Today in Ring of Honor History: March 30
- 2002: Ring of Honor held their second event, "Round Robin Challenge", in Philadelphia, PA. In a follow-up to the main event of "The Era of Honor Begins" [2/23/02], Low Ki, Christopher Daniels and Bryan Danielson faced off against each other in a Round Robin Tournament. The final match, Low Ki vs. Danielson, saw an appearance from Ken Shamrock, acting as the guest referee. Paul London, considered to be ROH's first breakout star, made his debut with a literal break. Fans saw the first bloody match in ROH when Spanky took on Jay Briscoe. James Maritato began his short Ring of Honor run and tried to get away from the "Little Guido" comedy character he portrayed in ECW. Also making their debuts were Christian York and Joey Matthews, taking on CW Anderson and Elax. The Natural Born Sinners wrestled The Boogie Nights in a rematch from the debut show, while The SAT, Divine Storm, and The Amazing Red and Brian XL met in a Three-Way Elimination Tag Team match to continue their angle. - 2006: ROH held "Dragon Gate Challenge" in Detroit, MI. Part of the "Milestone Series", the show was the start of Ring of Honor's first triple-shot weekend. After being tied together since 2002, ROH decided to finally end the feud between Samoa Joe and Christopher Daniels, having them face each other for all three nights in what was supposed to be the last time they would ever wrestle against each other in Ring of Honor (ROH went back on that for Joe's farewell in 2015, with them competing against each other in a tag match). This night, they wrestled their last singles match against each other in ROH, with Daniels finally getting the win. In the most memorable moment of the night, BJ Whitmer and Jimmy Jacobs wrestled their first match against each other in their legendary feud. During the match, Whitmer tried to give Jacobs a powerbomb off the top rope, but the turnbuckle rolled underneath them and they both fell off in one of the scariest botches ever. Whitmer suffered a broken ankle, while Jacobs came down neck first against the edge of the ring frame and miraculously escaped serious injury. ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson teamed with Delirious to take on The Embassy in the last match of their mini-feud, while Colt Cabana took on Homicide in a Falls Count Anywhere match to continue theirs. Chris Hero gave Claudio Castagnoli one more chance to join Team CZW. And the stars of Dragon Gate made their first trip over for WrestleMania weekend. The first night saw them compete in a Best of Three series against Ring of Honor, with Jimmy Yang facing Ryo Saito in a singles match, AJ Styles and Matt Sydal facing Dragon Kid and Genki Horiguchi of Do FIXER in a tag team match, and Generation Next facing Blood Generation in Six-Man Tag Team match. - 2007: ROH held "All-Star Extravaganza III" during WrestleMania weekend in Detroit, MI. The show saw the return of Dragon Gate for their second visit during the WM weekend. The main event saw four of Dragon Gate's best take on four of Ring of Honor's best, as CIMA, Dragon Kid, Ryo Saito and Susumu Yokosuka faced "Double A" Austin Aries, "Double C" Claudio Castagnoli, "Double R" Rocky Romero, and "Single D" Delirious. After one of the shortest reigns in Ring of Honor history, The Briscoes reclaimed the ROH World Tag Team Championship from Naruki Doi and Shingo, kicking off their greatest reign which saw the titles truly elevated to the same level as the ROH World Championship. Unfortunately, the title change was not the exciting moment everyone had been hoping for. During the match, Mark Briscoe went for a Shooting Star Press off the top rope to the floor and underrotated, landing on his head in one of the scariest botches in ROH history. As EMT's rushed out to tend to Mark on the floor, Jay soldier on by himself to continue the match and win the titles, and even did a post-match angle with the surprise return of Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin, then known as the Murder City Machine Guns (TNA made them take the PG route). Jack Evans and Roderick Strong met in their first ROH singles match as part of the great Generation Next breakup feud. After they insulted the legendary Bruno Sammartino, Nigel McGuinness confronted Sweet n' Sour, Inc., kicking off what would be nearly a yearlong feud with Chris Hero. Former enemies Homicide and Colt Cabana united when ex-ROH Commissioner Jim Cornette returned to get revenge on Homicide. One night before their feud-ending Steel Cage match, BJ Whitmer teamed with Daizee Haze to face Jimmy Jacobs and Lacey in an "Anything Goes" match. Davey Richards took on Masaaki Mochizuki, Pelle Primeau faced YAMATO, and Erick Stevens made his ROH debut, squashing Alex Payne in a "Do or Die" match. - 2012: ROH held "Showdown in the Sun: Day #1" over WrestleMania weekend in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The show was headlined by the famous Clone Wars match: Davey Richards vs. Eddie Edwards vs. Roderick Strong for the ROH World Championship. Picking up right where their feud ended in 2010, Kevin Steen and El Generico met in a Last Man Standing match. The semi-retired Lance Storm tried to teach some respect to Mike Bennett, while reigning NWA World Heavyweight Champion and former ROH wrestler (and booker) Adam Pearce tried to do the heel version to Adam Cole. Jay Lethal defended the ROH World Television Championship against Kyle O'Reilly. As a result of winning the "Rise & Prove" mini-tournament [2/17/12], TMDK received a Proving Ground match against ROH World Tag Team Champions The Briscoes. The All-Night Express and The Young Bucks had the first of their two match, a Texas Tornado match. And Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team faced C&C Wrestle Factory in a rematch from the March 24 episode of ROH TV [taped 3/3/12]. - 2013: Ring of Honor held "War" in Asheville, NC. For only the second time in his then eleven year run, Mark Briscoe challenged for the ROH World Championship, facing Kevin Steen. reDRagon defended the ROH World Tag Team Championship against Alabama Attitude. ROH World Television Champion Matt Taven faced ACH, Jay Lethal and Roderick Strong in a Proving Ground Four Corner Survival match. The ROH/S.C.U.M. war continued with BJ Whitmer facing his former partner Rhett Titus in a grudge match, while Mike Mondo and Grizzly Redwood took on Jimmy Jacobs and Jimmy Rave. And Michael Elgin faced Adam Page. The biggest news coming out of the show were the actions of Charlie Haas. During the show, fans could hear Haas getting into fight backstage with Grizzly Redwood, with several wrestlers and booker Delirious having pull them apart. Haas was told to leave the building, but returned later and said he was wrestling his scheduled match whether they wanted him to or not. Haas put over a local wrestler in a quick squash (which was edited off the show), then later that night announced his sudden retirement on Twitter. - Charlie Haas story: www.cagesideseats.com/2013/4/3/4180232/charlie-haas-sudden-retirement-sped-up-by-roh-backstage-fightDue to the fact there are just way too many shows to cover, it's just quick results with a link to a more detailed recap from another site.

