1991 "Let's check Vince's thought process: "I've got a Dragon. Hmmm. I've got a Snake. Ummmm. I've got a Skinner. Yep. I've got a Birdman. Sure do. I've got a Bulldog. I've got a whole damn zoo, alright. But I don't have a king of the jungle! Yeah! I need a Lion!" Well, not long after that neuron finished firing, Vince came up with the ideal new gimmick. I guess that Battle Cat was so effective that Vince has decided to create a wrestler with a Lion's mask - not a Tiger Mask ;-) - and has gotten none other than Paul Orndorff to return to the WWF and work the character, called The Lion (oooohs and aaaaaahs from the crowd). I wonder whether this one will even make it to TV." 1994 "Rumoured to be coming to the WWF for TV after the PPV are Hercules Hernandez (as a gang member enemy of Razor Ramon; can you imagine two guys with the fake accents, Chico? Razor supposedly wants to take a little time off in the new year, leading to the guess that this enemy would put him out)" 1997 "The Undertaker story, to be revealed in time, is that his parents and he were all set to be buried that fateful night in the cemetary (about which Paul Bearer spoke), but Papa Shango used his voodoo to bring Undertaker back to life. Shango has signed a four-year contract to come in with that story line. First Sid, then Shango...just when you thought the situation on top couldn't be worse." 1998 "Later in the year, perhaps at Survivor Series, speculation is that the Head Bangers will team with Maralyn Manson to face Insane Clown Posse and a third partner." Was this from Dave Meltzer? Those sound like Herb Kunze Tid-Bits from RSPW to me, and Herb had a...liberal interpretation of the truth, especially when it came to stuff to make the WWF look bad. That said, I think the Undertaker/parents/Shango thing is legit and that it was in the Observer, and we know for a fact that they were thinking of bringing Shango back around that time. I don't think there's any truth at all to the Manson thing. I can't fathom Marilyn agreeing to be involved in wrestling in any capacity.

Re: Sheik Tugboat...the problem is the timeline doesn't make a great deal of sense. Iraq invaded Kuwait on August 2, and General Adnan was introduced on the 8/28 TV taping. The attack on Tugboat to knock him out of SummerSlam was taped on July 16, and it was evident by then that they had given up on him.

Yes I remember that being discussed on USENET. The Hercules story made it to New Wave Wrestling, which was the magazine that really tore apart kayfabe more than other mags at the time. They did give real names away and bits of behind the scenes news.

Too lazy to skim the entire thread, but Dustin Runnels as Goldust pitching to Vince that he would get real life breast implants to further the character has got to be the best thing that ever got turned down.

Shiek Tugboat. Either it’s a rib or they totally thought Shiek Tugboat and Hulk Hogan would sell 100,000 tickets. Has Fred Ottman ever spoken about this? I feel like it is a totally made up story by Bruce and it wasn't even until the podcasts that it even came to light, after 25-30 years. Tugboat was being phased out as Hogan's buddy early on and the same time Slaughter was coming back and I'm sure there were at least thoughts of him being a main eventer. Here’s what I think really happened, Tugboat was penciled in as Hogan’s Wrestlemania 7 opponent, which is the reason he was paired with Hogan. Tugboat was probably going to turn on Hogan sometime in the fall of 1990, and compete against Hogan as a monster heel. Unfortunately, big Fred wasn’t all that “over”, and the angle was scrapped before SummerSlam (with Bossman replacing Tugboat). Once the Gulf War began and they pivoted to Slaughter, the two angels got mashed together somehow, with Prichard remembering Sheik Tugboat for some reason.

I recall there was a proposed character based on Harry Potter somewhere between 2006 and 2007 but the talent they were going to use for it was let go, and out went the character. I also remember hearing this talent had some complaints from agents one of them saying he hated his hair.

He was working OVW in 2006 and even made a dark match appearance in WWE.

Tank Abbott WCW Champion: I recall reading that he was supposed to win a Rumble type match to win the belt, and that he would ultimately win the match by eliminating the last remaining opponent with a single punch. It's incredible that this of all ideas was the one that got Russo removed because I don't see what the big deal is. Sure Tank Abbot wasn't great but it's not like he would have been the worst champion lol

Also Bruce Pritchard said they were going to have him be a conman infomercial salesman manager during the Attitude Era that never happened and he also was almost brought in as Bobby Heenan Jr.
