 Today in Ring of Honor History: July 21- 2018: Ring of Honor held a television taping in Atlanta, GA. After losing their two previous hard fought matches ["Honor Reigns Supreme 2018" - 2/9/18; "Masters of the Craft 2018" - 4/15/18], Jonathan Gresham wanted one more chance to prove he could beat Jay Lethal, challenging the new ROH World Champion for the title in a Two out of Three Falls match. Bullet Club's Cody and The Young Bucks went all in against The Kingdom, defeating them to become the new ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions. The Addiction, in need of championship gold to remain in Ring of Honor once their contracts expired, wrestled ROH World Tag Team Champions the Briscoes in singles matches, with Christopher Daniels taking on Jay Briscoe while Frankie Kazarian faced Mark Briscoe. Sumie Sakai added another successful defense of the WOH World Championship to her record, retaining it against Madison Rayne. After his match the night before ended in the manhandling of his family jewels, Chuck Taylor teamed with his Best Friend Beretta to once again face Bully Ray, who was joined by Silas Young. Young pulled double duty on the tapings, first facing Flip Gordon. Chris Sabin wrestled Scorpio Sky, Josh Woods took on Shane Taylor, and Karen Q squared off with Jenny Rose. And ROH's attempts to hold a 2018 Top Prospects Tournament didn't turn out great for the participants, as the debuting Jeff Cobb decimated every competitor he came across, effectively putting an end to the tournament. - 2019: Ring of Honor held "Mass Hysteria" in Lowell, MA. The Briscoes successfully made the first defense in their eleventh reign as ROH World Tag Team Championship, retaining against The Bouncers. Likewise ROH World Television Champion Shane Taylor added another "W" to his championship record, retaining against Eli Isom. After spending a year working towards his post-wrestling career of being a physical therapist, Alex Shelley returned to in-ring competition, teaming with Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham in a Six-Man Tag Team match against ROH World Champion Matt Taven and The Kingdom. Dalton Castle, now with a different attitude, looked to avenge his fifteen-second loss to Rush at "G1 Supercard" [4/6/19] when they finally faced in a rematch. After scoring the victory the night before, LifeBlood was now on the losing end against Villain Enterprises when Bandido and Mark Haskins fell to Marty Scurll and PCO. Future ROH World Tag Team Champions Dragon Lee and Kenny King had their first meeting in Ring of Honor, facing each other in a singles match. Tasha Steelz won a Three-Way match over Angelina Love and Karissa Rivera, PJ Black took on Silas Young, and Christian Casanova (a.k.a. NXT North American Champion Carmelo Hayes) wrested Jimmy Preston. And the 2019 Top Prospect Tournament kicked off with Dante Caballero and Joe Keys meeting in the first opening round match. |

 Today in Ring of Honor History: July 22- 2010: Ring of Honor held "Bluegrass Brawl" in Louisville, KY. The show had Jim Cornette's fingerprints all over it, in that the title was the name of an annual event in Cornette's Smoky Mountain Wrestling, and it was held in the Davis Arena, the home of Cornette's former promotion Ohio Valley Wrestling. The Briscoes once against took on The American Wolves, with their main event encounter being the last match the two teams would have against each other for two and a half years. ROH World Champion Tyler Black wrestled on ROH World Tag Team Champion Claudio Castagnoli in a non-title match, while the other half of the Tag Champs, Chris Hero, lost his #4 spot in the Pick 6 Contenders Series to Colt Cabana. With ROH quietly abandoning the Pick 6 not long after, Cabana became the last wrestler to earn a spot in it. Roderick Strong led The House of Truth to victory in a Six-Man Tag Team match against Austin Aries and The All-Night Express. Former Spirit Squad member and longtime OVW wrestler Mike Mondo made ROH debut/return, taking on Delirious [Mondo technically debuted at "The Battle Lines Are Drawn" (1/10/04) in what was coincidentally billed as a try-out for OVW, but the match was cut from the DVD release]. And Daizee Haze and Sara Del Rey, longtime rivals and the only two resident female wrestlers on the roster, once again squared off with each other. Being in the home of Ohio Valley Wresting, the show also featured two OVW showcase matches. Adam Revolver and Ted McNaler became the first team to go by "The Elite" in Ring of Honor, defending the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship against Fang and Sucio. And Beef Wellington (the OVW one, not the IWS one) took on Paredyse. |

