 Today in Ring of Honor History: September 19- 2008: Ring of Honor taped "Driven 2008" for pay-per-view in Boston, MA. After a year and a half of fighting, Kevin Steen and El Generico defeated The Age of the Fall to finally become the ROH World Tag Team Champions. Nigel McGuinness made another successful defense of the ROH World Championship, this time against Roderick Strong. Meanwhile, following his win in a Three-Way Elimination match over bitter rival Claudio Castagnoli and Sweet n' Sour, Inc.'s Go Shiozaki, Bryan Danielson made it clear he wants the next title shot on pay-per-view. Shiozaki's loss in the Three-Way brought Sweet n' Sour, Inc. to a 50/50 night, with Chris Hero besting Jerry Lynn and Sara Del Rey squashing Jessie McKay, while Adam Pearce and Eddie Edwards came up short in a tag team match against NWA World Heavyweight Champion Brent Albright and Erick Stevens. Austin Aries's feud with Jimmy Jacobs found him taking on The Age of the Fall's newest member Delirious. And The Briscoes won a Tag Team Scramble match over Necro Butcher, The Vulture Squad, and The YRR. In the DVD exclusive portion of the show, Daizee Haze took on Madison Eagles, Josh Daniels returned after a three year absence in a losing effort against Rhett Titus, and Mitch Franklin was rebranded "The Littlest Lumberjack" Grizzly Redwood. - 2009: ROH held "Final Countdown Tour: Chicago" in Chicago Ridge, IL. As his ten-day road trip with Colt Cabana and Sal Rinauro come to an end ["The Wrestling Road Diaries"], Bryan Danielson's Ring of Honor career was soon coming to an end as well, and his farewell tour saw him challenge for the ROH World Championship one last time in his final match ever against his longtime rival Austin Aries. Nigel McGuinness, who was also soon to depart the promotion, said his goodbye to Chicago in a promo instead of a match. While Danielson and McGuinness still had one week left in their Ring of Honor careers, two others came to an end that night. Jimmy Rave, who for the past few years had been struggling with drug addiction, wrestled the final match of his second run in ROH, losing a Dog Collar match to Necro Butcher. Meanwhile, Brent Albright made his last main show appearance, teaming with Bobby Dempsey to defeat The House of Truth. While Rave would wrestle a one-off match at "Final Battle 2011" [12/23/11] before making a brief return as a member of S.C.U.M. in 2013 ["11th Anniversary" - 3/2/13/], Albright's subsequent appearance was limited to two dark matches at the HDNet tapings in March 2010 [3/5 - 3/6/10]. Perennial contenders The Briscoes challenged The American Wolves for the ROH World Tag Team Championship, but were cheated out of another reign when Davey Richards intentionally got the Wolves disqualified by attacking the referee. In a meeting between "Double C" Claudio Castagnoli and "Double C" Colt Cabana, Cabana used his brain to get past Castagnoli's brawn and win the match. Bret Hart stopped by to talk about his time wrestling in Chicago, Petey Williams' rivalry with Austin Aries found him facing Rhett Titus, The Young Bucks squared off with the Dark City Fight Club in a rematch from HDNet [Ep. #25 - taped 8/14/09], and Kyle O'Reilly made his Ring of Honor debut in a Six Man Mayhem match against Alex Payne, Grizzly Redwood, Rasche Brown, Sal Rinauro and Silas Young. - 2015: ROH held a television taping in San Antonio, TX. One day after being stabbed in the back and screwed out of the winning the ROH World Championship, Kyle O'Reilly's renewed feud with his former friend and tag team partner Adam Cole founding them facing each other twice in one night. O'Reilly first teamed with his reDRagon partner Bobby Fish and Michael Elgin to defeat the reunited Kingdom of Cole and new ROH World Tag Team Champions Michael Bennett and Matt Taven, but then he came up short against Cole in a Three-Way match including AJ Styles. One night removed from retaining both the ROH World Championship and ROH World Television Championship in separate matches, Jay Lethal was again a fighting champion, putting the TV title on the line against Takaaki Watanabe. Adam Page was back in action and continuing his feud against Jay Briscoe, taking him in a No Holds Barred match. Down a win in their Best of Five Series, Matt Sydal tied things up with his tag team partner ACH in Match #4, pushing them towards a final showdown. Silas Young began his task of turning his new charges The Boys into men by making them first face him and Beer City Bruiser in a tag team match, before later having them take on The Young Bucks. Meanwhile, the Boy-less Dalton Castle had to continue on by himself, and did so by besting Cedric Alexander. The reunited All-Night Express defeated ex-ROH World Tag Team Champions The Addiction, Moose took on fellow big man Donovan Dijak, and Roderick Strong wrestled Will Ferrara. |

 Today in Ring of Honor History: September 20- 2003: Ring of Honor held "Glory by Honor II", the final show at their original home of the Murphy Rec Center in Philadelphia, PA. The main event for their last night saw the long awaited showdown of Christopher Daniels challenging Samoa Joe for the ROH World Championship in their first singles match in Ring of Honor. The issue of the vacant ROH Tag Team Championship was settled when The Backseat Boyz outlasted the Briscoe Brothers, the Carnage Crew, The Ring Crew Express, and two teams representing Special K, Izzy and Dixie and the duo of Deranged and Hydro, in a Tag Team Gauntlet match to become the new champions. Raven and CM Punk's feud with each other found them playing booker, with each picking the other's opponent. For Raven, Punk went an odd route and selected Steve Corino, who at that point had never won a match against Raven, while Raven picked someone from his own past to teach Punk a lesson, the legendary Terry Funk. The Field of Honor tournament continued with John Walters and former ROH Champion Xavier facing each other in a match for Block A, which began a feud between the two that would last the rest of the year, while in Block B BJ Whitmer squared off with Jimmy Rave. Colt Cabana scored a victory in a Four Corner Survival match over AJ Styles, Chris Sabin and Matt Stryker. Alexis Laree wrestled her final match for Ring of Honor, an intergender bout against Special K's Hijinx, before departing for WWE were she would become known under her real name, Mickie James. And fans got to witness two debuts as the infamous Teddy Hart took on fellow Stampede wrestler TJ Wilson (a.k.a. Tyson Kidd) on the main show, while on the pre-show, Roderick Strong competed in a Four Corner Survival match against Alex Shelley, Jimmy Jacobs and Josh Daniels. - 2008: ROH held "Glory by Honor VII" in Philadelphia, PA. The show could've been named "Night of Champions 2", as five champions representing four promotions competed on the show, with four of the belts being on the line. For Ring of Honor's won ROH World Championship, Nigel McGuinness defended the title against new ROH World Tag Team Champion El Generico in a rematch from "Age of Insanity" [8/15/08]. Sweet n' Sour, Inc.'s Go Shiozaki represented ROH's sister promotion Full Impact Pro when he defended the FIP World Heavyweight Championship against the other half of the ROH Tag Champions, Kevin Steen. Bryan Danielson represented Pro Wrestling NOAH by defending his newly won GHC Junior Heavyweight Championship against Katsuhiko Nakajima. And for the National Wrestling Alliance, Sweet n' Sour, Inc.'s Adam Pearce defeated Brent Albright in a rematch from "Death Before Dishonor VI" [8/2/08] to win NWA World Heavyweight Championship for the second time. That match was supposed to end the feud between former teammates Albright and Pearce, as booker Gabe Sapolsky had made the decision to end Pearce's run in Ring of Honor. A little over a month later, Pearce would be back in ROH, replacing Sapolsky as the new booker. Kensuke Sasaki, the reigning GHC Heavyweight Champion, was the lone champion not in a title defense that night, taking on Claudio Castagnoli in a non-title match instead. Despite having five singles champions on the show, none of the title matches were the main event, as that spot went to the return of the Steel Cage Warfare, with Austin Aries teaming up with The Briscoes in a Three-Way bout against The Age of the Fall and Necro Butcher, who fought alone. After a lot of wild action, which included Daizee Haze running in to try to reason with Delirious only to have him stab her in the head with a spike, the Briscoes ended their yearlong feud with The Age of the Fall by last eliminating Jimmy Jacobs and Tyler Black. Meanwhile, Sweet n' Sour, Inc. had a great night, as in addition to retaining the FIP World Heavyweight Championship and regaining the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, the trio of Chris Hero, Eddie Edwards and Shane Hagadorn came out on top against Roderick Strong and The Vulture Squad in a Six-Man Tag Team match. Jerry Lynn and Kenny King faced each other for the first time, and Erick