Today in Ring of Honor History: March 31 - 2006: Ring of Honor held the inaugural "Supercard of Honor" during WrestleMania in Chicago Ridge, IL. The second night of ROH's first triple-shot weekend, the show is best remembered for starting a new tradition over the WM weekend: the Dragon Gate Six-Man Tag Team match. Do FIXER took on Blood Generation in a midcard showcase match that stole the show, and was awarded the full five snowflakes from the Wrestling Observer. Bryan Danielson and Roderick Strong wrestled the final match of their trilogy (well it was supposed only be a trilogy anyway) for the ROH World Championship, going up to the edge of a one hour draw. Ace Steel won his seven month long feud with Chad Collyer, beating him in a First Blood match. After a job-saving music video and strong showing the night before, Jimmy Jacobs graduated to the big boys, facing Samoa Joe and Christopher Daniels in a Three-Way match. AJ Styles and Matt Sydal wrestled another match against Generation Next, this time taking on the tandem of Austin Aries and Jack Evans. Delirious started a brief angle with Ricky Reyes that would continue into the next night. Jimmy Yang teamed with Claudio Castagnoli to advance his mini-feud with The Embassy. And Ring of Honor's sister promotion SHIMMER Women Athletes was represented as Cheerleader Melissa, MsChif and Rain made their debuts in a Six Woman Mayhem match against ROH's resident female wrestlers Allison Danger, Daizee Haze and Lacey. - 2007: ROH held "Supercard of Honor II" over WrestleMania weekend in Detroit, MI. So nice they did it twice, after stealing the show the year before, the show was main event by a Dragon Gate Six-Man Tag Team match, with CIMA, Shingo and Susumu Yokosuka facing Dragon Kid, Ryo Saito and Masaaki Mochizuki. One year after the first match of their feud, the bloody war between BJ Whitmer and Jimmy Jacobs came to an end in a violent Steel Cage match. Jacobs won the match at a cost, suffering a torn ACL that would keep him out of action for several months. Whitmer, on the other hand, started a losing streak what would last for months, bringing him to his lowest point in ROH. Roderick Strong defended the FIP World Heavyweight Championship against his former friend turned bitter rival Austin Aries, their first singles match against each other in ROH. Meanwhile, Strong's faction the No Remorse Corps added a new member to their ranks, Rocky Romero. Colt Cabana came to the aid of his former enemy Homicide, teaming with him to face Adam Pearce and Brent Albright, who were backed by Jim Cornette. Nigel McGuinness and Chris Hero wrestled the first match of their feud. And Christopher Daniels and Matt Sydal were less than sympathetic to the plight of The Briscoes, demanding the new ROH World Tag Team Champions defend their titles even though Mark was in the hospital due to a botched Shooting Star Press from the night before. - 2012: ROH closed out their WrestleMania weekend with "Showdown in the Sun: Day #2" in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The show was headlined by the "Blind Destiny Challenge" matches [2/4/12]. Kevin Steen faced his formal foe Eddie Edwards, while Jay Lethal's saw his Blind Destiny cost him the ROH World Television Championship to Roderick Strong. In the main event, Davey Richards defend the ROH World Championship against Michael Elgin in a match that received a full five stars in the Wrestling Observer. The Briscoes got a win over Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team with a successful defense of the ROH World Tag Team Championship. Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly wrestled their first singles match against each other in Ring of Honor. The All-Night Express and The Young Bucks met in a Street Fight, TJ Perkins took on CHIKARA's Fire Ant, and Jimmy Jacobs returned to his evil ways in a match against El Generico. - 2019: ROH finished out the "Road to G1 Supercard" tour in Baltimore, MD. ROH World Champion Jay Lethal teamed with ROH World Television Champion Jeff Cobb to face The Kingdom and LifeBlood in a Three -Way Tag Team match. The Briscoes got their rematch against Villain Enterprises for the ROH World Tag Team Championship. Marty Scurll put his shot at the ROH World Championship on the line against Shane Taylor. Juice Robinson answered the open challenge of Bully Ray. Rush took on Tracy Williams, PJ Black faced Kenny King, and the Shinobi Shadow Squad wrestled Coast 2 Coast and former CHIKARA wrestler/WWECW jobber Colin Delaney.