 Today in Ring of Honor History: July 23- 2004: Ring of Honor held "Death Before Dishonor 2: Part One" in Wauwatosa, WI. The Briscoe Brothers wrestled for the ROH Tag Team Championship for the last time in their initial run, taking on the Second City Saints in a Two out of Three Falls rematch [Punk & Cabana: 3, Briscoes: 0 - who really is the best tag team ROH history]. After three failed attempts, Homicide was given one last shot to defeat Samoa Joe for the ROH World Championship, or else be barred from challenging for the remainder of Joe's reign. Doug Williams made his first defense of the ROH Pure Championship, facing Alex Shelley in a rematch of their tournament finale at "Reborn: Completion" [7/17/04]. The now-heel Low Ki teamed with fellow Rottweiler Ricky Reyes to take on his former friend Dan Maff and BJ Whitmer. Ricky Steamboat coached Matt Stryker, John Walters and Jimmy Jacobs to victory in a Six-Man Tag Team match over Generation Next, who made their presence known earlier in the night by threatening local wrestling legend Baron von Raschke. Trent Acid won a Four Corner Survival match over Ace Steel, Delirious and Matt Sydal, starting his push to being dubbed "The King of the Multi-Man Matches" [which is still one of the dumbest titles in wrestling history]. Chad Collyer took on Danny Daniels, and Shawn Daivari faced returning All Japan wrestler The Great Kazushi (Kazushi Miyamoto) ["Final Battle 2003" - 12/27/03]. - 2005: ROH held "The Homecoming" in Philadelphia, PA. The show featured Christopher Daniels and AJ Styles' first Ring of Honor appearances in ROH's hometown of Philadelphia since "Final Battle 2003" [12/27/03]. In the main event, Daniels challenged CM Punk for the ROH World Championship, wrestling him to the limit in a one hour draw. Styles, meanwhile, took on his former protégé turned enemy Jimmy Rave in a Street Fight. After seven months of looking for an ally, Alex Shelley no longer had to go it alone in his war with Generation Next, having sold out bought in and joined The Embassy. Also on the show, Prince Nana took his treatment of Jade Chung to a new low, forcing her to cover up her body as well as being dragged around on a leash. Following a two week run, the Carnage Crew's ("thank you") reign as ROH Tag Team Champions came to an end when BJ Whitmer and Jimmy Jacobs defeated them in a rematch to reclaim the titles. ROH Pure Champion Samoa Joe and his protégé Jay Lethal teamed up with James Gibson to face common enemies The Rottweilers in a Six-Man Tag Team match. Spanky won a Four Corner Survival match over Azrieal, Deranged and Nigel McGuinness. Kevin Steen and El Generico faced each other for the first time in Ring of Honor [which was cut from the DVD of the show, before finally being released seven years later as part of the "Kevin Steen: Ascension to the Top" compilation]. And Pelle Primeau and Bobby Dempsey made their pro wrestling debuts. - 2010: ROH held "Hate: Chapter II" in Collinsville, IL. The show was named after former friends turned bitter enemies Kevin Steen and El Generico, who faced each other in a rematch from "Death Before Dishonor VIII" [6/19/10]. In the main event, Awesome Kong returned to continue her feud with Sara Del Rey, teaming with The Briscoes in a Six-Man Tag Team match against Del Rey and the ROH World Tag Team Champions the Kings of Wrestling. Also competing in a Six-Man Tag was ROH World Champion Tyler Black, who teamed with Jerry Lynn and Delirious to take on Austin Aries and The All-Night Express. That match marked the last ever meeting between Aries and Black, who had wrestled thirty-eight matches against each other in three years. After six months in TNA, The Young Bucks made a one-weekend return under their "Generation Me" personas, facing off against The American Wolves. Colt Cabana wrestled Roderick Strong in what was shockingly their first ever singles match against each other in Ring of Honor. Grizzly Redwood took on The Embassy's Erick Stevens in a grudge match, and The House of Truth faced the Bravado Brothers. - 2021: Ring of Honor aired their latest episode of television from Baltimore, MD. The saga between former ROH World Champion Dalton Castle and rising stars Dak Draper and Eli Isom continued in a Three-Way match. PCO took on Sledge, and World Famous CB wrestled Flip Gordon. |

 Today in Ring of Honor History: July 24- 2004: Ring of Honor held "Death Before Dishonor 2: Part Two" in Chicago Ridge, IL. The show saw hometown heroes the Second City Saints in prominent roles, with Colt Cabana challenging Samoa Joe for the ROH World Championship, while CM Punk and Ace Steel took on Dan Maff and BJ Whitmer in a Street Fight to end their seven month long feud. After successfully retaining against Alex Shelley the night before, Doug Williams was once again defending the ROH Pure Championship against a member of Generation Next, Austin Aries. Alex Shelley, meanwhile, wrestled a grudge match against his former tag team partner Jimmy Jacobs, while Roderick Strong and Jack Evans took on the Ricky Steamboat-backed Matt Stryker and John Walters. The feud between the Briscoe Brothers and The Rottweilers continued with Jay Briscoe facing Homicide in a rematch from "Survival of the Fittest" [6/24/04], while Mark Briscoe went one-on-one with Low Ki. Fellow Rottweilers member Rocky Romero wrestled his first singles match in ROH, going up against Chad Collyer. And Trent Acid continued his push towards becoming "the king of the multi-man matches", winning a Six Man Mayhem over Danny Daniels, Delirious, The Great Kazushi, Matt Sydal, and Shawn Daivari (who was making his final appearance before signing with WWE). - 2009: ROH held "Death Before Dishonor VII: Night One" in Toronto, ON. Austin Aries defended the ROH World Championship in a Four Corner Survival match against two former and one future ROH World Champions, Jerry Lynn, Nigel McGuinness and Tyler Black. That match marked the last time Lynn or McGuinness ever wrestled for the belt. Lance Storm made his return to Ring of Honor after a three-year absence to face Chris Hero on back-to-back nights. On night one, Storm teamed with fellow Canadian Kevin Steen to take on Hero and Steen's rival, ROH World Tag Team Champion Davey Richards. The on-going saga of The Embassy saw Colt Cabana, Brent Albright, Necro Butcher and Grizzly Redwood unite in an Eight-Man Tag Team Elimination match against Jimmy Rave, Bison Smith, Joey Ryan and Claudio Castagnoli. The great Kenny rivalry was coming to a close, as Kenny Omega and Kenny King wrestled their last singles match against each other. The Briscoes faced off with The Super Smash Bros. in the only tradition tag match the two teams have ever had against each other. El Generico squared off with Sonjay Dutt, and D-Lo Brown took on Franky the Mobster. And wrestling legend and Canadian hero Bret "Hitman" Hart made his first appearance in Ring of Honor. - 2010: ROH held "Salvation" in Chicago Ridge, IL. Much of the focus of the night was on tag team wrestling, specifically Tag Wars 2010, with four opening round matches being held: The All Night Express versus Jerry Lynn and Delirious, The American Wolves versus Colt Cabana and El Generico, The Briscoes versus The House of Truth, and The Embassy versus Rasche Brown and Grizzly Redwood. Lynn and Brown's matches ended up being their last in their respective Ring of Honor runs. Former ROH World Champion Jerry Lynn's time was up in the promotion, with him returning to TNA the following month. Rasche Brown, on the other hand, was booking for the next round of HDNet tapings on the weekend of August 20, but failed to show after missing his flight, which wasn't the first time that had happened (in Colt Cabana's "Wrestling Road Diaries", Brown tells Cabana at the 9/11/09 HDNet taping that it took him 22 hours to get to the show after he missed the flight ROH booked for him). ROH officials cancelled Browns bookings for their next two show ["Champions' Challenge" - 8/27/10; "Tag Wars 2010" - 8/28/10] as a consequence of him missing the taping; Brown, who had originally offered to work the two shows for free as a make-good, responded to the cancellations by quitting Ring of Honor. In the only non-Tag Wars tag team match, the former Young Bucks closed out their one-weekend return from TNA with a non-title match against ROH World Tag Team Champions the Kings of Wrestling. In singles action, Kevin Steen received his first shot at the ROH World Championship in close to two years ["The French Connection" - 11/7/08], challenging Tyler Black for the title. Amazing Kong took on Sara Del Rey in a rematch from "Supercard of Honor V" [5/8/10]. And former friends turned longtime rivals Austin Aries and Roderick Strong wrestled what ended up being their last ever match against each other. Aries also got to work in some light crossdressing on the show, attempting to play mind games with Delirious by wearing Daizee Haze's ring gear after kidnapping her the night before. - 2015: ROH held "Death Before Dishonor XIII" in Baltimore, MD. ROH World Television Champion Jay Lethal made the first defense of his recently won ROH World Championship, taking on Roderick Strong. Despite being the TV Champion for well over a year, Lethal's World title reign did not start off in dominant fashion, as Strong took him to the limit with a one hour draw. The Addiction, meanwhile, proved to be more formidable champions, fighting off The Kingdom, reDRagon and War Machine in a Four-Way Tag match to retain the ROH World Tag Team Championship. The Briscoes took on Roppongi Vice in the only traditional tag match the two teams ever had. In a first ever meeting, rising star Dalton Castle squared off with former ROH World Champion Adam Cole. The feud between ACH and The Decade came to an end, with Adam Page taking on ACH in a No Disqualification match. Veda Scott led Cedric Alexander to victory in a grudge match against her former client Moose. And Silas Young looked to have a good night after a victory over Will Ferrara, but ended up having an embarrassing one when The Boys made an ass out of him. - 2021: At MCW's "Resurrection 2021" in Joppa, MD, Shane Taylor Promotions defended the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship against Black Wallstreet. The match later aired on Ring of Honor's Week by Week. |

