Bryan Alvarez basically said “Shane might have been a pain to deal with backstage, and rubbed some people through wrong way. But he’s being scapegoated hard here.” That Rumble was in trouble long before the actual match and that part ain’t on Shane. Ignoring Shane, let's look at the other problems with that Rumble: *Damian Priest and Bad Bunny are both in the Rumble, but you don't do continuity from last year's WrestleMania. *Rey Mysterio and Dominick are in the Rumble, but you don't have them fight, despite teasing aggression for weeks. *You force Kofi Kingston to do yet another stupid "almost touches the floor, but he avoids it" stunt. Again. It finally fails. *Omos. Just, Omos. *Big E's status as "just another guy" is finally cemented. *Apparently Riddle was supposed to win, but you couldn't tell that. *Brock Lesnar conveniently gets #30 and cleans house almost immediately. Drew McIntyre was the guy who defeated him two years ago, and he's tossed out with little effort. Yeah, I don't think all this is Shane's doing. If anything, we can only criticize Shane for eliminating Owens and employing his force field on Riddle, not to mention being unable to go over the top rope. This takes a lot of effort to create something this bizarre.

That is actually the closest his punches have ever looked to actually hitting someone. I didn't know he was capable of it.

Information from Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio: The thing that calls this into question is Vince vetoing something because NOW he needed someone to sell a beating. Especially since Seth did not do a ton to sell the beating on Raw the next night. He did a couple of things, but not nearly enough of the attack was meant to be THAT bad.

This entire thing is hilarious. Best wrestling related thing these past few weeks.

I’m dying laughing at the MarkyD123 style name of this thread. A WILD SLAPNUTS APPEAR(ING) would’ve definitely helped this Rumble

I would like to make it known that I am also willing to put over Brock Lesnar. I will take that fall.

This entire thing is hilarious. Best wrestling related thing these past few weeks. -snip- So you throw Shane into a booking scenario where things can change on the fly of the whim of a 70+ year old man whose forgotten more than he remembers and have him ALSO trying to change stuff on a whim building to matches that only benefit him…that does explain the Men’s Rumble, yeah.

This takes a lot of effort to create something this bizarre. Also everyone could see before the show even that this Rumble lacked star power. There were MAYBE two guys besides Brock that the fans could have maybe bought actually winning it. That’s it. It was every bad booking habit in WWE combining to make a complete mess.

Next, Steph books a really bad Punjabi Prison and gets sent home too Somehow she makes a feud Omos vs. Commander Azeez which culminates in this match. They might really book this...

Shane is like if the worst wrestling fan suddenly got access to everything he wanted: “Aight - ima take out Otis, Riddle, Orton, but Brock gives me a good fight and eliminates me. And I will be sweating profusely throughout it”.

That excerpt from the Torch probably explains how HHH got as much power and influence as he did. Say what you will about the guy, but he’s got far more credibility in suggestions and ideas for matches or talent than Shane ever could have.

Haha, it's wild that this dude's been such an egomaniac for this long. I thought maybe getting that pop in Detroit and years of being called "the good McMahon" and people saying he was going to save WWE from Vince, HHH, and Steph just went to his head... I guess it just made things even worse.

I had my doubts that the first PPV WWE Singles match for Austin Theory was going to be Shane. Asking him to carry Shane to a watchable match was asking a hell of a lot, and glad he's not going to be thrown into the deep end. No question that Seth Rollins deserves better than Shane. Dude has knocked it out of the park and is killing it in this Story with Reigns, which should continue until 'mania. A 10 minute match at Mania between Theory vs. Shane with Theory coming out on top would have been a nice rub, particularly if it ended up being Shane's last match. I don't think Shane should be in any big programs like with Seth at this point as a wrestler considering his age and shape. I'm curious if Shane was officially let go or if he is technically still under contract and they bring him back in say 6 months after this cools down. I doubt winning after 10 minutes of Shane drowning the ring in sweat would have been that much of a rub for Theory. And hopefully we have seen the last of Shane in the ring.

Wait, so Shane was upset because his suggestions were vetoed by Vince... So how is the awful Rumble match his fault?
Also, he might have been an asshole about it, but let's not forget he lost his grandmother VERY recently. Stuff like that makes people act out of character.

Oh, that was really nice of him. We're all imagining what would have happened if one of Shane's crap punches hit Lesnar, aren't we? And I don't even like Brock...