Stevens squashed Rhett Titus. - 2013: ROH held "Death Before Dishonor XI" in Philadelphia, PA. Though "Glory by Honor II" and "Glory by Honor VII" both taking place in the same city makes it seem like ROH was constantly there, this was actually Ring of Honor's first show in their original home of Philadelphia in well over a year and a half ["Homecoming 2012" - 1/20/12]. After going all summer with it vacant, Ring of Honor finally had a new ROH World Champion after Adam Cole first defeated Tommaso Ciampa in the semifinals of the title tournament, and later Michael Elgin in the main event to win the title for the first time. In addition to bringing the tournament to a close, Cole's slow heel turn also came to a close when he attacked the still still injured Jay Briscoe immediately after he presented him with the ROH World Championship belt. C&C Wrestle Factory and Adrenaline RUSH teamed up for a big win over ROH World Tag Team Champions reDRagon, ROH World Television Champion Matt Taven and Michael Bennett in an Eight-Man Tag Team match. The American Wolves and Forever Hooligans met in a rematch of the main event of "All-Star Extravaganza V" [8/3/13], this time with the Hooligan's IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship on the line. Roderick Strong squared off with Pro Wrestling NOAH's Ricky Marvin, Jay Lethal and Silas Young faced each other for the very first time, and Adam Page took on RD Evans. And following his injury from a botched Piledriver at "All-Star Extravaganza V", BJ Whitmer returned to announce his retirement from wrestling, as well as to ask ROH Matchmaker Nigel McGuinness to give his onetime friend and longtime enemy, former S.C.U.M. member Jimmy Jacobs, one more shot in Ring of Honor. |

 Today in Ring of Honor History: September 21- 2002: Ring of Honor held "Unscripted" in Philadelphia, PA. The show featured a one-night tournament to crown the first ROH Tag Team Champions, which due to a number of factors had to be consistently rebooked as wrestlers became unavailable. Christopher Daniels and Donovan Morgan of The Prophecy would ultimately win the tournament and become the inaugural champions after first defeating The SAT in the opening round, Japanese wrestlers Dick Togo and Ikuto Hidaka in the semifinals, and lastly "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson and Michael Modest, who weren't originally booked for the tournament, in the finals. Initially Spanky was booked to team with fellow Shawn Michael's Wrestling Academy graduate Paul London in the tournament, but withdrew to due to commitments with Pro Wrestling Zero1 in Japan. In need of a replacement, London selected Danielson as his new partner at the start of the show, only to then immediately abandon him by withdrawing from the tournament to face his rival Michael Shane instead. Danielson then selected Modest as his partner, while London took on Shane in an insane Street Fight that not only saw the birth of the "Please don't die" chant, but was pretty much the inspiration for many of Shelton Benjamins' big Money in the Bank Ladder match spots. Danielson and Modest ended up having an easy route to the finals, as they received a bye in the semifinals due to the opening round match of Da Hit Squad against the Natural Born Sinners not taking place after both teams were attacked by the Carnage Crew. In actuality, the match was cancelled after Xtreme Pro Wrestling, which a month prior had relocated from California to Pennsylvania, had attempted to raid Ring of Honor and signs several wrestlers, with two of those approached being the Natural Born Sinners. While Homicide remained loyal to Ring of Honor, and would go on to be major star and focal point of the promotion for years, Boogalou wisely opted to sign with XPW instead, where he ended up having a grand total of two matches (and lost both of them). The other tournament match of note saw Togo and Hidaka advance in the first round over former F.B.I. members James Maritato and Tony Mamaluke. The loss would cause a split between Maritato and Mamaluke, with the two facing in an impromptu match. Overall the show was a great night for The Prophecy, as in addition to become the first Tag Champions, they gained a new member in Xavier, who shockingly defeated Low Ki to become the new ROH Champion. Thus in one night, The Prophecy gained all the titles in Ring of Honor. If the main title changing hands and the crowning of the first Tag Team Champions wasn't historic enough, the show also saw surprise debuts of future stars CM Punk and Colt Cabana, who were in town for a 3PW show and decided to stop by and do a promo for their upcoming ROH in-ring debuts. The Amazing Red and Jay Briscoe met in a rematch from "The Era of Honor Begins" [2/23/02], former Pro Wrestling NOAH wrestler Takao Omori faced Sonny Siaki, and Prince Nana managed Alex Arion in a match against Dunn of The Ring Crew Express. Additionally, former AWA, NWA, WCW and WWF ring announcer Gary Michael Cappetta made his debut as Ring of Honor's new backstage interview, and Chris Lovey (Gabe Sapolsky) and Ray Murrow made their debut as ROH's new commentary team. After wrestling two matches the night before, new ROH World Champion Adam Cole got a night off from in-ring action, instead getting in some all-important promo time. Despite not having an opponent on the taping, Cole found no shortage of challengers, with the still injured former champion Jay Briscoe and Michael Elgin both angled to be his first challenger. Meanwhile, Ring of Honor's other titles were on the line, as Jay Lethal received his shot against ROH World Television Champion Matt Taven after winning the Proving Ground match at "Road to Greatness: Night 2" [9/7/13], and reDRagon defended the ROH World Tag Team Championship in a Three-Way against C&C Wrestle Factory and the Forever Hooligans. Former rivals and real life friends Kevin Steen and Eddie Edwards wrestled their final match ever against each other. After his ex-partner BJ Whitmer went to bat for him the night before, ROH Matchmaker Nigel McGuinness gave Jimmy Jacobs one more shot in Ring of Honor by putting him in a five match Trial Series, with his first match against Silas Young. Mike Mondo finished up his Ring of Honor run in a singles match against Roderick Strong. Maria Kanellis had her second ROH match when she teamed with her boyfriend Michael Bennett against the new team of Brutal Bob Evans and Cheeseburger, collectively known as Brutal Burgers. Davey Richards squared off with Pro Wrestling NOAH's Ricky Marvin, Mark Briscoe took on Tadarius Thomas, ACH and Adam Page had their first singles match against each other, and Outlaw, Inc. once against murdered Marshall Law in a rematch from "Manhattan Mayhem V" [8/17/13]. - 2019: MCW Pro Wrestling partnered with ROH for the second month in a row for "Future of Honor: Honor Games" in Joppa, MD. In the main event, Rhett Titus defeated champion Dante Caballero as well as Austin Aries, Brian Johnson, Greg Excellent, Joe Keys and Ken Dixon in a Seven-Way match to become the new MCW Heavyweight Champion. ROH's Shane Taylor defended the ROH World Television Championship against MCW's Bill Collier, while MCW's Aria Palmer defended the MCW Women's Championship against ROH's Jenny Rose. The Shinobi Shadow Squad picked up a victory in a Six-Man Tag Team match over The Haitian Sensation, Hyena Hexx and Omar Amir, while future ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions the Sons of Savagery won a handicap match against Primal Fear.  Today in Ring of Honor History: September 22- 2012: Ring of Honor held a television taping in Baltimore, MD. The first three episodes featured the opening round matches of Survival of the Fittest 2012, with the finals taking place in the last episode. After advancing over QT Marshall in his first match, Jay Lethal outlast ROH World Television Champion Adam Cole, Davey Richards, Mike Mondo, and The House of Truth's Roderick Strong and Michael Elgin to win the tournament and earn a shot at the ROH World Championship. The other participants in the tournament: Homicide, Kyle O'Reilly, Mike Bennett, Rhino, and Tadarius Thomas. S.C.U.M. had both titles they controlled on the line, with Kevin Steen defending the ROH World Championship against Rhett Titus, while new ROH World Tag Team Champions Jimmy Jacobs and Steve Corino made their first defense against Caprice Coleman and Cedric Alexander. Titus' title match was his second of the evening, as earlier on he teamed with new tag team partner BJ Whitmer in a grudge match against Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team. The Briscoes took on the Bravado Brothers, and after making their previous appearances under the name "Guardians of Truth", The Head Bangers finally wrestled as themselves in a dark match against Fusion DS. - 2017: ROH held "Death Before Dishonor XV" in Las Vegas, NV. The Bullet Club found themselves well represented in title matches, competing in three of the four championship bouts, though not successfully in