Today in Ring of Honor History: March 12
- 2005: Ring of Honor held "Back to Basics" in Woodbridge, CT. After a three-part anniversary and a trios tournament, it was a shift to get ROH back to normal. The main event was a number one contender's match for the ROH Tag Team Championship, and saw the first meeting between Samoa Joe and CM Punk since the end of the their trilogy for the ROH World Championship. Joe teamed with his protégé, ROH Pure Champion Jay Lethal. Punk was scheduled to team with Steve Corino, but after their falling out at "Trios Tournament 2005" [3/5/05], Corino left Punk high and dry. In need of a new partner, Punk put out an open call to anyone in the back, which was answered by Spanky, who was looking to get some ROH gold. The end of the match [which I completely forgot about] was one of the most random moments in Ring of Honor history, as WWE wrestler Stevie Richards walked out, superkicked Punk, and left. The spot was to setup a storyline between the two, but it never materialized. As for the reigning ROH Tag Team Champions Dan Maff and BJ Whitmer, they made their final title defense, facing Colt Cabana and Nigel McGuinness, who beat them in a non-title match at the "Third Anniversary Celebration: Part 3" [2/26/05]. Not long after the show, Maff was blacklisted from wrestling after a falling out with Homicide, which ROH kayfabed as Maff retiring due injuries sustained in a car accident. Meanwhile, the unsuccessful title shot saw the end of Cabana and McGuinness' partnership, and was the catalyst for their feud, as McGuinness thought Cabana wasn't taking things seriously. James Gibson earned a shot at the ROH World Championship after defeating The Rottweiler's Rocky Romero in a match that planted the seed for Gibson' future feud with Homicide. And Ring of Honor's longest running stable, Special K, officially came to an end after Dixie and Azrieal beat Lacey's team of Izzy and Deranged to win the name, which they immediately retired. Lacey, meanwhile, had already chosen a new name for her group: Lacey's Angels.
- 2016: ROH kicked of the "Conquest Tour 2016" in Philadelphia, PA. Jay Lethal defended the ROH World Championship against Matt Sydal. In one of the most random foursomes of all time, Adam Cole and Roderick Strong teamed to Kyle O'Reilly and Bobby Fish of reDRagon. Seriously, who would ever put those four together. The Addiction, Motor City Machines and The Young Bucks faced in a wild Three-Way Tag Team match. ROH World Tag Team Champions War Machine teamed with Moose to face The Briscoes and Cheeseburger (who's about equal in size to Moose). In a dual-grudge match, Adam Page and Jonathan Gresham united to face BJ Whitmer and Cedric Alexander. And in a late addition to the card, KUSHIDA defended the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship against ACH. KUSHIDA was sent by New Japan as a replacement for Kenny Omega, who was scheduled to face Dalton Castle but had to be pulled off the show a week earlier.
- 2021: Ring of Honor aired the latest television episode from Baltimore, MD. Flamita got revenge on Flip Gordon for unmasking him over a year earlier at "Honor Reigns Supreme 2020" [1/12/20]; also getting revenge in the match was Mark Briscoe, who cost Gordon the match as payback for Gordon costing the Briscoes a shot at the ROH World Tag Team Championship on the February 19 episode. Tony Deppen beat Kenny King to become the number one contender for the ROH World Television Championship. And Dak Draper faced Fred Yehi in a Pure Rules match.

- Colt Cabana hosted "Good Times, Great Memories", and said he's on a quest for gold in ROH. Tonight he gets to face Delirious to rise up the rankings as a singles wrestler, then gets to team with Nigel McGuinness to challenge Dan Maff & BJ Whitmer for the ROH Tag Team Championship. And speaking of tag team gold, The Ring Crew Express. McGuinness interrupted them, saying it was a big night for him and Cabana, so why is Colt wasting time interviewing RCE and getting himself a singles match with Delirious, instead of focusing on them winning the titles. McGuinness told them to turn the camera off, and made Cabana go do some exercises for once.
