Cena, Orton, Lesnar, Batista should most certainly count. Even if they did a little indie work, I think it's disingenuous to say that they were like road warriors before showing up at OVW. Lesnar and Orton yes. They were headed to WWE and basically told who to train with and wrestle for to get experience. Nowadays they would be trained in NXT. Cena got started on his own and got a contract later. I think his trainer had an in with WWE though. Batista I am not sure on. Edit. Batista went to the Power Plant but was turned down. Then he went to WWE who advised him on who to go to and get trained. Then he wrestled a few indies before being signed and sent to OVW. So maybe a 50/50.

Batista had less than a year on the years while training with the Wild Samoans. He then spent 2 years in OVW. Cena had about a year and a half. I guess my point is that I think you still can count those guys as WWE homegrown guys. It wasn't like they worked years in the territories like Hogan and others and then made their way to WWE.

Yes but I am talking about guys who were the prototype for what WWE is trying to do now with NXT. Take people straight from college or pro athletics and teach them the WWE way from the beginning. Angle and Lesnar are the best example of this. Athletes hired by WWE and sent to train and wrestle with WWE approved people. Orton and Rock are more or less the same with the wrinkle of growing up around the business. Cena is not because he sought out his own training and experience without WWE. Batista halfway because he sought WWE guidance but worked on his own before being offered a contract. Again I am looking for people who became real stars in a proto NXT way.

Baron Corbin.
I can already feel the heel heat and I'm in a British winter.