all of them. Cody retained the ROH World Championship against New Japan's Minoru Suzuki, while The Young Bucks and Adam Page retained the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship again Bully Rey and The Briscoes, who won their title shot by defeating The Kingdom in the opening match of the show. The title match was a major turning point for Page, as after five years in Ring of Honor and being partnered with established names in The Decade and Bullet Club, he finally got over with the fans due to his "Where's Hangman" angle on Being the Elite. Unfortunately for the Bucks, despite retaining the Six-Man titles, they were not as successful in defending the ROH World Tag Team Championship, losing the belts to longtime rivals the Motor City Machine Guns. The Tag titles would not be the only belts to change hands that night, as hometown hero Kenny King bested KUSHIDA to win the ROH World Television Championship for the first time (a feat that becomes surprising when you remember the last time Ring of Honor put a title on King, he used it to leverage a better deal in another promotion). The feud between Jay Lethal and Silas Young came to an end with the two meeting in a Last Man Standing match. After going 2-0 in singles matches, as well as wrestling to a double count out in the finals of the Gauntlet match at "Gateway to Gold" [6/4/17], Jay White looked to pick up another victory over Punishment Martinez when they faced each other in a Street Fight. And Chuck Taylor wrestled his first singles match in ROH, taking on Bullet Club's Marty Scurll. - 2021: On Women's Division Wednesday, Brandi Lauren squared off with Laynie Luck. |

 Today in Ring of Honor History: September 23- 2017: Ring of Honor held a television taping in Las Vegas, NV. After a handful of matches in 2010 and a dark match in 2016 ["Survival of the Fittest 2016: Night 2" - 11/4/06], Scorpio Sky, a 15-year veteran of the California independent scene best known for his time in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, returned to ROH, kicking off what would be a career resurgence. Sky found himself in action twice that night, first facing reigning IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion and former ROH World Television Champion KUSHIDA, and later challenging Cody for the ROH World Championship. The match with Sky was Cody's second defense of the evening, as he first defended it in an impromptu match against Cheeseburger. Likewise KUSHIDA would also be pulling double duty at the tapings, teaming with Jay Lethal to defeat The Addiction. New ROH World Television Champion Kenny King made his first title defense against 2017 Top Prospect winner Josh Woods, while Mark Briscoe became the new number one contender after winning a Four Corner Survival match over Chuck Taylor, Punishment Martinez and Shane Taylor. The Young Bucks and Adam Page of the Bullet Club found themselves being challenged for the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship by Minoru Suzuki, Silas Young and Beer City Bruiser. New ROH World Tag Team Champions the Motor City Machine Guns teamed with their Search and Destroy stablemate Jonathan Gresham in a Six-Man Tag Team match against The Kingdom, while their other teammate Jay White faced Bullet Club's Marty Scurll. The Six-Man Tag would not be Gresham's last match against The Kingdom that night, as he later faced TK O'Ryan in a singles match. The Dawgs evened the score with The Tempura Boyz in a rematch from the night before. And after turning on Bully Ray at "Death Before Dishonor XV", Jay Briscoe had some 'splainin to do to a lot of people, including Bully's longtime friend Tommy Dreamer. |

After advancing over Jerrelle Clark in the opening round, Roderick Strong outlasted Christopher Daniels, Colt Cabana, Jay Lethal, Samoa Joe, and his own Generation Next teammate Austin Aries to become the winner of the second Survival of the Fittest tournament and earn a shot at the ROH World Championship. Despite the tournament format, various feuds were able to continue in the opening round matches, as Cabana's feud with Homicide found him facing Ricky Reyes of The Rottweilers, while the war between Generation Next and The Embassy saw Aries take on Jimmy Rave. The other participants in the opening round: former ROH World Champion James Gibson, Japanese wrestler Milano Collection A.T., and Sal Rinauro. In the lone non-tournament match on the show, ROH Tag Team Champion BJ Whitmer challenged Nigel McGuinness for the ROH Pure Championship. Lacey teased finding her first client for the new Lacey's Angels, DeVito of the Carnage Crew stepped into an ROH ring for the final time to compete in a dark match, and the legendary Kenta Kobashi appeared via promo to tease his upcoming appearances ["Joe vs. Kobashi" - 10/1/05; "Unforgettable" - 10/2/05]. - 2016: ROH concluded the "Reloaded Tour 2016" in Duluth, GA. The main event saw the return of the Ringmaster's Challenge match, with former ROH World Champion Jay Lethal taking on Colt Cabana. For this iteration of the Ringmaster's Challenge, the third fall Iron Man match was upped from the traditional 15-minutes to 30-minutes. The legendary Jushin "Thunder" Liger made a special appearance, facing Dalton Castle in a rematch from the "Global Wars 2015" television taping [ROH TV: Ep. #194 - taped 5/16/15]. After making sporadic appearances for the past year, Stevie Richards wrestled his final match for Ring of Honor, losing to Silas Young. Building off of their singles match trilogy at "Reloaded Tour 2016: Pittsburgh, PA" [9/16/16], the Motor City Machine Guns and Jay White squared off with ROH World Tag Team Champions The Addiction and Kamaitachi in a Six-Man Tag Team match. On the eve of their final night in the promotion, Bryan Danielson's farewell tour found him facing off against ROH World Tag Team Champion Davey Richards in their only singles match in Ring of Honor, while Nigel McGuinness' saw him take on Roderick Strong. After losing, Danielson named Richards the best wrestler in the world (which might have been more impactful if Danielson hadn't lost every single match in his farewell tour up to that point). Meanwhile, Richards' tag team partner Eddie Edwards had a horrible night, as 24-hours before The American Wolves were set to defend the ROH World Tag Team Championship against Kevin Steen and El Generico in Ladder War II, Edwards took on Steen in an "Anything Goes" match. Midway through the bout, Steen caught Edwards with a steel chair as he was going for a dive to the floor, fracturing Edwards' elbow and causing a piece of it to break off. The feud between ROH World Champion Austin Aries and Colt Cabana continued in a tag match, with Aries teaming with Rhett Titus to defeat Cabana and Kenny Omega. Claudio Castagnoli won a Four Corner Survival match over El Generico, Petey Williams, and his former tag team partner Chris Hero. Hero and Castagnoli spent much of the match working together, laying the groundwork for the eventual reunion of the Kings of Wrestling. The rivalry between Delirious and Sonjay Dutt heated up when Dutt attacked Daizee Haze after being bested by Delirious in a singles match. The Young Bucks took on Up in Smoke, Dark City Fight Club squashed Bobby Dempsey and Alex Payne, and Bret Hart stopped by to talk about his time wrestling in Boston. - 2015: ROH continued the "Reloaded Tour" in California, PA. The show found a number of wrestlers pulling double duty, with The Addiction winning the opening match against Will Ferrara and Takaaki Watanabe, before losing in the main event to The Briscoes. Adam Cole picked up two singles victories, the first against Cheeseburger, and the second against Matt Jackson, who was competing in a rare singles match due to his brother Nick being at home with his pregnant wife, who had gone into early labor. ROH World Champion/ROH World Television Champion Jay Lethal tried to lead The House of Truth to victory in a Six-Man Tag Team match over War Machine and Moose, but came up short. Three years after vacating the belts when Kenny King left for TNA and one week after reuniting at "All-Star Extravaganza VII" [9/18/15], The All-Night Express tried to get back in title contention when they challenged new ROH World Tag Team Champions The Kingdom in a Proving Ground match. Former House of Truth teammates turned rivals Roderick Strong and Michael Elgin wrestled what would be their last singles match together. ACH and Caprice Coleman met in a rematch from ROH television [Ep. #209 - taped 8/21/15]. And Brutal Bob Evans celebrated five years in Ring of Honor by facing his student Shaheem Ali. - 2020: ROH aired their latest episode of television from Baltimore, MD. The ROH Pure Championship Tournament continued with two first round matches, as Silas Young faced the debuting Fred Yehi, while Josh Woods took on Kenny King in the main event. |

