With everything going on with NXT and WWEs developmental practices I was trying to think of stars they took from nothing to superstar. These are who I could come up with.
Rock, Randy Orton, Roman Reigns. They came from wrestling families but they were WWE from the beginning as far as I know.
Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle.
Any other major stars who were WWE projects from the very beginning?

Big E is one of my favorite dudes going right now. While his title run just ended, I could see him getting back up there. I'd consider him a success.

Was Bray Wyatt in that category?

The Rock. Brock Lesnar. Roman Reigns. Randy Orton. Kurt Angle. Bianca Belair. Charlotte Flair. Big E. Bobby Lashley. Alexa Bliss. The Usos. Bray Wyatt. Braun Strowman. Trish Stratus. Bella Twins. Dolph Ziggler. Cody Rhodes. John Morrison. Shelton Benjamin.
There are people like Cena/Batista/Miz who are about as WWE as it gets but wrestled very briefly elsewhere before signing.

Would the McMahons themselves count? Except Linda, they all have some entertaining matches to their name and they’ve all won titles.

I was mostly thinking true superstars. This comes from a conversation I was having with my wife.
Basically all of their biggest stars for the longest time came up somewhere else. Hogan, Macho, Warrior, Hart, Michaels, Flair, Nash, Taker, Austin, Foley, even Triple H. I think Rock was the first star they more or less brought up from nothing. I am aware Rock wrestled in Memphis but it was basically developmental.
So yeah some of the names mentioned qualify but few feel the same level. Though that could just be because of WWE and their no talent bigger than the company narrative now.

I thought Angle did some training at an NWA affiliate in Pittsburgh before he signed any deal with WWE.
Orton also had some training before signed with WWE. I think it was in his doc. Don't think he wrestled too long before going to OVW.

Cena, Orton, Lesnar, Batista should most certainly count. Even if they did a little indie work, I think it's disingenuous to say that they were like road warriors before showing up at OVW.

Don't think he wrestled too long before going to OVW. Angle did that while training with Dory Funk who was at the time doing the training for WWE. But he worked the NWA show for experience reasons As well as ECWA. But he was under a WWE contract. I had to look into that myself because I knew he trained with Dory Funk but I thought that was seperate.

Yeah, Cena had some really short-lived California indie work before going to WWE, but he was still essentially a neophyte.

Cena was even on a Discovery Channel show "Inside Wrestling School" during his "Prototype" days in UPW. Only thing I remember is him loading up a shopping cart with steaks. I remember one of my friends had an instructional pro wrestling school tape from UPW with Cena and Samoa Joe on it. www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Pro-Wrestling-Training-Artist-Provided/dp/B000077VR1