Today in Ring of Honor History: April 1 - 2006: Ring of Honor closed out their WrestleMania weekend with "Better Than Our Best" in Chicago Ridge, IL. After seven months of pain and suffering, Colt Cabana beat Homicide in a violent Street Fight to win their feud and earn Homicide's respect. Lance Storm wrestled his first match in ROH, challenging Bryan Danielson for the ROH World Championship in a dream match. After impressive showings for the past two nights, CIMA and Naruki Doi of Blood Generation challenged Generation Next for the ROH Tag Team Championship. Samoa Joe and Christopher Daniels wrestled what was supposed to be the last match they'd ever have against each other in Ring of Honor, a Four Corner Survival match involving AJ Styles and Jimmy Yang. Due to his prolonged losing streak, Delirious saw his ROH future on the line in a match against Ricky Reyes. The Embassy teamed with Masato Yoshino to face Do FIXER, and Jack Evans scored a victory in a Six Man Mayhem match in his last match before an extended leave from Ring of Honor. - 2011: ROH held "Honor Takes Center Stage: Chapter One" over WrestleMania weekend in Atlanta, GA. Ring of Honor's Atlanta debut show saw new ROH World Champion Eddie Edwards make his first defense, taking on reigning ROH World Television Champion Christopher Daniels. Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team won the ROH World Tag Team Championship for the first time, ending the Kings of Wrestling's reign just two days shy of one full year as champions. Davey Richards met Roderick Strong in a rematch from "Final Battle 2010" [12/18/10], while El Generico met Michael Elgin in a rematch from the "9th Anniversary Show" [2/26/11]. Rookie tag team Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly got one of their biggest tests to date in a match against The Briscoes. Sara Del Rey teamed with Serena Deeb to face visiting Japanese wrestlers Ayumi Kurihara and Hiroyo Matsumoto. Christopher Daniels made his first defense of the ROH World Championship, taking on Dalton Castle. Likewise, new ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions Bully Ray and The Briscoes made their first defense, taking on Bullet Club's Adam Page and the Guerrillas of Destiny. Adam Cole challenged Marty Scurll for the ROH World Television Championship, not knowing he would shortly be replacing him Bullet Club. The seemingly gone Bobby Fish made his surprise return, kicking off his final few months in ROH. Cody's feud with Jay Lethal saw him bring back one of his father's most famous matches, the Texas Bullrope match. Jay White and Dragon Lee faced Will Ospreay and Volador, Jr. in a battle of the grounded mat technicians. Kelly Klein and Deonna Purrazzo wrestled their first singles match against each other, and La Amapola and Marcela represented CMLL in a showcase match.

Today in Ring of Honor History: April 2 - 2005: Ring of Honor partnered with New Japan Pro Wrestling to present the "Best of American Super Juniors Tournament" in Asbury Park, NJ. Despite having a strong partnership a decade later, ROH and New Japan's first attempt was a disaster. The tournament was supposed to be eight of the best juniors from the United States competing in an eight-man tournament, with the winner gaining entry into New Japan's 2005 Best of the Super Juniors tournament. Despite having several great American wrestlers ( Alex Shelley, Bryan Danielson, James Gibson, Matt Sydal, Roderick Strong, Spanky, and Black Tiger IV [ Rocky Romero]), the tournament was ultimately won by New Japan wrestler Dragon Soldier B [Kendo Kashin], who was not American. The whole thing went over like a lead balloon with the fans, and Dragon Solider B didn't even compete in the New Japan tournament anyway, making the tournament moot. Following the "car accident" (blackballing) of Dan Maff, BJ Whitmer chose Jimmy Jacobs to be his new partner in facing Samoa Joe and ROH Pure Champion Jay Lethal for the now vacant ROH Tag Team Championship. As a result of winning the Trios Tournament [3/5/05], Homicide challenge Austin Aries for the ROH World Championship. CM Punk teamed with Colt Cabana to face The Embassy in a No Disqualification match which not only saw the debut of Jade Chung, but also the infamous cheese grater attack. And Generation Next became the number one contenders for the ROH Tag Team Championship. - 2011: ROH closed out their WrestleMania weekend with "Honor Takes Center Stage: Chapter Two" in Atlanta, GA. The main event was a non-title dream match between The American Wolves and the new ROH World Tag Team Champions Wrestling Greatest Tag Team. It was also be the start of the push towards Davey Richards challenging his partner Eddie Edwards for the ROH World Championship. ROH World Television Champion Christopher Daniels resorted to cheap tactics to beat Michael Elgin, only to end up calling him a teammate later that night. Following a match between El Generico and Roderick Strong, Daniels turned heel and became the newest member of The House of Truth. The All-Night Express and The Briscoes continued to build their rapidly escalating feud in a bloody tag team match. The Embassy brought in Dave Taylor to face Colt Cabana, while Tommaso Ciampa took on Homicide. Former ROH World Tag Team Champions the Kings of Wrestling wrestled Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly. And after a seven-year run, Daizee Haze made her final Ring of Honor appearance, teaming with Tomoka Nakagawa to defend the SHIMMER Tag Team Championship against Ayumi Kurihara and Hiroyo Matsumoto. There was a lot of concern around Haze from fans, as she was alarmingly thin at the time. Haze only wrestled a handful more matches before retiring a few months later. - 2016: ROH closed out another WrestleMania weekend with "Supercard of Honor X: Night Two" in Dallas, TX. Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly added another chapter to their ongoing feud, facing in a No Holds Barred match. Jay Lethal defended the ROH World Championship against Cheeseburger, then pulled double duty facing Colt Cabana in an impromptu match, Cabana first ROH match in nearly five years. Silas Young and Beer City Bruiser challenged War Machine for the ROH World Tag Team Championship, while The Briscoes beat The Addiction, Motor City Machine Guns and The Young Bucks to become the next challengers. Bobby Fish and Roderick Strong faced off in a Two out of Three Falls match. And Dalton Castle taught BJ Whitmer that you never mess with another man's Boys. - 2021: Ring of Honor aired their latest episode of television from Baltimore, MD. Eli Isom took on LSG, while Brian Johnson and Danhausen, with one win a piece, met in a rubber match.