 Today in Ring of Honor History: September 26- 2009: Ring of Honor held "Glory by Honor VIII: The Final Countdown" in New York, NY. The show brought to an end the lengthy tenures of former ROH World Champions Bryan Danielson and Nigel McGuinness, who faced off against each other for the final time ever. Both were believed to be heading to WWE, but McGuinness, who suffered a number of injuries in his final years in ROH (including a concussion in this last match) had his offer rescinded, and ended up signing with TNA instead. Despite losing two of its biggest stars, the business of Ring of Honor had to continue, and did so with the surprise return of Jim Cornette after a two and a half year absence ["Supercard of Honor II" - 3/31/07], with him assuming the role of the "Executive Producer of ROH on HDNet". In addition to being the on-screen authority figure, Cornette also began working behind the scene by assisting with the booking, which would have a tremendous impact (though not necessarily a positive one) on locker room morale and fan reception of the product. Four wrestlers who would factor heavily into the story of Cornette's second ROH run faced off that night, as Kevin Steen and El Generico received their final shot against The American Wolves for the ROH World Tag Team Championship, challenging them in Ladder War II. The match was originally intended to be the main event, but was downgraded after it was announced the show would be Danielson and McGuinness' final appearances. Ladder War II solidified Eddie Edwards as one tough son of a bitch in the eyes of the fans, as he competed in the hard hitting brawl with a broken freakin' elbow. Austin Aries defended the ROH World Championship against Petey Williams, and quickly established an antagonistic relationship with the new Executive Producer. With their first match ending in a no contest and their second ending in a loss, The Young Bucks evened the score with The Briscoes by besting them in their third and final match against each other for the year. Longtime hated rivals Chris Hero and Eddie Kingston added another chapter to their feud when faced off in their second match against each other in ROH. After being badly busted open at "Final Countdown Tour: Dayton" [9/18/09], Rhett Titus came looking for payback against Colt Cabana in a singles match, but ended up walking away the loser. Kenny Omega took on Claudio Castagnoli in a rematch from "Final Battle 2008" [12/27/08], the Dark City Fight Club square off with Up in Smoke, and Roderick Strong won a Four Corner Survival match over Delirious, Grizzly Redwood and Sonjay Dutt. - 2015: ROH finished the "Reloaded Tour" in Lockport, NY. The main event saw ACH picked up a big win in a Four Corner Survival match against Moose and former ROH World Champions Adam Cole and Michael Elgin. Failing to win capped off a bad night for Cole, as for the second night in a row he fell victim to four superkicks from Matt Jackson. For his part on the show, Matt Jackson beat Cole's Kingdom teammate, ROH World Tag Team Champion Matt Taven, in a singles match. Meanwhile, former ROH World Tag Team Champions The Addiction's attempts to expose the conspiracy that cost them titles led them to running their mouths off, resulting in Christopher Daniels having to take on Hanson of War Machine. Following his return in a guest appearance at "Reloaded Tour: Atlanta, GA" [8/29/15], Stevie Richards finally made his ROH in-ring debut ten and a half years after his surprise (and very confusing) debut ["Back to Basics" - 3/12/05], facing ROH World Champion/ROH World Television Champion Jay Lethal in a Proving Ground match. Roderick Strong took on Takaaki Watanabe, who was finishing up his Ring of Honor excursion and returning to New Japan, where he would soon be repackaged as EVIL and help form Los Ingobernables de Japón. Feeling the pressure of recent loses, Caprice Coleman resorted to dirty tactics to win a singles match against Pepper Parks. The All-Night Express squared off with Donovan Dijak and J. Diesel of The House of Truth, Cheeseburger formed a new tag team with Will Ferrara to take on his former Brutal Burgers partner Brutal Bob Evans and Tim Hughes, and Sumie Sakai made her first main show appearance in twelve years ["Wrestlerave 2003" - 6/28/03], facing Veda Scott. |

 Today in Ring of Honor History: September 27- 2014: Ring of Honor held a television taping in Wheeling, WV. After seven years in WWE, Matt Sydal returned to ROH and kicked things off in high fashion by taking on his former tag team partner AJ Styles. Michael Bennett won the 2014 Honor Rumble, but came up short later in the night when he Jay Briscoe for the ROH World Championship. Jay Lethal made another successful defense of the ROH World Television Championship, this time against Will Ferrara. reDRagon did likewise with the ROH World Tag Team Championship, retaining against Roderick Strong and Jimmy Jacobs of The Decade. That match marked the last time that Jacobs, a former five-time champion, wrestled for the ROH Tag titles. Meanwhile, The Decade's young boys Adam Page and Tadarius Thomas were forced by their mentors to face each other in a No Disqualification match. Adam Cole and Cedric Alexander squared off in their only singles match together in ROH. Mark Briscoe took on Caprice Coleman, Hanson squashed The Romantic Touch, and #TheNewStreak continued as RD Evans teamed with Moose to defeat The Bloodhound Warriors. - 2019: ROH held "Death Before Dishonor XVII" in Las Vegas, NV. The reign of Matt Taven came to an end when his former CMLL rival Rush defeated him to win the ROH World Championship for the first time. The loss saw a big change for Taven, as after years of being a heel, he showed grace in defeat and congratulated Rush for winning, thus starting his turn towards being a babyface. With a new champion crowned, Ring of Honor began looking ahead towards "Final Battle 2019" [12/13/19] by kicking off an eight-man tournament to decide who would challenge for the title. Two of the first round matches were held, with ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions Marty Scurll and PCO of Villain Enterprises advancing over Colt Cabana and Kenny King respectively. The ROH World Championship wouldn't be the only title to change hands that night, as thanks to their trademark Allure chicanery, Angelina Love defeated Kelly Klein to win the WOH World Championship, her seventh World title. With a curse seemingly placed on them every time they're set to challenge for the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship, LifeBlood shifted their focus to capturing other Ring of Honor gold, as Bandido and Mark Haskins teamed up to challenge The Briscoes for the ROH World Tag Team Championship, while Tracy Williams challenged Shane Taylor for the ROH World Television Championship in a Four Corner Survival match involving Dragon Lee and Flip Gordon. If the champions retaining weren't bad enough for LifeBlood, following the Tag title match all three were treated to a beatdown from Bully Ray and Flip Gordon, which was made worse for Haskins as his wife Vicky Haskins was sitting in the front row. Estranged tag team partners Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham settled their differences in a singles match, which saw Gresham finally defeat his mentor. The Bouncers took on Silas Young and Vincent Marseglia in a Bar Room Brawl that featured one of the sickest spots in Ring of Honor history. Jeff Cobb and ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champion Brody King squared off on the pre-show. And Joe Hendry led the fans in singing a new song he'd written for his tag team partner Dalton Castle. |

The show was named after ROH World Champion Adam Cole, whose reign began in earnest when he made his first title defense against Mark Briscoes, that night's winner of the 2013 Honor Rumble. The title match was Mark's third match of the evening, as in addition to the Honor Rumble he'd previously defeated Silas Young in a singles match. Matt Taven faced one of his toughest challenges as ROH World Television Champion, defending the title in a Three-Way match against former ROH World Champions Davey Richards and Roderick Strong. Jimmy Jacobs wrestled the second match of his Trial Series, facing off against his former friend Kevin Steen. ROH World Tag Team Champions reDRagon competed in a non-title match against Monster Mafia, Eddie Edwards squared off with fellow New England wrestler Michael Bennett, and Jay Lethal and Michael Elgin teamed up against Adrenaline RUSH. - 2018: ROH held "Death Before Dishonor XVI" in Las Vegas, NV. Will Ospreay made his only Ring of Honor appearance of the year, challenging Jay Lethal for the ROH World Championship in the main event. The bout was a rematch of Ospreay's last match in ROH, when he lost to Lethal at the final television taping of 2017 [Ep. #330 - taped 12/16/17]. ROH would end the having two World Champions, as immediately after his title defense Lethal was attacked by The Kingdom, with Matt Taven declaring himself the "Real ROH World Champion" and unveiling a purple title belt. Chris Sabin received his first shot at a singles title