Today in Ring of Honor History: August 28 - 2004: Ring of Honor held "Scramble Cage Melee" in Braintree, MA. The show was named after the main event, the first Scramble Cage Melee, a twelve-man elimination Steel Cage match. Unlike traditional elimination methods such as pinfalls or submissions, in Scramble Cage Melee the only way to eliminate an opponent is to hit a dive onto them from one of the four Scramble Cage platforms that rested on top of the cage. While an interesting concept in theory, apparently the logic was overlooked that every time someone was eliminated, the number of bodies available to cushion a wrestler's dive were lessened. Unsurprisingly there were a number of injuries suffered in the match (including one wrestler being forced to quit midway through as a result), and thus the first Scramble Cage Melee ended up being the only Scramble Cage Melee. Jack Evans would ultimately end up winning the car crash of a main event, outlasting the debuting Altar Boy Luke, Fast Eddie Vegas, Trent Acid, Loc and DeVito of the Carnage Crew, Diablo Santiago and Oman Tortuga of The Embassy (who can forever say they main evented in Ring of Honor), Dunn and Marcos of The Ring Crew Express, and Dan Maff and BJ Whitmer, who were ordered into the match by Allison Danger as revenge for leaving The Prophecy. The win capped off a successful night for Generation Next, who went 3-1 in their matches. Alex Shelley defeated Jay Lethal in a singles match stemming from their Four Corner Survival at "Testing the Limit" [8/7/04], while as part of the Second City Saints/Generation Next feud, Austin Aries came out on top in his first singles match against Colt Cabana in Ring of Honor. The match would be Cabana's last in ROH for several months, as later in the show he would suffer a shoulder injury during a brawl between the Saints and GeNext, keeping him out until December ["All-Star Extravaganza 2" - 12/4/40] (in truth, Cabana was written out to go on an extended tour in the UK). Roderick Strong would be the lone loser for Generation Next that night, coming up short against Second City Saint member Ace Steel. The Saints' leader CM Punk, meanwhile, found himself preoccupied with other business, as he took on ROH World Champion Samoa Joe and Homicide in a non-title Three-Way match to determine who was the "Icon" of Ring of Honor. The match came about due to the chaotic brawl at "Testing the Limits", and was originally scheduled to be Joe and Punk teaming together against Homicide and his Rottweilers partner Low Ki, but with Low Ki sometimes acting like Low Ki, the match was changed. Homicide would walk away the winner after pinning Joe, a small consolation for him as the match was announced to be the final encounter the two would have against each other in ROH in 2004. Hometown wrestler John Williams defeated Doug Williams to win the ROH Pure Championship, while new ROH Tag Team Champions Ricky Reyes and Rocky Romero were more successful in their first title defense, retaining against former champions Izzy and Dixie of Special K. Special K's losing streak continued in singles action as well, as Angel Dust was defeated by Jimmy Rave. All in all it was a rough night for Special K, as in addition to the two title losses, Izzy's new girlfriend, the debuting Lacey, was quickly causing problems, getting into a fight with Becky Bayless and starting a rift in the faction. - 2010: ROH held "Tag Wars 2010" in Charlotte, NC. The show was named after the finals of Tag Wars 2010 which saw the Kings of Wrestling retain the ROH World Tag Team Championship in an Ultimate Endurance match against the three finalists, The All-Night Express, The Briscoes, and the Dark City Fight Club. Besides being the last Ultimate Endurance match in Ring of Honor history, the match was the Briscoe's final shot at the Tag titles during the Kings' reign, as well as The All-Night Express' second ever shot at the titles, and their first in will over a year ["Insanity Unleashed" - 3/14/09]. Despite being the namesake of the show, the finals of Tag Wars was not the main event, as that spot went to the last ever match between Davey Richards and ROH World Champion Tyler Black, who met in a non-title match. That match reached Doctor Who-levels of wibbly wobbly timey wimey-ness, as while in actuality it was the third match of their 2010 trilogy and a rematch to their HDNet showdown [taped 8/21/10], but in kayfabe it was a rematch to their ROH World title main event at "Death Before Dishonor VIII" [6/19/10] and the setup for their HDNet "final showdown". Colt Cabana came up short in his non-title match against ROH World Television Champion Eddie Edwards, while his tag team partner El Generico came out on top in a singles match against The Embassy's Erick Stevens. Both then had enough time on their hand to prevent their hated enemy Kevin Steen from cheating his way to victory in a match against the number one contender for the ROH World Championship, Roderick Strong (not that he was grateful for their help). Where things last stood, Strong was #1 in the Pick 6 Contender Series while Steen was ranked #4, and were the match to have taken a place a few weeks prior, it most likely would have been for Strong's #1 ranking. However, now with the new booking regime of Delirious and Jim Cornette, the Pick 6 system was quietly retired, ending less than a year after its inception. Grizzly Redwood looked to prove he was not a novelty act when he took on Necro Butcher in a Butcher's Rules match, Steve Corino squared off with Bobby Dempsey, and local wrestler Cedric Alexander went 2-0 in his debut weekend when he teamed with the Bravado Brothers in a Six-Man Tag Team win over Jake Manning, Caleb Konley and Marker Dillinger.

Today in Ring of Honor History: August 29 - 2015: Ring of Honor kicked off the "Reloaded Tour 2015" in Atlanta, GA. Seemingly done with The Kingdom, Adam Cole's reformed friendship with Kyle O'Reilly saw them team with O'Reilly's reDRagon partner Bobby Fish to defeat the ROH World Champion and ROH World Television Champion Jay Lethal and his partners ROH World Tag Team Champions The Addiction in a Six-Man Tag Team match. The Cole-less Kingdom, meanwhile, found themselves taking on Will Ferrara and Takaaki Watanabe. After former ROH Word Champion Jay Briscoe and Moose's singles match against each other was interrupted, the two teamed up to take on Cedric Alexander and Adam Page. The match was Alexander and Page's second of the evening respectively, as earlier Alexander bested Corey Hollis while Page took on Michael Elgin. War Machine squared off with Matt Sydal and ACH, Roderick Strong met Caprice Coleman in a singles match, and Mark Briscoe issued an open challenge that was answered by The Romantic Touch. Originally Mark was scheduled to face the returning Cliff Compton, but Compton had to be taken to the hospital earlier in the day after suffering a seizure in the locker room. Former Special K member and current AEW wrestler Slim J returned to Ring of Honor for the first time in over eleven years, taking on Mike "P Dog" Posey in a pre-show match. And Stevie Richards made his return after his random one-time appearance ten years prior ["Back to Basics" - 3/12/05], setting up his in-ring debut against Jay Lethal the following month ["Proving Ground Tour 2015: Lockport, NY" - 9/26/15].

