seven-time Women's World Champion Lisa Marie Varon (a.k.a. WWE's Victoria/TNA's Tara), who showed up to attack Maria Kanellis following a confrontation the two had days earlier at Varon's restaurant The Squared Circle. ROH's original breakout star Paul London made his third appearance of the year, facing Roderick Strong. London was set to make a special appearance at "Past vs. Present" [3/14/20], but the show was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, the match against Strong would be London's last appearance in Ring of Honor (though he would appear as an ROH representative on all four of PCW's "SuperShow of Honor" in 2014 [11/28-11/30]). Former TNA wrestler Jesse Sorensen made his one and only ROH appearance, facing Tommaso Ciampa. In the fourth match of his Trial Series, Jimmy Jacobs took on his future Decade young boy Adam Page. And Outlaw, Inc. squared off with Adrenaline RUSH, and despite being heels, showed them respect and called them the future of Ring of Honor. - 2019: ROH continued the "Honor United 2019" tour in Newport, Wales. With ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champion Brody King suffering a knee injury the night before, Colt Cabana stepped away from the commentary booth to team with PCO in the main event against ROH World Champion Rush and Jeff Cobb. Likewise with Bandido off the tour due to a knee injury, his MexaBlood tag team partner Flamita filled in for him, teaming with LifeBlood's Tracy Williams against Marty Scurll and Flip Gordon of Villain Enterprises. The other member of LifeBlood, Mark Haskins, went solo for the night, picking up a victory over Kenny King. After being bloodied the night before, ROH World Tag Team Champions The Briscoes had an opportunity to get their hands on Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham, facing them in a non-title Three-Way Tag Team match involving Kyle Fletcher and Lucky Kid. Shane Taylor made another successful defense of the ROH World Television Championship, retaining against Welsh wrestle Danny Jones. Dalton Castle took on New Japan's Hikuleo, while his frenemy Joe Hendry faced Matt Taven. Silas Young teamed with British wrestler Rampage Brown against the Brat Pack. And Kelly Klein suffered a conclusion during her successful title defense of the WOH World Championship against Lana Austin. The concussion would play a major part in ongoing backstage disputes between Klein and ROH management, which would ultimately see her depart the promotion when her contract expired due to it not being renewed, and her subsequently suing Ring of Honor and Sinclair Broadcasting. Due to separate issues in her personally life that more than likely killed any chance she had of going to AEW, to date Klein's match with Austin was not only her last in Ring of Honor, but (according to Cagematch) her last match period in pro wrestling. Additionally, the match would be final one ever for Women of Honor World Championship. With Klein not making any further defenses, the title was retired when she departed the company on January 1, 2017, with Ring of Honor eventually replacing it with the ROH Women's World Championship.

Today in Ring of Honor History: October 27 - 2006: Ring of Honor held "Suffocation" in Dayton, OH. The show was named after the post-match angle of the main event grudge match pitting Homicide and Samoa Joe against Steve Corino and Adam Pearce. During a beatdown following the conclusion of the match, Corino tried to kill Homicide by placing a plastic bag over his head in an attempt to suffocate him. Making the act even more heinous was the fact that Corino was acting on the orders of the person responsible for ensuring the wrestlers safety, ROH Commissioner Jim Cornette. Set to face Samoa Joe in an "Anything Goes" match the next day, ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson opted for an easy night, wrestling a non-title match against Sal Rinauro. ROH World Tag Team Champions Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli decided to go solo for the evening, with Castagnoli facing former champion Austin Aries in a grudge match, while Hero participated in a Four Corner Survival match against Mark Briscoe, Roderick Strong, and the man who would be his personal fitness trainer in Sweet n' Sour, Inc., the debuting Tank Toland. Toland would not be the only one to debut that night, as the former "Gunner Scott" Brent Albright wrestled his first match in ROH, competing in