in Ring of Honor in nearly 13 years ["Showdown in Motown" - 11/4/05], challenging Punishment Martinez for the ROH World Television Championship. The Briscoes made another successful defense of the ROH World Tag Team Championship, retaining against The Addiction, while WOH World Champion Sumie Sakai showed a more aggressive attitude during her title defense against Tenille Dashwood. That match ended up being Dashwood's last in Ring of Honor, as later in the show she was attacked by mystery assailant (Bully Ray) backstage, sidelining her with an injury. Dashwood would briefly return to ROH at the start of 2019 as a member of LifeBlood, before departing in March without having had another match [ROH TV: Ep. #396 - taped 3/16/19]. Bullet Club teamed together in full to win a Ten-Man Tag Team match against CHAOS members Kazuchika Okada, Tomohiro Ishii, Rocky Romero and Best Friends. Colt Cabana stepped away from the commentary booth to team with Flip Gordon in an Tag Team Elimination Tables match against Bully Ray and Silas Young. The legendary Jushin "Thunder" Liger wrestled his final singles match in ROH, squaring off with Las Vegas' own Kenny King. And in two HonorClub exclusive matches, Jonathan Gresham took on the slightly larger Beer City Bruiser, while Cheeseburger did likewise against Shane Taylor. - 2019: ROH finished out their weekend with the live event/television taping "Death Before Dishonor XVII: Fallout" in Las Vegas, NV. Due to injuries suffered by new ROH World Champion Rush and Bandido at the pay-per-view the night before, several of the announced matches had to be changed around. Originally Dragon Lee was scheduled to team with his brother Rush in a tag team match against Villain Enterprises' PCO and Brody King, while Villain Enterprises' leader Marty Scurll competed opposite of Jay Briscoe in a "Vegas Wild Card" Eight-Man Tag Team match. However, with Rush now unable to compete, Dragon Lee instead teamed with ROH World Tag Team Champions The Briscoes to challenge Villain Enterprises for the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship. Meanwhile, the "Vegas Wild Card" match saw Jeff Cobb and Josh Woods (who were already announced for the match) join up with Kenny King and Brian Johnson to best Silas Young, Joe Hendry, Rhett Titus and Cheeseburger. The match would be Woods, Young and Hendry's second matches of the evening, as earlier Young and Woods teamed together against Coast 2 Coast, while Hendy took on Dom Kubrick. New WOH World Champion Angelina Love made her first title defense, competing in a Three-Way match against former champion Sumie Sakai and Jennie Rose. After being brutally attacked the day before, Tracy William got revenge on Villain Enterprises' Flip Gordon when he faced off with him in a No Disqualification match. The eight-man tournament to determine who would challenge for the ROH World Championship at "Final Battle 2019" [12/13/19] concluded the opening round matches, with Jay Lethal advancing over PJ Black (a substitute for Bandido), while Dalton Castle advanced over Mark Haskins. Dak Draper defeated Austin Gunn to win the 2019 Top Prospect Tournament, future ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champion Bateman made his debut against Jake Atlas, and The Bouncers squared off with Chris Bey and Slice Boogie. The loss was so devastating for Martinez that he abruptly left the promotion and fled to Orlando, FL, where he lived under the assumed name of "Damien Priest". Coast 2 Coast found themselves with the biggest opportunity of their Ring of Honor careers, challenging The Briscoes for the ROH World Tag Team Championship. Adam Page faced off with SoCal Uncensored's Scorpio Sky in a singles match, while The Young Bucks took on The Addiction in a Four-Way Tag Team match with Best Friends and Los Ingobernables de Japón. Shane Taylor was originally scheduled to face Flip Gordon, but when he, Bully Ray and Silas Young gave Gordon a pre-match beat down, Taylor instead squared off with Eli Isom. Marty Scurll took on Chris Sabin, Kenny King wrestled Chase Owens, and some dinosaur with a Master's Degree named Luchasaurus made his debut, competing in a Future of Honor match. Meanwhile, Colt Cabana and Dalton Castle won a Four-Way Tag Team match over The All-Night Express, The Pretty Boy Killers and War Machine to become the new number one contenders. Adam Cole defended the ROH World Championship against his longtime rival Michael Elgin in what is to date the last match the two ever against each other. Donovan Dijak received his first title shot in Ring of Honor, challenging Bobby Fish for the ROH World Television Championship. Following the announcement of the creation of the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship, the tournament to determine the first holders kicked off with ACH, KUSHIDA and Jay White teaming up to defeat the trio of The Briscoes and Toru Yano and become the first team to advance to the semifinals. After being betrayed by his one-time friends Los Ingobernables de Japón [ROH TV: Ep. #260 - taped 8/20/16], Jay Lethal took on IWGP Intercontinental Champion Tetsuya Naito in a grudge match. Kyle O'Reilly and Adam Page squared off in their only singles match ever against each other. And Kamaitachi faced his former CMLL rival and the man who cost him his mask, the debuting Dragon Lee. |

 Today in Ring of Honor History: October 1- 2005: Ring of Honor held "Joe vs. Kobashi" in New York, NY. The show kicked off the partnership between ROH and Pro Wrestling NOAH, and saw Samoa Joe take on the legendary Kenta Kobashi. Easily one of the greatest matches in Ring of Honor history, and regarded by many as the greatest, the dream match was the second Ring of Honor match to receive the full five snowflakes from Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer. After a two year absence, Tony Mamaluke made his return to ROH to team with Sal Rinauro, and in a shocking upset the duo defeated BJ Whitmer and Jimmy Jacobs to become the new ROH Tag Team Champions. Nigel McGuinness made another successful defense of the ROH Pure Championship, retaining against former champion Jay Lethal. Former ROH World Champion James Gibson kicked off his final weekend in Ring of Honor before returning to the WWE by facing his longtime friend Jimmy Yang, who was making his ROH debut after being future endeavored by WWE. The war between Generation Next and The Embassy continued with Roderick Strong taking on Jimmy Rave in a grudge match. After months of abuse, the match saw Jade Chung finally stand up for herself and leave The Embassy, aligning herself with Generation Next. On the plus side, The Embassy did leave with a new tradition, as for the first time the fans showed their respect for "The Crown Jewel" by throwing toilet paper at him. Meanwhile, Generation Next member Jack Evans made his return after three and a half months away, taking on Homicide. The match was made easier for Evans as near the end Homicide's hated enemy Colt Cabana appeared on the balcony to rap about "The Notorious 187" and cost him the match. The concert was Cabana's payback for earlier in the evening, when Homicide had several Rottweiler thugs appear in the crowd to distract Cabana during his first ever match with with newcomer Claudio Castagnoli. Homicide's Rottweiler stablemate Ricky Reyes began a mission of personally destroying students from the ROH Wrestling Academy, starting with Pelle Primeau. And future co-holders of the ROH Tag Team Championship Christopher Daniels and Matt Sydal faced off against each other for the first time in Ring of Honor, competing in a Three-Way Elimination match involving Azrieal. - 2010: ROH began another round of HDNet tapings in Philadelphia, PA. With Ring of Honor now under the booking regime of Delirious and Jim Cornette, the two-night tapings would see a sizable turnover of the roster, with several wrestlers departing the promotion while others began fulltime with the lock room. The group most affected by this was The Embassy, and the writing was on the wall as they went 0-3 for the evening. Necro Butcher came up short when challenging Eddie Edwards for the ROH World Television Championship, while Erick Stevens lost a number one contendership match for the TV title to Colt Cabana, and lastly Shawn Daivari falling to Davey Richards. The biggest name that ended up being on the chopping block was former two-time ROH World Champion Austin Aries, who teamed with Rhett Titus for what ended up being to date his last match ever against The Briscoes. Thus two weeks after their "feud ending" match, The All-Night Express and the Briscoes faced off one last time in another number one contenders match, with the Briscoes walking away with a title shot for the ROH World Tag Team Championship at "Final Battle 2011" [12/23/11]. Meanwhile, the reigning ROH World Tag Team Champions Wrestling Greatest Tag Team tried to stave off another challenger when they faced Caprice Coleman and Cedric Alexander in a Proving Ground match. As would be a