Today in Ring of Honor History: April 3 - 2009 Ring of Honor kicked off WrestleMania weekend with "Supercard of Honor IV" in Houston, TX. At 45-years-old, Jerry Lynn ended Nigel McGuinness' year and a half long reign to become the new ROH World Champion. McGuinness wrestled the match with a torn bicep, and would have to take several months off to heal. KENTA defended the GHC Junior Heavyweight Championship against his former American protégé Davey Richards. Tyler Black and Necro Butcher faced Austin Aries and Jimmy Jacobs in a grudge match. ROH made one of its first forays into lucha libre, bringing in NWA World Heavyweight Champion Blue Demon, Jr., Incognito [a.k.a. the second Sin Cara], and Magno. Bryan Danielson wrestled Alex Koslov, Roderick Strong faced Katsuhiko Nakajima, and Colt Cabana took on D-Lo Brown. - 2010: ROH held their second internet pay-per-view, "The Big Bang", in Charlotte, NC. The show saw Ring of Honor take another stab at lucha libre, with less than successful results. In two showcase matches, Blue Demon, Jr. was scheduled to team with Misterioso to face Super Parka and Solar, while Cassandro el Exotico was set to face Magno. Due to various issues, Magno was pulled from his match against Cassandro to replace an absent Solar, with the lucha tag ultimately being the final match on the show due to Super Parka arriving very late. Cassandro wrestled Rhett Titus instead, and unfortunately ended up breaking his leg in the match. Meanwhile, Blue Demon, Jr. and Magno against Misterioso and Super Parka ended up being one of the very worst matches in Ring of Honor history, with all four wrestler at one point simply stopping everything mid-match because they didn't know what to do next. While they couldn't do it for the live show, ROH wisely relegated the match to a bonus on the DVD release, making Tyler Black defending the ROH World Championship in a Three-Way Elimination match against Austin Aries and Roderick Strong the official main event. The match saw the debut of a "big shield" ROH World Championship belt, which was actually made by a then-member of F.A.N. (well, WrestleCrap at the time). The Kings of Wrestling dethroned The Briscoes to become the new ROH World Tag Team Champions, stating a reign that lasted nearly one full year. For the first time since their feud began, El Generico finally squared off against his former friend Kevin Steen, in a tag team match involving Colt Cabana and Steve Corino. After a three year absence, Christopher Daniels made his surprise return to confront Davey Richards and setup a future match between the two. Necro Butcher's neverending feud with The Embassy saw him take on Erick Stevens in a Butcher's Rules match. Fans saw a pre-TNA appearance of Gunner, then known as Phil Shatter, as he took on fellow local wrestler Zack Salvation. And former WWF commentator Kevin Kelly made his ROH debut.