 Today in Ring of Honor History: July 25- 2008: Ring of Honor headed north of the border for the first time for "Northern Navigation" in Toronto, ON. For ROH's debut show in Canada, Ring of Honor selected their resident Canadian Kevin Steen to challenge Nigel McGuinness for the ROH World Championship. However, Steen's third attempt at defeating McGuinness for the World title was not the main event of the show, as that spot went to Austin Aries and Jay Briscoe once again teaming up against their hated common enemies ROH World Tag Team Champions The Age of the Fall, facing them in a non-title No Disqualification match. Naomichi Marufuji made the trip over from Pro Wrestling NOAH to wrestle Roderick Strong in the only singles match the two ever had with each other. It took ROH three years to book the first match between Bryan Danielson and Claudio Castagnoli ["Vendetta II" - 6/28/08], but only one month to book the rematch, this time with Danielson coming out on top. Chris Hero of Sweet n' Sour, Inc. took on The Vulture Squad's Ruckus, while Go Shiozaki wrestled Erick Stevens to a time limit draw, and Sara Del Rey made short work of Canadian wrestler Jennifer Blake. Speaking of Canadians, Kenny Omega made his Ring of Honor debut, taking on Delirious. And Lance Storm, also Canadian, made a special guest apperance on the show. - 2009: One year after their debut in Canada, ROH was back in Toronto, ON for "Death Before Dishonor VII: Night Two". Lance Storm finished out his Ring of Honor weekend with a singles match against Chris Hero. The Briscoes teamed up with Kenny Omega for a Six-Man Tag Team match against ROH World Champion Austin Aries, Rhett Titus and Kenny King, a match which brought to an end the Kenny/Kenny rivalry. ROH World Tag Team Champion Davey Richards won a future shot at the ROH World Championship by outlasting D-Lo Brown, Jerry Lynn, Jimmy Rave, Necro Butcher and Sonjay Dutt to win the "Toronto Gauntlet". Prince Nana had a busy night, as in addition to seconding Rave in the Gauntlet match, Nana was right there ringside as Joey Ryan took on Colt Cabana in a No Disqualification match, Claudio Castagnoli faced Brent Albright in a European Rules match, and big man Bison Smith fought big man Franky the Mobster in a regular match. Tyler Black took on Tyson Dux, Kevin Steen and El Generico wrestled The Super Smash Bros. for the first time in Ring of Honor, and Ric Flair showed up to talk about his three favorite things: himself, women, and "Wooo"'s [okay, I think this time it actually was his final appearance]. - 2015: Ring of Honor closed out their Death Before Dishonor weekend with a television taping in Baltimore, MD. After being taken to the limit the night before in his ROH World Championship defense, Jay Lethal proved to be more successful in defending the ROH World Television Championship, retaining it by defeating his opponent, Hanson. Lethal's challenger from the night before, Roderick Strong, also proved more successful tonight, defeating House of Truth member Donovan Dijak. On the outs with The Kingdom, Adam Cole officially teamed with Kyle O'Reilly as Future Shock for the first time in ROH in two and a half years, challenging The Addiction for the ROH World Tag Team Championship (making this only the second time Cole & O'Reilly got a shot at the tag titles together). O'Reilly pulled double duty on the tapings, first teaming with his reDRagon partner Bobby Fish against Cole's former friends The Kingdom. Having finished his feud with ACH, Adam Page started a new feud with Jay Briscoe. The Young Bucks wrestled Roppongi Vice in a rematch from "Aftershock Tour 2015: Las Vegas, NV" [7/17/15]. The increasingly cocky Cedric Alexander took on his former partner Caprice Coleman. ACH wrestled Takaaki Watanabe, Dalton Castle continued his feud with Silas Young in a singles match, and former Brutal Burgers partners Cheeseburger and Brutal Bob Evans met in a grudge match. And the newly revamped Women of Honor saw Mandy Leon and Deonna Purrazzo faced each other in their respective ROH in-ring debuts. |