frequent occurrence during his reign, ROH World Champion Davey Richards competed in a tag team match that night instead of defending his title, teaming with his American Wolves' partner Eddie Edwards to face The House of Truth. The match was both Roderick Strong and Michael Elgin's second of the evening, with Strong having previously faced Kyle O'Reilly while Elgin squashed Shiloh Jonze. ROH World Television Champion Jay Lethal was the lone champion to put his belt on the line that night, being taken to a 15-minute time limit draw by Mike Bennett. The Young Bucks wrestled their first TV match for Ring of Honor in well over a year and a half [ROH on HDNet: Ep. #48 - taped 1/9/10], squaring off with the Bravado Brothers. TJ Perkins began his one year run in ROH by wrestling Mike Mondo. And Tommaso Ciampa won a squash match over OVW's Alex Silva. - 2016: ROH held a television taping in Lowell, MA. After a rocky six-year run that saw him slowly rise to become ROH World Champion only to quickly fall back down and lose the title, Michael Elgin's Ring of Honor career came to an end when he had what would be his last match, facing New Japan's Toru Yano. Dragon Lee, one day removed from his debut, quickly put himself into title contention by defeating ROH World Television Champion Bobby Fish in a Proving Ground match. After promising it for months, Matt Taven made good on his word of rebuilding The Kingdom in his own image by recruiting fellow New England wrestlers Vinny Marseglia and the debuting TK O'Ryan. The new Kingdom quickly went about establishing themselves by besting the former Kingdom leader, ROH World Champion Adam Cole, and his Bullet Club partners, ROH World Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks, in an opening round match of the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship Tournament. Meanwhile, The Cabinet advanced in the tournament over Coast 2 Coast and Jason Kincaid, but came up short against ACH, KUSHIDA and Jay White later in the semifinals. Jay Lethal and Silas Young met in a rematch from "Reloaded Tour 2016: Lockport, NY" [9/17/16], with Lethal once against coming out on top. Technical wrestlers Kyle O'Reilly and Jonathan Gresham squared off with each other, and Donovan Dijak squashed Danny Miles. The remainder of the tapings was largely tag team match. The Briscoes faced the Bullet Clubs' Adams (Adam Cole and Adam Page); the Motor City Machine Guns took on Tetsuya Naito and EVIL of Los Ingobernables de Japón; War Machine fought The Pretty Boy Killers in a battle of the big men; the new team of Colt Cabana and Dalton Castle picked up a win over The Tempura Boyz; and after repeatedly getting beaten up on recent shows, Cheeseburger and Will Ferrara tried to stand up for themselves in a match against BJ Whitmer and Punishment Martinez, who were joined by their leader Kevin Sullivan. - 2021: ROH aired their latest episode of television, coming to you not from Baltimore, MD, but from Ring of Honor's original home of Philadelphia, PA.  Today in Ring of Honor History: October 2- 2004: Ring of Honor held "Midnight Express Reunion" in Philadelphia, PA. The show was named for the special appearance of the three members of the classic Midnight Express, Dennis Condrey, Bobby Eaton and Stan Lane, as well as their manager Jim Cornette. Not content to be outshone, Prince Nana decided to crash their party with one-half The Midnight Express' biggest rivals, Ricky Morton of The Rock 'n' Roll Express. In the main event, Bryan Danielson, who despite having been in ROH since the debut show ["The Era of Honor Begins" - 2/23/02], received what was his very first shot at the ROH World Championship, challenging Samoa Joe (in one of the greatest matches of his reign). The Rottweiler's Ricky Reyes and Rocky Romero made another successful defense of the ROH Tag Team Championship, retaining against Dixie and Angel Dust of Special K. The loss caused further divide in Special K, instigated largely at the hands of Izzy's girlfriend Lacey. For the second and final time, all four original members of Generation Next teamed together in one match, competing in an Eight-Man Elimination Tag against Ricky Steamboat's team of CM Punk and Ace Steel of the Second City Saints, ROH Pure Champion John Walters, and Jimmy Jacobs. While Elimination Tag Team matches typically end with only one wrestler remaining, Generation Next would win the match with Alex Shelley and Austin Aries still standing. Despite this being obvious proof of their effectiveness working together, cracks in their alliance began to show when following the match both wrestlers announced their intentions of challenging for the ROH World Championship. Homicide faced Nigel McGuinness in a singles match to determine the number one contender for the ROH Pure Championship, while his Rottweilers partner Low Ki took on Jay Lethal for the first time ever. And Jimmy Rave won a Four Corner Survival match over BJ Whitmer, Trent Acid, and former Embassy member Josh Daniels. Before the main show, ROH held a bonus show during that afternoon's special convention. Already set to compete in the Eight-Man Elimination Tag Team match later that evening, Alex Shelley first challenged John Walters for the ROH Pure Championship. Special K's losing streak continued when Deranged and Cloudy were bested by The Ring Crew Express. The ROH Wrestling Academy's first class made their pro wrestling debuts, with Davey Andrews taking on their trainer CM Punk, Shane Hagadorn and Matt Turner teaming with Jesse Robinson in a handicap match against the Carnage Crew, and Anthony Franco and Evan Starsmore competing in a losing effort against Steve Corino's students Alex Law and Ricky Landell. And future ROH World Television Champion and multi-time ROH World Tag Team Champion Bobby Fish, then known as Jerk Jackson, teamed with Scott Cardinal against Rockin' Rebel and Greg Matthews. - 2005: ROH held "Unforgettable" in Philadelphia, PA. The show ended up being ironically named, as it and more specifically the main event of Samoa Joe and Low Ki teaming up to face Kenta Kobashi and Homicide is consistently forgotten about due to being overshadowed by the Joe/Kobashi singles match the night before. Besides the inclusion of the legendary Kobashi, the match is notable for being the only time Homicide and Low Ki wrestled against each other in ROH. Former ROH World Champion James Gibson made his final appearance in Ring of Honor, taking on his real life mentee Roderick Strong. Following the match, Strong would adopt Gibson's finishing move, the Tiger Driver, as his own finisher, renaming it the "Gibson Driver" in tribute. New ROH Tag Team Champions Tony Mamaluke and Sal Rinauro made their first title defense, facing The Ring Crew Express. Meanwhile the former champions BJ Whitmer and Jimmy Jacobs were revealed to be the new Lacey's Angels, with the first task from their new manager Lacey being to destroy the old Lacey's Angels. Thus ended the last remnant of Special K, which had existed since ROH's fifth show ["Crowning a Champion" - 7/27/02], and brought an end to the Ring of Honor careers of Izzy, Deranged, Cheech and Cloudy (though Cheech and Cloudy would make frequent appearances years later as Up in Smoke). The Generation Next/Embassy war rolled on with Matt Sydal squaring off with Jimmy Rave. One night after helping him defeat Homicide, Colt Cabana took on Jack Evans in the only singles match the two have ever had against each other. Christopher Daniels wrestled Jimmy Yang, Jay Lethal won a Four Corner Survival match over ROH Pure Champion Nigel McGuinness, Claudio Castagnoli and Davey Andrews, and Ricky Reyes murdered another ROH Wrestling Academy student, Derek Dempsey. The death of Dempsey, while tragic, served a purpose, as it brought about the surprise appearance of Paul Bearer, who teased being the promised new Ring of Honor Commissioner...before Jim Cornette came to out to reveal he was in fact the Commissioner. - 2010: ROH finished their latest round of HDNet tapings in Philadelphia, PA. The taping would mark the end of several wrestlers' tenure in Ring of Honor, most notable former two-time ROH World Champion Austin Aries, who in his last match wrestled his former tag team partner turned longtime rival ROH World Champion Roderick Strong, in what ended up being their last match ever against each other. The current iteration of The Embassy, which had been going strong since the 2009 revival ["7th Anniversary" - 3/21/09], came to an end when Prince Nana lost all three of his active wrestlers: Necro Butcher, Erick Stevens and Shawn Daivari. In his final appearance, Necro faced Homicide in a Butcher's Rules match, while Stevens took on one of his first rivals in ROH, Davey Richards. Daivari, on the other hand, spent his last night in Ring of Honor competing in a dark match against Tony Kozina. The Dark City Fight Club's time also came to an end, with Kory Chavis losing to Kevin Steen, while Jon Davis came up short against Rhett Titus. Elsewhere the business of Ring of Honor continued. After winning the number one contendership the night before, Colt Cabana challenged Eddie Edwards for the ROH World Television Championship in what ended up being his last shot for a singles title during his second ROH run. After having his mask stolen by Kevin Steen at "Glory by Honor IX" [9/11/10], a more intense El Generico returned wearing an all-black mask to face Steve Corino. The new tag team of Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly picked up a win over Grizzly Redwood and Mike Sydal, Taeler Hendrix made her main show in-ring debut against Daizee Haze, and Mike Bennett was poised to become a big deal fairly quick when he was interviewed by Jim Cornette and proclaimed 2011 would be the year of "The Prodigy". - 2020: ROH aired their latest episode of television from Baltimore, MD. The opening round matches of the ROH Pure Championship concluded with Tracy Williams facing the debuting Rust Taylor (a.k.a. Taylor Rust), while in the main even PJ Black squarred off with debuting future ROH World Television Champion Tony Deppen. |