Today in Ring of Honor History: April 4 - 2009: Ring of Honor closed out WrestleMania weekend in Houston, TX by taping "Take No Prisoners 2009", the last of their initial run of pay-per-views. In the main event, Tyler Black teamed with KENTA to face Austin Aries and Katsuhiko Nakajima. New ROH World Champion Jerry Lynn made his first defense, taking on Bryan Danielson, D-Lo Brown and Erick Stevens in a Four Corner Survival match. After seven months of fighting, Necro Butcher beat Jimmy Jacobs in a Fight Without Honor to win their feud (though they would have one last tag match against each other at a TV taping a week later). In very similar lineups to the night before, Blue Demon, Jr., Brent Albright and Claudio Castagnoli met in a Three-Way match, while ROH World Tag Team Champions Kevin Steen and El Generico teamed Jay Briscoe and Magno to face Sweet n' Sour, Inc. and Incoginito in an Eight-Man Tag Team match. Roderick Strong wrestled Alex Koslov, and in his final singles match in Ring of Honor, Ace Steel took on his student, friend and fellow Second City Saint Colt Cabana. - 2014: ROH held "Supercard of Honor VIII" during WrestleMania weekend in Westwego, LA. ROH World Champion Adam Cole and "Real ROH World Champion" Jay Briscoe settled the title dispute for good in Ladder War IV. Jay's brother Mark Briscoe took on Cole's new friend Michael Bennett in a No Disqualification match. Jay Lethal became the new focus of The House of Truth when he defeated Tommaso Ciampa to become ROH World Television Champion for the second time, starting a record setting year and a half long reign. Meanwhile, Truth Martini sent a powerful message to Matt Taven to never cross the boss. Two title matches for "War of the Worlds" [5/17/14] were setup when Michael Elgin beat Kevin Steen to earn a shot at the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, while reDRagon beat the Forever Hooligans and the new team of Hanson and Rowe to win a shot at the ROH World Tag Team Championship. Roderick Strong took on Cedric Alexander in a grudge match, while The Decade and Adam Page faced Adrenaline RUSH and Andrew Everett in what was Ring of Honor last Tag Team Scramble match. And RD Evans looked to continue #TheNewStreak in a match against Silas Young. - 2015: ROH held a television taping in San Antonio, TX. The Addiction, along with Chris Sabin, were revealed to be the ones behind the Knights of the Rising Dawn when they ended reDRagon's third and final reign to become the new ROH World Tag Team Championship. Tommaso Ciampa made his final ROH appearance, and as coincidence would have it, in his farewell match he challenged Jay Lethal for the ROH World Television Championship exactly one year after losing it to him. Also making his final appearance was Alberto El Patron, who teamed with Matt Sydal and ACH to face The Briscoes and Roderick Strong in a Six-Man Tag Team match. ACH pulled double duty, taking on Adam Page to continue his feud with The Decade. War Machine faced the Killer Elite Squad, while Dalton Castle wrestled 2015 Top Prospect winner Donovan Dijak in a match that saw the Tate Twins debut as The Boys. - 2020: Ring of Honor was scheduled to hold "Supercard of Honor XIV" in Lakeland, FL during WrestleMania weekend, but the show was cancelled due to the COVID pandemic.

Today in Ring of Honor History: April 5 - 2013: Ring of Honor held "Supercard of Honor VII" during WrestleMania weekend in New York, NY. After ten years and numerous failed attempts against the likes of Samoa Joe, Takeshi Morishima and Roderick Strong, Jay Briscoe defeated Kevin Steen to finally become ROH World Champion for the first time. Unfortunately, the infamously unreliable internet stream screwed up just before the finish, so fans watching online missed the ending and only saw the aftermath. The American Wolves challenged reDRagon for the ROH World Tag Team Championship. Matt Taven defended the ROH World Television Championship against Adam Cole and Matt Hardy. Team ROH took on S.C.U.M. in a Ten-Man War (featuring Jimmy Rave in his last match ever in ROH), Roderick Strong faced Karl Anderson, RD Evans made his transition from manager to fulltime wrestler, and Shelton Benjamin made his final Ring of Honor appearance. - 2014: ROH held a television taping to close out their WrestleMania weekend in Westwego, LA. With the title dispute with Jay Briscoe settled, ROH World Champion Adam Cole began the build to his next defense against Kevin Steen at "Global Wars" [5/10/14], teaming with Matt Hardy and Michael Bennett to face Steen and The Briscoes in a Six-Man Tag Team match. Cole also gifted Jay Briscoe's "Real ROH World Championship" belt to Hardy, who rechristened it the "Iconic Title". Jay Lethal made his first defense of the ROH World Television Championship, taking on Alex Koslov. Cedric Alexander continued his feud with The Decade, first by taking on BJ Whitmer, and later by costing Roderick Strong a match against Tommaso Ciampa. Meanwhile, Adrenaline RUSH came to a quiet end when Tadarius Thomas quit to become the second young boy for The Decade. Hanson and Raymond Rowe were officially branded War Machine, Michael Elgin wrestled Rocky Romero, reDRagon showed it's okay to run away, and RD Evans' #TheNewStreak hit 100 wins [yet for some reason, he still hasn't received a title shot].

