I made a similar thread about shows changing focus, but this I mean more like
Scrubs. Should have ended at season 8. Season was so drastically different, it should have branded as a different show
Community season 5 and 6. Season 4 ended with them all graduating and season 5 started with them coming back to school like it’s been years (only about 4 months in real time) and everyone failed at life. Not to mention the huge character turnover.
Dragon ball z, the Majin buu era is such a huge departure from Z as far as look and characters, and they finally changed the theme song, it get as drastic a change as going from dragon ball to dragon ball Z. they should have treated it the third show before Gt became a thing. Not mention dbz would have ended with Goku dead it would feel like the show actually had some stakes and his return in Buu would have been more satisfying.
Obvious the Simpsons. I mean people complain about the drop in quality from Teen titans To Teen titans Go, but could you imagine if it just kept going as Teen titans and devolved into Go? That’s how it’s like with the simpsons. Sure people would be complaining about “being back the original Simpson” but at least you wouldn’t get the whole “this show hasn’t been good since season 10” argument.

Given that the show finally became the prequel so many fans thought it would be, it's not hard to imagine Enterprise Season 4 as a fairly distinct series from those first three years. Honestly, with all the baggage and mixed reputation the show had at this time, a completely new title like "Star Trek Federation Prime" might have helped the series get away from the bad PR it had accumulated by that point.

For the last several years of its run, Smallville barely took place in Smallville.

The title "Smallville" made no sense anymore by the start of the shows eighth season. While he still technically lived on the farmhouse in Smallville, 90% of the show now took place in Metropolis, with all the pieces in place for Clark to assume his role as Superman. Even if they didn't want him to be Superman yet, they should've renamed the show "Metropolis" or some-such.
Stargate SG-1 is another good one. By the end of season eight both Don S. Davis and Richard Dean Anderson had left the show as regulars, the System Lords had fallen and almost all of the story-arcs and plot points from the earlier seasons had been resolved. Yeah, the SG-1 team was still around, and Daniel, Carter and Teal'c were still on it, but now it was led by Mitchell, would usually include Vala tagging along, and the entire dynamic of the group had changed. Plus they were fighting a completely different enemy in the Ori. It was just a completely different show at this point.

The 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is another one. In an attempt to compete with the new crop of 90's superhero cartoons like X-Men and Batman: The Animated Series, TMNT seasons eight to ten gave us what the fandom now call the "Red Sky Episodes". Darker and more serious with much less humor, we got a new theme song, new villains, new allies, modified character designs and general animation changes, including an ominous red night time sky. It was so tonally divorced from what came before that they probably would've been better off just renaming the show, or even rebooting the series.

It didn't help that TMNT in general was rapidly losing steam after 1993. The failure of the third film, much of its core audience having aged out of the animated series, & the arrival of Power Rangers grabbing many of the kids that were still there meant it was an IP increasingly out of step with popular culture. Heck that not even a single mainline Turtles video game was made between Tournament Fighters & 2003 (when the Fox series came long) is telling of just how hard Turtles fell off in terms of activity. The Red Sky seasons and Next Mutation are both interesting hallmarks in that sense of a franchise in desperate search of some sort of identity.

Maybe, but continuity wise it picked up right where season 7 left off. And what else are you gonna call it besides Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?

That basically tells the audience not to watch.

That basically tells the audience not to watch. Given the hit and miss nature of the Red Sky seasons, that might have been the kindest thing to do.

How about TMNT & A Pizza Place? The Turtles would love it at least.

Degrassi: The Next Generation after most of the OG cast left.
It was pretty much Degrassi: The Next Next Generation by that point.

Family Guy should have changed its name after season 5 or 6... Maybe to something like Seth's Soapbox, or Seth's Sociopaths.
around the time they serialized each season South Park should have just changed its name to The Randy Marsh Show.
For that matter Comedy Central might as well be just The South Park Network since they gave up on pretty much every other show. (I will never forgive them for canceling Tosh.0 after previously promising to renew it.)