 Today in Ring of Honor History: October 5- 2002: Ring of Honor held the inaugural "Glory by Honor" in Philadelphia, PA. The show is best remember for the debut of future ROH Hall of Famer Samoa Joe, who was brought in as The Prophecy's hired gun to face Low Ki in the first Fight Without Honor. While a Fight Without Honor usually contains a plethora of weapons and copious amounts of blood, the original version was just a traditional match that didn't require the competitors to adhere to the Code of Honor by shaking hands. As such, instead of chair shots and tables, Low Ki and Joe stuck with strikes and kicks in a hard hitting match. Initially Joe was only going to be booked for the one match, as the ROH office was hesitant of the cost of bringing in wrestlers from the West Coast, but his instant classic made them decide it was worth flying him in every show. While the "Glory by Honor" is most remember for Joe, he wasn't the only one to debut that night. As ROH's next show, "All-Star Extravaganza" [11/9/02], was set to take place the same day as Combat Zone Wrestling's "Night of Infamy", CZW owner John Zandig appeared on the show with ROH owner Rob Feinstein to announce the promotions would be presenting a double-shot, with ROH running in the afternoon to allow fans the opportunity to attend both shows. As part of the cooperation between the two promotions that night, CZW's The Backseat Boyz made their surprise debut to challenge Homicide just after he singlehandedly won a Tag Team Scramble match over Divine Storm, The SAT and Special K. Needing a partner, Homicide was joined by former ROH commentator Steve Corino, who was making his in-ring debut. The match would be the catalyst of Homicide and Corino's feud, which would end up lasting for four years ["The Bitter End" - 11/4/06]. Teaming with Homicide wouldn't be Corino's only match on the show, as after repeatedly burying Texas Wrestling Academy head trainer Rudy Boy Gonzalez on commentary, Corino faced off with him in a Texas Death match. Corino's sister Allison Danger also made her in-ring debut that night, teaming with the Christopher Street Connection in a Six-Man Tag Team match against Christian York, Joey Matthews and Alexis Laree, in what was her in-ring debut as well. Future Embassy member Fast Eddie Vegas made his ROH debut, defending the ETV Television Championship against fellow Texas Wrestling Academy student Don Juan. And rounding out the debuts that night was one that is among the most forgotten in ROH history, as The Outcast Killaz were squashed by the Insane Clown Posse. The match is forgettable mainly due to the fact that the segment was so bad, it was cut from the DVD. While the show saw a number of debuts, it also featured two farewells, as Spanky and James Maritato wrestled their final matches in ROH before joining WWE. Spanky's last match saw him compete in a Three-Way Elimination match against Michael Shane and Paul London, while Maritato faced his former tag team partner Tony Mamaluke in a match for the rights to "The F.B.I." gimmick. After gaining both the ROH Championship and ROH Tag Team Championship at "Unscripted" [9/21/02], The Prophecy risked everything when Christopher Daniels faced Doug Williams in the main event. If Daniels was victorious, Williams would be barred from shaking hands in ROH and thus continuously forced to break the Code of Honor, but if Daniels lost, The Prophecy would be forced to disband. Meanwhile The Prophecy was looking for an easy non-title win for new ROH Champion Xavier to demonstrate his dominance, and settled on Jay Briscoe after his brother Mark Briscoe proclaimed him the biggest loser in Ring of Honor. However, it backfired when Jay defeated the champion in an upset, resulting in him earning a title shot. Da Hit Squad's feud with the Carnage Crew saw them face off in a Street Fight. And The Amazing Red took on visiting Japanese wrestler Ikuto Hidaka. - 2007: ROH held "Honor Nation" in Boston, MA. The name was a takeoff of the Red Sox Nation, as Ring of Honor drew a packed house despite the show taking place during a Boston Red Sox postseason home game. In the main event, Kevin Steen received his first shot at the ROH World Championship in Ring of Honor, challenging Takeshi Morishima (Steen's first ROH World Championship match ever was against Austin Aries at an independent show in Canada on January 22, 2005). Unable to defend the ROH World Tag Team Championship due to Mark being injured, the initial match in the feud between The Briscoes and The Age of the Fall saw Jay Briscoe take on Necro Butcher in an "Anything Goes" match, the first of several hardcore brawls the two would have against each other. Following the conclusion of the match, Mark Briscoe was kidnapped by The Age of the Fall to build up Jay's match the following night, which was another "Anything Goes" match against Necro Butcher. For their part on the show, Age of the Fall's Jimmy Jacobs and Tyler Black won a squash match over Mitch Franklin and Ernie Osiris. Black was originally scheduled to compete in a Four Corner Survival match against El Generico, Hallowicked and Nigel McGuinness that took place early in the show, but he and The Age of the Fall were attacked by the Briscoes before it could start. As a result, the match was turned into a Three-Way that saw McGuinness emerge as the winner. Longtime rivals Austin Aries and Bryan Danielson kicked off a Best of Three Series to determine who is the "Ace" of Ring of Honor, with Aries walking away with the first victory. Faction warfare continued on the show, with Jigsaw becoming the third member of The Vulture Squad and teaming with them to defeat the No Remorse Corps in a Six-Man Tag Team match. The trio of Adam Pearce, Brent Albright and BJ Whitmer, now officially named The Hangmen 3, had a good night, as Pearce and Albright defeated Matt Cross and Erick Stevens of The Resilience, while Whitmer bested Delirious to get his first singles match victory since March ["Fifth Year Festival: Finale" - 3/4/07]. And former tag team partners turned enemies Claudio Castagnoli and Chris Hero met in their second singles match, with Castagnoli once again coming out on top. - 2013: ROH held "Charm City Challenge" in Baltimore, MD. The ongoing rivalry between ROH World Champion Adam Cole and Roderick Strong came to end when Cole retained his title in a No Disqualification match. The match was Strong's second of the evening, as earlier he'd won a Four Corner Survival match over Antonio Thomas, Caprice Coleman and Tadarius Thomas. After first teaming up as part of Team ROH in the feud against S.C.U.M., Jay Lethal and Michael Elgin's partnership began drawing to a close with them unsuccessfully challenging reDRagon for the ROH World Tag Team Championship. Matt Taven made his tenth title defense of the ROH World Television Championship, retaining against Cedric Alexander. With one win and one loss, Jimmy Jacobs's third match of his Trial Series found him facing off against Michael Bennett. Kevin Steen squared off with ACH, Eddie Edwards faced Adam Page, and Eddie Kingston teamed with his new friend against his old ones as Outlaw, Inc. took on BLK OUT (which marked the final ROH appearance of former Vulture Squad member Ruckus). - 2021: On Week by Week it was tryout time, as former CHIKARA wrestler Matt Makowski and Ativalu faced each other in their only match in ROH. |