Today in Ring of Honor History: September 1 - 2018: Cody and The Young Bucks, with the assistance of Ring of Honor, presented "All In" in Chicago, IL. The idea for the show came about in response to Dave Meltzer stating no promotion outside of WWE could draw 10,000 people in the United States. Cody and the Bucks took that as a challenge, and not only ended up selling out in less than 30 minutes, but ultimately drew more than 11,000 fans, making it the largest non-WWE show in years. The show was both a blessing and a curse for ROH, as while the build for the successful event largely took part on their shows and utilized much of their top talent, it also caught the eye of Tony Khan, who ended up signing away much of that talent to form All Elite Wrestling a few months later. On the show, Cody defeated Nick Aldis to win the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, a title once held by his father, the legendary Dusty Rhodes, while in the main event The Young Bucks teamed with New Japan's Kota Ibushito defeat Rey Mysterio, Rey Fenix and Bandido in a Six-Man Tag Team match. That match ended up going a hell of a lot shorter than anyone expected, including the participants, due to Marty Scurll and Kazuchika Okada going longer than planned in their first and only singles match. Reigning IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega, who was undergoing a grueling schedule in New Japan, hoped being best friends with the Bucks would get him an easy match on the show, but instead he got booked in a semi-main event singles match against that hardcore guy from TNA, Penta El Zero M. Adam Page took on Joey Janela in a Street Fight that not only saw the use of an actual Cracker Barrel barrel, but also the resurrection of famous dick wrestler Joey Ryan, who Page was suspected of murdering (in hindsight, Ryan probably just should've stayed "dead"). After months and months of trying to get booked for the show, Flip Gordon finally achieved his goal and conned his way on by disguising himself as the legendary Chico El Luchador and winning the pre-show Battle Royal (last eliminating his ROH rival Bully Ray). Thus despite Cody's efforts to keep him off the show, Gordon ended up wrestling the most matches on "All In", as by winning the Battle Royal, Flip earned his first ever shot at the ROH World Championship, challenging Jay Lethal. Christopher Daniels took on " Wal-Mart Batman Green Arrow" actor Stephen Amell in a match guest refereed by former ECW and ROH World Champion Jerry Lynn. Tessa Blanchard won a Four-Way match over Britt Baker, Chelsea Green and Madison Rayne, longtime indy veteran Matt Cross faced cocky rising star Maxwell Jacob Friedman, and despite it being the worst town they'd ever been in, Frankie Kazarian and Scorpio Sky were probably glad not to be in SoCal as they kicked off the evening with a victory over The Briscoes. Commentated by ROH's Ian Riccaboni, New Japan's Don Callis and PWG's Excalibur, the show also saw numerous guest appearances by the likes of Diamond Dallas Page, Glacier, Jeff Jarrett and Road Warrior Animal, among others. - 2021: Shannon "Daffney" Spruill, who had a brief run in Ring of Honor in 2003 as CM Punk's girlfriend Lucy Furr and later managed/teamed with MsChif as part of The Scream Queens in ROH's sister promotion SHIMMER, took her own life at the age 46.

Today in Ring of Honor History: September 3 - 2002: Ring of Honor aired the debut episode of their very first television show, High Impact TV, on WGTW 48, the former home of ECW's Hardcore TV. Like Hardcore TV, High Impact TV utilized footage from ROH's past live shows, as well as new promos building towards upcoming shows. The series lasted for twenty episodes before being cancelled in January 2003, with shows near the end featuring matches from other promotions [the final match shown was Homicide vs. Low Ki from UPW's "All Hell Breaks Loose" - 1/11/02]. The debut episode had three matches: Da Hit Squad vs. Christopher Street Connection ["The Era of Honor Begins" - 2/23/02], Xavier vs. James Maritato ["Round Robin Challenge" - 3/30/02], and the match that put Ring of Honor on the map, Bryan Danielson vs. Christopher Daniels vs. Low Ki ["The Era of Honor Begins"]. Episode breakdowns for High Impact TV: sites.google.com/site/rattslistings/match-listings/roh/roh-high-impact-tv- 2021: ROH aired their latest episode of television from Baltimore, MD. The finals of the ROH Women's World Championship Tournament were set when Miranda Alize defeated Trish Adora in one semifinal match, while Rok-C defeated her second former WOH World Champion, Angelina Love, in the other match. And probably feeling a bit left out (as well as having a score to settle with Kenny King), Shane Taylor Promotions entered the ongoing faction warfare with all four members taking on La Facción Ingobernable in an Eight-Man Tag Team match. The match was taped before Rush suffered a knee injury "Glory by Honor XVIII: Night 2" [8/21/21], and as such featured the final appearance of the former two-time ROH World Champion in the pre-Tony Khan Ring of Honor.

Thanks for the info on High Impact TV. I haven't looked in many years, but I remember looking for information on the show years ago and couldn't find much proof that it even existed. The only reason I knew it was ever a thing is because certain event DVD's would have bonus matches from the show.

Today in Ring of Honor History: September 5 - 2003: Ring of Honor held "Beating the Odds" in Wakefield, MA. After six months of fighting, Raven and CM Punk returned to where their feud began to end things once and for all in ROH's first ever cage match, a "Clockwork Orange House of Fun" match. As with their "feud ending" Dog Collar match at "Death Before Dishonor" [7/19/03], their "feud ending" cage match failed to end the feud. To say the weapons-filled cage match fell short of expectations would be an understatement, as the 30-minute match was edited down to just under 12-minutes for the DVD release. Raven and Punk ended up having a second traditional cage match nearly three months later ["The Conclusion" - 11/28/03], which would finally bring about the end of their feud. The main event would not be the only match to be edited down for the DVD, as multiple matches on the show had unnecessary cutaways to unrelated promos and backstage footage. One such instance was a cutaway to a pre-show brawl between Homicide and Trent Acid. As a result of the brawl, Homicide withdrew from his scheduled match against ROH World Champion Samoa Joe to take on Acid in a rematch from their Fight Without Honor at "Wrestlerave 2003" [6/28/03]. That match, which brought about an end to their feud, was Acid's second of the evening, as earlier in the show he teamed with Johnny Kashmere to defeat The Ring Crew Express, The S.A.T. and Special K in a Tag Team Scramble match. As Christopher Daniels, the holder of the Number One Contender's Trophy, was unavailable that night due to a prior booking, ROH needed a new plan for what do with ROH World Champion Samoa Joe and future challengers, and as a result they ended up creating what was essentially a prototype for the Defy or Deny match. Joe competed in a non-title Four Corner Survival match with AJ Styles (in what was their first ever meeting), Chris Sabin and Jay Briscoe, with the stipulation being that if Styles, Sabin or Jay won they would get a future shot at the title, while if Joe won, the person he defeated would be barred from challenging for the title for the remainder of Joe's reign. Jay would win the match by pinning Joe, kicking off the six-month long feud between Joe and the Briscoes. Mark Briscoe, meanwhile, took on BJ Whitmer in what was their only singles match ever against each other. The Field of Honor tournament (which was basically an eight-man version of the G1 or Best of the Super Juniors) kicked off, with John Walters taking on Matt Striker in the first match for Block A, while Block B began with Colt Cabana and Jimmy Rave facing each other for the first time ever. Special K took on the Carnage Crew in a Six-Man Tag Team match, and not only did they lose the match, they lost their muscle as well, as an accidental dropkick on Slugger resulted in him quitting as their bodyguard and joining Julius Smoke's often forgotten 2003 version of The Rottweilers. And in what has to be the cheesiest thing ever done in Ring of Honor, after their interviews of people who were actually backstage at the show yielded no results, ROH owner and amateur detective Rob Feinstein made an appeal to the fans watching the DVD to go to ROH's website to report any information they have on who attacked Lucy Furr backstage at "Wrath of the Racket" [8/9/03]. - 2013: ROH held "The Road to Greatness: Night 1" in East Ridge, TN. The main event saw future foes have to work together as the four semifinalists in the ROH World Championship Tournament faced off in a tag team match, with Kevin Steen and Michael Elgin taking on Adam Cole and Tommaso Ciampa. ROH World Tag Team Champions reDRagon split up to take on C&C Wrestle Factory in singles matches, with Kyle O'Reilly squaring off with Cedric Alexander, while Bobby Fish faced Caprice Coleman. ROH World Television Champion Matt Taven found himself in the ring with former ROH World Champion Davey Richards, but luckily for him it was non-title. Future ROH World Tag Team Champion Raymond Rowe made his second Ring of Honor appearance, taking on Roderick Strong. Jay Lethal met Luke Hawx, Adrenaline RUSH wrestled Alabama Attitude, and Cheeseburger tangled with QT Marshall. - 2014: ROH held "All-Star Extravaganza VI" in Toronto, ON. After a long, slow push towards the title and an historic win on Ring of Honor's first live traditional pay-per-view ["Best in the World 2014" - 6/22/14], Michael Elgin's ROH World Championship reign came to a sudden and shocking end after just two and a half months when he was defeated by Jay Briscoe, who became only the second two-time champion. The match was the beginning of Elgin's downfall in Ring of Honor, as news sites were filled with reports of him falling out with ROH management, rumors of work visa issues, and gossip about him leaving wrestling for baseball. Though Elgin would remain in ROH for two more years, he would never again be used as prominently. What added to the shock of the title change was that it was not the main event of the show, as that spot went to reDRagon defending the ROH World Tag Team Championship against The Young Bucks in a Two out of Three Falls match to cap off their 2014 trilogy ["Raising the Bar: Night #2" - 3/8/14; "War of the Worlds" - 5/17/14]. ROH World Television Champion Jay Lethal racked up another successful defense by defeating Cedric Alexander. AJ Styles squared off with Adam Cole in a first time ever dream match. The Addiction took on The Decade, Mark Briscoe faced Hanson, and #TheNewStreak continued when RD Evans teamed with Moose to win a Four-Way Tag Team match over Monster Mafia, BJ Whitmer and Adam Page, and Caprice Coleman and Takaaki Watanabe. Kingdom member Michael Bennett teased the return of "Matt", and Tommaso Ciampa was still angry after failing to win the ROH World Championship at "Death Before Dishonor XII: Night 2" [8/23/14]. - 2019: ROH partnered with CMLL to kick off the "Global Wars Espectacular" tour in Dearborn, MI. Just as ROH's "Global Wars" shows with New Japan put an emphasis on Japanese wrestlers, the "Espectacular" version put an emphasis in luchadores. In the main event, Bandido scored what was then the biggest win in his Ring of Honor career when he defeated former two-time ROH World Champion and then-reigning ROH World Tag Team Champion Jay Briscoe in a singles match. ROH World Champion Matt Taven teamed up with his Kingdom stablemate Vincent Marseglia in a losing effort against CMLL's Stuka, Jr. and Volador, Jr. Villain Enterprises rolled together in full force to take on El Barbaro Cavernario, Hechicero, Okumura and Rey Bucanero in an Eight-Man Tag Team match. And Rush made short work of CMLL's Triton. In non-lucha action, Kenny King defeated Jeff Cobb and Tracy Williams in a Three-Way match to become the number one contender for the ROH World Television Championship. Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham come out on top in a tag team match against Dalton Castle and newcomer Joe Hendry. Mark Haskins faced Rhett Titus, Silas Young teamed with Josh Woods to continue his feud with his former friends The Bouncers, and Dak Draper defeated The Haitian Sensation to advance to the finals of the 2019 Top Prospect Tournament.