a singles match against Christopher Daniels. Additionally, Dragon Gate wrestler Shingo began his six month Ring of Honor excursion, kicking things off with a win over Jimmy Rave. Longtime rivals Delirious and Matt Sydal met in a rematch from the finals of "Survival of the Fittest 2006" [10/6/06]. After three failed attempts in tag team match, Davey Richards finally picked up a win over Jay Briscoe when they met in a singles match. And Irish Airborne had the biggest win of their ROH careers, besting the team of Colt Cabana and Jimmy Jacobs. The loss would bring about a change in Cabana's feeling towards Lacey, as he took exception to her treatment of Jacobs after she began berating him for losing. - 2018: ROH was out at sea for night one of "Chris Jericho's Rock 'N' Wrestling Rager at Sea". The bulk of the show was dedicated to the Sea of Honor Tournament, with all eight opening round matches taking place: Adam Page versus ROH World Tag Team Champion Frankie Kazarian, Beer City Bruiser versus Cheeseburger, Christopher Daniels versus Delirious, Dalton Castle versus Matt Taven, Flip Gordon versus Silas Young, Jay Briscoe versus Kenny King, Mark Briscoe versus Will Ferrara, and Marty Scurll versus Rhett Titus. In non-tournament action, Brandi Rhodes faced Jenny Rose in a match guest refereed by Mandy Leon, while the main event saw Ring of Honor take on Impact Wrestling when ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks squared off with Impact World Tag Team Champions LAX. - 2019: ROH closed out the "Honor United 2019" tour in Bolton, England. To date, the show was both Ring of Honor's last to take place in the United Kingdom, and the last to take place outside the United States. After two straight nights of teaming together, the main event now found ROH World Champion Rush and Jeff Cobb facing off against each other, with Cobb challenging for the title. Shane Taylor made his third defense of the ROH World Television Championship on the tour, this time in a Four Corner Survival match against Matt Taven and LifeBlood members Mark Haskins and Tracy Williams. ROH World Tag Team Champions The Briscoes were once again in non-title action, wrestling in a Three-Way Tag Team match against the duo of Kenny King and Hikuleo and the Brat Pack. Villain Enterprises had a successful, if not entirely ideal, night, with ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champion Marty Scurll and Flip Gordon teaming up to defeat Kyle Fletcher and Lucky Kid, while co-Six-Man Champion PCO won via disqualification in a singles match against Jay Lethal. After Rampage Brown interrupted Joe Hendry's singles match against Silas Young, Hendry teamed with his odd couple partner Dalton Castle in a tag match against Young and Brown. Popular indy wrestler "Speedball" Mike Bailey made his one and only Ring of Honor appearance, facing Flamita. And Mandy Leon took on Scottish wrestler Molly Spartan. - 2021: The professional wrestling world was shocked by the sudden announcement that Ring of Honor would be going on hiatus after "Final Battle 2021" [12/11/21] and would be reconceptualized, not holding any events until "Supercard of Honor" in April 2022. Complicating things further was the added news that ROH had released all their wrestlers from their contracts and they were now free to sign with other promotions. It would emerge over the next few days that ROH's parent company Sinclair Broadcasting was in significant debt after some of their other ventures didn't pan out as expected, leading to rampant speculation of whether Ring of Honor would return at all or if it was in fact shutting down for good. That speculation would continue until March 2, when Tony Khan announced on AEW's Dynamite that he had purchased Ring of Honor. Carrying on with the wrestling part of wrestling, on Women's Division Wednesday The Allure challenged Allysin Kay and Marti Belle for the NWA World Women's Tag Team Championship. - PWInsider's initial report: www.pwinsider.com/article/152264/ring-of-honor-to-make-changes-to-business-operations-no-live-events-after-final-battle-ppv-until-at-least-april-2022.html?p=1- PWInsider's update: www.pwinsider.com/article/152267/more-on-todays-ring-of-honor-announcement-including-what-it-means-for-rohs-signed-talents-and-tv-series.html?p=1&fbclid=IwAR0QIW9_jT_AsxP8K27NNeddOhdQD33GslsQcF5Tlx56A_1Tt6a-7qtgD3M- PWInsider's interview with ROH COO Joe Koff: www.pwinsider.com/ViewArticle.php?id=152293&p=2