Today in Ring of Honor History: April 6 - 2013: Ring of Honor finished their WrestleMania weekend with a television taping in New York, NY. With "Supercard of Honor VII" out of the way, ROH began building towards their next pay-per-view, "Border Wars 2013" [5/4/13]. New ROH World Champion Jay Briscoe found his first challenger, one who would later go on to be one of his most hated rivals, Adam Cole. The former World Champion Kevin Steen found himself alone when his allies S.C.U.M. chose Matt Hardy over him, and booted him from the group. SCUM's war with ROH continued with them taking on the likes of Jay Lethal, BJ Whitmer and C&C Wrestle Factory, as well as setting up future matches for the pay-per-view. The feud between The American Wolves and reDRagon continued, with Eddie Edwards facing Bobby Fish, while Davey Richards wrestled his former protégé Kyle O'Reilly. After winning a Proving Ground match at "War" [3/30/13], ACH challenged Matt Taven for the ROH World Television Championship, while Mark Briscoe won a Five-Way Scramble to become the next challenger. Michael Elgin took on New Japan star Karl Anderson, Veda Scott continued her angle with MsChif, and Roderick Strong had beef with Mike Mondo. - 2019: Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling partnered up to present "G1 Supercard" at Madison Square Garden in New York, NY over WrestleMania weekend. In the strictly ROH side of the show, Matt Taven beat Jay Lethal and Marty Scurll to win the ROH World Championship. Having previously held the ROH World Television Championship, Tag Team Championship, and Six-Man Tag Team Championship, Taven was recognized as ROH's second Grand Slam Champion (the first was Christopher Daniels). Kelly Klein presented a new attitude when she defeated Mayu Iwatani to reclaim the Women of Honor World Championship; following the match, The Allure made their debut, attacking Klein. Flip Gordon teamed with LifeBlood to face Bully Ray, Silas Young and Shane Taylor in a Six-Man Tag Team match (which ended up being Juice Robinson's last match in ROH). And Rush decimated Dalton Castle in seconds. On the purely New Japan side, Kazuchika Okada defeated Jay White to become IWGP Heavyweight Champion for the fifth time, Kota Ibushi defeated Tetsuya Naito to become IWGP Intercontinental Champion for the first time, and Zack Sabre Jr. retained the British Heavyweight Championship against Hiroshi Tanahashi. In cross-promotional matches, the IWGP Tag Team Championship Guerrilla of Destiny retained their titles while defeating Villain Enterprises in a Four-Way Tag Team match involving The Briscoes and Los Ingobernables de Japón to become the new ROH World Tag Team Champions. Immediately following the match was the infamous Enzo and Cass angle, which was both immediately hated and instantly dropped. Dragon Lee defeated Taiji Ishimori and Bandido in a Three-Way match to become the new IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, while Jeff Cobb defeated Will Ospreay to retain the ROH World Television Championship and win the NEVER Openweight Championship. STARDOM was represented when the late Hana Kimura teamed up with Sumie Sakai and Stella Grey to face Oedo Tai and Jenny Rose. And Kenny King earned a shot at the ROH World Championship (and upset the fans) by winning the 30-man Honor Rumble that featured the likes of former ROH World Tag Team Champion Shingo Tagaki, King Haku, Jushin Liger, and The Great Muta. - 2021: On Week by Week, O'Shay Edwards and Sledge met in a rematch of their 10-minute time limit draw from the February 9 episode.

I watched G1 Supercard for the first time about a month ago. I remembered all the negative feedback the show got, but I had fun. Of course, I have the benefit of hindsight, and Taven is one of my favorites, so...*shrug*

I watched G1 Supercard for the first time about a month ago. I remembered all the negative feedback the show got, but I had fun. Of course, I have the benefit of hindsight, and Taven is one of my favorites, so...*shrug* Hindsight does help, honestly. Obviously takes the sting off of what at the time felt like a downer, Scurll not getting it, but I was honestly not too sore about Taven winning it since Lethal really needed to lose the title, anyway. It was going to be new blood either way, so it wasn't bad. The Enzo thing is funny to see now due to what a miscalculation it was. You can follow the logic of why they'd do it, but if you take a step back, it's hard to picture any scenario where it wouldn't have been a really stupid idea to do during that match in particular.

Today in Ring of Honor History: April 7 - 2012: Ring of Honor held a television taping in Baltimore, MD, continuing the build towards their next pay-per-view, "Border Wars" [5/12/12]. The House of Truth bought Rhino's contract from The Embassy, and quickly put him to work. After squashing the debuting Vinny Marseglia, Rhino faced ROH World Champion Davey Richards in a Proving Ground match. Also receiving a Proving Ground match were C&C Wrestle Factory, who faced ROH World Tag Team Champions The Briscoes. Roderick Strong defended the ROH World Television Championship against Adam Cole. Kevin Steen faced Kyle O'Reilly, protégé and partner of Davey Richards, who he was challenging for the title at the pay-per-view. The All-Night Express continued their feud with The Young Bucks, competing in an Elimination Tag Team match. Eddie Edwards faced Mike Bennett. Tommaso Ciampa took on Matt Taven. Former ROH Tag Team Champion Ricky Reyes wrestled his final match in Ring of Honor, facing Jay Lethal. And CHIKARA was represented when The Colony met Ophidian and Los Ice Creams in a Six-Man Tag Team match. - 2018: ROH held "Supercard of Honor XII" during WrestleMania weekend in New Orleans, LA. The show was ROH's largest crowd up to the point, drawing over 6,000 fans. Ring of Honor crowned its first female champion when Sumie Sakai, who won the very first women's match in Ring of Honor ["Road to the Title" - 6/22/02], defeated Kelly Klein to win the Women of Honor World Championship Tournament. Sakai advance to the finals by defeating Tenille Dashwood, while Klein advanced by beating Mayu Iwatani in their first match together. Daffney (RIP), who was among the first women to appear regularly in Ring of Honor, was on hand to present Sakai with the new title belt. Marty Scurll received his first shot at the ROH World Championship, challenging Dalton Castle. Silas Young won the ROH World Television Championship for a second time, beating Kenny King in a Last Man Standing match. Jay Lethal teamed with Hiroshi Tanahashi to challenge The Briscoes for the ROH World Tag Team Championship, while Flip Gordon teamed with his former tormentors The Young Bucks to challenge SoCal Uncensored for the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship in a Ladder War. Bullet Club was not fine as "leader" Cody faced leader Kenny Omega in a long awaited showdown. Meanwhile, Cody's BFF Adam Page faced Omega's Golden Lover Kota Ibushi. Punishment Martinez faced Tomohiro Ishii, Jonathan Gresham took on Chuckie T, Luke Hawx teamed with his son PJ Hawx, and mere months after retiring with a hero's sendoff, Bully Ray was not only back in action, but turned heel, which he would remain for the rest of his tenure.

