Prediction: Either I go over or under .500 with this pick. Mediocrity abounds!
The Rams and Bengals are a lot alike. Both boast high-octane offenses that can put points on the board at will, but go about it in different ways. The Bengals can score in a hurry whilst the Rams take their time and usually finish long drives into the end zone. Bengals have all kinds of issues protecting Burrow, but that never seemed to materialize two weeks ago, which was a miracle unto itself. This time, though, he'll be dealing with Floyd, Donald and Miller, who made their presence felt late in the game vs. SF. Can Mixon be consistent enough running the ball to get the Rams pass rush off Burrow's back? I think so.
The Rams have the issues of either starting too fast and not finishing, or starting too slow and getting themselves into a hole early. Stafford, while making career-defining plays this postseason, was one or two funballs away from having Niners-Bengals III, particularly the arm punt that Tartt muffed. Even though the Bengals D-Line is average and above average at best, Stafford could be due to throw the ball to the wrong team once during this game and it could prove costly. They also made the right choice by featuring Michel more so than Akers in the running game. The Chiefs gashed the Bengals in the running game throughout the first half and then just stopped (An Andy Reid staple.). Kupp, Beckham and Third Receiver du jour shouldn't have too many problems getting open versus Hilton, Crapple and the rest of the secondary. Issue is, can Stafford deliver?
Special Teams, the Rams coverage unit is second to none. I've seen most punt returners go nowhere or go backwards during punts. Matt Gay, however, is a lousy kicker. The Bengals coverage units are fair, but Evan McPherson's got ice in his veins and probably might be the guy that puts the last score on the board to decide the game.
The Bengals have shown great resilience at making proper adjustments going from the first half to the second. The Rams have shown to be great at getting back up after being knocked down. Should be an epic game with the young gun making enough plays at the end to bring the Lombardi to Cincy for the first time.
30-27, Cincinnati.