 Today in Ring of Honor History: July 26- 2008: Ring of Honor taped "New Horizons" for pay-per-view in Detroit, MI. After his loss at "A New Level" [5/10/08], Claudio Castagnoli received another shot at Nigel McGuinness, challenging him for the ROH World Championship. In a questionable booking decision to boost interest in the match, one week before the show Castagnoli suddenly announced that if he failed to defeat McGuinness for the belt, he may leave Ring of Honor as there is nothing left for him. Well, he didn't win, and he didn't leave, which turned fans against Claudio [especially in New York City when ROH returned for "Death Before Dishonor VI" on August 2]. Personal issues took priority over championship responsibilities, and for the first time since Ring of Honor started running pay-per-views over a year earlier, the ROH World Tag Team Championship was not defended as The Age of the Fall chose to deal with separate issues. In the "main event" of the PPV, Tyler Black once again unsuccessfully tried to defeat Bryan Danielson in a singles match. The actual main event of the pay-per-view wasn’t a match at all, but a prolonged brawl between Jimmy Jacobs and his hated enemy Austin Aries. Part of the reason The Age of the Fall refused to defend the titles was because they deemed there weren't any credible contenders for the belts, but that night the then-five time ROH World Tag Team Champion Mark Briscoe made his return from injury ["Return Engagement" - 4/19/08] to team with his brother Jay Briscoe in a quick win over Mitch Franklin and Silas Young, before demanding to know when they're gettin' their damn belts back. Also wondering when he and his partner would get a well-deserved title shot was Kevin Steen, who instead of facing Jacobs and Black had to settle for taking on Age of the Fall member Necro Butcher in a No Disqualification rematch of their "Boston Massacre" showdown ["Bedlam in Beantown" - 4/11/08]. Lance Storm was on hand to make sure Larry Sweeney and Sweet n' Sour, Inc. didn't interfere in Roderick Strong and Naomichi Marufuji's match against Chris Hero and Go Shiozaki. New FIP World Heavyweight Champion Erick Stevens won a Four Corner Survival match over Delirious, Ruckus and Shane Hagadorn. And Brent Albright and NWA World Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce had to engage in a battle of promos, as they were not at the show in person. In the DVD-exclusive portion of the show, Silas Young pulled double duty, defeating newcomer Kenny Omega. Also pulling double duty were several wrestlers participating in the first ever Honor Rumble, such as The Briscoes, Delirious, Necro Butcher, and the eventual winner Ruckus, who won after last eliminating ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness. Also participating in the Rumble was Bushwhacker Luke, who apparently didn't learn anything in his record-setting elimination in the 1991 Royal Rumble. |

 Today in Ring of Honor History: July 27- 2002: Ring of Honor held "Crowning a Champion" in Philadelphia, PA. As the title suggests, the main event of the show determined who would be the first holder of the new ROH Championship. To determine the champion, the four winners from "Road to the Title" [6/22/02], Christopher Daniels, Doug Williams, Low Ki and Spanky, competed in a Four-Way 60-minute Iron Man match, with Low Ki walking away as the inaugural ROH Champion. The match added further fuel to Daniels' "Ring of Honor is screwing me" attitude, as in addition to being the only wrestler in the match that was neither pinned nor submitted, he also pinned Low Ki [only time he ever did it in ROH], yet still lost. Low Ki wasn't the only recently crowned first-ever champion on the show, as the inaugural NWA-TNA X Champion AJ Styles defended his recently won title against Adam Jacobs and David Young, both from Styles then-home promotion of NWA Wildside. After attacking Loc at "The Era of Honor Begins" [2/23/02] when he was still just a referee, the Natural Born Sinners had to now face him as a wrestler in their first (an only) match against the Carnage Crew, taking them in on in Ring of Honor's first ever hardcore match, a Bunkhouse Brawl. Following their brief meeting in the Heartbreak Gauntlet at "Night of Appreciation" [4/27/02], the feud between Paul London and Michael Shane kicked off in earnest when London was arguably screwed out of winning a Ring of Honor contract in a tag team match against the now heel Shane. With a win over Tony Mamaluke at "Night of Appreciation", Jay Briscoe tried his hand at the other former member of the F.B.I., James Maritato (a.k.a. Little Guido), but came up short. Jay's loss in the match was of particular enjoyment to his brother Mark Briscoe, whose jealousy and resentment for not being allowed to wrestle in Pennsylvania due to being underage was becoming more and more apparent with each show. Da Hit Squad took on Divine Storm in a match that was born out the massive tag team brawl at "Road to the Title". Xavier and Scoot Andrews met in a rematch from "The Era of Honor Begins", Alexis Laree (a.k.a. Mickie James) made her Ring of Honor debut seconding Christian York and Joey Matthews in their match against Prince Nana and Jacob Ladder, and Special K officially began when Brian XL and the debuting Dixie turned on their partner in a Six-Man Tag Team match. - 2007: ROH held "Race to the Top Tournament: Night One" in Deer Park, NY. The show kicked off a two-night sixteen-man tournament, with no real goal other than to further build up new main event wrestlers as they were still in rebuilding mode from losing most of their top talent earlier in the year. Night one featured all eight first round matches: BJ Whitmer vs. Pelle Primeau; Brent Albright vs. The Resilience's Matt Cross; Sweet n' Sour, Inc.'s Chris Hero vs. The Resilience's Erick Stevens; Claudio Castagnoli vs. Hallowicked; No Remorse Corps' Davey Richards vs. Jigsaw; Delirious vs. El Generico; Jack Evans vs. Kevin Steen; and Sweet n' Sour, Inc.'s Matt Sydal vs. Mike Quackenbush. In non-tournament action, rivals Bryan Danielson and Nigel McGuinness teamed up for a second ["United We Stand" - 6/22/07] and final time in Ring of Honor, challenging The Briscoes for the ROH World Tag Team Championship. And Roderick Strong defended the FIP World Heavyweight Championship in a Four-Way Fray against Austin Aries, Gran Akuma and Jimmy Rave. That match was Aries' first match back after leaving TNA, as well as Rave's last match in his inaugural ROH run, as months of growing frustrations reached a breaking point when he suffered an ear injury in the match, resulting in him asking for his release as the show was still going on. - 2013: ROH held a television taping in Providence, RI. Exactly eleven years after crowning of the first ROH Champion, Ring of Honor kicked a sixteen-man tournament to crown a new ROH World Championship after the title had been declared vacated for the first time in history on July 3 following the injury of then-champion Jay Briscoe. Adam Cole took his first step to becoming the eventual new champion, defeating the returning Mark Briscoe in an opening round match [which caused some fans to question why Ring of Honor was having the tournament, as the double injury angle was a means of writing out the Briscoes as it looked like they were heading to WWE, but was now evident they were staying in ROH]. Karl Anderson took a break from New Japan to compete in the tournament, squaring off with ACH in a first round match. Jay Lethal met Sonjay Dutt in the third opening round match of the tapings, while Silas Young qualified for the tournament by defeating Adam Page and QT Marshall in a Three-Way match. reDRagon's first reign as ROH World Tag Team Champions came to a shocking end, as New Japan's Forever Hooligans defeated them for the belts in what many thought was just a one-off encounter as it was originally advertised as a Proving Ground match. Future ROH World Tag Team Champion Todd Hanson made his Ring of Honor debut, taking on future multi-time ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champion Vinny Marseglia in a Four Corner Survival match with Kongo and eventual winner Brian Fury. Fury would go on to unsuccessfully challenge Matt Taven for the ROH World Television Championship later in the tapings. Kevin Steen teamed with Michael Elgin and Tommaso Ciampa in a Six-Man Tag Team match against The American Wolves and BJ Whitmer. That match marked the last time longtime rivals Steen and Davey Richards ever wrestled against each other. Michael Bennett took on his trainer and former manager Brutal Bob Evans, Adrenaline RUSH faced popular CHIKARA tag team 3.0, and MsChif squared off with Jessie Brooks. - 2014: ROH presented "Future of Honor #2" in Laurel, DE. Taking place in the hometown of The Briscoes, naturally dem boys' family was rolling in full force. After Jay Briscoe's match against Jay Lethal for the ROH World Television Championship ended in a disqualification, he teamed with his brother Mark Briscoe and "Big Man" Papa Briscoe, along with a rookie named Moose and back up by Uncle Jethro, to take on Lethal, Adam Cole, ROH World Tag Team Champion Bobby Fish and J. Diesel in an Eight-Man Tag Team match. In addition to Moose, the show saw appearances by several future members of the Ring of Honor roster. Future ROH World Champion Dalton Castle took part in a Gauntlet match against Bobby Fish. Eventual 2015 Top Prospect winner Donovan Dijak wrestled Moose and Stokely Hathaway in a back-to-back matches. Will Ferrara and his Team Benchmark partner Bill Daly joined with Matt Sells in defeating Johnny Knockout and The Pain Killers in a Six-Man Tag Team match. And following their first encounter at "Future of Honor #1" [4/18/14], Mandy Leon teamed with Hania the Howling Huntress against Jenny Rose and her partner Veda Scott. - 2021: On Week by Week, Brian Milonas took on Joe Keys in a Pure Rules match. |