It's one of the many things that speaks to Bully Ray just not knowing at all what ROH fans or wrestling fans want. Like, the Angelina Love/Velvet Sky debut was super poorly received as well. And Kenny King spoiling Muta-Liger before they had any real time to interact at all. The never ending Lifeblood-Bully & Friends feud that stunk out the joint early and extinguished any spark of Lifeblood's momentum. As someone there live, the New Japan side was well received, but it can't be overstated just how catastrophic the influence of Bully Ray was for that company - and this was after a full year of the Bully Ray heel-turn at the previous Supercard of Honor started the issues. Having just revisited all of 2018 prior to last year's Final Battle I was gobsmacked at how each and every ROH broadcast became centered around Bully Ray. More than the Elite leaving, the Bully Ray focus is what chipped away at ROH. Death by a thousand repulsive papercuts.

More than the Elite leaving, the Bully Ray focus is what chipped away at ROH. Death by a thousand repulsive papercuts. Right. Like, from his perspective, I can see him thinking, "This is an infamous figure, I'll have him 'invade' for buzz, and the fans will think it's legit since I'm a tough guy, so they'd send me to handle it", but to anyone on the outside looking in, it'd just be clear that ROH fans were NOT receptive to Enzo at that time, or almost any time. Beyond that, just do the "invasion" during Bully's match if you want a confrontation, don't derail a title match with an angle that has nothing to do with the title or NJPW, especially when you probably couldn't pay NJPW to book Enzo even before he got tied to drug use, meaning there was zero chance post-Sydal NJPW would run that kind of risk bringing him in.

Today in Ring of Honor History: April 8 - 2017: Ring of Honor held a television taping in Baltimore, MD, building up to the "War of the Worlds 2017" pay-per-view [5/12/17]. Jay Lethal earned a title shot against ROH World Champion Christopher Daniels the babyface way by winning a Four Corner Survival match, while Cody earned one the heel way by being a dick. Frankie Kazarian looked to add more singles gold to The Addiction, when he challenged Marty Scurll for the ROH World Television Championship. Matt Sydal made his return after nearly a year to issue a challenge for the TV title, before taking on the debuting Flip Gordon. Lio Rush wrestled his last match for ROH, taking on Shane Taylor. Taylor pulled double duty that night, later teaming with The Rebellion to challenge Bully Ray and The Briscoes for the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship. Bobby Fish took on Silas Young in a grudge match. Josh Woods won the 2017 Top Prospect Tournament, beating John Skyler in the finals. Following the match, Woods was attacked by disgraced wrestler David Starr, setting up a future match. After a few rocky weeks, things seemed to be fine with Bullet Club as Adam Cole and The Young Bucks seemingly made up. And they've got spirit, yes they do; they've got spirit, how 'bout you? After three and a half years, Mike Mondo made a one-night return with his Spirit Squad tag team partner Kenn Doane to face the Bucks in an open challenge.

Jerry Lynn defended the ROH World Championship against three unlikely challengers: Austin Aries, Bryan Danielson and Tyler Black. Chris Hero and Eddie Kingston's long running feud came to Ring of Honor. Brent Albright's feud with Claudio Castagnoli crossed over with Colt Cabana's feud with The Embassy, starting Claudio's alliance with Prince Nana. The often forgotten Kenny rivalry continued as Kenny Omega and Kenny King wrestled a Three-Way match that included Jay Briscoe. Also facing off in a Three-Way match were Daizee Haze, Sara Del Rey and MsChif. Today in Ring of Honor History: April 12 - 2003: Ring of Honor held "The Epic Encounter" in Philadelphia, PA. The show was named after Bryan Danielson and Paul London's Two out of Three Falls match, their last ever singles match against each other. London was returning after missing the past couple of shows due to undergoing emergency surgery, and took issue with AJ Styles abandoning their plans by winning the ROH Tag Team Championship with The Amazing Red instead. Styles and Red that night made their second defense, once again taking on the Briscoe Brothers. Da Hit Squad came to an end when a frustrated Mafia turned his back on the Code of Honor following a loss to The Backseat Boyz, and joined The Prophecy. Christopher Daniels, meanwhile, briefly looked like he would shake someone's hand after a tough match with Homicide. Homicide pulled double duty that night, later teaming with Dusty Rhodes to face The Group in an unsanctioned "I Quit" Bunkhouse Brawl. Also pulling double duty was new ROH Champion Samoa Joe, who first took on Hotstuff Hernandez, then unofficially put his title on the line in a Four Corner Survival match against Colt Cabana, Matt Stryker, and debuting indy legend "Reckless Youth" Tom Carter. And BJ Whitmer got knocked the F out in a hard fought match against CM Punk, setting the stage for him joining The Prophecy later in the year and being the catalyst for the Prophecy/Second City Saints feud. - 2008: ROH held "Injustice" in Edison, NJ. The show was named after the ROH World Championship match, with Nigel McGuinness screwing over Kevin Steen by cheating to retain the title, starting a rivalry for the belt that would last for most of the year. The No Remorse Corps' reign as ROH World Tag Team Champions came to a sudden end when The Briscoes won them for a fifth time. Roderick Strong also had a bad night, facing Necro Butcher in a No Disqualification match. Chris Hero showed a more aggressive attitude in a tag match against Erick Stevens and Pelle Primeau, while fellow Sweet n' Sour member Brent Albright showed signs of not being a team player when he faced Delirious. Delirious, meanwhile, seemed to show signs of being smitten with Daizee Haze. Jack Evans faced El Generico, Tammy Sytch got a new job as a diva coach, and Kota Ibushi's US tour continued with him wrestling Claudio Castagnoli.