Today in Ring of Honor History: September 7 - 2013: Ring of Honor held "The Road to Greatness: Night 2" in Birmingham, AL, their first and only show in Alabama. Two weeks out from his date with destiny at "Death Before Dishonor XI" [9/20/13], Adam Cole still had a lingering issue to deal with, facing his rival Roderick Strong in the second ever Ringmaster's Challenge match. The other remaining semifinalists in the ROH World Championship Tournament also found themselves competing in singles matches, with varying degrees of difficulty. Michael Elgin took on a fellow heavy hitter in the former of Raymond Rowe, while Tommaso Ciampa squared off against Luke Hawx. Kevin Steen, meanwhile, clearly had an uphill battle, yet somehow managed to bring QT Marshall's impressive 1-0 winning streak to a shocking end. In a reversal of what fans would see a lot of in 2014, Jay Lethal had to overcome the repeated interference of The House of Truth to defeat ROH World Television Champion Matt Taven in a Proving Ground match. On the other hand, ROH World Tag Team Champions reDRagon were successful in holding off Adrenaline RUSH, Alabama Attitude and C&C Wrestle Factory in a Proving Ground: Instant Reward Four-Way Tag Team match. And after taking a shortcut to victory, Davey Richards warned Michael Bennett he just started a war. Fortunately for Bennett, though, that war never came. - 2019: ROH with CMLL continued the "Global Wars Espectacular" tour in Villa Park, IL. To date, the show was Ring of Honor's last in the Chicago area, which had been one of their biggest markets since 2004. In the main event, the feud between LifeBlood and Villain Enterprises came to a head when they met in a Six-Man Street Fight. The Villain Enterprises leader, Marty Scurll, did not participate, as he instead competed in a Four Corner Survival match with Dalton Castle, Kenny King and the eventual winner, Chicago's own Colt Cabana. The Street Fight was PCO and Brody King's second match of the evening, as due to the end of the partnership between the ROH and NWA, they dropped the NWA World Tag Team Championship to Royce Isaacs and Thomas Latimer in a pre-show match. Matt Taven made another successful defense of the ROH World Championship, retaining against CMLL's Volador, Jr. ROH World Tag Team Champions The Briscoes came out on top in a Three-Way Tag Team match against The Bouncers and the duo of Hechicero and Rey Bucanero, while ROH World Television Champion Shane Taylor got taken to a time limit draw in a Proving Ground match by Joe Hendry. The "J-Team" of Jay Lethal, Jeff Cobb and Jonathan Gresham were successful in a Six-Man Tag Team match against Caristico, Stuka, Jr. and Triton. Rush remained undefeated in singles action with a win over El Barbaro Cavernario. PJ Black teamed with Okumura to face Silas Young and Josh Woods, Austin Gunn defeated Dante Caballero to advance to the finals of the 2019 Top Prospect Tournament, and Maria Manic was once again denied in giving Angelina Love the ass kicking she so richly deserved.

Today in Ring of Honor History: September 8 - 2012: Ring of Honor held "Caged Hostility" in Charlotte, NC. The show was named after the main event, which saw The Briscoes team up with Rhett Titus to defeat S.C.U.M. in a Steel Cage match. Absent from Ring of Honor since "Best in the World 2012: Hostage Crisis" [6/24/12] while appearing frequently on new sites for increasingly unprofessional behavior with Tony Kozina and Kyle O'Reilly (most notably allegations of physically threatening an indy promotor to give them their full pay after he cancelled their booking as they were driving to the show), former ROH World Champion Davey Richards made a special appearance to apologize for his recent behavior and vowing to do better. Unfortunately it did no good for ROH World Television Champion Adam Cole, who lost a Proving Ground match to Kyle O'Reilly due in large part to Richards, who was sitting ringside for their match. With the end of Roderick Strong's strike ["Boiling Point 2012" - 8/11/12], Truth Martini hoped the recent friction in The House of Truth was at an end, but that proved not to be the case when they took on Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team. Jay Lethal took on newcomer Adam Page in a singles match, and used it as an opportunity to try to prove to Jim Cornette he has what it takes to face Kevin Steen for the ROH World Championship. The Bravado Brothers squared off with Caprice Coleman and Cedric Alexander, Mike Mondo faced ROH's newest contracted wrestler QT Marshall, and Mike Posey wrestled Jeff Lewis Neal. - 2019: ROH and CMLL closed out the "Global Wars Espectacular" tour in Milwaukee, WI. In the main event, former ROH World Television Champion Jeff Cobb and Rush teamed up to defeat ROH World Television Champion Matt Taven and Vincent Marseglia. After three years of fighting side by side as The Kingdom, that match ended up being the final time Taven and Marseglia teamed together in Ring of Honor. ROH Word Television Champion Shane Taylor defended his title against local wrestler Dysfunction, and was so disgruntled with how he's been used of late that he vowed to give Dysfunction the title if he could last for just five minutes. ROH World Tag Team Champions The Briscoes teamed with CMLL's El Barbaro Cavernario in a Six-Man Tag Team match, but came up short against LifeBlood. WOH World Champion Kelly Klein wrestled her first Ring of Honor match in over a month, teaming with Stacy Shadows to defeat The Allure. Silas Young seemed to be having a good 40th birthday as he not only teamed with Josh Woods to defeat Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham in his hometown, but also appeared to make peace with his former friends The Bouncers. However, it ended up being a ruse, as Silas joined up with Vincent Marseglia to give them a brutal beatdown. Meanwhile, the partnership of Lethal and Gresham seemed to have reached its breaking point with their tag team loss, with the two coming to blows post match. Joe Henry also had issues in his new partnership with Dalton Castle, as Castle came out to distract Henry and cost him his match against Marty Scurll. PJ Black won a Three-Way match over Flip Gordon and Triton. Caristico, Stuka, Jr. and Volador, Jr. took on Okumura, Hechicero and Bucanero in a CMLL Six-Man Tag Team match. And former friends Rhett Titus and Kenny King took pot shots at each other in a war of words backstage.