- Lacey was yelling at her half of Special K, saying they've been letting her down recently. Tonight they have a chance to win the "Special K" name, and there is a lot of money protentional in that. Oh, and Daizee Haze pinning Lacey at the "Third Anniversary Celebration: Part 2" [2/25/05] was a fluke. Tonight Lacey is going to prove she's not the just best businesswoman in ROH, she's the best women's wrestler in ROH.
1. Colt Cabana beat Delirious. Delirious focused on Cabana's neck during the match. Cabana won after a Twirly Bird.
2. The Ring Crew Express (Dunn & Marcos) beat Alex Law & Ricky Landell. Marcos pinned Law after an Electric Chair Senton off the middle rope.
- Highlights of Austin Aries defending the ROH World Championship against Vordell Walker at FIP's "Dangerous Intentions" [2/12/05]. Jimmy Bower announced Aries is currently on tour defending the title in Europe.
3. Spanky beat Jack Evans. Post match Gary Michael Cappetta came out and informed Spanky that as a result of winning, he is now one of the top contenders for the ROH World Championship, and will be the one to challenge for the title at ROH's return to Boston [4/16/05] if James Gibson fails to win his match tonight. Spanky said he's friends with Gibson, but he wants the title, so while he's not rooting against him tonight, he's not really rooting for him. Roderick Strong came out and said Spanky has a big mouth, and the only way to get to ROH World Champion Austin Aries is to go through Generation Next first. Spanky got hot at the disrespectful little prick, but Evans jumped him from behind and Generation Next beat him down
4. Dixie & Azrieal beat Izzy & Deranged (w/Lacey, Cheech & Cloudy) to win the rights to the "Special K" name. Finish saw Azrieal block a top rope hurricanrana and hit a Cradle Bomb for the win. Post match fans began chanting "Take it off!" at Lacey…'s group of wrestlers.
- Roderick Strong came out with Jack Evans for his match against Homicide, and said tonight is not about Generation Next or The Rottweilers, it's about Strong proving he's as good as people say he is. To that effect, Strong will send Evans to the back if Homicide agrees to send Julius Smokes to the back as well, so they can wrestle a clean match. Homicide agreed, and Smokes and Evans went to the back.
5. Homicide beat Roderick Strong
- During intermission Gary Michael Cappetta interviewed Dixie & Azrieal, who said they're ashamed of how they acted when they were part of Special K, so the name doesn't represent who they are anymore, and it's done.
6. Allison Danger beat Cindy Rogers, Daizee Haze and Lacey in a Four Corner Survival match. Danger pinned Rogers after a headbreaker into the knee followed by an STO [which was frequently used by Christopher Daniels].
7. Dan Maff & BJ Whitmer (c) beat Colt Cabana & Nigel McGuinness to retain the ROH Tag Team Championship. Whitmer pinned Cabana after a forearm to the back of his injured neck, followed by an Exploder Suplex.
8. James Gibson beat Rocky Romero (w/The Rottweilers). Post match Homicide began yelling at Gibson, who grabbed a chair and dared Homicide to get in the ring [the logic being once Homicide wins the ROH World Championship at "Best of American Super Juniors Tournament" on April 4, Gibson will be his first challenger]. After Homicide left, Gary Michael Chappetta announced Gibson will challenge for the ROH World Championship in Boston. Gibson said it means a lot to him, because ROH and fans have given him a second chance. Generation Next ran out and attacked Gibson, until Spanky made the save. Spanky then said he wants to be the second person to congratulate "Jamie Noble" on his win, and some fan yelled out and corrected him that it's "James Gibson" now. Spanky told Gibson that as his friend he hopes he wins the ROH World Championship, but as an ROH wrestler, if Gibson does win, he wants to be the first challenger.
- Backstage Lacey yelled at the ex-Special K for losing, but it doesn't even matter because she's already come up with a new money making name: Lacey's Angels.
