www.youtube.com/watch?v=Npl7fd-6rGgFrom what I am assuming is the Ten Network in Australia. I know that this was 1986 but it’s weird how the network rated this show as G. At least that’s what I think the G in the graphic stands for and this is a full 11 years BEFORE Parental TV Ratings showed up in our screens in the US.

It was actually in 87. Probably late in the year as Spivey had a short lived heel turn that didn't go anywhere before he was released. Good to hear Johnny V on commentary as I always got a kick out of him. It's funny of much Spivey looks like Hogan. They even point it out on commentary. Makes me wonder if they were planning on doing a doppleganger feud.

I remember Spivey coming into the WWF as a face and teaming with Mike Rotundo (or was it Rotunda?) as a replacement for Barry Windham. I actually don't remember him turning heel, though.

Good to hear Johnny V on commentary as I always got a kick out of him. Agreed. I like when he subbed for Heenan from time to time, sometimes preferring him to Heenan.

It was super forgettable mainly because after his heel turn he was only on Prime Time going over on low level faces like Poffo and SD Jones. Never appeared at all on Superstars or Wrestling Challenge. He did have a cameo in the "If You Only Knew Video" which featured pretty much every one on the roster at the time with his heel look and haircut that was clearly inspired by Brian Bosworth during the super brief period he was a big deal. I guess him looking so similar to Hogan really hurt him and eventually led to him being let go. I remember Spivey in a shoot interview saying that Vince told him "that it wasn't his fault that God made him 6'6" with blonde hair".

He was kind of like a less witty and more angrier version of Heenan. It seemed like he was always riled up. Made it funnier when Gorilla would bust his balls all the time. Also him referring to people as half wits is oddly amusing to me for some reason.

I like the idea that no one considered, hey, maybe let's get Spivey some different colored trunks. Even if they wanted to stick with the "Golden Boy" thing, you'd figure that they could have gone with something a bit different than red kneepads and yellow trunks.

I, too, enjoy Johnny V. However, when he is the glue holding your announce team together, you have problems. It's amazing to me that Prichard and McGuirk were kept around at all in any capacity after they sucked so bad in this commentary run.

They were doing a lot of televised house shows in Houston around that time and the commentary team was Prichard, McGuirk, and "Duke of Dorchester" Pete Doherty. Undoubtably the worst commentary team I've heard. Just unbearable to listen to.

Danny Hogan?
I see what they were trying to do here. Too bad it didn't turn into a Hogan-Spivey feud.
