Reading the GINO entry for Ready Basketball Player One, er, Space Jam: A New Legacy made me recall the trope mentioned in the subject. What happened with Soucie/Zendaya in SJ:ANL is not unlike the Waldo/Tiffany incident of Jetsons: The Movie. Moreso since Janet did finish her lines only to get them all jettisoned in favor of using Tiffany as Judy Jetson.
Only saving grace for Zendaya is that she is actually still relevant, whereas Tiff's star was fading when the 90s came around.
Can we think of any other infamous examples of "Tiffany Syndrome"?
Then you have Opposite Tiffany Syndrome, usually when stars in a movie or special get replaced by VA's. See: Transformers, and The Raccoons.

TBH, I didn’t think Tiffany did that bad a job. If nothing else her contributions to the Jetson soundtrack were good, You And Me and Home are sharp pop songs. The story is kinda dull, but I liked the music.

Not sure if this counts, but for a while Disney's Aladdin had Dan Castellaneta replace Robin Williams in the DTV sequel Return of Jafar becasue Disney went back on their word on using his likeness for merchandising. They eventually made up and I think Dan also did the voice for the syndicated TV series. Robin returned to the Genie role in the third Aladdin dtv film

A good example for Opposite Tiffany Syndrome is the Kingdom Hearts series. The first 2 had quite a few celebs doing voices (for the English language version, at least) while Kingdom Hearts 3 definitely leaned towards more VAs doing voices, even of characters who were voiced as celebs in earlier KH games.

I think I'm reading this wrong, but would Temuera Morrison voicing Boba Fett in the Original Trilogy fall under this?

Jeph Loeb had Drake Bell rerecord all of Josh Keaton's dialogue for Spider-Man's appearance in Avengers: EMH. It was dickish as hell and I'm sure a lot of people regret that decision now.

The story is kinda dull, but I liked the music. Her speaking Judy just had no enthusiasm. Certainly not as much as Janet Waldo's. Seemed like a waste because it's not like other roles didn't have a speaking and singing voice.

Does the D+ version keep Bell's dialogue? (it IS easier to mask a problematic VA as you don't actually see them. I talked about this when Jim Cummings was having issues 2-3 years ago.) And Loeb = just the worst thing that happened to EMH, period.

I'm not sure I'd count Zendaya as Lola as the same thing, as Tiffany playing Judie
Soucie is not the only person to voice the character. (unless Soucie did record all the lines and they had Zendaya redub them that I'm not aware of)

If it wasn't for Robin knocking it out the park in the first film his performance would be much better received.
It's like Ed Tudor Pole being unfairly compared to Richard O'Brien as host of The Crystal Maze.

Robin returned to the Genie role in the third Aladdin dtv film Supposedly the reason Robin didnt want to be promoted heavily as voice of the Genie was that he felt it would overshadow his movie Toys which he was very excited about. By the time Aladdin 3 came out he may have realized that Toys was going to fail regardless.

The first 2 had quite a few celebs doing voices (for the English language version, at least) while Kingdom Hearts 3 definitely leaned towards more VAs doing voices, even of characters who were voiced as celebs in earlier KH games. If you want a great example of Reverse Tiffany Syndrome, it's Captain Planet. All the villains in season 1 were voiced by major names: Dr. Blight by Meg Ryan, Verminous Scumm by Jeff Goldblum, Lootin Plunder by James Coburn, Sly Sludge by Martin Sheen, Hoggish Greedly by Ed Asner, Duke Nukem by Dean Stockwell and Zarm by Sting. Plus Woopie Goldberg as Gaia. In season two, they swapped out Ryan for Mary Kay Bergman and Goldblum for Maurice LaMarche. In season 3, all the other villains besides Greedly were recast, with Ed Gilbert replacing Coburn, LaMarche replacing Stockwell, Jim Cummings taking over for Sheen and David Warner replacing Sting. Then in season 4, they replaced Goldberg with Margot Kidder, leaving LeVar Burton, Ed Asner, John Ratzenberger (who played Greedly's henchman Rigger) and Tim Curry (who played Blight's computer MAL) as the only well-known celeb voices for the remainder of the series.

By the time Aladdin 3 came out he may have realized that Toys was going to fail regardless. there's been a few reasons given. 1. he didn't want to overshadow Toys or Fern Gully (Fern gully also came out the same year) 2. he didn't want his character to be used as advertising potentially for things he wouldn't agree to as it would come off as he is. 3. he didn't want to overshadow real voice actors.

Charles Martinet has been voicing the Mario Brothers for over 30 years. His reward when they finally decide to release an animated feature? Replace him TWICE with Chris Pratt (Mario) and Charlie Day (Luigi).

Replace him TWICE with Chris Pratt (Mario) and Charlie Day (Luigi). Martinet's voice is not something I think anyone is going to sit through for a full length movie. Chris Pratt not really being the person I Think should voice him... but... still.

Not quite TS, as it's VA to VA, but Mae Questel having to audition to be Olive Oyl for Hanna-Barbera Popeye. Then after that, unlike Jack Mercer, she doesn't get the part!
(Granted, HB went back to more comic strip like designs, when at this point some of us associated Questel with the better looking Famous Studios Olive...)

Oh... Arsenio Hall as Winston in the Real Ghostbusters...
Ernie Hudson was auditioning and it was basically a formality... until Arsenio Hall comes in.