Today in Ring of Honor History: September 10 - 2009: Ring of Honor returned for another round of HDNet tapings in Philadelphia, PA. The big news heading into the tapings was that former ROH World Champions Bryan Danielson and Nigel McGuinness had agreed in principle to sign with WWE and would be finishing up in ROH. Danielson kicked off what was dubbed "The Final Countdown Tour" by teaming with Roderick Strong in a non-title match against ROH World Tag Team Champions The American Wolves, while McGuinness wrestled his former rival and sometimes tag team partner Colt Cabana for the final time. Despite the impending loss of two of its biggest stars, the business of ROH had to continue. Future frequent adversaries The Briscoes and The Young Bucks squared off against each other for the first time ever, and perhaps fittingly in hindsight, neither team came out on top over the other thanks to interference from the Dark City Fight Club. With their rivals the Wolves busy with Danielson and Strong, Kevin Steen and El Generico occupied their evening by wrestling The Super Smash Bros. Claudio Castagnoli had a slight height advantage when he took on the littlest thorn in The Embassy's side, Grizzly Redwood. Chris Hero got one last opportunity to abuse the former Sweet n' Sour, Inc. whipping boy Bobby Dempsey when they wrestled each other for the first and only time. Two feuds continued in the night's Four Corner Survival match, with Delirious getting the win over The Embassy's Joey Ryan, Necro Butcher, and his new rival Sonjay Dutt. Brent Albright took on D-Lo Brown, Eddie Kingston faced Kenny King, Rasche Brown traveled a ridiculously long time to squad Sal Rinauro in under a minute, and ROH World Champion Austin Aries introduced Tyler Black's face to one of mankind's oldest frenemies, fire. In addition to being the start of "The Final Countdown Tour", the show was also the start of a ten day road trip taken by Colt Cabana, Bryan Danielson and Sal Rinauro that was documented and became the first (and best) "Wrestling Road Diaries". The three-hour documentary would inspire other independent wrestlers to document their life on the road, leading to the creation of "Kevin Steen's Weekend Escapades" and later "Being the Elite". - 2010: ROH held "Fade to Black" in Plymouth, MA. The show was named in reference to ROH World Champion Tyler Black, who was kicking off his final weekend in Ring of Honor. In his penultimate match, Black took on Christopher Daniels in a rematch of their 20-minute draw from HDNet [Ep. #69 - taped 7/16/10]. On the night before their Double Chain match, Colt Cabana and El Generico challenged the Kings of Wrestling for the ROH World Tag Team Championship, while Kevin Steen and Steve Corino warmed up by taking on The Embassy in a First Blood Tag Team match. After going months without putting it on the line, Eddie Edwards defended the ROH World Television Championship for the third time in as many weeks, this time against Erick Stevens of The Embassy. And in a glimpse of things to come, a number of soon to be ROH regulars made appearances, with Austin Aries facing Kyle O'Reilly, Roderick Strong taking on Mike Bennett, The All-Night Express wrestling Matt Taven and Sid Reeves, and Grizzly Redwood squaring off with Brutal Bob Evans (while dealing with an overzealous fan). - 2021: ROH aired their latest episode of television from Baltimore, MD. In the main event, ROH World Television Champion Dragon Lee once again became a double champion when he and his La Facción Ingobernable partner Kenny King defeated VLNCE UNLTD's Homicide and Chris Dickinson to reclaim the ROH World Tag Team Championship. ROH World Champion Bandido teamed with Rey Horus to face The Briscoes, and Josh Woods wrestled Will Ferrara in a Pure Rules match.

Today in Ring of Honor History: September 11 - 2004: Ring of Honor held "Glory by Honor 3" in Elizabeth, NJ. The show is most remembered for the debut of WWE Superstar ® and hardcore wrestling icon Mick Foley, who found himself the center of attention as various factions wanted to fight him. The main event saw the return of the Ultimate Endurance match, with The Rottweilers defending the ROH Tag Team Championship against the Carnage Crew, Roderick Strong and Jack Evans of Generation Next, and Dan Maff and BJ Whitmer. The match was Maff and Whitmer's second of the evening, as first they had to deal with Allison Danger's hired guns Chicano and Slash Venom. Fortunately they found themselves an ally in Mick Foley, who dug what they were doing in "Ring of Hardcore". ROH World Champion Samoa Joe and new ROH Pure Champion John Walters found themselves in the booker seat, with each picking the other one's opponent for the evening. Both ended up going the British route, with Joe selecting Nigel McGuinness to challenge Walters for the Pure title, while Walters chose former Pure Champion Doug Williams to challenge Joe for the World title. The World title match brought an end to William's recent stint in ROH, as he would appear in Ring of Honor again until May ["The Final Showdown" - 5/13/05]. Despite the loss of Colt Cabana, the feud between the Second City Saints and Generation Next continued, with CM Punk and Austin Aries meeting in their first singles match against each other in ROH. Meanwhile, Generation Next leader Alex Shelley tried to hold his own when he faced Bryan Danielson for the very first time. Matt Stryker and Jay Lethal found themselves facing a lot of free time on their hands when they met in a singles match with the stipulation being Stryker would no longer be flown to East Coast shows (where ROH ran most often) if he lost, while if Lethal lost, he would be dropped from the roster all together. Stryker, whose popularity with the East Coast fans had rapidly gone down over the course of the year, ended up taking the loss, and his angry farewell speech to the fans didn't help matters due to him botching his lines ("I'm going to go back to the East, West, Mid-west…"). Special K's losing streak and slow dissension continued when Dixie faced off against Jimmy Rave. And Trent Acid once again proved himself the "King of the Multi-Man Match" when he won a Six Man Mayhem over Ace Steel, Angel Dust, Fast Eddie Vegas, Izzy, and Bruce Tharpe's favorite wrestler, Kahagas. - 2009: ROH wrapped up the latest round of HDNet tapings in Philadelphia, PA. "The Final Countdown Tour" continued with Bryan Danielson wrestling his former rival Roderick Strong for the final time in ROH. Nigel McGuinness, who was also departing from Ring of Honor, used his final night in Philadelphia to personally thank and put over the one person who is most responsible for his success…Nigel McGuinness. Two-time ROH World Champion Austin Aries renewed a rivalry from his first reign when he took on Colt Cabana in a non-title match. Future three-time ROH World Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks received their very first shot at the Tag titles, challenging The American Wolves. Following the interference in their match the night before, The Briscoes came looking for revenge against the Dark City Fight Club, but may have been a bit over eager, with the match ending in a double disqualification. Necro Butcher and Grizzly Redwood continued their feud with The Embassy by facing Joey Ryan and Prince Nana himself in ROH's first ever "Beard vs. Beard" match. Eddie Kingston and Claudio Castagnoli, frequent opponents in other indies, faced each other for the first time in ROH. Delirious took on Chris Hero, Brent Albright squared off with Kenny King, and D-Lo Brown's often forgotten Ring of Honor run came to an end in a squash match against Sal Rinauro. - 2010: ROH held "Glory by Honor IX" in New York, NY. After six years of fighting and fifteen failed opportunities, Roderick Strong's quest to became ROH World Champion finally came to fruition. The end result was not a surprise to most, as the show marked the final appearance of the defending champion, Tyler Black, who was departing for WWE (where he has been moderately successful). What was a surprise was the immediate aftermath, which saw the surprise return of Ring of Honor found father and former ROH World Champion Homicide. Adding to spectacle of the main event title match was the addition of the legendary Terry Funk, who in his role as guest ringside enforcer counted the final pinfall when the referee became incapacitated. After retaining against Erick Stevens the night before, Eddie Edwards once again found himself defending the ROH World Television Championship against a member of The Embassy, this time Shawn Daivari. ROH World Tag Team Champions the Kings of Wrestling were in a non-title match that night, but it didn't mean they had it easy, as they faced debuting former WWE stars Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin. Christopher Daniels and Austin Aries squared off against each other in what was only the second (and last) singles match they had together in Ring of Honor. In the most heated feud in ROH, Colt Cabana and El Generico took on their hated enemies Kevin Steen and Steve Corino in a Double Chain Tag Team match [the match ended up being longer than planned, as the wrestlers had to stall for time during one of ROH's infamous iPPV glitches]. In need of help in his own heated feud against The Embassy, Grizzly Redwood reached out to former ECW wrestler Balls Mahoney. Redwood and Mahoney would come up short in their fight against The Embassy, which ended up being the final match in the year and a half long feud. And in a preview of what fans would be seeing a lot of in 2011, The Briscoes and The All-Night Express split up for the night to compete in singles matches, with Jay Briscoe facing Kenny King while Mark Briscoe took on Rhett Titus. - 2015: ROH continued the "Reloaded Tour" in Dearborn, MI. The show saw the return of the Defy or Deny match, but as double champion Jay Lethal had not yet racked up enough defeated challengers for the ROH World Championship, for the first time ever the match was held for the ROH World Television Championship instead. Lethal outlasted Cedric Alexander, Dalton Castle and Mark Briscoe in the elimination match, with Castle being the final opponent standing and thus barred from challenging for the TV title for the remainder of Lethal's reign. The match was not the main event, however, as that spot went to frequent rivals reDRagon and The Young Bucks once again doing battle, this time in a "No Rules" match. The match was reDRagon's second of the evening, as The Kingdom were originally booked to face the Bucks, but were unable to make it to the venue. Earlier Bobby Fish took on Will Ferrara in a singles match, while Kyle O'Reilly wrestled against Silas Young for nearly twenty minutes. Tag team partners Matt Sydal and ACH kicked off their Best of Five Series, with Sydal walking away with the all-important first victory. Adam Cole and Roderick Strong faced each other in a rematch from their no contest at "Road to Best in the World 2015: Amarillo, TX", which ended up being the last singles match between the two in Ring of Honor. Jay Briscoe took on Takaaki Watanabe, Moose squared off with fellow big man Samson Walker, and future Impact wrestlers Jake Something and Hakim Zane (a.k.a. Rohit Raju) face in a local showcase match. - 2020: After six months on hiatus while filling their television time by focusing episodes on individual wrestlers or teams, Ring of Honor returned to presenting new matches after developing a strict protocol to safely conduct matches during the COVID-19 pandemic. ROH personnel would undergo a series of COVID test before and after traveling to Baltimore for television tapings, as well as spending time in isolation, and undergoing a final test before returning home, in addition to required use of PPE when around others at the venue. Those who passed the series of test would then partake in tapings held over a number of days at the empty UMBC Event Center (later renamed the Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena). For ROH's first taping, they picked up right where they left off before the shutdown ["Pure Excellence: Night One" - 4/10/20], holding the ROH Pure Championship Tournament. On Ring of Honor's first episode back in this new format, Jay Lethal, the only former ROH Pure Champion in the tournament, took on Dalton Castle in the first opening round match, while Jonathan Gresham took his first step towards become the eventual winner by defeating the debuting Wheeler Yuta. www.rohwrestling.com/news/details-testing-protocols-tv-tapings-revealed

