I wonder if anybody here has started a topic about this. I found out about this a few days ago, which is weird because I have been watching it on Hulu lately. The question on my mind is how will it be done. Will it pick up where it left off? Or just start fresh? One thing is for certain is that Mike Judge and Greg Daniels may have to write off Luanne and Lucky because Brittany Murphy and Tom Petty, respectively, are no longer with us, and it wouldn't be right to recast those two.
Has anyone heard about this?

It's kind of a show I was always a little up and down on, but I feel like a lot of aspects of it would be lost in trying to revive it. Maybe a years-later sequel but trying to just pick up where it left off sounds like a recipe for something that'd be mediocre at best.

Had no idea about it but I'm down. Personally, I'd have it take place 10+ years later where Bobby's a father to a toddler and just make that work. They can do a lot with an older cast. I've been waiting to see Hank and Peggy be grandparents. It would be interesting to see how Hank treats a grandchild given how his own dad interacted with Bobby.

You think he would have a child with Connie, or with someone else? The thing that I liked about King of the Hill was that it was pretty realistic in some areas.

While it would be interesting if it was with Connie, that would be unrealistic unless she moved back to the town or something so I'd say probably somebody he met locally. Maybe a local college or something or actually probably someone he met at whatever job he'd be working. Say he was just a dude working at Mega Lo Mart and he got with a coworker. Afterwards, I think if Connie had to move back and maybe she'd reconnect with Bobby again that would be a dope story.

I feel that if it returned, it just wouldn't have the same feel.
Also, ever noticed how horrible Peggy Hill is, especially in the early episodes/seasons? Yikes.

Oh yeah, that episode where she kidnapped a Mexican child after grossly overestimating her fluency in Spanish pretty much tells you almost everything you need to know about Peggy Hill.

I'm all for it coming back. To me, it should have been one of those animated shows that ran for 20 or 30 seasons.
They absolutely would need to write Luann and Lucky off. I want Cotton Hill back is some form, even if it is just flashbacks.

It's one of my absolute favorite shows, but I'm wary about a reboot or continuation. I don't want to have to have anything dealing with Ladybird in a timeskip, and that's nothing compared to how they'd have to deal with Luanne and Lucky.

If they do age the characters, I'd imagine they'd "Fuller House" Ladybird where it is Ladybird 2 or whatever. Luann and Lucky is easy, you just say she hit the big time with being a hairstylist and moved to LA or NYC or Lucky got a huge settlement and they moved to Florida. I guess they could go dark and say Luann and Lucky died and Hank/Peggy are raising their kid, which could lead to interesting storylines, but just seems pretty dark. Dark for a series that had a teenager get blown up in a propane explosion, the wife of the main character have a skydiving accident, the father of the main character die from a shellfish reaction and burns, and have Bill nearly die about 38 times.

Unless there's a time skip, I would be fine without this. It was kind of getting stale and overstaying its welcome near the end of its original run.

Perfect time stamp of its era, but I really don’t know that I want to see them considering 2022 politics.
Original series had a pretty deft hand, but the Overton window has shifted so goddamn hard.

I loved King of the Hill but I don't want it to return. Kind of where I'm at too. I'm rewatching it right now on Hulu and around season 9 it starts to tumble in terms of quality. A little later, I think one of the worst episodes was Church Hopping, which felt incredibly out of place for Hank to try to blackmail his pastor for assigned seating after he personally fixed the problem....the problem that was essentially a one off for the Hill family to begin with because they were late for church. And I must say that Lucky is just the most visually unappealing animated characters I have ever seen, and not in an Ed Roth kind of way. I never really liked him, but I always watched in syndication, so I saw him a little more sparingly. I will never understand why they decided to take a one off character with a stupid backstory in an earlier episode and make him a recurring character later on. Yes, I know the writers probably liked the idea of getting Tom Petty back frequently...but just create a new character for his voice. I get so tired of hearing about his "pee pee settlement", it was funny when it was said the first time, I didn't need to hear about it 30 other times. Lastly, Lucky is insufferable with never getting the comeuppance that other characters would. He's lazy, carefree, nonchalant and undeserving of the things he gets. He keeps company with bad people, drags Luanne down with him...and Hank of all people should be intolerant of his nature, yet he seems to not care whatsoever, sometimes even encouraging some of Lucky's behavior. As far as comeuppance, Lucky always sweetly learns the error of his way, instead of learning things the brutally hard way like just about every other character in the show where something dark happens to them...but of course never to Lucky. He's like a trailer park Leave It To Beaver or something. With both Brittany Murphy and Tom Petty gone, I think if KOTH comes back, it would benefit greatly from a time jump. Maybe Bobby is in high school now, Luanne and Lucky moves away, Hank runs Strickland Propane, Peggy is doing something else, Bill is in a long term relationship, Boomhauer has a beard.. whatever. I think this helps the writing way more than continuing to go to the well to reproduce the same ideas over and over. I just got done watching an episode where Bobby helped Bill with his BBQ, and earlier in the episode Hank scolds Bobby about not cooking, despite an earlier episode where he was completely enamored with his cooking abilities, which Peggy resented. Just jump the series ahead by about 4 years and you have a lot of new opportunities.

Except he’s shorter than Lucky would be and dresses nicer. Same haircut, same face, same teeth. He’s Lucky.

Lucky should get the same amount of screentime as characters like Joe Jack and Principal Moss. There's very little endearing to have entire episodes written around him, especially if he's going to be treated with kid gloves by the writers.

I doubt they'll bring Lucky or LuAnn back and that's a good thing. I don't care for either. They just dragged the series down towards the end.

I don't think Luann is coming back, regardless since, yeah, the voice actress passed away and recasting her would be kind of ghoulish given it'd be so much easier to just leave the character be.