- CM Punk came out and said his supposed "good friend" Steve Corino bailed on him and has no showed their match against Samoa Joe & Jay Lethal to determine the number one contenders for the ROH Tag Team Championship. Colt Cabana has a bad neck after two matches, and Ace Steel is sitting at home in Chicago, but Punk won't forfeit the match, and asked anyone in the back to come be his partner. Spanky answered the call, saying he came back to ROH to win championship, and not only would winning get him a shot at the tag titles, but beating both the longest reigning ROH World Champion and the current ROH Pure Champion would shoot him up the singles rankings too.
9. Samoa Joe & Jay Letha beat CM Punk & Spanky to win a shot at the ROH Tag Team Championship. End of the match Joe hit a tope on Spanky, and the referee left the ring to check on them, while Punk went for a Pepsi Plunge on Lethal. All of a sudden Stevie Richards walked out and dared Punk to fight him, then gave him superkick and left. Lethal then pinned Punk after a Dragon Suplex.
- Backstage Colt Cabana was icing his hurt neck, but said he started something tonight and he's going to finish it, so welcome to "Good Times, Great Memories" with The Ring Crew Express. Nigel McGuinness interrupted again, and said it doesn't seem like Cabana is taking things seriously. McGuinness on the other hand does want to go somewhere is the business, so maybe they should just stick to being opponents instead of tag team partners.
- Jimmy Bower announced that during the week after the show, ROH Tag Team Champion Dan Maff was involved in a serious car accident, and sustained injuries that will force him to retire from pro wrestling [he wasn't and didn't]. As a result, the titles have been vacated and new champions will be crowned at "Best of American Super Juniors Tournament".

- Dalton Castle came out with The Boys and said the fans are all his boys tonight, because they came out to see him wrestle, but unfortunately Kenny Omega is ducking him. Considering how much time Castel spends working out at the gym, though, Castle can't really blame him, because Castle wouldn't want to wrestle himself either. But Castle doesn't want to leave the fans cheated, so good news, everyone is getting a puppy! The All-Night Express interrupted, and said the only place to find "puppies" in Philadelphia are on fat 30-year-old virgins in a Bullet Club shirts. ANX took issue with Castle apologizing to the fans, as these were the same fans who booed ANX when they beat the Briscoes and The Young Bucks at "Final Battle 2015" [12/18/15]. ANX said if you ain't runnin' with them, you better run from them. Castle told ANX he promised the fans puppies, not a couple of p*****s. ANX told Castle if he wants to fight, pick one of The Boys and face them. Castle said he can't separate The Boys, because they're on the buddy system and one of them will get lost. ANX said they'll take on all three instead.
1. The All-Night Express (Rhett Titus & Kenny King) beat Dalton Castle & The Boys (Boy #1 & Boy #2) in a Handicap match. ANX each pinned a Boy. Post match ANX continued to attack The Boys, until Castle took them both out.
2. Adam Page & Jonathan Gresham beat BJ Whitmer & Cedric Alexander (w/Veda Scott). Finish saw Page and Whitmer dueling with chairs, when Alexander rolled up Page. Page kicked out an hit a Rite of Passage on him for the win.

- Taeler Hendrix came out with Joey Daddiego for his match against Will Ferrara, and announced than on an upcoming episode of ROH TV, fans will see Truth Martini taken out by Donovan Dijak. Dijak had one job to do in The House of Truth, but he couldn't handle it, so he deprived ROH of a genius. Tonight, Daddiego is going to demonstrate on Ferrara what Jay Lethal is going to do to Dijak.
5. Will Ferrara beat Joey Daddiego (w/Taeler Hendrix) by disqualification. After Ferrara kicked out of a one-arm powerbomb, Hendrix gave Daddiego a chair and ordered him to use it, resulting in a DQ. Post match Donovan Dijak came out with Prince Nana, and began brawling with Daddiego, until security ran out to separate them. As The House of Truth ran to the back, Dijak began dropping members of security.