Today in Ring of Honor History: September 12 - 2015: Ring of Honor continued the "Reloaded Tour" in Chicago Ridge, IL. Still on the outs with The Kingdom, Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly teamed together for the final time as Future Shock, taking on The Young Bucks. ROH World Champion/ROH World Television Champion Jay Lethal squared off with Moose in a Proving Ground match, which was made easier for him as it took place not long after Cedric Alexander punched Moose in the head with wrench. For his part on the show, Alexander took on Jay Briscoe, but came out on the losing in thanks to Stokely Hathaway. Mark Briscoe was originally scheduled to face Adam Page, but with Page not medically cleared following an injury the night before, fans had to settle for the Briscoes whipping The Romantic Touch's ass instead. Matt Sydal and ACH met in the second match of their Best of Five Series, with ACH tying things up at one win each. Future Undisputed Era stablemates Roderick Strong and Bobby Fish took each other on in a singles match. Dalton Castle's feud with Silas Young saw him competing against Beer City Bruiser. Michael Elgin faced Takaaki Watanabe, The Kingdom squashed Curt Stallion and Brad Kevins, and Silas Young won a Four Corner Survival match over Cheeseburger, Samson Walker and Will Ferrara. - 2021: Ring of Honor held "Death Before Dishonor XVIII" in Philadelphia, PA. Originally the show was to be held in Lakeland, FL, but was relocated due to a surge in COVID cases. In his second title defense, ROH World Champion Bandido faced what would be the toughest odds of his reign as he defended the belt in a Four-Way Elimination match against Brody King, EC3, and his former friend and tag team partner Demonic Flamita. Jonathan Gresham's nearly one-year reign as ROH Pure Champion came to an end when he was dethroned by Josh Woods. Dragon Lee, the reigning ROH World Television Champion and one-half of the ROH World Tag Team Champions, looked to add more Ring of Honor gold to his collection when La Facción Ingobernable challenged Shane Taylor Promotions for the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship. LFI hoped to have an advantage by having Kenny King take out his former friend Shane Taylor with a steel chair before the match, but it backfired when O'Shay Edwards stepped up and took his place, allowing Taylor to come back out later and cost La Facción the match. In the final title match of the night, after overcoming two former Women of Honor World Champions [ Sumie Sakai on ROH TV: Ep. #515 - 7/30/21; Angelina Love on Ep. #520 - 9/3/21] and the host of Ring of Honor [Quinn McKay on Ep. #518 - 8/20/21], 19-year-old Rok-C defeated Miranda Alize to become the first holder of the new ROH Women's World Championship. Former rivals The Briscoes and The OGK faced each other for the first time in over six years ["Road to Best in the World 2015: Nashville, TN" - 6/6/15], with The OGK overcoming some dirty tricks to emerge the winners. Wanting to prove there was honor in violence, VLNCE UNLTD issued an open challenge to any three Pure wrestlers, past, present or future, to face them in a Six-Man Tag Team match. VLNCE UNLTD ultimately got one of each, as returning former ROH Pure Champion John Walters, LSG, and the debuting (and departing as he'd signed with AEW just days before the show) Lee Moriarty stepped up to answer the challenge. Eli Isom's weird triangle with Dalton Castle and Dak Draper found him having to contend with both in what was a singles match with Castle. And after falling victim the budget cutter and being future endeavored from NXT, Alex Zayne, Jake Atlas and Taylor Rust made their returns to ROH, with Atlas and Rust facing each other in a singles match, while Zayne was the final mystery participant in the Honor Rumble. Meanwhile, across the pond Wrestle Carnival held "Carnival of Honor" in Nottingham, England. Due to travel restrictions caused by the ongoing COVID pandemic, Ring of Honor's UK based wrestlers had been unable to compete for ROH audiences in over a year in a half. In order to help ease that, "Carnival of Honor" featured a number of matches with ROH's wrestlers that were taped for a future episode of Week by Week. On the show, Session Moth Martina competed in a Three-Way match against Alexxis Falcon and Heidi Katrina, while Joe Hendry took on Leyton Buzzard. In the main event, former ROH Pure Champion Doug Williams squared off with Dean Allmark in a Pure Rules match.