 Today in Ring of Honor History: July 28- 2006: Ring of Honor held "War of the Wire II" in Dayton, OH. Despite ending the feud with Combat Zone Wrestling at "Death Before Dishonor IV" [7/15/06], the war with CZW was not over, as Necro Butcher returned one last time to face BJ Whitmer in ROH's second (and last) No Rope Barbed Wire match. Necro didn't come alone, with Claudio Castagnoli and Nate Webb tagging along to once again attempt to disrupt the show, because why not [Gabe Sapolsky did a lot of great booking in this time period, but for some reason he repeatedly had a problem of letting big feuds end on their climax]. Whitmer didn't come alone either, having Homicide, who competed in ROH's first No Rope Barbed Wire match ["War of the Wire" - 11/29/03], in his corner. ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson found himself the belle of the ball for all the wrong reasons, competing in a Four Corner Survival match against longtime rival ROH World Tag Team Champion Austin Aries, renewed rival Homicide, and new rival Delirious. Additionally, former ROH World Champion Samoa Joe, who was not at the show thanks to Danielson attacking him at "Death Before Dishonor IV", sent word that he was training for their World title showdown at "Fight of the Century" [8/5/06]. ROH Pure Champion Nigel McGuinness and Colt Cabana reignited their 2005 feud for one night only, with Cabana challenging for the title…as well as dodging Nigel's questions about who Colt was hooking up with earlier in the car. Jack Evans returned after a four month tour of Dragon Gate, teaming with ROH World Tag Team Champion Roderick Strong in a grudge match against The Briscoes. Christopher Daniels and Matt Sydal had what felt like their 27th singles match of the year, with Sydal finally getting the big win. Following the match, Daniels proposed forming a tag team together [due to Sydal's regular partner AJ Styles having one foot out the door thanks to TNA]. And the rivalry between Davey Richards and Jimmy Rave continued in tag team action, with Richards teaming with FIP wrestler Jerrelle Clark to defeat Rave and The Embassy's newest member, Sal Rinauro. - 2007: ROH held "Race to the Top Tournament: Night Two" in Edison, NJ. After defeating Hallowicked the night before, Claudio Castagnoli went through frequent CHIKARA rival Mike Quackenbush, high flyer Jack Evans, and finally "The Generic Luchador Who Could" El Generico to win the first and only Race to the Top tournament. Generico, meanwhile, advanced to the finals with wins over Chris Hero and Davey Richards. In non-tournament action, Bryan Danielson led his team of Austin Aries, ROH World Tag Team Champion Jay Briscoe and Sweet n' Sour, Inc.'s Matt Sydal to victory over Nigel McGuinness' team of FIP World Heavyweight Champion Roderick Strong, ROH World Tag Team Champion Mark Briscoe, and Delirious in an Eight-Man Tag Team match. The decision to have bitter enemies Delirious and Strong on the same team was a costly one for McGuinness, literally, as the match was for $10,000. And thanks to the help if he Resilience teammate Matt Cross, Erick Stevens came out on top in a Six Man Mayhem match against BJ Whitmer, Hallowicked, Jigsaw and Kevin Steen. The highlight of the show, though, were the antics of Sweet n' Sour, Inc., whose efforts to make Bobby Dempsey lose weight saw him locked up for hours in Tank Toland's Hot Box-O-Doom (featuring a cameo appearance by Bobby's brother Derek Dempsey in a one night return). |

The $10,000 tag team challenge match is probably one of the most underrated matches of all time. It's absolute glorious fun from start to finish, with the A+ story of Nigel McGuinness's counterpick strategy having no legs in the face of a team of elite wrestlers with the added twist of the Briscoes just bailing because they'd rather drink than get the check. Easily one of the best live wrestling experiences I've ever had.