6. reDRagon (Kyle O'Reilly & Bobby Fish) vs. Adam Cole & Roderick Strong
Result
{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}Adam Cole & Roderick Strong beat reDRagon (Kyle O'Reilly & Bobby Fish). Finish saw O'Reilly get a rear naked choke on Cole, but Strong hit a jumping knee on him to break the hold and get the pin.
7. Three-Way Tag Team match: The Addiction (Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian) vs. Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) vs. The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson)

{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}The Addiction (Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian) beat the Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) and The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) (w/Broomega} in a Three-Way Tag Team match. Mid-match the Bucks helped Broomega hit a dive on Kazarian [don't know how that's not a DQ for interference], but Kazarian managed to find the strength to kick out at two. Later on Kazarian brought Broomega back into the ring, and proceeded to put the boots to him. Kazarian pinned Matt after a B.M.E. (Best Meltzer Ever).
8. Jay Lethal (w/Taeler Hendrix) (c) beat Matt Sydal to retain the ROH World Championship

- Recap of Jay Lethal becoming the number one contender for the ROH World Championship after winning a Four Corner Survival match on the previous episode [3/5/21]. Quinn McKay interviewed Lethal after the match, with Lethal saying The Foundation lost the ROH World Tag Team Championship to La Facción Ingobernable, but now they have a chance to get it all back if he beats Rush to become the new ROH World Champion. Lethal said the Four Corner Survival match was more important to him than the actual title match, because it setup the opportunity for The Foundation to purify Ring of Honor.
- Promo from Dak Draper, saying while Fred Yehi didn't let success go to his head, Draper did, and now he needs success. If Yehi thinks he can stand between Draper and success, shame on him. Promo from Fred Yehi, who said he needs to win tonight to stay in ROH, or else he doesn't eat. Tonight Draper goes toe-to-toe with a hungry savageweight.
1. Dak Draper beat Fred Yehi in a Pure Rules match. Neither wrestler used any rope breaks. Finish sequence began with Draper punching Yehi in the face to get a warning, and ending Magnum KO. Post match Draper presented Yehi with a participation ribbon and offered the Code of Honor handshake, but Yehi pushed his hand away.
- Quinn McKay interviewed Tony Deppen, who's one match away from becoming the number one contender for Dragon Lee's ROH World Television Championship. Deppen says he knows his opponent Kenny King is friends with Lee, so he'll have to be on his A game and watch he back, because he knows La Facción Ingobernable is always up to something.
- Promo from Kenny King, saying Tony Deppen is getting pushed because of the internet, but if he's stupid enough to get in the ring with La Facción Ingobernable, he's going to get left there. After ending, King yelled at Amy Rose, saying he doesn't know what's going on with her. Quinn McKay told him he didn't need to act like that, and Rose didn't need to take that.
2. Tony Deppen beat Kenny King (w/La Facción Ingobernable). King had Deppen beat after a Chin Checker followed by a Tiger Driver, but intentionally pulled his shoulders up at two to break the pin. King then picked up Deppen for a Royal Flush, but Deppen countered and pinned King with an inside cradle. Post match LFI attacked Deppen, until Brody King made the save. Rush ran out to brawl with Brody, and LFI beat him down before putting him through a table.
- Promo from Flip Gordon, who is pissed about having to wrestle Flamitta instead of getting his ROH World Championship match still owed to him for winning the Battle Royal at "Free Enterprise" [2/9/20]. Gordon said if ROH wants to play games, he'll play, but after he wins he better get his title shot. Promo from Flamita, saying he hasn't forgotten about Flip Gordon disrespecting him by ripping off his mask at "Honor Reigns Supreme 2020" [1/12/20]. Flamita said Gordon has something dark inside him, but Flamita has rough blood running through him too, and tonight he'll show why he will always be better than Gordon.
3. Flamita beat Flip Gordon. End of the match Mark Briscoe sneaked out and slid a chair into the ring when Gordon went for a Flip Five. As the referee got rid of it, Flamita fought out to the move, and Mark hit Gordon in the back of the head with another chair. Flamita then pinned him to win.