Today in Ring of Honor History: September 13 - 2006: After the success of his breakout hit, "The Ballad of Lacey", Jimmy Jacobs tried to see if lighting with strike twice (and love would strike one) with the release of his new song, "Victory of Love". Unfortunately for Jacobs, it would not be enough to woo Lacey, as she remained in the arms of Colt Cabana. - 2008: Ring of Honor kicked off their second tour of Japan with "Battle of the Best" in Tokyo. The show saw ROH teaming up with Dragon Gate, and it would ultimately bring about the end of their partnership. The show with Dragon Gate drew significantly less than ROH's event with Pro Wrestling NOAH in the same venue the following night, with the belief being that Dragon Gate didn't work to advertise the joint show as it drew much less than their regular shows. This led to a dispute over financial compensation between the two promotions that caused Dragon Gate to end their three-year long partnership with ROH. The dispute with Dragon Gate also caused internal tension in the Ring of Honor office, as the disagreement with Dragon Gate led a shouting match between owner Cary Silkin and booker Gabe Sapolsky, and was viewed as a contributing factor in Silkin's decision to fire Sapolsky a short while later. Seven months after ending their partnership with ROH, Dragon Gate hired Sapolsky as the vice president of their new promotion, Dragon Gate USA, created to be a showcase for Dragon Gate wrestlers in the United States and to compete directly with Ring of Honor. www.wrestleview.com/uncategorized/10133-as-i-see-it-4-20-dgusa-and-the-voice/After taking their rivalry across the Atlantic Ocean one year prior ["Unified" - 8/12/06], Ring of Honor's biggest rivalry now made its way across the Pacific Ocean as Bryan Danielson took on ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness. The match was non-title due to Danielson wanting their eventual showdown for the championship to be on pay-per-view (as well as McGuinness demanding Danielson first beat ever challenger Nigel already defeated). Despite being ROH's top rivalry and, according to Danielson and McGuinness, specifically requested by the Japanese fans, the match was not the main event of the show. That spot when to The Briscoes challenging their hated rivals The Age of the Fall for the ROH World Tag Team Championship in a "Relaxed Rules" match. Three months after being stabbed in the back ["Respect Is Earned II" - 6/7/08], Roderick Strong was finally able to get his hands on former No Remorse Corps teammate Davey Richards, defeating him in a singles match. The loss ended a disappointing night for Sweet n' Sour, Inc., as Eddie Edwards fell to Dragon Gate wrestler YAMATO in the opening match. Austin Aries took on Ryo Saito, and El Generico teamed with Open the Dream Gate Champion Shingo and Dragon Kid to defeat WORLD-1 members Naruki Doi, Masato Yoshino and BxB Hulk in a Six-Man Tag Team match.

Today in Ring of Honor History: September 14 - 2007: Ring of Honor held "Motor City Madness 2007" in Detroit, MI. The Resilience found themselves putting aside their feuds for a night as they had two big opportunities on their hands, with Austin Aries and Matt Cross challenging The Briscoes for the ROH World Tag Team Championship, while Erick Stevens challenged Takeshi Morishima for the ROH World Championship after first winning a Four Corner Survival match over Delirious, Kevin Steen and No Remorse Corps leader Roderick Strong. Vulture Squad leader Jack Evans, on the other hand, did not set his feuds aside, having his singles match against No Remorse Corps' Rocky Romero changed to a Street Fight as it was in progress. Bryan Danielson, who was dealing with injuries from his previous match against Takeshi Morishima ["Manhattan Mayhem II" - 8/25/07], need to test out wrestling in an eye patch before facing Morishima in a rematch the next night, and did so by facing debuting YRR members Chasyn Rance and Kenny King in back-to-back singles match. Likewise, Jimmy Jacobs was still testing out his knee after returning from injury, and did so by taking on Chris Hero in their only singles match together in ROH (which is surprisingly the second of only three matches they'd have together total in the promotion). Nigel McGuinness and Claudio Castagnoli teamed up to face the new duo of Brent Albright and BJ Whitmer, El Generico squared off with Pro Wrestling NOAH's Naomichi Marufuji, and Davey Richards took on Silas Young. - 2008: ROH closed out their second tour of Japan with "The Tokyo Summit" in Tokyo. Whereas the night before they teamed with Dragon Gate, this night they teamed with Pro Wrestling NOAH, as well as DDT, Kensuke Offices and New Japan. For the third show in a row, ROH World Tag Team Champion Jimmy Jacobs was in the main event, this time challenging Nigel McGuinness for the ROH World Championship. Meanwhile, his tag team partner Tyler Black took on Austin Aries in a grudge match. Bryan Danielson defeated Yoshinobu Kanemaru to win the GHC Junior Heavyweight Championship, accomplishing his dream of winning a singles title in Japan. In an interpromotional tag team match, NOAH's KENTA teamed with DDT wrestler Kota Ibushi to take on Naomichi Marufuji and Kensuke Office's Katsuhiko Nakajima, with the two teams wrestling each other to a time limit draw. Looking for revenge against The Briscoes after they turned down his offer to join Sweet n' Sour, Inc., Larry Sweeney reached out to former ROH World Champion Takeshi Morishia to be Davey Richards partner in a match against them. The plan worked with Richards getting the victory, and thus ended the show on a happy note for Sweeney after he accidently cost Eddie Edwards his match against Kazushi Miyamoto earlier in the evening. Roderick Strong faced GHC Heavyweight Champion Kensuke Sasaki in a non-title match, and El Generico squared off with Taiji Ishimori. And in a bonus pre-show match, Tetsuya Naito and Yujiro Takahashi made their Ring of Honor debuts when they represented New Japan in an interpromotional match against Pro Wrestling NOAH's Kotaro Suzuki and Genba Hirayanagi.