 Today in Ring of Honor History: July 29- 2006: Ring of Honor held "Generation Now" in Cleveland, OH. The show was named after Austin Aries, Roderick Strong, Jack Evans and Matt Sydal, who were teaming together as Generation Next one last time to face ROH rookies Davey Richards, Jerrelle Clark and Irish Airborne. That match was not the main event, however, as that spot went to ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson vs. ROH Pure Champion Nigel McGuinness II. After McGuinness won their Title vs. Title match by count out on the last Cleveland show ["Weekend of Champions: Night One" - 4/29/06], he was a granted a rematch, this time with only the World title on the line. Christian Cage returned for his second and final appearance, taking on Christopher Daniels in a match born out of their tag team encounter at "How We Roll" [5/12/06]. In a revival of a former feud and a preview of a future feud, Mark Briscoe took on Homicide in a continuation of the Briscoes/Rottweilers feud from 2004, while Jay Briscoe took on future Age of the Fall leader Jimmy Jacobs for the first time ever. In an effort to win the affections of Lacey, as he heard rumors she was in a car that was a rockin', Jacobs treated her (and the fans) to a live performance of "The Ballad of Lacey" before his match. And in addition to Generation Next teaming up one last time, the Second City Saints teamed together one last time in Ring of Honor, as Colt Cabana and Ace Steel faced The Embassy. - 2017: ROH held a television taping in Concord, NC. The show was Bullet Club heavy, with BC main eventing three of the four episodes. In Episode #308, Marty Scurll and Adam Page ruined the ROH World Television Championship match between KUSHIDA and Kenny King, resulting in champion and challenger uniting for an impromptu tag team match. In #310, The Young Bucks defended the ROH World Tag Team Championship against their longtime rivals the Motor City Machine Guns. And in #311, Page was back in the main event, teaming with ROH World Champion Cody against Bully Ray and Mark Briscoe. #309 was the lone episode with no Bullet Club involvement, and saw Dalton Castle and The Boys make their first defense of the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship, taking on Colt Cabana and The Tempura Boyz. Jay Lethal's feud with Silas Young found him ending up fighting Beer City Bruiser in a No Disqualification match. Jay Briscoe took on Matt Taven in the second of two singles matches they've ever had against each other (which is a little odd, as this match ended with Jay being the recipient of a good ol' fashioned Kingdom beatdown). Will Ferrara cost his former friend and tag team partner Cheeseburger a match against Rhett Titus, laying the groundwork for the formation of The Dawgs. Search and Destroy's Jay White and Jonathan Gresham took on War Machine, Best Friends faced Coast to Coast, Josh Woods wrestled Shane Taylor, and Flip Gordon squared off with the slightly taller Punishment Martinez. And Caprice Coleman hosted the first edition of Coleman's Pulpit with special guests The Addiction. |

 Today in Ring of Honor History: July 30- 2021: Ring of Honor aired their latest episode of television from Baltimore, MD. The show saw the start of a fifteen-person * tournament to crown the first holder of the new ROH Women's World Championship [* Angelina Love received a bye in the first round, bringing the total competitors down to fifteen]. Rok-C [NXT's Roxanne Perez] took her first step towards becoming the inaugural champion by defeating Sumie Sakai, who was the inaugural Women of Honor World Champion. In the other first round matches on the show, Alex Gracia took on Miranda Alize, and Mazzerati faced Nicole Savoy. |

 Today in Ring of Honor History: August 1- 2008: Ring of Honor held "Fueling the Fire" in Manassas, VA. After winning the first ever Honor Rumble ["New Horizons" - 7/26/08], Ruckus received his shot at the ROH World Championship, challenging Nigel McGuinness. The Age of the Fall defended the ROH World Tag Team Championship against Sweet n' Sour, Inc.'s Go Shiozaki, who teamed up with fellow Pro Wrestling NOAH wrestler Naomichi Marufuji. All in all it was an unsuccessful night for Sweet n' Sour, Inc., going 0-3 for the evening. In addition to Shiozaki coming up short in the Tag title match, Chris Hero fell to Brent Albright, while NWA World Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce and Shane Hagadorn lost to The Briscoes. The Motor City Machine Guns made another return visit from TNA, taking on Bryan Danielson and Alex Shelley's former friend turned rival Austin Aries. In addition to being the final time Aries and Shelley would face each other in ROH, the show also saw the two former Generation Next leaders finally make peace with each other (which was mostly due to hatred of a common enemy). Delirious took on Rhett Titus, who had a hot cellphone video he couldn't wait to share with the locker room. Coincidentally, all of the male wrestlers began suddenly acting strange around Daizee Haze. In a battle of the Tiger Drivers, Roderick Strong and Necro Butcher faced off in a "Relaxed Rules" match. And Pelle Primeau, ROH's first student turned resident plucky underdog, wrestled what would be the last match of his Ring of Honor run, as he was soon written out of the promotion. Besides a handful of sporadic dark matches, Primeau would have one last main show match at an HDNet taping in February 2010 [Ep. #52 - taped 2/5/10]. Grizzly Redwood would replace Primeau as the resident underdog until 2013, when he too left and Cheeseburger filled the spot. |