Erick Stevens became the third member of Austin Aries new faction The Resilience, joining with them to face the No Remorse Corps to face Six-Man Elimination tag. Claudio Castagnoli beat Jay Briscoe in a singles match to get a shot at the ROH World Tag Team Championship, while Kevin Steen, in his first night as a fulltime member of the roster, started the great Briscoes/Steenerico feud by punching the injured Mark Briscoe in the back of the head. The former "Sin Cara" Mistico (then known as Caristico) made his debut, teaming with El Soberano, Jr. to face The Briscoes (Soberano had a much better showing than his debut at "Manhattan Mayhem VII" [3/3/18]). LifeBlood took on The Kingdom, while continuing their feud with Bully Ray. Also continuing their feud were Jonathan Gresham and Silas Young. Josh Woods made his first appearance since November, winning a squash match. Kelly Klein faced Ray Lyn, Bandido took on Shane Taylor, PJ Black wrestled Eli Isom, and the Soldiers of Savagery made their debut. The show was headlined by the first match in the trilogy of singles matches between Takeshi Morishima and Nigel McGuinness for the ROH World Champion. Colt Cabana's farewell tour saw him put his European wrestling skills on display against Doug Williams, in what was Williams' last US match for Ring of Honor. Despite advice from doctors, ROH officials and his own parents, Mark Briscoe was back in action after his severe concussion, coming to the aid of his brother Jay Briscoe in a match against Kevin Steen and El Generico. Jack Evans and Delirious joined up to face their common enemy the No Remorse Corps in a grudge match. Pelle Primeau beat Shane Hagadorn to become the new holder of the Top of the Class Trophy. Matt Cross faced Shingo, Claudio Castagnoli took on Rocky Romero, and Sara Del Rey looked to prove her greatness by wrestling Ernie Osiris. And one night after teaming with the ROH World Champion in the main event, Chris Hero was teaming with Tank Toland in an easy opening card match against Jason Blade and Eddie Edwards. - 2018: ROH held a television taping in Pittsburgh, PA. The Briscoes defended the ROH World Tag Team Championship against The Young Bucks, adding another match to their classic rivalry. Set to both challenge for the ROH World Championship at "Best in the World 2018" [6/29/18], Cody and Marty Scrull tried to show Bullet Club was fine when they teamed with Adam Page to face the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions SoCal Uncensored in a non-title match. SCU spent most of the episode plotting to get their belts back after they were stolen by The Kingdom at "Supercard of Honor XII" [4/7/18]. The Kingdom were busy on their own, facing ROH World Champion Dalton Castle and The Boys in a Six-Man Tag. Silas Young made the first defense of his second reign as ROH World Television Champion, taking on Flip Gordon. Jay Lethal kicked off a quest to climb back to the top of the mountain by beating everyone who recently defeated him, staring with Punishment Martinez. After being gone for nearly a year, Joey Daddiego made one last appearance to be decimated by Shane Taylor. Chuck Taylor faced Josh Woods, the Motor City Machine Guns beat The Dogs, Sumie Sakai wrestled Stella Grey, and Bully Ray officially unretired after he was fired as Ring of Honor's Enforcer. - 2019: ROH held "Masters of the Craft 2019" in Columbus, OH. Villain Enterprises continued their rivalry with The Kingdom by defending the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship against them in a Street Fight. One year after their historic match in China, NWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis' humble attitude talked him into defending the title against Colt Cabana in rematch. Mark Haskins and Tracy Williams of LifeBlood took on Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham in an Iron Man Tag Team match, while their stablemate Bandido faced Caristico ( Mistico), Flip Gordon and PJ Black in a Four Corner Survival match. The grumpy old men contingent of The Briscoes, Silas Young and Shane Taylor teamed up to wrestle The Bouncers and Coast 2 Coast, who ended up becoming a little grumpy themselves. Rush faced El Soberano, Jr., Jenny Rose squared off with Holidead, and Rhett Titus nearly killed himself in a match against Jeff Cobb.