Today in Ring of Honor History: September 15 - 2006: Ring of Honor held "Glory by Honor V: Night 1" in East Windsor, CT. The show had the distinction of being the second ROH event forced to be held outside in a tent (the first being "Generation Next" [5/22/04]), due to exceeding the capacity for the fire code at the planned venue, Sports World. After weeks of The Briscoes telling KENTA he needs to "man up", man up he did when he and his Pro Wrestling NOAH tag team partner GHC Heavyweight Champion Naomichi Marufuji defeated the Briscoes in the main event. ROH World Tag Team Champion Roderick Strong squared off with Samoa Joe in the only singles match the two had against each other in Ring of Honor, while his partner Austin Aries took on newcomer Davey Richards. Nigel McGuinness and Christopher Daniels faced off in a rematch of their ROH Pure Championship bout at "Weekend of Champions: Night One" [4/28/06]. Jimmy Jacobs and Lacey's boyfriend Colt Cabana were still trying to iron out their new quasi-partnership when they took part in a Four Corner Survival match with Jack Evans and Ricky Reyes. Delirious and Shane Hagadorn wrestled the only singles match the two ever had against each other. And after a four month absence, The Ring Crew Express, who debuted all the way back at Ring of Honor's third event "A Night of Appreciation" [4/27/02], returned for what would be their final match, losing to the Kings of Wrestling. - 2007: ROH held the "Man Up" pay-per-view taping, their 161st event, in Chicago Ridge, IL. As with the "Driven" taping [6/23/07], the first half of the show was filmed for pay-per-view while the second half was recorded for DVD. In the main event of the pay-per-view, after five months of fighting (seven if you go all the way back to their first encounter at "Fifth Year Festival: Philly" [2/17/07]), the feud between ROH World Tag Team Champions The Briscoes and Kevin Steen and El Generico came to an end when they met in Ring of Honor's first Ladder War. The brutal encounter was so physically demanding that booker Gabe Sapolsky vowed he'd never book another one as he didn't want wrestlers risking injury trying to top it, and indeed it would two years later under booker Adam Pearce that the match was finally brought back ["Glory by Honor VIII: The Final Countdown" - 9/26/09]. More shocking (and arguably slight more memorable) than the match itself was the immediate aftermath, when after months of teasing and build, the cryptic "Project 161" was revealed to be formation of The Age of the Fall: Jimmy Jacobs, the debuting Tyler Black, the returning Necro Butcher, and Lacey. After making their entrance by coming out through the crowd, The Age of the Fall attacked the Briscoes, before hanging a badly busted open Jay from the rigging use to hold the belts during the Ladder War, with Jacobs then standing under him and being showered in blood while delivering a promo. Elsewhere on the pay-per-view, just three weeks after getting his face smashed in during their first brutal encounter ["Manhattan Mayhem II" - 8/25/07], a one-eyed Bryan Danielson was back in the ring taking on Takeshi Morishima in a rematch for the ROH World Championship. The feud between The Resilience and the No Remorse Corps saw them competing again each other in a Best of Three Series. While Resilience leader Austin Aries would come out on top in his match against Davey Richards, his rookie partners cost them the series Matt Cross came up short against Rocky Romero, while Erick Stevens fell to NRC leader Roderick Strong. And in the opening match of the pay-per-view, Nigel McGuiness won a Four Corner Survival match over his rival Chris Hero, Race to the Top winner Claudio Castagnoli, and Pro Wrestling NOAH's Naomichi Marufuji. The win would push McGuinness into title contention, leading to him being selected to challenge Morishima for the ROH World Champion at Ring of Honor's next pay-per-view, "Undeniable" [10/6/07]. In the main event of the DVD portion of the show, former ROH World Tag Team Champion Matt Sydal ended his first tenure in Ring of Honor, taking on his longtime rival Delirious in his farewell match before departing for WWE. Tyler Black's debut match against Jack Evans ended up turning into a Six-Man Tag Team match with The Age of the Fall facing Jack Evans and Irish Airborne, which was the start the often overlooked feud between The Age of the Fall and The Vulture Squad. Amazing Kong made her ROH debut, teaming with Daizee Haze to defeat SHIMMER Champion Sara Del Rey and Lacey. Brent Albright and BJ Whitmer picked up their second win of the weekend when they took on The YRR. And Alex Payne challenged Mitch Franklin for the Top of the Class Trophy. - 2012: ROH was back in Chicago Ridge, IL for another pay-per-view, "Death Before Dishonor X: State of Emergency". Much to the chagrin of Jim Cornette, who did everything he could to prevent it, S.C.U.M walked away with even more Ring of Honor gold after Kevin Steen retained the ROH World Championship in a No Disqualification match against The House of Truth's Rhino, while Jimmy Jacobs and Steve Corino first defeated C&C Wrestle Factory and later the duo of Charlie Haas and Rhett Titus to win the vacant ROH World Tag Team Championship. The final win was ultimately an easy one for Jacobs and Corino, as after first besting The Briscoes to make it to the finals, Titus ended up being screwed over when he was attacked by Haas' regular tag team partner Shelton Benjamin behind the referee's back. After his first defense ended in a no contest [ROH TV: Ep. #51 - taped 8/3/12], Adam Cole, after two and half months, had his first win as ROH World Television Champion when he retained against Mike Mondo. Despite their still obvious animosity towards each other, Roderick Strong and Michael Elgin were able to score a victory for The House of Truth over Irish Airborne, who were returning after three and a half years for what would be their final ROH match as a tag team (Jake Crist would return in a one-off appearance as a singles wrestler five years later ["Gateway to Gold" - 6/4/17]). Homicide and Jay Lethal, who faced each other in multiple tag matches in 2005, wrestled what was only their third singles match against each other in ROH (coincidentally, the last time Homicide & Lethal were in the same match together in ROH it was as partners against The Embassy one year prior at "Death Before Dishonor IX" [9/17/11]). The recently returned Silas Young and newcomer Tadarius Thomas met in a qualifying match for Survival of the Fittest 2012. And rising star ACH made his Ring of Honor debut, facing Kyle O'Reilly

Today in Ring of Honor History: September 16 - 2006: Ring of Honor held "Glory by Honor V: Night 2", their debut show in the Manhattan Center, in New York, NY. Just three weeks removed from badly injuring his shoulder ["Gut Check" - 8/25/06], Bryan Danielson had one of the toughest matches of his career when he defended the ROH World Championship against KENTA. Pro Wrestling NOAH's top title, the GHC Heavyweight Championship, was defended in the United States for the first time ever, with Nigel McGuinness challenging Naomichi Marufuji. As part of the historic moment, NOAH sent along several wrestlers to observe Marufuji and KENTA's matches, including Takeshi Morishima, who got into a physical altercation with Samoa Joe immediately following a special presentation for the legendary Bruno Sammartino. Though it would be several months before Joe and Morishima could settle their issues ["Fifth Year Festival: NYC" - 2/16/07], Joe was able to vent some of his frustrations later that night when he teamed with Homicide in a grudge match against The Briscoes. Due to Homicide previously vowing to leave Ring of Honor if he did not win the ROH World Championship by the end of the year ["In Your Face" - 6/17/06], the match was a must win situation for him, as Commissioner Jim Cornette stated he would get his promised title shot at "Final Battle 2006" [12/23/06] if he won, but if he lost, it would not come until sometime in 2007. After being the revealed as the ones who stole the ROH World Tag Team Championship belts ["Unified" - 8/12/06], the Kings of Wrestling made good on their word and defeated Austin Aries and Roderick Strong to become the new champions. Already the Campeones de Parejas in CHIKARA, one month later the Kings would win the CZW World Tag Team Championship as well, becoming triple champions. Lacey's hopes of her client Jimmy Jacobs and her boyfriend Colt Cabana working together didn’t seem to be panning out, as Jacobs pinned Cabana after a low blow in a Three-Way match involving Christopher Daniels. With the help of his new manservant Shane Hagadorn, Adam Pearce was able to defeat Delirious in their first singles match together, laying the foundation for the first of two feuds with they would have with each other. And in a preview of things to come in 2007, future Vulture Squad leader Jack Evans and future No Remorse Corps member Davey Richards squared off in their first singles match together. - 2016: ROH kicked off the "Reloaded Tour 2016" in Pittsburgh, PA. In the main event, Jay Lethal teamed up with Colt Cabana and Dalton Castle to defeat the Bullet Club trio of ROH World Champion Adam Cole and The Young Bucks in a Six-Man Tag Team match. That match marked the start of Cabana and Castle's short-lived tag team. ROH World Tag Team Champions The Addiction had a frustrating night, as they went 1-2 for the evening. Frankie Kazarian started things off for them on a high note with a victory (albeit a cheated one) over Chris Sabin, only to have their ally Kamaitachi fall to Alex Shelley, and later Christopher Daniels coming up short against the Machine Guns' protégé Jay White. The Briscoes won a Four-Way Tag Team match over The All-Night Express, War Machine, and Silas Young and Beer City Bruiser. Someone managed to track down Delirious, with him stepping into the ring to take on Jonathan Gresham. ACH faced off with Will Ferrara, BJ Whitmer continued playing mind games with Steve Corino, and Dr. Britt Baker made her Ring of Honor debut, teaming with Kelly Klein and Veda Scott to defeat Mandy Leon, "Crazy" Mary Dobson and Faye Jackson in a Six-Woman Tag Team match.