 Today in Ring of Honor History: August 2- 2008: Ring of Honor held "Death Before Dishonor VI" in New York, NY. The main event saw Nigel McGuinness defend the ROH World Championship against his greatest rival Bryan Danielson, ROH World Tag Team Champion Tyler Black, and fellow European wrestler Claudio Castagnoli, who was still threating to leave if his lost this extra "one last shot. After being eliminated, instead of giving in to the fans loud chants and getting the f*** out, Claudio snapped and viciously attacked Danielson, starting a feud between them that would last for the remainder of the year. In addition to being the start of Claudio Castagnoli's heel run that would last for the remainder of his tenure, the match was in fact his last shot at the ROH World Championship until he returned to Ring of Honor at "Death Before Dishonor 2022" [7/23/22]. ROH World Tag Team Champion Jimmy Jacobs' hold over Necro Butcher began slipping when the two faced off in a Three-Way match against Austin Aries. Sweet n' Sour, Inc. looked to be on track for a great with two back to back wins after Chris Hero defeated Delirious in a quasi-rematch from "A New Level" [5/10/08], while Eddie Edwards won the first ever singles match between him and Roderick Strong, but it all came crashing down when ex-member Brent Albright defeated his former Hangmen 3 leader Adam Pearce to become the new NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Also coming up short that night was Sweet n' Sour, Inc. member Go Shiozaki, who lost to fellow Pro Wrestling NOAH wrestler Naomichi Marufuji. Marufuji made his presence known in the main event, laying the groundwork for his ROH World Championship match at "Final Battle 2008" [12/27/08]. Kevin Steen and El Generico scored a big win over the Motor City Machine Guns, but it may have been partially because the Machine Guns had their minds elsewhere, namely Daizee Haze. Haze had an interesting night that night, as in addition to having awkward encounters with various wrestlers backstage, she became the biggest heel of the night by sending Delirious on an express trip to the friendzone when he finally plucked up the courage to ask her out. To make it worse, she did it after he came to her defense when Rhett Titus called her "used goods" and unveiled his tribute to "Ravishing" Rick Rude. Unfortunately for Haze, despite having the face of lizard, Delirious had the heart and feeling of a man, and there would be consequences ["Age of Insantiy" - 8/15/08]. And The Briscoes racked up another win following Mark's return from injury, this time over The Vulture Squad. - 2010: Following a recent epic rant from Figure 4 Weekly/Wrestling Observer's Bryan "Chico" Alverez in which he lamented he wished TNA and professional wrestling in general were doing better so he'd be rich enough to buy a gold boat, Dave Prazak, as a gesture of appreciation to his co-host Mike Hogwood, gifted him a gold boat in recognition of the success of ROH on HDNet (they aired Ep. #68 [taped 7/16/10] that same day). |

 Today in Ring of Honor History: August 3- 2012: Ring of Honor held a television taping in Baltimore, MD. With the ROH World Tag Team Championship being declared vacant after the departure of Kenny King, an eight-team tournament to crown new champions kicked off, with all four opening round matches taking place: BLK OUT (featuring the returning Ruckus) versus The Briscoes; the Bravado Brothers versus S.C.U.M.; The Guardians of Truth (a.k.a. The Headbangers) versus the makeshift team of recent ROH World Tag Team Champions Charlie Haas and Rhett Titus; and The Young Bucks versus Caprice Coleman and Cedric Alexander, in what was the Bucks' final match of their second ROH run. Homicide received what ended up being his last ever shot at the ROH World Championship, challenging Kevin Steen. Adam Cole defended the ROH World Television Championship against Michael Elgin, who was quickly becoming a frequent rival as this was their fourth singles match of the year in Ring of Honor. Looking ahead towards their next (major) pay-per-view, Rhino defeated Eddie Edwards in an "Anything Goes" match to become the number one contender for the ROH World Championship, while Mike Mondo became the number one contender for the ROH World Television Championship by winning a Six Man Mayhem match over Jay Lethal, Mike Bennett, Roderick Strong, TJ Perkins and Tommaso Ciampa. Lethal pulled double duty on the taping, facing Matt Taven in their first ever encounter. Perhaps in a bit of coincidental groundwork for their future rivalry years later, the match ended in seconds after Lethal, a babyface, was intentionally disqualified for giving Taven a low blow. And Sara Del Rey wrestled her first Ring of Honor match in well over a year, taking on Mia Yim. - 2013: ROH held "All-Star Extravaganza V" in Toronto, ON. The tournament to crown a new holder for the vacant ROH World Championship was underway, with Adam Cole becoming the first man to reach the semifinals after defeating Jay Lethal. The remainder of the tournament matches on the show were opening round matches, two of which featured wrestlers who were in the tournament to crown the very first ROH Champion eleven years prior ["Road to the Title" - 6/22/02]: Paul London and Brian Kendrick. London would come up short in his match against Michael Elgin, while Kendrick fell to former ROH World Champion Kevin Steen. The remainder for the first round matches saw ROH World Television Champion Matt Taven taking on Roderick Strong, Silas Young facing Tommaso Ciampa, BJ Whitmer square off with Mike Bennett. The Whitmer match ended up being the start of the angle for his eventual heel turn at the end of the year, as Whitmer had to be stretchered to the hospital and subsequently forced to "retire" after Bennett gave him a botched piledriver on the edge of the ring. New Japan wrestler and future ROH World Television Champion KUSHIDA made his Ring of Honor debut, taking on Adam Page. Exactly one year after their last match, The Young Bucks returned to ROH, competing in a Three-Way Tag Team match against Adrenaline RUSH and the team that beat them in their last appearance, C&C Wrestle Factory. And in the main event, the Forever Hooligan's shocking ROH World Tag Team Championship reign came to a sudden end after just one week [ROH TV #98 - taped 7/27/13], when The American Wolves defeated them to win the belts for a second time. - 2021: On Week by Week, the war between Matt Taven and Vincent saw their surrogates in action, as Mike Bennett took on The Righteous in a Handicap match. |

 Today in Ring of Honor History: August 4- 2006: Ring of Honor held "Time to Man Up" in Lake Grove, NY. The title of the show had a triple meaning, the most obvious being a reference to The Briscoes, who were taking on KENTA and his new protégé Davey Richards. It was also a reference to ROH World Tag Team Champions Austin Aries and Roderick Strong, as they were starting their most demanding weekend as champions by defending their titles in back to back Ultimate Endurance matches, forcing them to outlast six separate tag teams in order to retain their belts. Up first for them were The Embassy, The Rottweilers, and the two men who fought the longest in the ROH/CZW feud, Adam Pearce and BJ Whitmer. The matches weren't the only things on their minds, though, as someone had stolen their title belts. And lastly, the title was a reference to Samoa Joe, who one night before challenging Bryan Danielson for the ROH World Champion in the "Fight of the Century" was testing himself and his recently healed knee by taking on AJ Styles, who was making his final appearance. ROH Pure Champion Nigel McGuinness defended his title against Delirious, while World Champion Bryan Danielson kept his belt safe by competing in a non-title match against Jack Evans. Future ROH World Tag Team Champions Christopher Daniels and Matt Sydal teamed up for the first time, taking on Irish Airborne. "Double C" Claudio Castagnoli squared off with "Double C" Colt Cabana. And Steve Corino made his return, reigniting his feud with Homicide and starting the build towards their inevitable final showdown ["The Bitter End" - 11/4/06]. - 2021: On Women's Division Wednesday, the ROH Women's World Championship tournament continued with Allysin Kay and Willow competing in an opening round mach. |