 Today in Ring of Honor History: October 6- 2006: Ring of Honor held "Survival of the Fittest 2006" in Cleveland, OH. Due to ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson and Samoa Joe's opening round match ending in a time limit draw, the 2006 entry became the first Survival of the Fittest tournament to have the finals be a Five-Way Elimination match instead of the traditional Six-Way (the two-night 2015 tournament [11/13-11/14/15] also had a Five-Way finals due to Roderick Strong not being medically cleared after suffering a concussion). After advancing over Jimmy Rave in his first match, Delirious outlasted Austin Aries, Jay Briscoe, Mark Briscoe, and finally his longtime rival Matt Sydal to win the tournament. As Delirious never won a championship in ROH, winning Survival of the Fittest would be his highest achievement as a wrestler in Ring of Honor. The other participants in the tournament were Christopher Daniels, Davey Richards, and the duo of Homicide and 2005 winner Roderick Strong, who faced the Briscoes in a tag team qualifying match. Outside of the tournament, new ROH World Tag Team Champions the Kings of Wrestling made their first title defense, retaining against Colt Cabana and Jimmy Jacobs. And after two and a half years, the end was near for The Embassy as Jim Cornette informed Jimmy Rave he'd fired Prince Nana for trying to pull a powerplay on him. - 2007: ROH taped "Undeniable" for pay-per-view in Edison, NJ. As with their last two tapings, the first part of the show was recorded for pay-per-view while the second was filmed exclusively for DVD. In the main even of the pay-per-view, ROH World Champion Takeshi Moishima and Nigel McGuinness met in the final match of their trilogy ["Fighting Spirit" - 4/14/07; "Live in Tokyo" - 7/16/07]. Unlike the Joe/Punk and Danielson/Strong trilogies, this time the challenger walked away the winner as McGuinness finally became ROH World Champion. Immediately upon winning, McGuinness found himself beset by challengers, as Bryan Danielson tried to rain on Nigel's parade, resulting in him getting into an altercation with Austin Aries. For his part on the show, Danielson faced off against Chris Hero. Hero was originally scheduled to wrestle Claudio Castagnoli, but Larry Sweeney cancelled the match due to Ring of Honor low balling him, bumping Castagnoli off the pay-per-view. After making his return at "Driven" [6/23/07] and failing to get his hands on him during the Resilience/No Remorse Corps Best of Three Series at "Man Up" [9/14/07], the feud between former tag team partners Austin Aries and Roderick Strong finally came to a head (on pay-per-view) when they squared off with each other in a singles match. Due to the intense hostility between ROH World Tag Team Champions The Briscoes and The Age of the Fall, ROH officials decided to the two teams could not be booked on the same show together (at least as far as the pay-per-view portion of the show was concerned). As such, Jimmy Jacobs and Tyler Black faced The Vulture Squad's Jack Evans and Ruckus at the taping, while the Briscoes' match on the pay-per-view was a title defense against the No Remorse Corps' Davey Richards and Rocky Romero that took place at "Reckless Abandon" [11/30/07]. The Hangmen 3 tried to become "The Hangmen 4" by recruiting Kevin Steen, but he refused and teamed with Delirious and El Generico in a Six-Man Tag Team match against them. And Daizee Haze and Sara Del Rey faced off against each other in ROH's first women's match on pay-per-view. On the DVD portion of the show, Jay Briscoe and Necro Butcher completely ignored what the commentators said on the pay-per-view about The Briscoes and The Age of the Fall not being allowed in the same building, and fought each other in an "Anything Goes" match (which took place one day after their last "Anything Goes" match). Necro would win the match after Jay became distracted when The Age of the Fall brought out his kidnaped brother Mark Briscoe, who was bound in barbed wire. After being booted off the pay-per-view, Claudio Castagnoli faced the newest member of The Vulture Squad, Jigsaw. And The Resilience's Matt Cross and Erick Stevens came up short against Davey Richards and Rocky Romero in tag team match where the stipulation was the losing team would be suspended for 60 days. The loss in essence was the end of The Resilience, as midway through their suspension, their leader Austin Aries would disband the group ["Glory by Honor VI: Night Two" - 11/3/07]. Likewise the match was essentially the end of Matt Cross in Ring of Honor. While Aries continued to be a main eventer and Erick Stevens would return to feud with the likes Roderick Strong and Sweet n' Sour, Inc., after his suspension Cross would make only a handful of appearances, almost all of which found him on his back looking up at the lights. - 2012: ROH held "Killer Instinct" in Rahway, NJ. The show was named after Jay Lethal, who after weeks of trying to prove to Jim Cornette he had the killer instinct needed to win, challenged Kevin Steen for the ROH World Championship. As the show was taking place in Lethal's hometown, his family came out to support him, watching the show from the front row. Their presence there ended up backfiring, as Papa Lethal got so fired up by the match he threw his drink at Steen, which Steen retaliated to by spitting in Mama Lethal's face. That act enraged Lethal and caused him to snap, resulting in him attacking several referees and officials in an effort to get at Steen, with the match being ruled a no contest. The melee wasn't limited to in front of the curtain, as when they finally got Lethal backstage, he attacked Cornette and injured him. Thus the show was the start of what most fans had been wishing for for a long a time: the end of Jim Cornette in Ring of Honor. The injury angle wrote Cornette out as the on-screen authority figure for ROH, and was followed two days later by the news that he had stepped away from booking and was taking a reduced roll backstage. Cornette's new position wouldn't last long, as a month later he would be completely gone from Ring of Honor following a (justifiable) outburst at a television taping [11/3/12]. Meanwhile, the rest of the show was business as usual. S.C.U.M. made another successful defense of the ROH World Tag Team Championship, retaining in a Three-Way Elimination match over Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team and the duo of Rhett Titus and BJ Whitmer. ROH World Television Champion Adam Cole and his mentor Eddie Edwards teamed together for the final time in ROH, losing to The Briscoes. Davey Richards took on Mike Mondo in a rematch from their time limit draw at "The Nightmare Begins" [6/15/12]. Roderick Strong and Kyle O'Reilly squared off in the second of what would be only three singles match they'd have against each other in Ring of Honor. Michael Elgin picked up a victory over Mike Bennett in their first singles match together. The Bravado Brothers faced the popular CHIKARA tag team 3.0. And in the biggest impact of the show outside the departure of Jim Cornette, after random appearances from 2004 to 2009, future ROH World Television Champion and three-time ROH World Tag Team Champion Bobby Fish returned to defeat QT Marshall in what would be the start of a five-year run for him in Ring of Honor. - 2021: On Women's Division Wednesday, Chelsea Green took on Ashley Vox. |

 Today in Ring of Honor History: October 7- 2006: Ring of Honor held "Motor City Madness" in Detroit, MI. The show was headlined by a Falls Count Anywhere Street Fight between the duo of Samoa Joe and Homicide and The Briscoes. While the fight didn't make it all the way to the street, it did at least go to the parking lot, which is more than can be said about most Street Fights. As such, the match was highlighted by what would easily rank in one of Mark Briscoe's "Top 10 Craziest Dives", with him hitting a Shooting Star Press off the top of the ring truck. ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson racked up another successful title defense, retaining against his longtime rival Austin Aries. Christopher Daniels and Matt Sydal entered the ROH World Tag Team Championship picture when, after defeating Colt Cabana and Jimmy Jacobs in a tag match, Sydal challenged and defeated champion Chris Hero in a singles match. Hero's tag team partner Claudio Castagnoli was more fortunate, besting Davey Richards in their first ROH match together. Meanwhile, despite seemingly being focused on pleasing Lacey by making his new tag team with Colt Cabana work, Jimmy Jacobs' old partner wasn't done with him, as BJ Whitmer, who was still recovering from ankle surgery, made a surprise appearance by trying to attack Jacobs. Lacey showed that tag team partners really don't matter much to her, as she forced Allison Danger to take a bullet for her when they teamed together against Daizee Haze and MsChif. Delirious followed up his Survival of the Fittest win by defeating debuting former WWE star Zach Gowen. And Pelle Primeau scored his first main show win, pinning Jimmy Rave in a Six Man Mayhem match that included Dave Crist, Jake Crist, Top of the Class Trophy holder Shane Hagadorn, and the debuting Matt Cross. The loss brought things another step closer towards the end of The Embassy, as for what seemed like the first time in a very long time, Rave was not seconded to the ring by another Embassy member; and when asked backstage what the future holds for The Embassy now that Prince Nana is gone, Rave responded by throwing his Embassy robe into the trash. |