Today in Ring of Honor History: September 17 - 2005: Ring of Honor held "Glory by Honor IV" in Lake Grove, NY. The show is best remembered for Bryan Danielson, who main evented ROH's debut show ["The Era of Honor Begins" - 2/23/02], returning to Ring of Honor ["Nowhere to Run" - 5/14/05] and defeating James Gibson to finally become ROH World Champion. Despite having been in Ring of Honor since the very beginning, the match was actually only the third time Danielson had challenged for the belt. Even though Danielson finally becoming ROH World Champion was an historic moment, it was not the main event of the show. That spot went to AJ Styles taking on his former protégé Jimmy Rave in a match where the only way to win was to be the first to hit the Styles Clash/Rave Clash. The match was the main event due to Styles being seconded by Mick Foley, who after debuting one year prior at "Glory by Honor 3" [9/11/04], was now making his farewell appearance. New ROH Pure Champion Nigel McGuinness made his first successful title defense, retaining against Generation Next member Roderick Strong. After being attacked in the parking lot after "Dragon Gate Invasion" [8/27/05], Colt Cabana's feud with Homicide began in earnest when they faced each other in their first singles match together in ROH. While one Rottweilers feud was starting, another was ending, with Low Ki and Jay Lethal facing off in not one, but two matches on the show. After Low Ki won their initial Fight Without Honor to kick off the show, Lethal came out after The Rottweiler's beatdown of Colt Cabana and challenged Low Ki to a rematch, with Lethal finally getting the victory. Austin Aries squared off with Azrieal, Lacey began her search for new talent for Lacey's Angels, and Adam Pearce made his Ring of Honor debut, taking part in a Four Corner Survival match with BJ Whitmer, Ricky Reyes and Samoa Joe. - 2011: ROH held "Death Before Dishonor IX" in New York, NY. The main event saw the return of Ladder War, with The All-Night Express taking on The Briscoes. The match was held to determine the number one contenders for the ROH World Tag Team Championship, as it came about due to the Briscoes cheating to win their recent encounter on Ring of Honor television [Ep. #04 - taped 8/13/11]. With no number one contender heading into the show, ROH World Tag Team Champions Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin split up for the night to compete in singles matches, with Haas defeating Michael Elgin of The House of Truth, while Benjamin came out on top against Mike Bennett. The rivalry between Eddie Edwards and Roderick Strong continued in the first ever Ringmaster's Challenge match, with Edwards once again besting Strong. El Generico and Jimmy Jacobs, who feuded against each other for the ROH World Tag Team Championship three years prior, faced off in their first singles match ever against each other. Unfortunately there would be no winner, as former ROH wrestler Kevin Steen disrupted the match and the show by jumping the guardrail. Having been granted their release from TNA, the former "Generation Me" returned to Ring of Honor The Young Bucks and picked up right where they left off at "Best in the World 2011" [6/26/11], facing the Bravado Brothers and Future Shock in a Three-Way Elimination Tag Team match. And in the opening match, former enemies ROH World Television Champion Jay Lethal and Homicide teamed up to take on Tommaso Ciampa and Rhino of The Embassy. - 2016: ROH continued the "Reloaded Tour 2016" in Lockport, NY. The show was headlined by the 2016 Honor Rumble, which saw Silas Young, who entered at #1, outlast twenty-four other wrestlers to win a shot at the ROH World Championship. Young gained a measure of revenge in the match, as he won by last eliminating Jay Lethal, who defeated him in the opening match of the show. Lethal ended up pulling triple duty that night, as in addition to the singles match with Young and entering at #2 in the Honor Rumble, immediately following the Rumble he got into an impromptu non-title match with ROH World Champion Adam Cole. Other highlights of the Rumble saw Nick Jackson throwing a pizza party for the fans when he entered, Matt Jackson bringing a ladder into the ring when he entered, Caprice Coleman doing an impression of Bushwhacker Luke after his record setting elimination, Steve Corino coming out as a surprise entrant after Adam Cole kicked him off commentary to go get him coffee, and the surprise debut of former NXT wrestler Bull James. During the Rumble, The Young Bucks eliminated themselves by intentionally diving over the top rope onto ROH World Tag Team Champions The Addiction and the Motor City Machine Guns. While the elimination foiled Adam Cole's plan of one of them winning and allowing him a "Fingerpoke of Doom"-style title retention, it did give them a small measure of revenge after they both came up short in their respective Three-Way matches. The Addiction, Machine Guns and Bucks split up to compete in two Three-Way matches earlier in the show, with Christopher Daniels picking up a win for The Addiction by defeating Chris Sabin and Matt Jackson in the first one, and Alex Shelley scoring a victory for the Motor City Machine Guns over Frankie Kazarian and Nick Jackson. After teaming together in a Six-Man Tag Team match the night before, the partnership between Colt Cabana and Dalton Castle continued with them taking on The Briscoes. The Cabinet picked up a victory in a Six-Man Tag Team match over ACH, Lio Rush and Jay White, and Jonathan Gresham took on Kamaitachi. - 2021: ROH aired their latest episode of television from Baltimore, MD. The episode was Pure Rules heavy, with Mike Bennett and Rhett Titus facing off in a traditional Pure Rules match, while Brian Johnson won a Pure Rules Gauntlet over Delirious (in what was his final match on ROH TV), Eric Martin, Joe Keys, LSG and World Famous CB.

Today in Ring of Honor History: September 18 - 2009: Ring of Honor held "Final Countdown Tour: Dayton" in Dayton, OH. As the title suggests, the show saw the continuation of Bryan Danielson's farewell tour, with him facing Dayton's own Chris Hero in a singles match. As this was the first DVD after ROH ceased doing post-production with FIP's Sal Hamaoui, the show found Hero (in kayfabe) pulling double duty, with him replacing the Florida-based Lenny Leonard as Dave Prazak's new commentary partner. ROH World Champion Austin Aries' ongoing feud with Petey Williams and his revived feud with Colt Cabana continued in a tag team match, with Aries teaming with Rhett Titus. The match ended up kicking off a mini-feud between Cabana and Titus, after Titus was badly busted open from a Cabana elbow. ROH World Tag Team Champion Davey Richards put his title shot for the ROH World Championship on the line against Claudio Castagnoli, while his tag team partner Eddie Edwards defeated Brent Albright, who was competing in his final singles match in Ring of Honor. After their first encounter was ruined by the Dark City Fight Club [ROH on HDNet: Ep. #32 - taped 9/10/09], The Briscoes and The Young Bucks met in a rematch, with the Briscoes picking up the first win in their years long rivalry. Meanwhile, following setbacks in their recent return to ROH, the Dark City Fight Club looked to one again establish themselves as a dominant tag team with a victory over The House of Truth. And Jimmy Rave prepared for his Dog Collar match against Necro Butcher the next night by facing Grizzly Redwood, while Necro prepared for the match by beating the crap out of Rave. - 2015: ROH held "All-Star Extravaganza VII" in San Antonio, TX. Jay Lethal found the downside of being a double champion as he had to face both members of reDRagon that night, defending the ROH World Television Championship against Bobby Fish in the opening match, and later the ROH World Championship against Kyle O'Reilly in the main event. Luckily for Lethal, it was revealed during the main event that Adam Cole's split from The Kingdom and his renewed friendship with O'Reilly was all a ruse, as he stabbed him in the back and cost him his opportunity to become ROH World Champion. Screwing O'Reilly out of the title capped off a good night for The Kingdom, as even though Cole came up short in a Four Corner Survival match with Michael Elgin, Roderick Strong and winner AJ Styles for a shot at the World title, Michael Bennett and Matt Taven were successful in defeating The Addiction and The Young Bucks to become the new ROH World Tag Team Champions. Probably more shocking that the Tag title switch and the ending of the main event was the answer to The Briscoes open contract, as after a public falling out with ROH three years prior [7/10/12], Kenny King made his surprise return, reforming The All-Night Express with Rhett Titus. In another shocking twist, it was revealed at the same time that contrary to popular belief, Titus, whose last appearance was in the ROH vs. S.C.U.M. Steel Cage Warfare [ROH TV: Ep. #97 - taped 6/23/13], was not The Romantic Touch (I believe this also marked the Touch's final appearance). Kyle O'Reilly wasn't the only member of the roster having a bad night in San Antonio, as Dalton Castle's feud with Silas Young saw him lose control of The Boys. Moose and Cedric Alexander's feud came to an end in a No Disqualification match. And tied at one win each, tag team partners Matt Sydal and ACH met in the third match of their Best of Five Series. - 2020: ROH aired their second episode of the COVID Era television from Baltimore, MD. The ROH Pure Championship Tournament continued, with two first round matches featuring returning wrestlers. Up first Rocky Romero took on former LifeBlood member David Finlay, who last appeared for Ring of Honor in the US at "Road to G1 Supercard: San Antonio" [1/26/19], while in the main event Delirious wrestled Matt Sydal, last seen at "War of the Worlds 2017: New York City" [5/12/17], in what is to date the final match between the two longtime rivals.