 Today in Ring of Honor History: August 5- 2006: Ring of Honor held "Fight of the Century" in Edison, NJ. The show was headlined by the long awaited match of Samoa Joe challenging Bryan Danielson for the ROH World Championship, which ended up becoming the first of three one hour draws Danielson would have as champion. Joe didn't walk away completely empty handed though, as he formed a new alliance with an old enemy, Homicide. Earlier in the show Homicide teamed with BJ Whitmer against his longtime nemesis Steve Corino and his new buddy, ROH Lieutenant Adam Pearce. Pearce wasn't Corino's only new friend, as he was also backed up by The Briscoes. Pearce also seemed to find a new friend in Top of the Class Trophy holder Shane Hagadorn, who defeated Bobby Dempsey in what was then (and probably still is) the shortest match in Ring of Honor history. The still beltless ROH World Tag Team Champions Austin Aries and Roderick Strong managed to outlast three more teams to continue their reign, defeating The Briscoes, Irish Airborne, and their former Generation Next teammates Jack Evans and Matt Sydal in their second Ultimate Endurance match of the weekend. KENTA wanted to test his new protégé Davey Richards, and took him in in their first singles match against each other. After appearing sporadically the past few months, Jay Lethal his final appearance in his initial ROH run, competing in a Four Corner Survival match against ROH Pure Champion Nigel McGuinness, Christopher Daniels and Claudio Castagnoli. And Colt Cabana came face to face with The Embassy's Sal Rinauro, as well as Lacey's Angels' Lacey, who wanted him to put an end to the rumors they were sleeping together. |

 Today in Ring of Honor History: August 6- 2021: Ring of Honor aired their latest episode of television from Baltimore, MD. In the main event, new ROH World Champion Bandido teamed with Rey Horus to take on VLNCE UNLTD members Brody King and new ROH World Tag Team Champion Chris Dickinson. The bulk of the episode, though, was dedicated the ROH Women's World Championship Tournament, with two first round matches. Trish Adora squared off with Marti Belle, while ROH host Quinn McKay once again stepped into the ring to get some payback in a rematch against Mandy Leon [Ep. #513 - 7/16/21]. |

 Today in Ring of Honor History: August 7- 2004: Ring of Honor held "Testing the Limit" in Essington, PA. After wrestling half of the final match at "Survival of the Fittest" [6/24/04] by themselves, Bryan Danielson and Austin Aries cemented their rivalry when they met in a rematch, this time Two out of Three Falls. Their encounter lasted 75-minutes, and for years was the longest match in Ring of Honor history, before finally being surpassed by the Eight-Man Elimination Tag Team match at "Northern Aggression" [12/4/11], which lasted 80-minutes. Despite setting a record for being the then-longest match in company history, the match was much shorter than what Danielson had hoped, as he originally pitched having the first two falls end in 60-minute time limit draws, with the third fall ending just before the time limit expired. In a bit a useless trivia, the show saw the ROH debut of Danielson's maroon ring gear, which would go on to become his signature color. Trent Acid received his highest profile match in his Ring of Honor run by challenging Samoa Joe for the ROH World Championship, but an unfortunate ankle injury minutes into the match hampered his performance. The resulting poor quality of the match combined with the length of the main event resulted in match being basically cut from the DVD, making it the first (and I'm pretty sure only) time an ROH World Championship match has been cut. Rocky Romero began his first reign as ROH Tag Team Champion when he and Ricky Reyes defeated the Second City Saints for the titles. The title win ended The Rottweilers' wild night on a high note, as earlier in the show Homicide and Low Ki caused a massive brawl after being defeated by the Briscoe Brothers. Despite the chaotic post-match angle setting up bigger things, the match ended up being the Briscoes' last in their initial Ring of Honor run. Not long after the show, Mark suffered a motorcycle accident that would sideline him for near a year, with Jay stepped away from the ring as well, as he didn't want to wrestle without his brother. Former ECW star 2 Cold Scorpio made a guest appearance, taking part in a Four Corner Survival match with Ace Steel, Alex Shelley and Jay Lethal. Dan Maff and BJ Whitmer took on their soon to be hardcore rivals the Carnage Crew for the first time. And John Walters defeated Nigel McGuinness to become the number one contender for the ROH Pure Championship. |

 Today in Ring of Honor History: August 9- 2003: Ring of Honor held "Wrath of the Racket" in Dayton, OH. ROH's first time in Dayton, the show saw the debut of two men who would go on to have a major impact on the history of Ring of Honor. The most obvious one was Jim Cornette, who the show was named after. For the show, Cornette aligned himself with The Prophecy, who were set to challenge AJ Styles and The Amazing Red for the ROH Tag Team Championship. However, after Cornette got The Prophecy to attack Red earlier in the evening, he ultimately did not participate in the title defense, and was replaced by Homicide. Shane Taylor racked up another successful defense of the ROH World Television Championship by defeating Tracy Williams, while WOH World Champion Kelly Klein did likewise when she defeated Tasha Steelz. Rush scored another victory over former ROH World Champion Dalton Castle, this time in a No Disqualification match. ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champion Marty Scurll squared off with PJ Black, while his Villain Enterprises partners PCO and Brody King took on The Kingdom. In one of their first encounters against each other, Jonathan Gresham teamed up with Jay Lethal to take on Bandido and his LifeBlood teammate Mark Haskins. And in a CMLL showcase match, Caristico (a.k.a. Mistico/the original Sin Cara), El Soberano, Jr. and Stuka, Jr. came out on top in a Six-Man Tag Team match against El Barbaro Cavernario, Hechicero and Templario. |

That Lethal/Gresham vs. Bandido/Haskins match was a lot of fun. I don't think 2019 is looked at all that fondly in ROH history, but Summer Supercard was really good and that match stole the show, IMO.
